    Great information. Definitely not cheap. How often would this need to be done?

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      The nice thing is that this total treatment only needs to be done once. Then every 2 or 3 years you have the exposed parts "touched up" and that costs next to nothing since nothing needs to be taken apart. I have pinned your comment because I forgot to mention this in the video. Thanks for asking.

      The one recommended is Alerco in Anjou, but this is not cheap. I got a quote this morning for $950 for my Soul EV 2021 and for the touch up every 2 years it's $120. Need to be in no rush to get the treatment as their waiting list is about 8 month and it take them 1.5 days to complet the jobs

    Impressive amount of time and effort! Not a bad price for that much labor. I wonder where these people were trained? Is it a chain? I'm sure that your video will help get them more customers, so it's definitely to their benefit to have allowed you to film.

      Yes, it is a big job. The person who did my car owns the business, his brother also has a shop, it is a family business that has existed since the 70s. I made a point of not mentioning the business name since he did not want any extra business. As mentioned in the video he is booked out 1 year in advance, as is his brother. You can watch the part of the video that starts at 16:25, where I explain it all.

I had mine treated at a Montreal area shop that does pretty much the same procedure and I'm amazed at the product, especially compared to the old oil based rust-proofing I had done on my other cars (from the chain we all heard about here in Quebec, not to name names).

      @@EV-olution On my side I contacted Alerco today which is closer to home then the one you used which is around Levis (+2h driving). But it's more expensive then what you paid (dunno if it's related to inflation from 2 years), they were asking 950$ for doing a Soul EV which is smaller then the EV6, I was expecting similar price in around $600. Also they are taking 1.5 days to complete the whole process too! I saw their videos they put on their website which look to be the same very meticulous method that will also last a life time and need to do touch up/check every 2 years (they charge 120$ for this which is reasonable).

    Great video and the guy you featured is one talented individual!
    I can see why he is booked a year in advance....
    I am lucky as I have a home shop with a car lift and I do my own oil sprays on my vehicles. I use many of the same techniques he used and I also learned a bunch by watching what he was doing.
    We also have an EV6 in Runway Red on order and expect it sometime this summer. Our 2023 Kona EV has been awesome and we pile the mileage on. I totally agree oil spraying is well worth it as it will maximize the life you get out of a vehicle. We rarely get rid of vehicles and usually wring every last drop of usability out of them before they leave. We usually end up selling our cars on to friends who need a winter car as they know how well maintained they are.
    About 15 years ago we sold our beloved 97 Aerostar AWD van with 490,000 km to a friend for a winter vehicle...they are still driving it! The body has finally succumbed to the rust worm but that is because they did not continue regular oil sprays...but it is still running!
    Anyway...Thank you for doing your videos they are great - especially the out takes at the end!

    I also don't want holes drilled in my car so I appreciate seeing an alternative rustproofing method. Maybe I missed this but how often must this treatment be done? Also, are certain manufacturers/models of EVs easier to do than others? Finally, any issues with breakage of plastic fasteners during the process? Even so, this was a great video. Thanks!

      @EV-olution  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much! Nope, you did not miss it, I forgot to mention it. I pinned the first comment that asked this question and answered it there 😎. This big treatment is only done once, but some exposed areas should be "touched up" every 2 to 3 years (2 is better). I asked about different models and he won't do just any car, but says the ones he does take a similar amount of time. Also, no broken parts or clips! It was fairly easy, but this is a new car so plastics are still flexible enough even though it was a long and cold drive (200+ km) to get there.

In the video I mention that it has to be the right product but since there is not one specific product, and the one used at this shop is a "family recipe" that has been evolved and developed since the 70s, I could not give a specific answer. This is why I mention that it has to be an appropriate product that is used, without giving a type/name. It boils down to trusting the place that does the work. This place is the second generation of owners doing treatments and they have been protecting cars for years, with excellent long-term results.

      Thank you very much, and thanks for watching. Regarding your question of treatment after 1 winter, I asked the question when I initially called him to make the video, but forgot to mention it in the video. Essentially, he said it is best to have it done before winter but it is not a problem, nor any worse, if you have it done after 1 winter. The first winter will dirty the car, but the grime won't get into everything in large quantity in the first year. So it's not a bad situation if you can't have it done until after, but I suggest booking your appointment as soon as possible. Are you in Eastern Canada and going to have it done at Steve's shop where I had it done?

      The product he uses is a family recipe that has been developped and improved for over 40 years. It will not get moldy, it will not leak, but it will get into every nook and cranny. I asked him about it and it's a family secret that has been proven on thousands of cars over decades of use and improvement by his father, himself and his brother in their 3 companies that specialize in rust protection. As for taking more time, this was a 5.5 hour job of meticulous application and attention to detail; so yes he takes more time and, as mentioned in the video, there is no drilling which is very important.

      The protection I had done is commonly known as, and misleadingly named, permanent rust proofing. This is far from the truth and it requires a touchup to areas exposed to water and snow ever 2 years. That means the under carriage, and a couple of spots like the bottoms of the doors need to be sprayed every 2 years, and it is done at a lower cost than the initial job. I don't have the cost of the touchup because it has only been one year.

      Being one of the first 200 in Canada I have had my EV6 since March 2022, so about 1.5 years now, and I have driven it a full winter. I had the car treated before winter because the faster you have it done the more efficient the protection is. I made this video because lots of people say to not get an EV protected, but an EV is just like any other car that is made of steel, it will eventually rust and the only way to protect it is to have it treated. My video explains all the details about who and where to go, and why. I hope this helps.

      Thank you very much. The touch up should be done every 2 years, is less complicated and costs less. The product he used is something that has been developped in house for decades, based on a known product. I don't have details because it is a family recipe.

      It is an interesting vehicle, but my channel is about 100% electric vehicles. I don't review hybrids or plug-in hybrids. Sorry.

      Yep! He has more than one 240V charging station in his garage. It was very convenient because this shop is over 200km away from my house 😎
