I just got a new Pioneer Surround Sound A/V Receiver - VSX-532 for my 66th birthday... This is my 1st a/v receiver and it is as intimidating as my old 4-channel receiver I bought 1972 the Sansui QRX-6500, which I still have and use. Thanks for the video. It sure relieved some of my anxiety and give me some new ideas.

thanks for this! I scored a receiver and two speakers at good will and couldn't believe it would manage audio and video for all the video games and entertainment systems has, so we don't have to plug and unplug all the wires. And thanks for mentioning the optimizer mic, had no idea this technology existed.

Thanks for covering ”power output” and what that means! I have never understood the -db / +db on the display, +db in my head is usually positive decibel. So the -db did never make sense to me, always thought it was a setting issue :-) thanks a lot!

I have a Denon AVR 2801. I put the 14 gauge wires through the holes in my surround sound speakers and wrapping it around the spokes on the receiver. Then, I got my RCA cable for the surround sound and Hooke sit up to the TV/DBS slot in the back of my receiver and hooked them up to the Audio In and Out plugs in the back with the yellow Video out put cable. It does work, but last night when I hook it up, I don’t what source it was on but I heard a buzzing on my speakers so they’re definitely working.

Home Theater Hobbyist hi sir, is it possible to connect an a yamaha active monitors on this receiver?

    • @HomeTheaterHobbyist
      @HomeTheaterHobbyist  5 ปีที่แล้ว

The Yamaha Rx-v673 does not have “pre-out” connections so it can’t use powered speakers in the main 5.1 or 7.1 mix. It does have Zone 2 audio out so it can send a signal to another room and powered speakers would be used. Hopefully this answers your question.

I own the TSR-700. It has really good sound, and a 4k picture. I am very pleased with my purchase. The TSR-700 series is the same as the RX-V6A. It is totally special needs adult owned. Always well taken care of. I love Yamaha receivers. Airbus A320's is my hobby. I am a big fan of Dolby Atmos as well.

@@HomeTheaterHobbyist Thanks for the reply and offering to help,. ^_^. I just have some wirings I would love connected to this and that.... So far I have managed to hook my tivo box to a splitter so I can watch it in my bedroom also without paying extra each month for a separate tivo box ^_^.
Now am searching if I can convert an old sitting 'idle' but lovely sony hi-fi speaker system - to be able to listen to it with a smart tv instead. But not had much luck or info on 'how to' with that type of speaker system. Model is SSWZ5E. Not sure what wires would go where, or if it's EVEN convertible, but wanna try. Have ordered some audio/video cable/ plugs, so will see what I can do..
      - Failing that, my next move will be to get me a wireless speaker set. Not keen on having to keep charging a 'main' speaker, or else would have gotten a bluetooth one. Although IDEALLY, I DO want something I am able to move from room to room with... but I want something I can plug in socket - or back of tv and have it play continuously, rather than one that runs out of power. Sorry for the long post, but current dilema. ^_^ . 1st world problems huh? Haha.
Kind regards from the UK ^_^

@Home Theater Hobbyist So it turns out my bro must have given it a try: both wires (+/-) were twisted together and stuffed into a single connection point 😳 The wires looked like they were pretty thin (18 gauge) so I ended up buying a spool of 99.99% copper 12 gauge. I disconnected everything and I'll give it another go when I get the new wires in the mail.

@Hometheaterhobbyist, I am so glad I found your channel. Your video seems easy but in actuality sooo complicated.
    My friend has a:
    BOSE sound bar that has:
    A)1.S/PDIF Output - B).a RCA input #1 C).a RCA input #2 -D).a sub out
    SHARP AQUOS QUATTRON
What I see on the back(I'm assuming that's what I'm supposed to use for this case)
    VIDEO 1 w/ R AUDIO L AND VIDEO
    VIDEO 2 w/ R AUDIO L AND VIDEO
COMPONENT w/ R AUDIO L AND VIDEO AND Pr Pb and Y
(She has the BOSE RCA input #1 going into that component R AUDIO L AND VIDEO of the TV.
    AV YAMAHA HTR
On the back of the AV I have no idea where to plug anything to the back of this. I twiddled around and put it in the CD in the DVD in everything I could and on the front put in the corresponding input and nothing works.
I just want to get that SOUNDBAR connected. Its a old one she said that around when they first came out but those are the only terminals at the back
I'm confused on making work through the tv(which doesn't work) the AV (which she has sitting there) and I'm lost.
I see from your video the visual on the back looks so much like mine, but I can't get it connected and for the last 4 weeks till I seen this video, it started to make sense, but still don't know what I'm doing wrong. Its driving me nuts!!
Can you tell me where I'm going wrong or what's the best way please, Thanks

    • @HomeTheaterHobbyist
      @HomeTheaterHobbyist  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

From what you've said I don't think you need the Yamaha in the chain at all just use the Bose connected to the TV as it is. Then go into the TVs audio menu and select the audio output that the Bose is connected to. Hopefully this helps!

For anyone troubleshooting surround sound with the actual device here's the steps that I found buried on forums that are not in the instructions.
    Set Impedance:
Look on the back of your speakers and check what Ohm rating they have. With the receiver powered off, hold down the 'Straight' button on the front and power it on. It will take you to the impedance menu automatically. Hit 'Straight' again to select the Ohm rating of your speakers (6 or 8 Ohms)
    Turn on your HDMI Settings:
Hit 'Setup' on your remote to access the HDMI Control menu.
Set "HDMI Control " to ON.
Set the "TV AUDIO INPUT" to AV2
    Set "ARC" to on
HDMI control lets you control the Yamaha receiver volume and power with the TV remote.
    Connect Receiver to Smart TV
Plug your HDMI cable into the HDMI ARC port on the back of your TV (Just look for the port that says 'ARC')
Plug the other end into the HDMI Out ARC port on the back of the receiver.
Go into your smart tv settings and under the sound>Sound Output options select Receiver(HDMI). If you don't have this option then something is not turned on in the HDMI settings steps above. Mine wasn't displaying the receiver option until I turned on 'HDMI Control.'
Troubleshooting: While you're watching your program, scroll through the input sources till you hear sound. It could be the TV Audio Input is set to another input.
*Keep in mind, if you're streaming, Netflix and Hulu offer different sound options with each show or movie so the surround may be different with literally every show or movie you watch. While watching a program and looking at the receiver input source display you should be able to see the speaker icons for which channel that show or movie is actually using. Netflix's surround sound isn't great. Hulu is better but it doesn't seem to use all speakers.
    Hope this helps.

Thanks! To connect to your computer you will need an audio output jack such as auxiliary. Then you can use this auxiliary to RCA cable to connect it to your receiver (this is an Amazon affiliate link by the way amzn.to/2INccQB). For the powered speakers you should be able to use standard RCA cables (this is an Amazon affiliate link by the way amzn.to/2PqiSXq). Hope this helps!

I feel the lack of highs in my 5.1 speaker setup. I have onkyo txnr656 av receiver and it supports upto 7.2 setup. I bought a pyle tweeter box which has 4 tweeters in it. Could you please explain me the right way to connect this additional tweeter box to my av receiver so i can listen better highs. Appreciate your help.

I liked this video, good, simple, detailed information to demystify the process. I have a question that I think I know the answer to, but I would like confirmation or NOT: I like my two speaker (Wharfedale towers) + subwoofer (Boston Acoustics) setup, but my receiver needs replacement and I need to know if I can use a multichannel AV Receiver with that setup or do I need to stick with a 2.1 channel stereo receiver?

    • @HomeTheaterHobbyist
      @HomeTheaterHobbyist  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, you can use a multi-channel receiver for a 2.1 setup and it will work great! What are you thinking about purchasing?

I just purchased a Yamaha RX-A1070 Receiver. Can you tell me where I would connect 4 front speakers R, C, L and sub-woofer and 2 rear speakers L and R for Zone 1.
And 2 separate speakers in another room for Zone 2. Thanks.

I have a LG surround sound system with a blu ray 3d player it requires a hdmi to connect to the tv.. And I have a samsung bar with subwoofer connected to my tv and it requires a optical cord to hear it I play both of them while watching movies.. Is there anyway I can get one of these and hear it with the rest of them by using a hdmi cord or headphone line cord?

I have a very similar receiver and have been trying to get the ARC feature to work with my Samsung UN55MU6290 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV. I have been through all the manuals, configured and re-configured all of the settings and still get no audio out of the tv into the receiver. You've probably heard of this issue before but its makes the SmartTV features basically useless so in our case we are using an older SONY BlueRay player to acccess Amazon and other video services. Any suggestions?

I am connecting a Denon AVR S760H that has 7 hdmi ports on the back. My question is if I connect every item I have through the HDMI ports on the receiver and one HDMI ARC out to the tv do I have to always have my receiver and surround sound on or can I still watch connected items through the tv without receiver on.

Finally, the one detail I was looking about external connections, explained. I want to buy a receiver to connect from my blu-ray to and older projector (that has HDMI input, but no ARC). So basically, I would connect the BR output to the receiver input (HDMI), get the digital sound through my speakers and video output to my projector? That's what I would think, correct me if I'm wrong. Anyways, awesome video bro. Thanks!

I have the yamaha 2080 and the entire pioneer elite atmos speakers in 5.2.4. Why when I run the YAPO setup do I get wiring errors on 3 of the speakers? Took my time setting this receiver up making sure red to red and black to black twice before moving to the next speaker. I even checked the connections again after YAPO was ran and everything is connected correctly. Could this be due to sound reflections in the room?
