    Hey all, this is the first time I'm trying out edited video essay style content on this channel. I figured this would be the perfect time since Scarlet/Violet just came out and it'll take a few days before I can get some competitive teams in game. I had a lot of fun making this so I really hope you enjoy!

    Enjoyed this video quite a bit. It's always interesting to hear the perspectives of the world's best players when it comes to competitive games, and this was a very well thought out and articulated dive into the competitive side of Pokemon's balance. I think Pokemon is a game that will always be at odds with itself, trying to balance the hardcore VGC side with the casual story playthroughs of younger players, but with the rising popularity of VGC events and VGC content creators maybe Game Freak/Nintendo will start to look more towards the former and consider some more substantial adjustments mid gen

    Very nice video going into how and why mechanics changes made to certain games -most certainly- are a result of trying to shake up the meta and making competitive more diverse when it comes to team building. Doing so help alleviate a centralization meta where " if I'm not using these pokemon with these moves, natures and spreads I'm playing at a disadvantage".
    Once again. Very nice video essay. I enjoy this type of content for its take on understanding competitive pokemon - if but on a surface level - and to know the history that left it's mark on future gens.

    Hi Aaron, I gotta say I LOVE video essays like these and I'm definitely looking forward to more!
    Since I've been watching quite some video essays lately, I do have some feedback to make them even better:
    Since you're making these video's to inform people who are not too familiar with the competitive aspect of Pokemon, it would be a great help to include the effects of the moves/abilities/etc. on screen when talking about them (eg. Talonflames Gale Wings at 5:00 : what does it so that makes it only usable on full health now and why does it matter? The description of the ability + maybe the moves Talonflames would run like Brave Bird and Flare Blitz would tell us everything).
    Also some more visual aid could be very nice, for example with Hidden Power at 10:00 : for the example with Kartana and Nihilego, show their typing and which type of HP they are scared of (fire or ground: 4x effective).
    These are all things that competitive players are familiar with, but are we the target audience for this video?
    That said, everything else is really well done!

    This was super interesting to watch! I was really into competing in doubles during the XY days. Life had me busier after ORAS released and I didn't have the time to build new teams and learn how the new megas changed the meta, but I look back on my brief time playing competitively in XY very fondly. It was insanely fun, but I don't think it's something I'll ever return to due to how much of a time sink it was for me and how busy I find myself these days. This video was a ton of fun to watch and gave me a good dose of nostalgia! Although, man, I forgot about Smeargle until you brought him up.......... Ahhhhhhh

    I like the idea of changing sleep to be 2-3 turns. That way players cannot play around the fact they know they will wake up turn 2 so there is some incomplete information, but if you don't get the turn 2 then you can play with perfect information knowing you wake up turn 3. This would make it possible for some big plays "risking" on turn 2, and still nerf it from a possible 5.

    • @Raven-2000
      @Raven-2000 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I thought it already maxes out at 3 turns?

    • @snuffysam
      @snuffysam ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Raven-2000 Yeah 3 is already the max. Changing the minimum would still help make the move balanced though - even though it’s a literal buff, the improvements to predictability would be preferred

    Love the video, would love to see more. The only bit of advice I’d like to give is to make a bit more eye contact. You’re very clearly reading from a script that’s below you, and it can be a little odd at times. Viewers would typically prefer it to feel like youre talking TO them, not necessarily AT them (even though that is the case). Obviously this is a very minor critique, but that’s just a testament to how well produced the video was. Keep it up!
