The lead singer is David Lee Roth & he’s always been HEAVY into martial arts. Been known for pulling a sword out on stage & in a few videos for a few tricks. Even now days in retirement he’s still in high regards for martial arts & has a place in Japan near the Dojo that he practices/trains at. The band is named after the guitarist and drummer, Edward and Alex Van Halen. In rock-n-roll, there are people who build bridges, and people that walk over those bridges. Eddie was building bridges, as one of the most innovative guitarists of his era. A true gem!

Van Halen are a family of musicians. Dad Jan (clarinet, saxophone), brothers Eddie (guitar, piano), Alex (drums, piano) and Eddie's son Wolfgang (bass, drums, guitar and keyboards).

As you can tell only one change occurred but it was a doozy. What the band lost in showmanship Hagar made up for with one of the best voices in rock.
I'd recommend a comparison video. Jump was a perfect platform to start, you immediately caught Diamond Dave at his peak in a song with a strong positive message.
I recommend Dreams. Same vibe but with Sammy Hagar's smooth vocals taking you on a journey.
There was a third version as well and technically a fourth. Sammy Hagar got replaced by Gary Cherone and they did an album together and then Anthony got replaced by Eddie's son Wolfgang. That's another artist you need to check out as well Eddie's son Wolfgang has his own stuff out now and he's fantastic!

You like this, you'll love Panama! Eddie started on piano when he was younger, picked up the drums while his brother Alex picked up guitar. One day they switched and from then on Eddie was blessed with the virtuoso he turned into. Each one of his solos you can hear the dedication, passion, hard work, genius, genuine love for the endless possibilities of his instrument. After Panama, please listen to his solo from 'Live Without A Net".

It's funny you referenced Back to the Future as that is the tape that Marty played in George's ears via headphones when he convinced him that he was Darth Vader from the planet Vulcan to convince him to ask Lorraine out. Also, Marty mimicked Eddie's guitar style on the 50's stage act of Johnny B. Good

Two of the members were brothers (guitarist and drummer) whose last name is Van Halen - hence the name of the band.
Guitarist Eddie Van Halen who recently departed us (RIP) was regarded by most as one of or possibly THE greatest guitarist ever in a rock band.
This is a serious rabbit hole here! So so many good songs. The guitarist is Eddie Van Halen (RIP) and one of the greatest of all time! Check out the love version of his guitar solo called "Eruption". Amazing.

David Lee Roth is a martial artist, I think kenjutsu, he also studied kenpo, and uses swords in some of his videos. Dave is one of the most prolific frontmen of the 80's, and as word has it, was JACKED UP ON COCAINE for a decade or three.

U were actually correct 😂 Van Halen is 1 guy, but it's the guitarist - the late Edward Van Halen... but his older brother Alex Van Halen was the drummer, so technically 2 guys named Van Halen. There were acts like Santana, Fleetwood Mac, Montrose... which were not named after the bands' singers.
When the band got together in Pasadena, Cali in the 1970's, the singer David Lee Roth joined the brothers' band around 1973, which went by various names... Roth recognized that the young Eddie Van Halen was a phenomenal guitar player, so he suggested the name Van Halen for the band... it was a marquee name that would draw people to come & see Eddie play live... Also, David Lee Roth wasn't the best singer live, but he came from rich parents and provided the band w/ rehearsal space and organized the visuals of their stage shows. Michael Anthony (bass) joined around 1974 and also did backup vocals.
By the time Eddie Van Halen turned 21 and Van Halen could play the bars & clubs of L.A. and the band was hot 🔥by 1976. Gene Simmons of Kiss offered to help Van Halen record demos, but couldn't find a record label to sign them. Van Halen was finally signed in 1977, and the first Van Halen album in 1978 turned the rock world on its head w/ Eddie Van Halen's guitar skills and David Lee Roth's acrobatic moves on stage - that record sold 10 million copies in the US.
'Jump' became a #1 single from the album '1984' of the same year... that record also sold 10 million copies. By this point, Eddie Van Halen got into keyboards, even as Roth insisted that he didn't want keyboards in Van Halen.
We lost Edward Van Halen to cancer in 2020 (R.I.P. 😪🤘🤘)

The best show I ever saw was Van Halen, and it wasn't because of the concert, just one part of it. Eddie and David were the only ones on stage. They had their own "dueling banjos" type of competition. Eddie would play some outrageous rift on the guitar and then David would top it vocally, then back to Eddie to up the ante, and then David topped him again, and this went on for 5 -10 minutes it was pure magic. There was no symphony, no opera, no performance that I have ever seen and heard that has ever compared since that night in 1982. And I didn't even want to go to the concert, I wasn't a huge Van Halen fan at all at the time, but my girlfriend at the time made me, and I am so thankful she did for that 10 minutes of musical perfection.
Another suggestion is one of my favorites. Skid Row's Remember You. Beautiful vocals

There is a very high likelyhood of you having heard these songs since they are some of the most well known rock songs of history but regardless would like to see your opinion on them even if you have heard them. Especially Bon Jovi since they have been my favorite band for the last 15 years and one of the best birthday presents i ever got was when my mom got their 30 year anniversary best hits cd and it was the 2 cd deluxe edition 🥳🥳🥳

the clothes and hair were a little crazy but perfect for the 80s, the message is spot on sometimes you just gotta take a leap of faith and jump, only the lead singer was into martial arts, they had so much fun

Eddie cudn't find guitars to do hat he wanted so he built them. Unfortunately his guitars lasted longer than him. Legendary guitarist passed last yr. U need to see hi unique skills on his Eruption solo.

Eruption, Unchained and Panama are 3 of the best Van Halen songs in my opinion. Hot for Teacher is fun too.

Eddie Van Halen and brother Alex, on the drums, were both trained pianists before they started their respective instruments. As children Alex wanted to be a guitar player and Eddie decided to play drums... Neither one of them got extremely good at it and they decided to switch instruments. That wound up being one of the most important decisions that they ever could have made

I see others have already explained the two main lineups of the band and it’s members, particularly the Van Halen brothers, Alex (drums) and Eddie (guitar)….I will just assure you that this song does not represent the band’s music as a whole….this is one of their more mainstream songs.
Just start with their self-titled debut album from 1978…..it blew people’s minds!

Jump, off the 1984 album. Van Halen is one of the Greatest Bands from the 1980's. The vocal is David Lee Roth who knew martial arts. Van Halen went through two Lead singer's, the other one is Sammy Hagar. All of Van Halen's music was, to barrow some 80's lingo "Totally Awesome, Tubular Dude and Narley Dude". Van Halen, Journey and Boston, just to name a few, were some of the Greatest Bands ever. There are many many more to name, but just Google 70's and 80's hair Bands, one will start to understand and Jam!

Fyi, this song is probably the least VH sounding Van Halen song. Most of their music is harder rock, and guitar driven. This song rubbed some old school VH fans the wrong way because of the synth to be honest, but when you're a self taught guitar god and virtuoso and a classically trained pianist, you can afford to not give a 💩 Yes, they have a huge following and die hard fans. Eddie and his brother Alex (drummer) are the Van Halens of the group. Michael Anthony on bass and the gymnast is none other than David Lee Roth. Black belt martial artist and probably one of the greatest rock front men to ever exist. As others have mentioned, before you move through VH's extensive catalog, you need to check out Eddie Van Halen's Eruption solo, live without a net video. It's important to understand that you are dealing with a guitarist of legendary status, named in several different lists as the #1 guitarist of all time, before you move on.
