    My mother-in-law asked if I could make her a scarf with a wider bit in the middle to cover her ears. I came home and yours was the 1st channel I pulled up. Low and behold I found this video.....lol She adores her new skoodie! I used a bulky yarn and a 9mm (N) hook. Came out nice and uber fluffy.
    Thank you so much for your tutorials and sharing your talent. I look forward to the next project.

    Very clever pattern. It avoids the 2 problems I have had with past scoodies: the Klansman point at the crown and the weak, stretched stitches at the join of the hood and scarf. Well done!

    This tutorial was so informative not only for this pattern, but for every hat pattern one would make. The formula you teach is genius, one I'd never seen on video before, and will be invaluable in my hat projects. Thank you so much. You have given me way more than just a pattern and tutorial with this one.

    Clare, I am a band mom and sat at many competitions last year in the cold, rain and snow. (I live in Michigan in the US). I hate hats as then never stay down on my head. It is like my hair just squishes it off. I saw your pattern for your Scoodie and decided that this might work for me. I love it. I modified it a little when it came to the scarf part but all in all it is great. Kept my head quite warm last weekend and expect it to do the same this weekend. Thanks for the great patterns. Im using the lionbrand bulky thread to make one for my daughter who has Aspergers . She gets overwhelmed and puts thick blankets over her head . LOL! Its funny to me because she is 25 and has been doing his since she was 3 . I came across this pattern and thought it would be a lot better then a blanket . She saw it and agrees but said"It has to be thick and cooshie !" LOL!So 3 skiens in and Im not done ! UGH! But. It is very "Cooshie" Thank you Claire !!

    The hood part worked great! I wasn't able to figure out how you attached the chains to the hood for the scarf, so I chained 90, then SC it across the bottom of the hood section, then chained another 90. Then DC rows to make the scarf section. Turned out great!

    I am making this as a gift for my sister in-law for Christmas. I amusing a dark red chunky yarn and it is turning out lovely! I had to do some decreases around the hood part to get it to curve down properly an I am doing it with an infinity scarf rather than an open ended one because where we live is always super windy. Hello lovely lady....1st, How is Mrs Foamy....Hope she is doing well.....I have a problem....I made your scoodie from your other pattern where it has a point at the back (and nobody likes it - so I don't wear it).....please, are you able to help me pull the hooded part off to do this pattern - and how would I attach the new rounded hood (as in this pattern) to my scarf... I really don't want to unpick the whole thing and start again...but if I have to - then I will....Many thanks for your awesome well explained tutorials....absolutely love them....thanking you in advance - Maureen, South Africa xx

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hello Maureen, Mrs. Foamy is doing well although i must admit that I do not use her as often as I used to. You could potentially replace the old hood with this one if you want to. just remove the other hood from the other one and you can just make this hood separately and then just sew the scarf onto it afterwards. There really isn't a way to do it without having to make the hood first and sew it on other than just starting new and working from the beginning.

    I had a thought for the scarf section; rather than finishing off the hood, what if you chained out 80 as you initially tried, turned the work and did your double stitch all along the chain/hood bottom, but then continued into a chainless foundation double stitch to make the other side of the the scarf? Just a thought, but maybe that wouldn't work.

    Hello, I love this pattern and am looking forward to trying it. Do you think using a 5.0 mm hook would still make a good hoodie - so long as I stick to the math in the pattern to get the size I want? I tighter stitches, esp, for pieces meant to keep you warm. I am a self-taught, not-very-experienced crocheter so just wondering your thoughts. Thank you. Sharon

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hi, yes you could use a 5mm hook. the stitches will just be very tight and you may need extra increase rounds and the fabric won't lay as well as a larger hook. try to make the middle wit the smaller hook first and see if the fabric is too stiff. if it is then you will need to go up a hook or two.

    • @sharonhochberg3671
      @sharonhochberg3671 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello. I have started and am about 1/3 the way through using the 5-mm hook. It does not feel stiff to me. I think I did one more round row than on your video (same head circumference as you). I will let you know how it turns out.. Thank you.

    I have one of these partway done, and I'm finding it a bit gappy at the back of the neck. Do you think it would help to start over the scarf part and do some decreases across the portion of the scarf that attaches to the bottom of the hood on the first row of the scarf? (Or maybe you have a different idea!)
    Really cute pattern! Your tutorials are always lots of fun. :-)

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure what you mean by a bit gappy? There should be no gaps anywhere where the hood attaches to the scarf.

    • @kelleyjogirl
      @kelleyjogirl 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      bobwilson123 It just doesn't hug the neck at all around the back -- it sort of sticks out. I did go ahead and do some decreases. I think I'd space them out a little differently if I did it again, but it worked okay.
      I posted a picture on Ravelry, if you'd like to see.

    I know this video is a few years old, but I've completed the hood and have done the first length of chain for the scarf and have a question. Okay so I'm confused about doing the second chain length, it looks like you did your chains first then attached it, but wouldn't you have to cut the yarn again to start at one end to do your first row double crochet of the scarf. Would doing a slip stitch to attach the yarn first, then doing your chains mess it up? I ask because attaching then chaining would allow me to just turn and do the first row, plus it would require one less cut/loose end. The yarn I'm using is like a velvety chenille that's a little hard to weave in based on working in the tail from the round. My worst nightmare is to work on a project and for it to somehow unravel or come apart, the fewer seperate strands the less I worry. Thank you in advance to anyone who could give advice or help answer my question.

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello
      as long as when you attach your chains you have the hood then 2 chains - 1 coming off either end, so that when you crochet across you crochet along the chain on both sides

      I did and I had to do some decreases on the hood to get it to curve properly as it comes toward the face. After that I just did as many rows as I needed until the front of the hood came out as far as I wanted. Made with Lion Brand Hometown USA and a size 9 mm hook.

    Hello I am stuck at the part where you crochet 3/4 way then turn. How far do I go around? To the end and meet up where you last turned? Please help thank you

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You leave 1/4 of the stitches unworked. Then you turn and go back continuing on the same stitches. Then you just work those same stitches again until it's the right length.

      You could use this yes, you'll just need to add some panda ears. Or you can follow this video if you like.

    I have a quick question, I want to make this for a good friend of mine for her birthday. My question is, how would I measure it for someone who will wear their hair in a bun underneath it? would I just do the normal measurement of her head or would I need to include the bun in the measurement? I don't want to give her any idea I'm making it though!

  • @deannemoon4841

    you only do the increase rounds fie the crown until the head circumference is where you want it then divide it into quarters right? you don't add 2 additional increase rounds after the circumference is right?

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      you crochet do your increases until you reach your crown measurement. then you do 2 more rounds of increases after that

    Question, I want to make this, but I want it to attach to a sweater. If I start from the sweater, which would be the 3/4 mark, I just make the circle backwards using decrease , then use the draw string technique to pull the last 12 stitches together?

    Hi ,
    I love all your patterns , but i'm stuck on altering this one from double crochet to half double crochet .... I'm at the crown point and my end result isn't a circle , it's more like an oblong ... I'm new at crocheting , so i started with 12 stitches(half double crochet).Should i have done something different?

      After yo make the hood, chain 103, finish that off, then attach yarn to other corner, chain 103 and then crochet back across

    I want to use the Red Heart Reflective yarn to make this for my truck driver son. Would it work for this since it does not stretch as much as acrylic yarn?

    • @CrochetwithClare

      +Virginia Thompson hi, yes you could use the reflective yarn. you would just need one strand and the hook recommended for the yarn.

    I love this! Im in the middle of making one right now, but I was wondering if you could like weave a tie in around the hood and be able to pull the strings and tighten the face instead of changing the stitch your using? like in a real Hoodie? :) or would that just not work?

    You didn't explain why you ignore the turning chain when joining stitches at the end of a row, but it looks like it eliminates the dreaded gap. Is that the reason?

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +YY4Me133 Yes at the end of each row if it is a sc or a hdc I always do the chain and then crochet into the first stitch, this always gets helps in disguising the hole :)

    • @YY4Me133
      @YY4Me133 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      bobwilson123
      Ah, I was right. I think you should explain that in your videos, because most of us are accustomed to counting the turning chain as a stitch. The way you did it is great...it leaves no gap. You can be sure I'll use your method the next time I work in the round. :o)

      you really only need to make the scarf as long as her arm span and the hat will go right in the middle of that
