It is absolutely invaluable when you post how to adjust a project that didn't turn out as expected. It is not only useful for making adjustments to the current project. It is helpful in applying to future projects, including when working on original designs. You are the best!
Another great project. I sure love your layed back attitude. It makes crocheting and learning more fun. The scoodie fits great and should be a comfort this winter. Thanks!
I don't crochet or knit but I really enjoy watching people make beautiful things. I make jewelry myself. I have someone in my life who is just starting the crochet journey and I will show them your video. It was fun to watch thank you.
Thanks you so much for posting this video! Especially with how to fix it, very creative solution and it looks gorgeous! Made one myself as a present to my sister-in-low. She works at the fair every weekend and was very pleased with it. Now her ears, neck and head stay cosy and warm while she's selling stuff at the fair.. thanks again!
Love your technique for closing the top of the hood. You are truly a professional and I have learned so much from your video's. You make crocheting soooo easy!! Thanks so much.🐝
I've just completed an scoodie for my daughter using the Wicked colour of King Cole Riot Chunky. It looks so good and I could never have done it (or any crochet I've done) without you! Thank you for your wonderful instructions and tutorials!
I had a beautiful hoodie scarf I had bought 2 yrs ago. In Edmonds, WA, USA. Was so upset I lost such a gorgeous piece. Now I 'm making a multi color (Black, gold, and silver) Scoodie. I hope to post a picture when I'm done. This time I will put a button on it to not lose it!!! :) I love your videos. I started crochet using your tutorials. Thank you
Thank you. I love that we not only see the mistake we see how you correct it. I definitely think this will be one of my winter evening projects ... it will make great xmas gifts xx
I have recently discovered your videos and I love them. You are so sweet and you are very clear with your tutorials. I have just started to polish up my crocheting skills from years ago when my grandmother first taught me and your videos are such a huge help. Thank you
Thank you for exceptionally good camera work on Scoodie - part 2. The instructions for enlarging the hoodie size are priceless. I previously crocheted several scoodies as gifts, but they need to be made bigger; I thought I would have to start over, but your tutorial saved the day! Great tutorial!
I love your tutorial! I've only been crocheting for about a year & sometimes things don't always come out 'by the book', so having you purposely 'mess up' helps me ALOT! Much better than me unraveling all my stitches and starting over! Thank you :)
I finished my Scoodie!!!!!! However someone liked it so much, that I sold it for $50.00!!!! Now to work on my own and I am going to make the scarf more like a cowl with the hoodie! I am also going to make a scoodie with pockets at the end of the scarf! Just make the scarf longer!!!!! Thanks so much it's only been 3 months that I have been crocheting! GREAT THERAPY!!!!!!
Thank you so much for your pattern my co-workers ask me to make scoodies for them when they saw me crochet a afghan for a Christmas present. this is the most fastest and easiest scoodie ever! I took a short cut on the yarn. Hometown USA or some other bulk yarn works up real thick and quick.
wow! what a great idea! my youngest has special needs & hates wearing a hat so this is perfect for her. i have made one this weekend & love it =) Thank you for the fab tutorials, following these have renewed my love for crochet xxxx
You are an amazing teacher! I now know the cause of so many mistakes I had been making as I tried to teach myself crochet as well as a bunch of new stitches! I just finished the crib/purse for a niece and it turned out great and am now making this scoodie for another niece! Thanks so much for these wonderful vids! (PS I am going to make my scoodie long enough to add pockets on the ends!)
Love this video. I saw a scoodie few years back and asked my mum if she could knit me one, but it never happened. I´ve now got into crochet I followed your video instructions and made one myself. I actually prefer the look of the hood with the correction/front section added on, so I left mine a bit small at the front and added on an extra colour. It turned out a bit bulky, but nice and warm. I also added a small pocket on one end of the scarf. Thanks for sharing this with us. :)
... i have been searching on google for SOOOO LOOONNGGG to try and find a pattern that i can use (cuz the other ones were dumb/not free/hard to read/not what i wanted) until i found this... OMG i never realized how relatively simple it could be! THANK YOU!!!
I just finished the scoodie, everyone loves it. I used two different colors of yarn...not on purpose but because I'd bought some yarn at the King Dollar and I ran out went back to get more but they had run out. Anyway since I'd already made the scarf I decided to crochet the hoodie in white. I may have made the hoodie to big but the front folds back prettily, so I believe I do like it that way. Thank you so much for your videos, I'm a beginner beginner, so they are most helpful. *:)
I finished your Scoodie and love it! It was much easier than I thought and I am so happy to have finished a project! I loved your instructions! Thank you! I will send you a picture. It is 2 colors, and looks pretty cool.
I just got done making my Scoodie ( Scarf/Hoodie ). I made mine Red. It looks harder to make then it really was ,it was pretty easy to make . Thank you,Clare
I love your tutorials! I just made this for my daughter onlu made the scarf short anf wide and attached with buttons. It is so cute! Thank you so much.
Loved this, it was quite tedious to make but the end product is well worth it! I will be making more to give out as Christmas gifts. Thank you so much.
I been wanting to make a scoodie for so long , I happen to talk to my friend about wanting to make a scoodie and she is a big fan of knitting and so on. She sent me the link to your video and I must admit one of the best tutorials I have seen here on TH-cam some people just go through everything fast and barely show us stitches like you have so thank you heaps you have gained a subscriber
I thought I would share my measurements and I think my scarf came out perfectly. The length of my scarf was 76 in., the height was 6 in., the length of the hood 18 in., and the height of the hood 11 - 12 in. It is a wonderful pattern, thank you very much for sharing.
Good on you for going the distance with your hood and sharing your solution to the issue. Of course one could always pull the hood back and redo it...but it's also good to see what can be done to rectify the issue and complete the project. Love the hooded scarf
THANK YOU for posting this video with the mistake! Like that us beginners can have a better idea of what to do in case it goes wrong.. :-) I have seen many crochet videos, yours are the easiest to follow and very well explained! Keep up the excellent work!
I'm making a scoodie for my best friend and I'm really hoping she likes it C: Thank you SO much for the video. You have no idea how much it helped with the initial hood section~
Your videos are wonderful. It is amazing how you can stitch around a camera. Your insight and techniques are so helpful. The way you finish closing the hood is something I have never tried. I love how it looks. I have been crocheting forever, so different approaches are exciting and fun to try. I have added a hood to a cross body cowl and I love how it looks !! Thank you so much for doing what you do :)
Hello, I started to crochet not too long ago and find your tutorials very helpful and easy to understand so thank you so much for taking time out of your day to teach others. I think the mistake was a good thing because I want to make this scoodie in two colors and this worked out perfect, now I know where I can start my second color at. I'm looking forward to more of your tutorials. Thanks! have a wonderful day :)
Oh! I have finished the scoodie anyway, thanks. ppl are asking about the point at the top of the hat, mine did not have the point, I guess because of the way I crochet each rows and the way I joined it together. But thanks Bob for the video and all your help. Gonna work on some fingerless gloves now.
This really helped me a lot! I'm in the process of making my own hooded scarf and I've been searching for patterns everywhere and found yours on Pinterest.
Love how mine come out thank you very much for the tutorial. Love all your work its easy to follow. I get to use mine for my boys foot ball games. Love It love It!!!!
Just came across your video and wanted to take a moment to thank you. I've been crocheting forever and was going to try to make one of these without a pattern. I don't understand the negative comments. We should work together so that we each learn something. Just wanted to say thanks. I like the border too and my daughter with disabilities can use one of these so she doesn't lose her scarf again. Dee
This is the first time I've seen one of your videos & I really am impressed with your filming from in front. I can imagine it's quite awkward for you, but it is just the greatest way to see up close and the way the stitching appears to the crocheter. Love this versatile project and can't wait to start making this for each of my 4 granddaughters. I should be able to measure the hoodie size as shown, on each little head, and, if I miss, I'll add a border or use a smaller needle for a tighter edge.
I like this video Claire, I'm making a scarf for my niece and I,'m thinking of adding a hoodie to it and I like the your way of doing that. I'll post a picture when I'm done thank you again
@veronica5416 Yes i agree, as you can see i totally got it wrong, thought i would just leave it in and show you how to fix it and i thought it looked kool with the border :)
Love your videos and your site/blog. I made my son a scoodie and he loves it. I would put the picture here but it won't let me. I'm just getting started and out of every other tutorial I prefer yours. So I make sure I look for yours first. Thank you. I'm looking forward to more crocheting.
Nice to put a face to the voice, your videos are so helpful and easy to follow, you make it easy... cause you explain properly and are a great tutor. thanks. will try them. will keep you posted
Clare thank you so much for all your tutorials. It was because of you i was finally able to figure out and make a beautiful 'mile a minute' afghan and have now done this skoodie for my daughter. I will try and post a pic of it on her on your website.( I need a class in computer for dummies so I hope i can do it!) Merry Christmas to you and yours and I hope Santa brings you lots of yarn and bright shiny hooks!!
Thanks so much. With your Help I will be able to finish Xmas Gifts for my Family. This video has taught me alot exspecially with how to extend whe I make it too short. Your amazing. I follow many of your Posting videos& tell many of my facebook friends who crochet about you.
thank you, i had to come to get the size of the smaller hook all most finish with my starburst scarf as my son call it i use yellow and a pretty pink yard
Hi. thank you so much for this pattern, i was looking for a scoodie pattern for a while and i found it. I made it with two different shades of a light grey and it looks amazing. it took me around 2 and a half hours and i love it. :)
Always wanted to make one of these and now I have. I followed your "mistake" method and it turned out even better than I expected. I will send you some pics. I live in a hot country but I'm hoping we will get some cold weather so I get a chance to wear it out :D
I really enjoyed your tutorial. Very easy to follow you. I do have a question. How long did you make the scarf part of yours since you said you liked it long? Thanks
Just bought the yarn to do this. Wish I could get a written pattern, or some measurements. I always over estimate and will end up with a scoodie that will fit Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. I think it is great how the "mistakes" actually made a nicer finished product since the area framing the face has a nice finished edge.
Haha!! I see that someone else already mentioned turning up the ends to make pockets. I plan to make these for my sons this winter and may try adding the spikes from the dinosaur beanie. :-)
Hi, I would recommend the single crochet or half double crochet for warmth... What country are you in ? The worsted weight would be best if you are in the US
@kwistiny Sorry I can not remember the amount of yardage i used but i do know that i used 4 x 50gm balls. I used 2 at once. At a guess i would say that each of the balls was 150m in lengh..
I used your corrected measurement for the hood and even went past my chin for good measure as you said there was about an inch of shrinkage. Mine still ended up about as far back as yours. However, this is fine as I like the corrective border as it blends into the scarf in a really nice way in the front. I was actually going to add one row of half double or single crochet anyhow (when I thought I'd have enough) because I liked how the edge was finished that way in your tutorial. Good "mistake".
@SingDea Im sorry but i was thinking about my relply and i dont think that would work out,,,becasue the ends of the row once sewn together is actually the front of the hood not the back :( I dont know how to make it rounded :(
@MzCrochetDreams Yes I agree i like the mistake to, and i thought if a newbie made a mistake they may not know hot to fix it so i left it in the video...well thats my excuse and im sticking to it lololol
It is absolutely invaluable when you post how to adjust a project that didn't turn out as expected. It is not only useful for making adjustments to the current project. It is helpful in applying to future projects, including when working on original designs. You are the best!

I don't crochet or knit but I really enjoy watching people make beautiful things. I make jewelry myself. I have someone in my life who is just starting the crochet journey and I will show them your video. It was fun to watch thank you.
Love the way it turned out! Glad it was too short, gives it a better finished look! You are awesom!
Thanks you so much for posting this video! Especially with how to fix it, very creative solution and it looks gorgeous! Made one myself as a present to my sister-in-low. @Helenlouise3 yes i agree it turned out nice with the framing around the face =)
I am sorry but i do not have a written pattern yet =(
@veronica5416 Yes i agree, as you can see i totally got it wrong, thought i would just leave it in and show you how to fix it and i thought it looked kool with the border :)

@StarySky925 It is a brand that Big W here in Austalia sells..I can not remember the name and I have none left to check..It is really soft :)
Clare thank you so much for all your tutorials. It was because of you i was finally able to figure out and make a beautiful 'mile a minute' afghan and have now done this skoodie for my daughter. @MsZoologist1 Hi I can remember the yardage but I didi use 4 x 50 gm balls of 8pl/DK. Hope that helps
I SAW THE PADDED CROCHET HOOKS, GOT SOME AND JUST LOVE THEM,LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOAAS ALWAYSJHANNA
@moonshine408 No worries! thanks for watching :)
Thanks
@OreoCewkie Im guessing that you have already finished it ?? You could join your yarn on either end of the scarf and just add more rows ?
I was thinking the same thing.. Im in love with the border!
I love your videos, I learned so easy how to crochet lot of stuff and I also improve my english.. happy crochet to you too :)
YAY !!! thanks for watching :)
@SingDea You could try on the last 5 or so rows to not go right to the end on both ends ...did that make sence?
I think the different direction on the hood looks really good and I'm gonna do it that way 😀
G'day Christine B thank you so much ! Happy crochet ❤
Your Finished Project Is Gr8!!!!! I'll B Giving This A Try !!!
Hi! We love your videos here in Indiana, U.S.A.! I will post a vie response of my kitty kat scoodie when it is complete! Much love!
Just finished the scoodie, looks great :)
Hello **waves** thanks for watching
@matawa08 awww shucks ! thanks for watching
Thank you for watching ! I am so glad that you found me, it can be so frustrating when you cant find what you want, happy crochet !
Hi, to make pockets all you have to do is fold over the end of you scarf back on itself and then sew down the side seams :)
@sailorfullmoon If you are talking about the top of the hood then yes you can :)
this is so cute i just started making it in black i absolutely love it!! and its so simple :)
Haha!! I see that someone else already mentioned turning up the ends to make pockets. I plan to make these for my sons this winter and may try adding the spikes from the dinosaur beanie. :-)
Hi, I would recommend the single crochet or half double crochet for warmth... What country are you in ? The worsted weight would be best if you are in the US
Definitely going to make this in a brilliant red for my daughter... Little Red Riding hood. :D
Yes you can use one yarn to make it :)
This was a great idea! I loved it! Thanks so much for sharing. I am in the process of making it now :)
@imbakensewjoey thank you and thanks for watching =)
Mine turned out great! I love it thanks so much.
Hello ! Thank you for choosing my pattern, happy crochet :)
@kwistiny Sorry I can not remember the amount of yardage i used but i do know that i used 4 x 50gm balls. I used 2 at once. At a guess i would say that each of the balls was 150m in lengh..
Hi, you can use 1 strand of worsted weight :)
thank you and thank you for watching
I used your corrected measurement for the hood and even went past my chin for good measure as you said there was about an inch of shrinkage. Mine still ended up about as far back as yours. However, this is fine as I like the corrective border as it blends into the scarf in a really nice way in the front. I was actually going to add one row of half double or single crochet anyhow (when I thought I'd have enough) because I liked how the edge was finished that way in your tutorial. Good "mistake".
Thank you , I like it when a mistake becomes a design element :)
