2011 BMW 535i here, 97,000 miles. I have the P052B error code. yes, engine basically limps, barely any power. unstable idling. I changed the two VANOS solenoids with new ones, but didn't help.
Hi everyone, I’ve done the diagnostics and there are 2 faults: crankshaft sensor: general loss of synchronisation and vanos solenoid valve exhaust camshaft. They say the timing chain has to be replaced. How likely is that they are trying to f**k me up, instead of just changing the solenoid they want to change the whole thing. I’ve got bmw series 5, G30, B46/48 not sure exactly? All thoughts are appreciated
Thanks so much for the video. I feel like my solenoids may be failing or dirty. The car has a really erratic idle but what's weird is that the car drives fine. Only when it's stopped (doesn't matter if in park, reverse, or drive), the car will die. Would this potentially be a solenoid issue?
Yes I had the same problem it's debris blocking solenoid function to put came in correct place for the camper sensor to see it and align with the crank sensor. That's if you don't need a tune up first.
Hi i do have 530i that runs great. Hydraulic lifters are ,new,timing chain new. Now there is a ticking sound when the engine oil is around 50 Celsius. Cold engine no ticking sound . Could it be the vanos sellenoids that are dirty? with engine running stationair. Oil pressure getting lower when heating up causing this ticking/ clacking sound? Thanks for your vids🎉 very much info👍

also you forgot to mention the solenoid filters thats on the side of the head have to remove and clean them as these solenoids dont have built in screens like the newer solenoid systems

Does it also cause a long crank? (Over 5 seconds to start up) I replaced my spark plugs with cheap orielly brand torqued to 18ftlb, replaced all 6 ignition coils with bosche brand. Replaced valve gasket, eccentric shaft gasket, and valvetronic motor gasket, then removed and cleaned both solenoids with gasoline. But my n52 e90 still rough idles a little and long cranks to start up along with the motor shaking back and forth. I’m thinking of buying new solenoids or replacing the camshaft sensor
@@dejedanmy 2015 m4 replaced all plugs and coil packs, still having a misfire/shudder at 4k rpms under full throttle, half throttle it's fine.. and worst of all , no codes are coming up. Could be injectors but that would throw a code.. would an unbalanced flywheel throw a code?
@@Abercrombemonkey I’m not a bmw expert as an e90 is the only model I’ve ever owned. But I’m pretty sure the maintenance procedures/ diagnostics are completely different from your bmw f82 and my bmw e90… So I wouldn’t have a clue. But in the case the maintenance procedures are similar, replacing the crankshaft position sensor located near the starter, underneath the intake manifold fixed the misfiring for me

It’s not a make or break point for your car, as long as you stay within the car manual recommendation you’ll be fine. I went from 5W-30 to 5W-40 and I feel like I actually ended up getting better response from it. I’d recommend buying liqui-moly from FCPEURO, quality German oil with a life time warranty
@@Coderedpirate hmmmm, I'm running 10w40 and I've had to clean the vanos solenoids three times in the last three months to get out of limp mode, works everytime.
Where do you live? 10w might be too viscous for your climate which causes your Vanos Solednoids to clog up. However, it might not be your oil at all, cleaning your Vanos Solenoids is only a temporary fix. Mine just recently went bad and I see no reason to clean them instead of just replacing it. It's only about $100 or $200 with a lifetime warranty from FCPeuro

My bmw x1 vibrates alot on a cold engine. After 10-15 mins of driving and the engine reaches operating temperature, there is no vibrates..it runs perfectly when hot.. could this be a VANOS problem?
UPDATE: it wasnt a VANOS issue. It was my engine mounts. The rubbers on the mounts were compressed and lowered and it was causing the loud vibrations. I still dont understand how it stopped vibrating when hot. But anyways, my issue is 100% solved since I changed both mounts!

@@Sp3ctreWolf vanos is the name of the system not a brand. These cars have boost solenoids and vanos solenoids. Vanos is an abbreviation for the German phrase for variable camshaft timing. You want vanos solenoids if you’re having vanos issues

I have a strange noise in my BMW 08 4.8i E70 X5 sport. It has 123.400 miles now. I have a noise when I start driving. It sounds like timing chain. The N62 isn’t known for timing chain guide issues. I’m thinking the vanos. I hear a rattle on acceleration and deceleration. I only hear it low gear 1 then 2, and 3 it goes away. Then on down shift. When it’s cold it’s louder. After it’s warmed up the noise goes away.

How do I know if I have a loss of power if I've only owned the car for 2 days and have never driven one before to compare it to? I can say the powerband feels a little flat until about 4,000rpm and then wakes up a little. The car has no codes and just passed smog, but the car has 247k miles, I don't know it's service history and the electrical connectors for the solenoids are covered in oil.
If smoke it burns oil. Change CCV or else OSV (oil separator valve) . Also check for oil leaks from the upper plastic crankcase gasket. If it is the CCV, no codes but EML light on and car doesn't drive.

Hey there.. So im expiriencing similar problems.. E46, m52tub25 When i start the car and get on road everything is fine if i drive it, but everytime I stop for more than 20-30 seconds and i let it idle the revs drop to around 400 and its kinda like limp mode, revs then dont go past 2500 it sounds like it's not working on all cylinders and the codes i got were: p0156, p1188 and missfire on 5, 4 and cilinder 3.. So is there any advice what should i check? After I turn it off and start again it runs fine for a time but if i stay longer than 20 seconds on idle it goes rugh again..
damn man sounds almost similar to mine xcept it would just go into limp mode randomly like once a week after turning it off it would reset & now tho after a year it doesnt go away… Have you fixed it? I have P13BA code
hey so not really, i unplugged MAF and it doesn't go in limp mode if i leave it running, but as you have mentioned, once or twice a week it completely cuts off gas and i cannot rev it past 1500 rpm, sometimes turning it off and on again helps but today it was so stubborn... when i drove to work it happened i was going ~60 mph and it went into limp mode almost didnt make it to work and later after i finished shift when i started it, it behaved normal... so i think its PCV/CCV system (vacuum leak on oil separator), got new one trying to find time to replace it and if this doesnt help next is O2 sensor after cats and after that if it still happens ill go and rebuild vanos so ill write you when I find out something new@@jcbeast_135i
My friend replaced tha timing chain on a bmw 116.When we start it it runs fine for a moment,then it surges on idle.If i pull the plug off the intake vanos solenoid it runs fine.Wtf is wrong with this thing????We switched the two to see if it was a bad solenoid,no change...

Never mind, realized I had a code p0335 and ordered a $20 crankshaft position sensor from amazon causing my long crank issue

If wires are broken to exhaust solenoid could that cause burning oil. Its not valve seals bc they were recently replaced.

I have a 328i and when I start the car and press the gas it Rev up but when I put it in drive and press the gas it moves but not at the rate how I press the gas.?

No never find out what it was. Been to 4 mechanics. And a lot of money was trown away. Car was sold as it was and bought a x3 n20b20 we will see how this engine will be. For me never again a n53b30

Man i got issue "vanos exhaust camshaft end position not reached" my engine is m54 is it because dirty selonoid? My mechanic alredy set on top dead center of the cam but still get these issue.. any help will be apprecieted..
I'm having a problem with my gauge cluster on an 06 325i, the digital parts of the cluster works but none of the needles work any suggestions would be much appreciated
How do I know if I have a loss of power if I've only owned the car for 2 days and have never driven one before to compare it to? I can say the powerband feels a little flat until about 4,000rpm and then wakes up a little. The car has no codes and just passed smog, but the car has 247k miles, I don't know it's service history and the electrical connectors for the solenoids are covered in oil.
If smoke it burns oil. Change CCV or else OSV (oil separator valve) . Also check for oil leaks from the upper plastic crankcase gasket.
If it is the CCV, no codes but EML light on and car doesn't drive.

Howsit guys im from South Africa im busy with a n46b20a 118i im having problems with a car im busy with when reving the car it makes like a pinging noise as if the timing is to fast running out of ideas of how to fix replaced valvetronic motor, cleaned solenoids checked timing with locking tools chain is till ok chain guides are ok could you please give me advise thanx

I have a 2013 f10 n55 and have a rough cold start idle for the first start of the day where the rpms bounce from 600 too 1000 for a couple minutes and dont return for the rest of the day. would this be a vanoss or carbon buildup issue (walnut blast) ?

When i start the car and get on road everything is fine if i drive it, but everytime I stop for more than 20-30 seconds and i let it idle the revs drop to around 400 and its kinda like limp mode, revs then dont go past 2500 it sounds like it's not working on all cylinders and the codes i got were: p0156, p1188 and missfire on 5, 4 and cilinder 3.. So is there any advice what should i check?
After I turn it off and start again it runs fine for a time but if i stay longer than 20 seconds on idle it goes rugh again..
damn man sounds almost similar to mine xcept it would just go into limp mode randomly like once a week after turning it off it would reset & now tho after a year it doesnt go away… Have you fixed it? I have P13BA code
hey so not really, i unplugged MAF and it doesn't go in limp mode if i leave it running, but as you have mentioned, once or twice a week it completely cuts off gas and i cannot rev it past 1500 rpm, sometimes turning it off and on again helps but today it was so stubborn... when i drove to work it happened i was going ~60 mph and it went into limp mode almost didnt make it to work and later after i finished shift when i started it, it behaved normal... so i think its PCV/CCV system (vacuum leak on oil separator), got new one trying to find time to replace it and if this doesnt help next is O2 sensor after cats and after that if it still happens ill go and rebuild vanos so ill write you when I find out something new@@jcbeast_135i
And some BMW's it will burn oil because of timing (n62) ask me how I know.
My friend replaced tha timing chain on a bmw 116.When we start it it runs fine for a moment,then it surges on idle.If i pull the plug off the intake vanos solenoid it runs fine.Wtf is wrong with this thing????We switched the two to see if it was a bad solenoid,no change...

It could be so many different things. They say swap the solenoids around and see if the code switches... then you know it's a solenoid

@@honorablewiz7447 i only have 2A98 but previously had 2A82 but got that cleared, and it hasn't showed up since. I guess i'll get new solenoids and see if that works :)
