I agree, but like I mentioned in my video, there can be a compromise between 1000 buttons and 0 buttons. The Ioniq 5 looks like they understood what I mean and has a very interesting interior. I am really looking forward to seeing it.
I really like the charge port in the front. I also like the buttons on the car. I’d much rather use physical buttons than touching on the touch screen.
At my location there's a lot public charing spits or DC chatgers where front charging port is much easier to use, but yee if a needet to get in my driveway to charge I would rather hav it on the side(as he said in the video) so definitely personal preference
Hey Andre, totally agree with the points you raise. My E-niro (as it's known in Europe) is on order and should arrive middle of April. As far as the button - fest is concerned, I would rather have physical buttons than virtual ones - the new VW. ID 3 & 4 touch buttons are horrendous and the screen laggy. Talk about the worst of both worlds! Thank you for pointing out the issue with the charge flap - weather was something I hadn't even considered but I'll keep some de-icer and wet wipes in mine next winter 👍 Keep up the good work, your content is always worth watching.
First of all thank you for the next great video! A few things I would like to add/comment on (and yes I love my e-Niro MY20): 1.) Nose charging in my opinion is great (even my father as a tesla driver tells me he would love to have this). Yes it's messy in snow and mud BUT it's so much easier to reach short cable charger in public 2.) Autohold is sth. I never understood why it's always off - with other cars it's the other way round. Same for the cruise control 3.) The most annoying thing for me is the peeping. It's to loud, it's toooooo much - why do I need a chime whenever I push the start button, why is the reverse ping not coupled to the vess button? 4.) The front radar cover should be different. When I'm driving through snow mud or snowing weather the sensors comes clogged up in minutes with mud and all the assistance systems jump out the window 5.) Why is there no way to tell the car to preheat the battery? We have free fastchargers but with a cold battery the Niro will only charge with 22kW instead of the 50kW, especially in winter when the car needs more power it would be great to pump in the energy faster and end up with a full battery after the trip to the supermarket. 6.) First I thought the buttons weren't necessary but after a while they grew on me and now I wish I had two or three more I could program like the star. But to make it clear this car is great. The moment you realize the only problems you have to complain about are this minor it should dawn to everybody how great the car is.
3. At least in my car in Finland VESS include reverse beeping so by turning it off the car is silent both directions. 5. Maybe e-Niro would take more time gaining the lost energy at the charger (because pre-heating uses energy)?
Charging Door - I think the front was chosen for several reasons. I believe that in many charging situations this is the best option. Pulling up to a Level 2 or 3 charger when on the go works very well. In a garage with another vehicle is not very convenient with it on the side as it can make it more difficult to walk past or between vehicles. This is one of the reasons for folding mirrors I believe. Most people drive forward into a garage which makes the most sense for a placement of charger on the wall in front of the vehicles. The charger can also be better utilized for two EV also. Kia should have engineered the charging door better for the front since they chose that location. I’m glad I don’t have to deal with the snow so I’m happy 😃. Looking forward to your upcoming videos 👏 😊
If the charging port was on the back, like on the new Kia EV5 (CV Imagine), Tesla vehicles, etc, and you back into the same parking spots, then you could use all of your points in the exact same way. The cable would not be on the sides in a garage, the port would be close if you backed into a charging spot, and you get the added benefit of being safer when you pull out of any parking spot. This is my main issue with the port being on the front. It is a well known fact that driving out, front first, where you have the best visibility and attention, is far safer than backing out of a parking spot. There are numerous articles about this. FYI... I am jealous of you not having snow 😎
@@EV-olution I agree that if they could place the charging port on the rear that would be really good. I noticed when traveling in Texas that a lot of ICE drivers liked to back into parking stalls and these were parking stalls where they could not pull forward into. I really like your video introduction. I look forward to seeing your next videos. 😊
It is always nice to see an owner’s perspective, rather than a dealer! What is my mileage experience? Does winter driving effect it? Maybe a video on how to prep and operate in cold climates like QC?
I actually made a video about EVs in the winter (link below), but generally speaking I get about 300km in the winter and 400km in the summer. To learn more about EVs in the winter here is the video I made: th-cam.com/video/fepat58rgIQ/w-d-xo.html
Been waiting for this video :) Firstly I want to comment MY opinion about the things you listed: 1. I actually have MY20 which has the most of that material. I don't mind the fingerprints or dust for some reason. My wife every now and then cleans them up when she's bored. I'm more irritated of the reflection of it because it reflects the passanger view to the side which teems in my side-eye. But I have to say, this has been a problem very rarely. 2. I disagree about the parking. It's easier to park nose first (but harder to get out, naturally). But yeah, Tesla does this the best: side and back is the way! E-Niro community here in Finland have had multiple broken hatches, probably also because of the ice. 3. I don't mind buttons. Once driven a few thousand kilometers, I got used to where they are. But I agree about the fact that there are many that are not used. 4. YEAH!! Auto hold should be always on! Omg, I so agree. Why would we need the feel of an ICE car in an electric car by default? My only explanation is that they are thinking about first-time drivers that are used to an automatic ICE car. 5. Haven't had problems with the 12V.. yet. Seems like the problem is foreign (maybe a different battery or MY). So only 1,5/5 matches. Good, I guess :) Thanks for the great video and your bloopers makes me always laugh :))
I am really looking forward to seeing more of the new Kia EV5 and I hope they fixed these things. Regarding the 12V battery, I forgot to mention that it is also a software issue where the battery saver does not do its job properly and supposedly there is a software update to fix it. I am glad you like my video... and my bloopers 🙂 Thanks for watching.
Just decided to buy a 2019 E-Niro today. Personally one of the reasons I got an E-Niro was the charge port position, due to having a specific parking spot in a garage where I have to park quite close to a wall. So if the charger is on the right hand side I wouldn't be able to use it (some VWs for example does this). I see your point though. They could have made some changes to make the charge port less prone to freeze shut. Also I like buttons and knobs. But yeah it does have a lot of them. I'm just looking forward to see how it would be long term, how reliable it is as I want to keep it for a while. That part seems promising from what I've read online though.
I loved my Niro EV, I had it for 3 years and it was very reliable. From the things I have read you should not have any issues in the long term. Congratulations on your new-to-you e-Niro 😎
First time car buyer here, and your videos are super helpful (and also entertaining)! Thank you so much. Hope you're having fun with them and staying safe in these crazy times :)
Thank you, I really appreciate your comment. That is the main reason I started my channel, to help people learn about EVs, so I am glad I could help... and entertain 😎.
Best video so far, more fun and dynamic good job! In Europe as soon you got in the car you will have to turn off the Lkass and Vess and that is over boring!
Thank you very much for the comment, it means a lot to me because that is exactly what I had in mind when making the video. I wanted to have more fun making it, which should make it more fun to watch. It is hard to do when you make videos alone though 😎
Auto Hold button is a handy one as pulling out of a side street or drive with poor visability you can switch off the auto hold and have better control on creeping forward until your clear then switch back it back on for normal driving.
This is exactly what I do. I always turn it on, but when I need to creep I turn it off. I really wish you could set it as persistent on in a setting. It would be so easy to program in a software update.
Loved your start, so well done and worth the effort as looked fantastic! I am due to recieve my mew E Niro 4+ any time and looking forward to my first electric car. I agree front charge point will be annoying as I am also one of those drivers that will reverse into parking spots all the time. Maybe difficult to learn and can imagine I will reverse in and then have to turn around! My biggest gripe is all the musical ding dong rubbish that I will have to put up with, when starting the car, so I would love to be able to switch those off! Finally, thanks for throwing the outtakes as it shows however professional and calm you appear, it has taken lots of effort to get that right. Maybe it will give me more confidence to try things. Thanks again and love your channel.
Wow! I really appreciate this comment a lot. It is hard work to make a video like this and sometimes can be frustrating, but I am not afraid to show that I am human, just like everyone else 😎. There is no perfect, not in the Niro and not in me 😎
Buttons are good, better for tactile feedback and eyes off use allowing driver to focus on outside views. M3 has a stupid TV touch screen out of the drivers eye line, with zero tactile feedback requiring 100% eyes on to use. Tesla went OTT, drivers should have some physical buttons for better usability ergonomics, and at least a speed on the dash right in front of the driver
About the black plastic, totally agree. One possible "solution" (out of the owner's pocket of course) is to install a "satin" or mat PPF. I did it on my center console of my Model 3 and it "fixed" the problem (or I guess I should say it covered the problem).
I thought about 3M wrapping the plastic, but since the car makes no creaking noises and is very tight I decided against taking things apart to wrap them. I did not want to introduce noises into a very quiet car. Your idea was my first instinct though 🙂
I agree 90%, all but the buttons (just my opinion 😉 ). Coming from a 2013 Volt, whose infotainment console is a mess, the Niro is a significant improvement. On the charge door, 1000% agreement. In an area where, when it rains it can RAIN, I’m not confident the door and covers are sealed enough when driving on a highway. Now I’m going to check the 12v battery, thank you for the warning! Still the best, and nearly most fun, car I’ve ever owned!
I haven't had an issue with most of the things you mentioned. - Gloss Black: hasn't bothered me at all - Charge port: I love it being in the front. Granted, where I live, there's no snow. - Buttons: I don't really care either way but I'll grant you there are a lot. - Auto Hold: I actually find this feature to not be very useful so its non-persistence doesn't bother me. - 12V battery: I've had no issues whatsoever with mine. I've had my Niro for about 15 months. Personally, one of my biggest annoyances with the car is that the passenger seatbelts tend to get twisted very easily after use and then bang against the car while I'm driving (when not in use).
If you have a 2020 then the Battery Saver+ has been corrected to fix the issue. As for the seatbelts, I forgot that one. It is on a list for an eventual part 2 😎
Thanks for this! I'm in Greater Vancouver and looking to getting this as an intro to EV driving. Personally, prefer buttons, but your opinions are truly valid, especially the charge port at the front.
If you choose the Niro EV for your first EV you are going to love it. My Niro EV has been the best car I have owned in 35 years. If you don't know my channel then you may want to have a look at several of my videos that are dedicated to my Niro EV. I provide lots of tips and explain some hidden features. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it 😎.
I agree with all your points (except that personally I didn't have any problems with the 12V battery 🤞) and I think you could have add few more as why it is not possible to manually activate the battery heating system in advance for fast charging? Thanks for your good video!
Good Post! I’m not having problems with battery yet but I would like to get ahead of it. Can you post the details about the battery you purchased, name model # etc. Thanks.
Thanks Paul. The battery I bought is the Batteries Expert Bolt-47AGM. Here is the link: www.batteriesexpert.com/en/batteries/automotive-batteries/1010115067b-47-boltagm-batt-agm-gr-47l2-12v-640cca-100rc
Great video. The Auto Hold button is really annoying. I like the charging door on the front because I don't have to drag (often) short charging cables across the front of the car to plug in to a side port. Also...I love the buttons. I can live with all these quirks...I just want an AWD version. One big annoyance is that the driver's seat randomly loses its "exit" setting - where it slides back (or fails to do so) once the car is turned off. So bizarre.
Great content... as usual from you. Thank you. I would add, Kia not not fitting LED lights all round as standard. Instead of the owner having to upgrade the external lights and maybe the internal lights, to both use less energy and give a bright illumination, especially when reversing. The eNiro/Niro EV now does have some LEDs but only on the top trim level.
Another great video. Haven't taken delivery of my new-to-me 2020 Niro EV SX Touring, but already gobbling up all the info I can find, and your channel is right up there. Thank you!
Why have a charge socket on the front? For rapid charging, most rapid charging cables are short, often when it’s on the wing you have to offset your parking to plug in, the back wing is ok’ish but suffers the same issue, and cost more in production wire to inverter location
If the charging port was on the back of the car, like the upcoming Kia EV5, you can simply back into the quick charging parking spot instead of front first and it would be the same use as when the port is in the front.
@@EV-olution same issue on gen 1 rapids the cable is to short , if you notice most new chargers are off set to the side to accommodate the new charge locations
Very nice video, but you should add 2 more things... With the auto hold memory, my italian 2020 e-Niro also resets auto high beam and lane assist every time the car is powered off! Very annoying!!! About refection, i find more annoying the front light used during charging, that bother me a lot more than internal plastics! Just to let you know, i also had a 12v battery discharged one time, and my Niro is only a 6 month old!
Yep, buttons are better and I am happy that my EV6 is a nice middle ground between too many, like the Niro EV, and none, like in a Tesla. It is interesting that the 2022 Niro EV keeps Auto Hold active after powering off the car! That is good news.
Nice video :) Can't agree about too many buttons - it's nice to have physical buttons and knobs for the climate control and other stuff, like nav/media shortcuts. TBH at the start I thought You might address the issue with really ugly look of the rear hatch after any use of the rear cleaning spray xD it seems to me just so much more messy than other cars...
Hi André! How is that new 12v working a year later? Can you tell me exactly what battery you bought? Mine keeps dying after almost two years as well, very frustrating
Hello. My AGM battery is still excellent and is going strong, even with my dual dashcam setup. I do however disconnect the dashcam if I don't drive for 5 to 7 days in a row and it is very cold outside. It's a good thing you asked, I forgot to put it in my list of things I bought on my Website. I went to Batteries Expert and bought the battery linked below. It is slightly wider than the original so I had the plastic battery tray right edge trimmed off so they could install it. It took them 20 minutes to find a battery that "fits", but only 5 minutes for the trim and install. It has been solid ever since. www.batteriesexpert.com/en/information/bolt-batteries/bolt-agm/1010115067b-47-boltagm-batt-agm-gr-47l2-12v-640cca-100rc
I agree about auto hold, I wish I could set it on by default. I also wish auto hold would engage when stopping with the left paddle, but no, you have to tap the brake to engage it at a stop.
The fact that there is no way to preheat the battery before a DC charging. And also that French version doesn't have heat pump or battery heater... That's bad. Otherwise I love it
As usual, great video and your English il easy to understand. Don't change anything. I agree with the heat pump SHAME in France. Personnally I don't understand why sitting on such a big amount of energy, a 12V battery is needed. If you could explain or make a topic, I am sure that I am not unique.
@Arthur Séval, I really don't understand why they removed the heat pump for some countries that do get colder weather, even if it is not -20C, you get benefits from a heat pump even at 5C. I also agree that not being able to preheat the high voltage battery is silly.
@Gilles G13, merci beaucoup, j'apprécie 🙂. Regarding the 12V battery, I do mention why it is in EVs, but yes, it could be the subject of a short video. If you want to see the basic reason it is in my video about the hood struts. Merci encore.
@@EV-olution what is event more dismounting is that a heat pump is more efficient by 5 degrés Than - 20. At this extreme low temp a PTC is equivalent to a heat pump.
I personally like the charge point in front as my charger in my garage is right in front of my car. Also, I love the buttons. I would not want a touchscreen for everything like the Tesla has. What if the screen goes out, that means you can't drive your car at all in the rain because you can't get to the wipers or other stuff you have to have. I do agree about the crappy 12 volt battery.
The tactile feel of buttons is also a safety thing. Once you get to know your car you can operate them without taking your eyes of the road. Try that with a touchscreen...
Like I mention in the video, there can be a middle ground between no buttons like in a Tesla, and button madness like in the Niro EV. Things that are essential, like climate control, radio, wipers, should be buttons, but there are so many things that could be in the center screen and allow for a more clean interior design. The new Ioniq 5 looks like Hyundai has understood what I mean and I am really looking forward to seeing it in person. Regarding your garage, did you not choose where to install the charging station? I always back into parking spots so I placed my charging station based on that.
I love all your videos and recommendations. This is a great topic and I wanted to comment on a few: 1. Auto-hold is great when driving since I live near mountains and hate using the brake at a stop when on an incline. But I did find one issue with it active all the time. When getting into an automatic car wash where your tires get assisted along a track, the Auto-hold will hold your brake and you can't proceed even when in Neutral. So I figured out I had to turn-off the Auto-hold for the car to be moved along the track. 2. My biggest pet peeve is the UVO app. No matter what you want to do on it, it takes about a minute or two to actually communicate with the car (if it does at all). With today's advanced technology, you'd think Kia would have instant and reliable connections, especially with such a hefty annual subscription to keep it. 3. The Cam-Wipe is excellent and does its job perfectly. I just wish the designer would've made it more secure. Every time I go to a car wash I feel I have to remove it so it doesn't get lost in the wash. 4. The key fob panic button is way too sensitive to anything that touches it. I know now not to keep it on a key chain so nothing else can trigger it, but that's inconvenient. 5. On cruise control, sometimes the front sensor does not see a car ahead stopped at a light (even with its red tail lights) while I'm approaching above about 50 mph. So I've had to quickly use the brakes to take over. Hopefully that's a software/firmware update that they'll improve later.
Yes, the slow UVO app is nerve wrecking. That thing needs to be redeveloped by a programmer who actually has a Kia and wants to use it on a daily basis. I think Kia is also saving a bit on the back end processing. Maybe the car is slow in executing the commands it receives, but that is hard to tell from the user experience.
The smart cruise control failing to see a stopped car at a traffic light also scared the hell out of me when that happened to me the first time. For safety reasons I don’t use the SCC anymore on roads with traffic lights.
@Roque Salas thank you very much. Regarding your points... 1) I know what you mean as I turn it off when I need to let the car creep. Like when parking in a tight spot, but it is far easier to turn it off occasionally than to have to turn it on all of the time. 2) The UVO app is painfully slow, but I did not mention it in the video because it generally always works, even if slow. It is also free for several years so I can't really complain for somthing I am not paying for monthly. If I paid for the service then I would be all over it. 3) Like with any car and an automatic car wash you are required to remove loose items. The Camwipe is just a cliped on item with a long arm that can be ripped off easily in a brush car wash so you should remove it every time. I never use automatic brush car washes because they are bad for the paint of the car, but I even remove my Camwipe when I go to a touchless car wash. 4) The panic button... I wish I had remembered this one as it would have made it into my video. I have had the alarm go off late at night because I crouched down to pick something up and the panic button got pressed in my pocket! 5) The SCC is not perfect, but it is also not autonomous driving and not designed for roads with lights, only highways, so I don't rely on it trying to see stopped, or slowed vehicles that are further up. I just turn off SCC and use regen to slow down myself. I tested it a few times and sometimes it sees the car that is stopped, but other times it barely notices a car that has slowed down a lot, depending on the angle of the road, the curve in the road, my speed, etc. I wish it was better, but since I did not have the feature before I don't mind it having some flaws. 🙂
@@EV-olution the SCC is very good at detecting moving objects slowing down and will even bring the car to a full stop if the moving object in front of you also stops. It apparently compares objects with its surroundings. If an object is not moving when it comes in range of the radar it is considered part of the surroundings. So yes, not good for autonomous driving, just an assist on keeping the right pace when driving on the highway with other vehicles in front of you also driving. I tried it in city traffic too, especially when there is a lot of stop and go behaviour and in that use case it works as well. Once stopped longer then a few seconds you can reengage the SCC by flicking the cruise control switch on the steering wheel or tapping on the acceleration pedal.
I am glad you like them, they are a bit embarrassing, but like I have mentioned in the past, if I can’t laugh at myself then I can’t laugh at anything. I wish my 20 year old self knew this 😎
@@EV-olution Not embarrassing for you, just funny in general. People should know it takes time to make videos and not everyone is a perfect presenter. Talking on camera and having a clear concise video takes years of practice.
Great video, as usual, André. I really appreciate the effort and the "touch of humor" you put into each video. Thank you. I also have a Niro EV 21 but is standing in garage because of the lockdown 😂 just drove 50 kms. Cheers from Portugal
Agree with the auto-hold and some other options having to be turned on each time you drive the car. I just purchased a 2022 EX Premium. I have so many questions, but my dealer has limited knowledge on EVs (a case I found with many dealers regarding EVs.... Sometimes I think I know more than they do by my Google researches so far - and that isn't much!! Yikes!) Is there a database or place to ask questions on the car or is it "web search" to the rescue? I have a simple questions: Is there a way to change the HOME SCREEN and USER pictures to ones of our choosing? Also irritating: The car gives me the option to change accent lighting COLOR on the lights that surround the center console, the Drive/Reverse knob, and trim on the dash BUT its standard RED color cannot be changed on the dashboard controls. So it looks strange to have two different light colors -- If you're giving me the option to change colors, why would I not be able to change ALL color aspects so it MATCHES?!?
Unfortunately there are not many dealers that have EV enthusiasts working for them. This means, in general, that the person shopping knows more about the car than the dealer. The only real place to get answers to questions is on TH-cam, like with my channel, but more specifically in dedicated Facebook groups. There are many Niro EV groups that have answers to questions that are already posted. I am not sure about the user images since mine is a 2019 and the 10.25" screen was not available back then. I am pretty sure you can find out here: facebook.com/groups/NiroEVCanada
Thank you for producing fun and interesting content. I've been wathing quite a few of your videos in preparation to going on summer vacation with my 2020 e-niro. I have my own why/wtf issue with the car. I cannot for the life of me understand why the front parking sensor does not switch on automatically below a certain speed. This is the behaviour I'm used to from other vehicles. I park in a tight garage, and for increased confidence that I dont bump into anything when parking, I need to switch on the sensor on a daily basis. Similiar to your comment on the auto hold, it would be nice if this was something one could set to on or off as default. On the note of auto hold, I personally prefer it off. Again when creeping into the garage, it is quite useful to just "ride" the brake pedal to inch the car forward. SImilarly, when driving on the "shared driveway" (tiny side road not intended for through traffic) of mine and my neighbours' houses, I find it comforting to have my foot on the brake at all times when manouvering in case children come running. In any case, this should be possible to set up per personal preferance.
Thanks for following my channel, I appreciate it. I hope you have subscribed 😎 I have heard of other 2020 e-Niro owners mention the front parking sensor behavior you wrote about and interestingly my 2019 always has them on at low speeds, I do not have to press anything. I don't understand why Kia would change that for 2020 and newer, or maybe it is a regional thing. I don't know.
1. No 12v socket in cargo bay. 2. Courtesy light in cargo bay cannot be switched off when tailgate is open. 3. $40K+ premium trim with no hood struts, no spare tire & manual tailgate. Etc...
The hood struts is one of them, I just forgot about it since I fixed the problem. That means that I also forgot the reverse lights being so crap that I had to change them! Man... I need to make a new video of things I hate 🙂
Some comments. 1. Is the original 12v battery, if dies, is it covered under Kia's warranty? 2. I like the charge port in the front, as most public charging stations are placed where pulling up to it is convenient. What I dont like is the charge port gets stuck/frozen when it's cold... and I dont like the dangling two lid covers.. so cheap.. I like Nissan LEAF cover and hinged lids... looks profession and spring open, less inclined to get stuck in cold. 3. I dont use AUTO HOLD... so I still dont get why it is so useful to many people. 4. I wish it had 360-camera like Chevy Bolt EV, that is such a good feature to see all around the car as you park ...
Regarding your question in your point #1... The 12V battery is covered by a prorata warranty. Meaning that you get a % rebate on the replacement battery depending on the amount of time you have owned the car. This is why I told the Kia dealer that I would not use their replacement.
I particularly agree about the shiny trim. That chrome-ey plastic bit under the infotainment screen is a hazard on bright days, especially around noon. I'm not a fan of excessive buttons either, and I would love to have the Hold button toggleable in the driver profile! Though I rarely use it, the Kia navigation is annoying to cancel a route. You have to jump through a bunch of hoops for something that shoud be an "X" on the nav screen.
Andre, I think the the buttons are a way to help one from touching the shiny black areas. 😆 I’m glad to see you get a good battery especially for your winter climate. I think Kia was thinking more about battery weight and cost. I always go for a longer lasting warranty battery for peace of mind and reliability. More cost because there’s more lead in the battery.and generally better made in my opinion. Thanks for another nicely produced video. 👍 👏 ✅
🤣 I had not thought of that! And thank you very much. The biggest problem about the 12 volt battery, is that the battery tender doesn't seem to do its job properly in the 2019 model year. In my rush to get this video made I forgot to mention that.
The Ford Mach-E has been said to have a good button to touchscreen ratio. However, I am sure there are WTF things in it as well including the use of that Piano Black plastic. BTW, loved the Intro!
Thank you very much. I want to make a comparison video of the Mach-E and the Niro EV, I prefer that doing it in the spring though, the cold makes it hard to record video and speak 🙂
shiny black trim ("piano black")= shows scratches and smudges. i prefer satin/matte/brushed. great observations. you would think manufacturers would accept feedback from users and improve their product incrementally over the years.
Thanks for the nice video, I agree with everything even if I have a hybrid.Veramente I am very bothered by the dashboard, they could do it black with silver reflections that would have mitigated the dust.
Great video! I also love my Niro (20) but some decisions... Can I add the way to activate cruise control? That should be a one click thing, always. Another one is that since the car produces little excess heat the front wheelbays kept clogging up. The shiny plastic doesn't bother me while driving but indeed you see every fingerprint on it
Thank you very much. One button cruise would be nice. As for snow and ice in the wheel wells, that happens on all cars I have owned so it is not a big one for me, but since there is no heat from an ICE, the snow and ice that freezes below the windshield where the wipers are, that is a big one for me. I wish Kia would have put a heating element along that area, connected to the defrost button, to allow you to clear the wipers of ice and snow.
I love the buttons!! Yes it's very 90s... My infotainment screen sometimes goes black...really irritating. Have to pull over and restart the car. Yep, just like a PC, gotta re-boot. Thankfully, it doesn't happen very much, but all in all, the car still works and the buttons can control the climate control, radio etc..
The 12v battery problem is technically not the batteries fault. It's seems like the firmware is crappy. I had my first issue 2 months after i got the car. But I got a firmware update and since then it's been fine. Might be a mix of a crappy battery and bad firmware on how it charges that small battery.
I agree and I should have mentioned that in the video, the software is not properly monitoring and charging the 12V. Even though the 12V is crap, it is the software's fault. In my rush to get the video done I did not properly think about how to frame the video segment. I will have to add an update in my next video. Thanks for pointing that out. I have asked my dealer about software updates in the past and was always told none for the 2019. I have to look into this more closely.
Based upon the number of people that have the battery problem I would say Kia should have installed a larger battery. I think weight and cost is why they did not.
I live in Norway and I believe I have had 1 firmware update in 2020 and 1 software update in to the infotainment and GPS in 2021. I have a 2019 model. After the most recent update the infotainment and map looks very different.
Don't take this the wrong way, but with the dark glasses on and the longish coat, you look a little like the Postal Dude :) Loved your hidden thing vids, being a e-niro owner of 5 days they have shown me a few things, thanks for the information in the previous vids. Regarding the glossy black in the interior of the 2021 cars I can say that in my short time of ownership that the passenger side glossy bit above the glove box really distracts the eye when driving as is reflects what is outside when the sun shines from behind. Best regards and keep up the good work, Lee.
🤣 that is funny, and don't worry, I think it is funny not insulting 😎. I really don't understand why manufacturers insist on using glossy finishes, it makes no sense. I am glad you like my videos and thanks for watching.
I noticed in the video you also have a P Release button in the middle console. I have one too, but nothing seems to happen when I press it. Any idea what its function is? The manual of my E Niro 2020 does not mention it.
The P Release will allow you to have the car towed, or to move the car in Neutral, if it no longer starts. It is not just a matter of pressing it though. I don't know how it works exactly, but I will find out and post about it.
I think that the button hell is a good hell to have. In case you haven't noticed yet, the ID3 and whatever models will spawn from that on, at VW, has tactile buttons almost everywhere, and you don't know what you're touching. Not to mention the touch-sensitive buttons from the steering wheel where they rather play tricks on you based on whether you just often so slightly try to reach for a desired command
Thanks, an entertaining video. I like buttons, and chose the Kia over a Tesla because of the easy control buttons. I also prefer the front charge door, but I can see in your environment is not good, as you say personal opinion. I have to agree the Niro is the best and most enjoyable car I have ever owned, and I have owned many so called premium cars.
In winter the charge port being up and over the pistol could offer some protection, but if the cover lifted up it would block the view of the port when plugging in, making it more difficult. If they made it open far up to not obstruct the view then it would offer no more protection than opening sideways 🙂
@@EV-olution It does protect a little bit of rain coming down when the lid flips up... also, it's more convenient, since the charging station can be to the left or right of the car.. With Niro EV, if the charger is on the passenger side, it has to wrap and may touch the lid when it is flipped left to open the charge point... front and center location is most convenient.
I have 2018 Soul EV, having the same issues. Charger port door gets frozen all the time in the winter, especially after a car wash in the winter. 12v battery die 28 months. Kia needs to do a better job on their EV. My Leaf didn't have the same issue with the front charger port door frozen in the winter or after a car was wash.
To complete my prévious comment, I love my eniro 2020 and the front charge too. In Marseille in France, we don't have so much snow or ice. The main 2 things I hate is not being able to close the 4 Windows at a time and being forced to press the stearing wheel every 10 seconds when driving "automatic".
I would love the sun and heat (only up to 30C for me though), but I don't know if I could take the earthquakes... I've seen too many movies about California slipping into the ocean 😋😎
@@EV-olution hahahah yes I think you have watched to many movies.. 90 percent of the time you don't feel any earthquakes. I live here in Northern California (SF Bay) and the might hit high 90F a few times in the summer. In the winter 45F is the lowest. Perfect for my Niro, I don't lose much range.
I turned off the maintenance reminder in my car and had my first inspection done at 21,000km. All I had done was an annual brake service to make sure the brakes stay clean and rust free, which is very important on all EVs because we don't really use the friction brakes.
Hi I just bought a 2020 Kia Niro EV and have been watching your videos on them, which has been very helpful. In one of your videos you showed your charging stations. I bought the GDC-LS30 and I was wondering if you were able to get the instructions on how to run it , I have not been able to find anything in English. Hope you can help me The company sure can't Thank you
What I also do not get... You can brake using the left steering wheel paddles. very handy. However, this does not work when cruise control is active. Why can't this just de-activate cruise control?
@@EV-olution Another one, however low on my personal WTF-meter :) The settings of the driver seat can only be adjusted while in P(ark). Wouldn't it make more sense that this would be possible while driving? I see why , because you only have to press the button briefly and the seat goes to the saved setting. That might be dangerous when driving. However, if you need to keep the button pushed in to keep the seat moving, that would be solved. That's how it works on for example a Skoda Superb :)
@@bvanderaerschot I was not with you until you explained about pressing and holding the button, that is an excellent solution because I agree that you should be able to set, or change the seat memory when not in Park. I had simply not thought of the solution you propose. Nice one 😎
6:00 The main reason for me not to aspire any Tesla is the button absence hell. I love the fact Kia has buttons for every day stuff, where they take into consideration the amount of people with their quirks and customs, combined with the ease of use resulting in a safe use of that death trap called car, I would reverse the observation as buttons yes, why these? There must be some MoSCoW list of requirements, assumed or verified, which made it into this car. Bottom line: love the car, love your approach and thoroughness in how you address your daily encounters and solutions for the under par experiences but totally disagree with this one particular observation... My previous car, a hybrid, was a driving christmas tree as well, and I even found it comforting. Even though sometimes it felt like a high octane funfair, I still prefer the ADHD solution to the ultimate zen kill me now approach Tesla has laid the groundwork for. Why? Always buttons! absence of buttons is like the open plan office; it needs an eye watering sales pitch to sell you lemons, chalk for cheese, a pig in a poke, pulling the wool over your eyes... (that's it I think; couldn't find any other than the obvious but rude moo stool expressions) It just saves on production costs, nothing else. And we all have to think this the next best thing after the Mohawk or whatever the fashion is. I know I sound like a grumpy old man, but the fact Musk is a genius, doesn't mean he isn't also a bit of an idiot savant and a technocrat. Not really the guy to discuss ergonomics with: windowless vacuum tube to be hurled around as a human cash dispenser blowpipe Guinea pig anyone? Less is not More if you don't know what it is what there should be less of... Less clutter, maybe. Less safe? No thanks. PS the Fiero project is excellent indeed! Great to see this reference here and to see how small this YT world actually is, almost like in the real world ;-)
I understand what you mean and that is why I would really like an in-between car. The Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 have me hopeful that there will be a balance between too many and not enough buttons.
@@EV-olution I get that. Not sure if the EV6 has the solution for your button fatigue, although I'm very curious as to how well that solution works: software root change with a knob by wire to physically interact with the chosen functionality could be the perfect solution or the perfect intention leading to hell. Looking forward to your review!
I agree with you, the charge port in my opinion should be at the rear same as a Tesla, main reasons freezing although for us in the U.K. it’s not so bad.. The other reason is it’s daft to reverse out of ones drive onto a main road. As for the battery it’s been a bone of contention with drivers over here. If you’ve fitted an AGM battery it should be charged in a similar way to a gel battery and not a lead acid. AGMs are no better than a good quality led acid so why pay the extra. I had two AGMs on my RV and the lasted just 18 months before failing. I replace them with AGMs and they failed again so then bought two good lead acid Leisure batteries that have now lasted four years. Now it may be the chargers on the RV were at fault but when I fitted the lead acid batteries I changed the charge regime to led acid, something I could do on our RV. The point is I doubt that’s the case with your Nero. I’ve now got the 2021 edition of the E Niro 4+ U.K. spec so it will be interesting to see how it performs. I did have the Kona Electric for 20 months without a battery problem, however I’m led to believe that Hyundai have a software update that resolves the problem so maybe Kia will follow suit. It seems that when the car is park up the battery monitor that charges from the lithium pack only switches a certain number of times with the Hyundai update that’s been increased. See. th-cam.com/video/oZi5q20ND1Y/w-d-xo.html
I have exactly the same model as Andre and had not any battery problems. Now where I live on the west coast the climate is a lot milder then where he lives, so I tend to believe that could be a factor. I also have a dashcam, but mine is connected to the sigaret lighter socket, so the cam goes off power when the car is switched off.
Thanks for the information Colin. The AGM battery I bought is a deep cycle so I should be good for a long time, but I believe Peter is correct that cold is a big factor here. As you mentioned, there seems to be a software update in the 2020 and up of the Niro and it seems that some 2019 Niro EVs don't have the issue so I am guessing that my early production 2019 has older software and needs to be updated to resolve the 12V battery monitoring of the car. Thanks for taking the time give me the info 🙂
While de-icing my Kia Niro EV i scratched the cheap paint and the plastics. The hood does not heat, nor the charging port, so its a car that belong in a tempo or garage. I am thinking about installing some kind of heating aparatus under the hood. The cheap battery that comes with the Niro, may have to go, since it barely do the job. The 12v plug may be rated for 10A but using it fully would drain the battery too quickly. The battery saver/charger is chosen so it can't damage the battery, meaning its weak, and is barely able to guive about 5A for a small electric cooler.
Unfortunately all electric cars are the same when it comes to not making heat under the hood because there is no gas motor making lots of heat (energy loss). It is important to not press too hard when clearing the snow and ice from the bottom of the windshield because the plastic is only a finishing piece and not structural, like on all cars. I would solve the problem by parking in an underground parking while eating lunch, or shopping, and when I came back to my car it would be easy to remove what was left. Regarding the 12V battery, it is very important to leave the car in the On setting, or in Utility Mode, if you are going to use accessories or power outlets in the car for a prolonged period of time. The car only maintains the 12V battery with the DC-to-DC inverter if the car is on or in Utility Mode. The DC-to-DC inverter in an electric car is like the alternator in a gas car, if the car is not on then it cannot maintain the 12V battery. I hope this information helps.
JUST MY OPINION -list (the car is absolutely great so these are pretty small things): 1. No UVO in Finland in MY20. The possibility is lacking from the AVN-system of the car so it's not possible in the future either. It's only in MY21 and after. This is def the biggest con and was an unpleasant surprise after watching so many videos about it. 2. Auto hold off by default, as you mentioned. 3. Coldgating is pretty bad but for my driving it doesn't bother because I don't use rapid chargers. Practically the maximum charging is around 40 kW in the winter. 4. The car doesn't pre-heat when unplugged. 5. Auto-air-conditioning doesn't use the heat pump to heating. Wouldn't it be more efficient if it would use? I understand that in cold conditions (sub -10 °C) it's not enough but electric heating is used even in +10 °C. 6. Information about the consumption for all kilometers would be nice. At least I haven't found that after resetting the trip meter the first time. 7. The beeps. Ah, there are SO MANY beeps. It's like the Roadrunner. a) The worst is the continous beeping when you've opened the driver door before pressing OFF. It doesn't stop until the door is closed and it doesn't add any value. Why would I forget to shut the door before leaving the car? I'm still in it x) And also, the car doesn't tell me why it's beeping. I had to figure it out by myself. b) ON/OFF-song. I got tired of it from the first time and would like not to hear it ever again. c) Charging limit is lower than the percentage when unplugging the charger and starting to drive. The stupidest thing is that it even doesn't work. My limit is 80% and the car states 79% and it beeps. So practically it beeps every time my Niro has been plugged. I understand when the limit is set to 60 % but the car has 75%. And also, why does it bling after taking off (it should inform me when I'm shutting down)? d) Car is charging and every time I open any door. "Thanks for the info e-Niro, I just plugged the car in, I know it's charging!" I even know it just by looking at the charging light, I wouldn't need an additional sound. Maybe they want to inform with every human sense. Should I also need a touch sensor when I open the door? It would be fun if the door would vibrate to let me know that the car is charging. Or what if Niro would offer me a taste or a smell? :D There's almost as many beeps as there are buttons :P
Regarding the missing UVO, I thought that was only in the 2019 European versions! You may want to look at a solution called OVMS for the e-Niro: www.openvehicles.com/
@@EV-olution Yeah, thank you for the advice. I've been thinking about OVMS but even that can't pre-heat the cabin without the cable plugged in which would be my most wanted feature.
I love physical buttons especially critical items like heating and fan three days ago with the screen misting up very quickly due to atmospheric issues being able to turn on the AC with a simple press averted a serious accident plus how often do buttons on 30 plus year old vehicles stop working I'm about your age 56 and love new technology but having everything on a touchscreen is madness and will cost lives. Cheers
I agree 100%, I love physical buttons as well, especially for daily use features. Like I mention in this video, I prefer buttons, but there can be a balance between none, like in a Tesla, and too many, like in the Niro EV. The nice thing is that my new EV6 has that nice middle ground that I was looking for. Thanks for watching this older video, I had sort of forgotten about it and it reminds me that I have to make one about my EV6 😎
@@EV-olution On a side note the led reversing bulbs you fitted and I subsequently obtained from the US arrived and I have installed them a few months ago are even more amazing now our nights are drawing in. I'm still debating whether I will restart my channel (previously on the 2018 leaf) with the niro as it's been superceded by the Mk2 although I could still feature long term issues , SOH etc. Mine has covered 21k miles in 4 months and now is at 30095 miles the SOH is still at 100%. Cheers mate
@@FancyaBevMate I am glad you like the LED bulbs; they were a bit expensive but the lighting is amazing. Regarding your channel, there will always be room for more EV content, including for older models. The important thing is that you do it because you like and enjoy doing it 😎
I sent a comment to Kia about making the Auto Hold a preference and also having it for forward direction only. I much prefer to have the car creep in reverse and not have to step on the accelerator to get it to move. My understanding is that there is some government requirement in the U.S. that prevents retention of the Auto Hold function but have no confirmation of that.
Folks, I would really like to you to get it touch with Kia about the thinks you don't like or you think can be improved. I have had a similar list of things I do not like, mainly about the UVO app, and I send that list to the developer contact you can find at the UVO app in the google play store. I was very surprised that they actually replied very friendly within less than a day, asking for clarification of some of the points I mentioned. I really do have the impression that they care and that they take your feedback seriously.
My peeves: I can't program the back doors to unlock when I stop the car or put it in park. As a parent. The first thing I do when I leave my driver seat is to go to the back seat for the kid, and it is always locked until I hit a fob button or an armrest unlock. Second is I can't figure out what the P-Release button does. It doesn't help release the parking brake or get it out of Park.
Actually you can set the unlock to either be at Park, or power off. I set mine to power off for safety reasons. I don't want the car to unlock the doors every time I put it in park because I may not be getting out of the car and depending on the area I don't want my doors unlocked.
I would also like to add regen level memory between drive modes. Just let me set it and forget it. I don't want to have to put it on max every time. But I still love the car
You can change settings, but you can't set it to 0. Its this way so a stranger can drive your car as if it were gas powered. Its also because its safer to have the car eventually come to a halt by itself. I personally deactivate it in long travels or use the cruse control.
Like many I ‘hate’ it too that auto hold can’t be persisted. But I think it is done for safety liability reasons. I can’t come up with the use case, but for car manufacturers being sued for failing to protect against improper use causing damage is a very costly thing. Over time it becomes a habit: power car on, push auto hold button, put in Drive and off you go!
I agree, but there should be an option to allow the user to make it persistent. If Kia thought it was a good idea to put an option to turn off the 12V battery maintenance mode, which will kill your 12V battery in a short period of time if turned off, then they could have put an option to allow the user to make it persistent. Sometimes I wonder what the engineers were thinking 😎
Just to be different... 1. Why are the seat memory buttons not linked to a user profile? I can get in the car, press the button for my seat position, but still find I'm driving with my wife's profile. And if we're not limited to 2 profiles, why limit to 2 seat memory positions? My 1999 Rover had three, and that's quite antique now. 2. Why is there no remote control function (such as holding the lock button for a few seconds to global close all the windows? My 4-year old loves opening his window, and we often don't discover it until leaving the car. So we have to open the driver's door, turn the power on, shut the window, turn off the power (we've forgotten that one before), shut the door and press lock, Many other cars (e.g. Fords) have this feature, and it can be very handy. 3. You can't keep the manual in the glove box! Well, not usefully! Couldn't we have managed a larger glove compartment? 4. Cam-wipe isn't standard :)
@John Smith I agree about the remote window control, that should be standard on all cars. Since I don't have a 2020 I don't get user profiles so the 2 seat memory buttons are good for me, but I get what you mean about them not being linked to the profiles. That should be a default thing. If there are more than 3 user profiles then I would program it to just not have seat memory for them, or add a 3rd button 🙂. The glove box is small, mine is full because I leave the manuals in it, but I should take them out for space since I never use the manuals anyhow 😎.
I agree with you first issue. I HATE fingerprints. One thing that irritates me about mine, (2019 EX Premium) is that I have to be physically connected to use Android Auto. Why do I have a wireless charger if I never get to use it? It's just dumb. When I emailed Kia and asked them, they said it was because they don't want to encourage phone use while driving. 😣 What a stupid answer. Sure... I can use my phone while it's in that little charging compartment. 🙄
I spoke to Kia about that - Wireless AA requires additional hardware behind the screen (wifi) which we don't have. They confirmed that they already have this in development though, so I'd expect it in the 2022 models.
Hi Derek. John is correct, the head unit needs to offer WiFi for wireless Android Auto and there are very few manufacturers of cars that offer it at this time. I am guessing that the new generation of EV, like the Ioniq 5 and Kia EV5, will have it. I hope it does. As for the answer Kia gave you... you should call back and speak to a manager about the stupid response you got. That person needs to be educated about how it all works, in all cars.
@@roundel52 I just purchased a 2022 Ex Premium - the AA feature STILL needs a cord to work. The dealer said it works "better this way - wireless had connection issues. Problem for me is that my phone (Galaxy S21) will not fit in the wireless charging area WITH a USB cord plugged into it. I can't use the wireless charging if I want to use AA. Yes, the phone will charge through the cord, but it doesn't fit on the wireless shelf so I'm forced to place it elsewhere. I guess they only imagined smaller phones to use BOTH AA and wireless charging at the same time.
That is why I use the pass-through for the cable and put my phone in the storage area where the cup holders are, in the center console. Big phone needs big storage 😎
I love my KIA e NIRO. Yes. There are things I dont like. But show me a car that does not have anything to "complain". The car was my choice. I would do it again. (NO, NO! I talk about the car) hehe
@ev-connection I have never been inside a kia but I still loved this video!!! I love the clips at the end, you should mention them up front after a mention to like and subscribe.;-)
Nope, I hate it. I back into every parking spot, except charging spots and it really bothers me. If hte port was on the back I would be very happy. The new EV5 has it on the back 🙂
There are days I wish Apple would make the OS and the typical car apps for the car manufacturers, so we get a proper user experience. Anyway, we have CarPlay. Which bring me to my biggest annoyance, the car unit is not always in a great state to get CarPlay going. On those occasions, the iPhone doesn't get anything from the car unit, not even power. The car unit (Android based?) often turns completely off when the car is switched off, which I can tell as it needs to do a cold boot after the car is started. Not all the time, most times it is instantly on, clearly coming out of a sleep state. But I haven't figured out the timing to connect the cable. It happens at least once a week (and by Murphy's law always when I need the CarPlay navigation most and I am in a hurry) that CarPlay simply doesn't work. Rebooting the iPhone doesn't remedy, I really have to turn off the car, leave the car, lock, wait quite a while before the software sort of resets and is able to do its CarPlay function again. Anyone else having the same issues?
@@EV-olution I updated last autumn after the new version came out that you showed in one of your videos and was available for download. However I had the problem with the previous version as well. Maybe my unit is not stable? You never observe a cold boot?
Your dealer refused to replace the battery? Looking at the warranty it looks like you'd only get 50% coverage so I see why you'd buy a different battery. I've replaced 3 batteries in a 2012 lincoln MKZ hybrid. The first 2 were covered but they pro-rated me this last time. A small battery for $200🔥🔥. The batteries would go stone dead. No lights at all.
The dealer did not refuse to replace the 12V battery, they tested it and told me that the warranty was a prorata amount so I told them forget it and I went and bought a real battery. The new one has a 100% 5 year warranty 🙂
Never been blinded really. I just hate 1) the interval wipers random action 2) the random lane assist behavior. Love the buttons. Agree on the auto hold. Also: wtf the welcome sounds?
Physical buttons are actually desirable in the age of touch screen madness.
I agree, but like I mentioned in my video, there can be a compromise between 1000 buttons and 0 buttons. The Ioniq 5 looks like they understood what I mean and has a very interesting interior. I am really looking forward to seeing it.
Not button crazy, it’s button paradise! 😅
LoL 😂. When I recorded that segment I used 3 or 4 different words to describe it, you get to see an alternate version in the bloopers at the end 🙂
I really like the charge port in the front.
I also like the buttons on the car. I’d much rather use physical buttons than touching on the touch screen.
It is a personal preference thing, for sure. For me I wish there was a middle ground between 1000 butons and 0 buttons. 😎
Thank you very much, I really appreciate it. You are going to love your e-Niro 🙂
First of all thank you for the next great video!
A few things I would like to add/comment on (and yes I love my e-Niro MY20):
1.) Nose charging in my opinion is great (even my father as a tesla driver tells me he would love to have this). Yes it's messy in snow and mud BUT it's so much easier to reach short cable charger in public
2.) Autohold is sth. I never understood why it's always off - with other cars it's the other way round. Same for the cruise control
3.) The most annoying thing for me is the peeping. It's to loud, it's toooooo much - why do I need a chime whenever I push the start button, why is the reverse ping not coupled to the vess button?
4.) The front radar cover should be different. When I'm driving through snow mud or snowing weather the sensors comes clogged up in minutes with mud and all the assistance systems jump out the window
5.) Why is there no way to tell the car to preheat the battery? We have free fastchargers but with a cold battery the Niro will only charge with 22kW instead of the 50kW, especially in winter when the car needs more power it would be great to pump in the energy faster and end up with a full battery after the trip to the supermarket.
6.) First I thought the buttons weren't necessary but after a while they grew on me and now I wish I had two or three more I could program like the star.
But to make it clear this car is great. The moment you realize the only problems you have to complain about are this minor it should dawn to everybody how great the car is.
Thank you very much, and the radar is one I forgot. Kia should have put a heating element in it. Thanks for all of the information 🙂
I very much prefer having buttons so that's a good reason to buy a Kia EV for me
Really appreciate the amount of effort you put into each video, keep up the good work! 👍🏽
Thank you very much, I appreciate you taking the time to watch 🙂
It is always nice to see an owner’s perspective, rather than a dealer! What is my mileage experience? Does winter driving effect it? Maybe a video on how to prep and operate in cold climates like QC?
I actually made a video about EVs in the winter (link below), but generally speaking I get about 300km in the winter and 400km in the summer. To learn more about EVs in the winter here is the video I made: th-cam.com/video/fepat58rgIQ/w-d-xo.html
Been waiting for this video :) Firstly I want to comment MY opinion about the things you listed:
Good, I guess :)
Thanks for the great video and your bloopers makes me always laugh :))
I completely agree and that's pretty much what I say in my video. There should be a compromise between what Tesla does and what Kia does.
Just to reassure you, no water gets into the port, even in very heavy rain.
I haven't had an issue with most of the things you mentioned.
- Gloss Black: hasn't bothered me at all
- Charge port: I love it being in the front.
@@EV-olution I'm watching your video on EV-specific tires then realized, I have to stop watching videos and work haha.
@@carloscanizares101 🤣😂, no problem. You can enjoy them after work 😎
I agree with all your points (except that personally I didn't have any problems with the 12V battery 🤞) and I think you could have add few more as why it is not possible to manually activate the battery heating system in advance for fast charging?
Thanks for your good video!
The battery preheat is a good one. I forgot about that. I find that the Niro EV has crap battery conditioning in the winter.
Great video Andre, definitely agree on the Autohold function.
Thank you very much 🙂
So bizarre.
Thank you very much 🙂. I turned off the exit feature for the seat so I haven't experienced that.
Thank you very much, and I agree.
Another great video. Haven't taken delivery of my new-to-me 2020 Niro EV SX Touring, but already gobbling up all the info I can find, and your channel is right up there. Thank you!
And good to see that you've figured out how to clone yourself. Some days when my to-do list seems especially long, I wish I could do the same... lol
Thank you very much. The lane assist feature should always be on and not turn off. You should have it looked at by the dealer.
I actually prefer buttons over having to do many actions on a touch screen. Also, auto hold is the default on my 2022 Niro EV.
Thank you very much 🙂
Yep, rather annoying. Hopefully Kia and Hyundai have corrected this in the EV6 and Ioniq 5.
@Gilles G13, merci beaucoup, j'apprécie 🙂.
This is a great topic and I wanted to comment on a few:
Those bloopers at the end. They are delirious!
I did a vinyl wrap on the silver I can agree with this lol
As a Kia Soul EV owner, your list of things you hate is 100% correct! Great content BTW.
Thank you very much.
Great video, as usual, André. I really appreciate the effort and the "touch of humor" you put into each video. Thank you. I also have a Niro EV 21 but is standing in garage because of the lockdown 😂 just drove 50 kms. Cheers from Portugal
Thank you very much 😎. I hope you get to drive your e-Niro more, very soon.
I hope you have subscribed 😎
I have heard of other 2020 e-Niro owners mention the front parking sensor behavior you wrote about and interestingly my 2019 always has them on at low speeds, I do not have to press anything.
Really? I would have thought it'd be a free 12v battery replacement if you're within warranty year (eg, 6 years?)... hmm...
@@be236 I have had my car for over 20 months now and they told me prorata.
For the navigation, I agree. I just downloaded the latest version and will install it tomorrow 😎
I have some annoyances too. E.g., the charging door is cheap feeling plastic and I expect it won’t last all that long. but, I also love my Niro. :)
Funny you mention that. I believe I mentioned it in a very early video.
5:48 have seen the centre console on the hyundai Santa fe? Especially the top trims
No, but I am not surprised because Hyundai and Kia are closely related.
Really like your video and humoristic tone here. Great work André!
Merci Jean-Pierre, j'apprécie beaucoup 😎
What battery did you get? This is an upgrade I would like to make.
I went to Battery Experts and got a Bolt-47 AGM. It was about 300$ installed.
Great intro and brilliant as always useful video.
Thank you very much 😎. I am glad you liked it. It was fun to make.
this is just MY opinion: More buttons = more better. You almost lost me with this one, but I want to learn more about Niro EV so I'm soldiering on.
It really is a personal preference thing. It's OK to not agree, I still like you 😎
shiny black trim ("piano black")= shows scratches and smudges. i prefer satin/matte/brushed.
great observations. you would think manufacturers would accept feedback from users and improve their product incrementally over the years.
Interestingly the new EV9 has no gloss black trim inside, and Kia made a point of stating it :-)
Thanks for the nice video, I agree with everything even if I have a hybrid.Veramente I am very bothered by the dashboard, they could do it black with silver reflections that would have mitigated the dust.
Thanks for watching 🙂. I would prefer carbon fiber finish for my car.
Hello, it´s possible to change the rear camera for a better resolution? Thanks. José from Portugal
No, but if you upgrade your reverse light bulbs like in the video I made about the subject, the reverse camera resolution is fine in darker light.
Absolutely brilliant, André!
Thank you very much 🙂
I love the buttons!!
The screen should not go black often. It never happened to mine in 3 years. You should bring it into the dealer for verification.
I would not want touch sensitive buttons at all, they are pretty crappy, like in the Chevy Bolt and Spark EV. I want real buttons, just not 73 😎.
I am glad you liked it 😎. Thanks for watching.
So, you hate the car!? Just kidding, I watched the whole video, great content as always :)
I almost fell for that one after reading your question and not the rest 😂😂😂. Thank you very much 🙂
I can't figure out why the Chargeports don't open by lifting "UP" giving some shelter from the elements in our client.
Exactly. Nissan LEAF has the charging cover lift UP, so much easier to open. I really liked it when I had my LEAF before upgrading to Kia Niro EV.
In winter the charge port being up and over the pistol could offer some protection, but if the cover lifted up it would block the view of the port when plugging in, making it more difficult. If they made it open far up to not obstruct the view then it would offer no more protection than opening sideways 🙂
@@EV-olution Nissan LEAF charge door swinging up doesnt block my view to plug in... I can see directly down into the port while standing... no issues.
@@be236 that proves my point, it leaves the entire port unprotected so opening upwards offers no advantage over opening sideways 😎
You can get a port cover for the Soul EV, from Eco-Dome. I got one for my wife's 2019 Soul EV.
Thanks!
Je suis 100 % d'accord pour les fenêtres et le smart cruise control.
Isn't the 12v battery covered by manufacture warranty? Isn't it like 5 years?
It's a prorata warranty and I didn't want to spend money on another crap Kia 12V 😎
There's shiny dash-trim in the Bolt too... :-(
Yes, and it makes no sense that manufacturers still do this. My Kia EV6 has it all over the place, both inside and out.
Im glad I live in california.. no snow here 👍😉
I would love the sun and heat (only up to 30C for me though), but I don't know if I could take the earthquakes...
Perfect for my Niro, I don't lose much range.
but loads of forest fires!
@@mombasadele479 yea even with all those fires. The weather still here is still the best!!!!
Thing i hate is the maintenance schedule of 15.000km while EV's needs less maintenance.
I turned off the maintenance reminder in my car and had my first inspection done at 21,000km. All I had done was an annual brake service to make sure the brakes stay clean and rust free, which is very important on all EVs because we don't really use the friction brakes.
@@EV-olution It's a thing you can loose your 7 years warranty when you're no on time with maitenance in Europe. Maybe you have better terms there.
@@marcoversteeg2705 yes, things are different here. Thank you for the information.
Hope you can help me The company sure can't Thank you
Hi Mike, I am glad that my videos helped. I will see what I can do to help with the instructions. They should have them in English.
What I also do not get... You can brake using the left steering wheel paddles. very handy. However, this does not work when cruise control is active. Why can't this just de-activate cruise control?
That's a good one. It bothers me as well.
Nice one 😎
3:49 spot on. The silver strip had to be covered almost immediately in my 2022 Niro.
Ron Finger is also an excellent youtuber.
Unfortunately Kia repeated this issue in the EV6! I will be making a similar video for the EV6.
(that's it I think; couldn't find any other than the obvious but rude moo stool expressions)
It just saves on production costs, nothing else.
Best niro-ev channel!
Thank you very much, I really appreciate it.
I had to change my tyres within 2 years, Kia tyres are not made for NZ roads. We put a better tyre, which was a different size on and they look smart
I had the same issue and actually made a video last year that may interest you, about EV tires. th-cam.com/video/b0E38UnWq3I/w-d-xo.html
JUST MY OPINION -list (the car is absolutely great so these are pretty small things):
There's almost as many beeps as there are buttons :P
The important thing is that you do it because you like and enjoy doing it 😎
Massively agree with autohold why can't I select it to always be on.
Nice video about the Niro.
Thank you very much.
Thanks for the info.
@@EV-olution This doesn't unlock the back doors on mine.
@@trentwjohnson that is strange. Is yours a 2020?
@@EV-olution It's a 2019 US EX Premium.
Interesting, my 2019 unlocks all of the doors.
Some impressive video editing and acting skills lol
😂 thanks. I would not call that acting, but I did my best in the rush to get it done 😎. Thanks again.
Toujours aussi intéressant de vous écouter. Continuer votre bon travail!
Merci beaucoup 😎
I would also like to add regen level memory between drive modes. Just let me set it and forget it. I don't want to have to put it on max every time. But I still love the car
Actually you can set the regen level for each drive mode in the EV settings menu of the touchscreen.
I had 1and 2 in my BMW X1 and miss it somewhat. However my manual easily fits in the glove compartment and leaves room for other stuff.
Could you please tell me where the "glove compartment" is ? Just a vocabulary lack.
@Gilles G13, c'est le coffre à gants, sur le tableau de bord, devant le siège du passager avant 🙂
@@roundel52 Cool, thanks. They didn't bother to tell ME that. ;)
I agree. Like I said in my video, I love my car as well 😎
@ev-connection I have never been inside a kia but I still loved this video!!! I love the clips at the end, you should mention them up front after a mention to like and subscribe.;-)
Thank you very much. Because of your comment I will mention it in my next video 🙂
I thought it was just me that HATES the charger port being on the front 🙄🥸🥸🙄🧐🧐
That is very strange. Have you updated the navigation unit? I just downloaded the latest version last night.
@@EV-olution I updated last autumn after the new version came out that you showed in one of your videos and was available for download. However I had the problem with the previous version as well. Maybe my unit is not stable? You never observe a cold boot?
I just downloaded a new version, you may want to see if there is another for your car.
I can't agree more with the 'crappy 12v battery' comment. Still, I love my e-Niro though.
I have been told that there may be a software update to fix the battery saver mode of the 2019 Niro EV. I have to call my dealer to find out.
It would be nice to be able to turn off the welcome and goodbye sounds.
