    I HAVE THE TIMING JOB FINISHED AND IT'S RUNNING GREAT NOW...
    I finished my timing job today (my 2010 F-150 runs fine now - logged 16+ miles so far) based on your video, it was very helpful... one thing to also note for those who may have issues putting the steering pump pulley back on. You may need to get a reemer to re-tap the shaft of the pump with 8mm x 1.25 thread. I practically ruined an installer bolt then had to re-tap and use the die on the kit to fix the threads. The issue: way too much rust in there, and it needed the threads to be fixed.
    Also, when replacing the oil pump with a Melling M360HV, the pan did not need to be dropped, but you'll need a Craftsman 8mm gear wrench and a thin wire to use as a keeper to prevent losing the bolt if it slips. This is a real pain in the ass, don't get me wrong. I was going to drop the pan a little, and the transmission lines are in the way, so I opted to use the wire approach.
    The crank bolt needed to be removed using a helper with a breaker bar I made from a pinion yoke tool to keep the harmonic balancer in place while I torqued it loose. The balancer did not have anything I could attach a tool to prevent it from turning with as much torque the bolt had on it.
    Every bit of the way, my truck was fighting me and trying to get junked.
    Both of my static guides - the black ones - were shattered, and one of the bolts that goes through the oil pump had broken in the block by about 1/2 inch. Had a steady hand to use a reverse / left handed drill bit to remove the broken piece. The VCT Solenoids were definitely suspect as part of my earlier issues - one screen was broken, too. The Phasers actually looked fine based on the trouble shooting tech info provided with the OEM phaser replacements. The roller followers all looked pretty good, but I replaced 6 of them (with the new design) per the phaser install. I was going to go back and replace 6 others but decided not to.
    After it was all done, I was going to replace the water pump and do a coolant flush. That thing was on there so tight and probably fused to the block so I just scrapped the idea and added new coolant.
    So, in all, it took me a while to get through all of this. My dad came and helped me two days for the oil pump and doing the chains. I spent some time using gasoline to clean up the baked on oil that was on the timing cover and valve covers. My last day, I just spent buttoning everything back up and running it through the tests. Make sure you have the air flow sensor re-attached and the whole air flow system hooked up when you start up. Everything else was hooked up properly, but sometimes you just miss a connection...

    Some comments that may help explain parts of this excellent video: Ford points out three specific valve rocker followers to remove on each side. Removing them takes the valve spring pressure off the cams, so they don't want to violently rotate when you remove the chains. If they do violently snap around, you can bend a valve, as the piston can strike one that's open.
    Some folks put a ViceGrip on each cam behind the phaser, holding them from spinning. Or you can have someone hold the cams while you do the work. Or you can do nothing and hope the cams don't spin, and if they do that they don't smash up a valve.
    It took me a while to understand this which is why I am writing it here. Thanks for taking the time to share this real-life experience video.

      @willhart7861 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've considered using vice grips as a precaution but I have no idea which direction they would need to be for each side.

      @@willhart7861 I finally did the job using Vice-Grips. With a little care you can figure out which way the cams want to turn and under how much pressure. It wan't a problem at all...

My truck blow out the # 6 spark plug I tried a Heli coil that lasted for a little time but that land up blowing out as well I got new head (well used ) I marked the timing chain and sprockets before I took them off and I put them back according to the marks. But now it want crank it acts as if it wants to try but it doesn’t I’ve changed the cam shaft sensor because it was broke. Put new plugs in. But still want crank. Could it b in the timing since I put new head on

      Your valve is pushed up against your piston, If it moved at all the valve inside the head has been unfortunately I’m very sorry to give me that news Daniel,
      On that particular engine you do not set the timing that way. Obviously after watching the video you were looking at there’s a very particular Way to set the timing. Unfortunately one of your heads have to come off again.

      I usually just Google it I don’t have any particular preference on the parts. I suppose you could get cloyes and that would be the best parts you could get unless you got OEM
      I will tell you that you’re better off just locking out the cam phasers and re-programming the ECM
      I’ve actually got a video that I’ve been trying to finish up for a couple of days that describes exactly why these break and why replacing them is not a good idea you’re better off locking them out and I honestly did not used to believe that but I do believe it now because I know exactly why it happens.

      Yes it does not make a difference where it’s at as long as the links are all lined up and it’s close.... I know it seems a little bit confusing and I was doing one last week and I was thinking about the same thing I went back and looked at my video and thought maybe I was wrong but then I realized it really didn’t matter as long as I was close. And that the links were lined up
      The links are the most important parts of this procedure

      Cool brother. I was doing the timing chain for a friend in need at my shop. I never take these jobs bcz of the time it takes to do them and how careful you need to be. I watched video and went back and did it but his was a mess, it had no timing chains and it was all waked out of place bcz he tried doing himself. Make long story short, I moved the cams to correct spot moved crank to 12 o'clock on the keyway put the chain marks where they go and everything fell into place perfect all points matched. I will start putting front of engine together tomorrow. I was just waiting for feed back on the keyway location. Thank you very much I was stressing bcz I had none of the special tools everyone talks about but after I saw your video I realized they were not needed. Thank you

      Keep in mind that if you moved the Cams. More than 15 to 20° you will more than likely bend the valves. That will certainly create problems...

    How do I know if its timed right? I moved the cam to where exactly you had your set up and the keyway at 12 o'clock. I put the black chain link on the dot of the sprocket that looked to be at about 7 o'clock on the crank. The 2 black links fell right on the L on left side and the same on the right side with the 2 black links falling exactly on the R at about one o'clock with the cam lobes pointing exactly to where your's were. After I had put everything together I turned the crank about 3 to 4 full turns and it turned pretty smooth by hand. And the chains are nice and tight. I didn't feel any interference when I turned crank by hand those 3 to 4 full turns. Anything you can throw in that I should look for. I'm doing this charity job for a friend that has fallen on hard times. His wife just died to covid and he lost his job I just felt bad and this is pretty much the help I can offer.

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will be time to write if all of the links lineup. Meaning the color codes on the bottom of the crank and the colors on the cam gears.
      The only problem would be that if you moved the cams Too much like I said before any more than 1520° could possibly bend valves I wouldn’t worry too much about it if it’s happened it’s already happened.
      I’m sure if you used your head you’ll be OK. Just put the front cover on hook as little bit up as possible. (just in case you have to take it apart)
      Doing this procedure and getting it right will give you a very good leg up on repairs in the future so no matter how long it takes you to get it right just remember that eventually you will get your money back because you will be more confident in your work and understand what you’re doing much better.

      Ok brother I pray all is well when I finish. His right side guides broke off and the chain must have jumped timing. It was running really rough and backfiring and no power. He took it apart and gave. Up And asked if I could help so I took it on. I hope it's ok. Thank you for your help I really appreciate you taking time to get back to me.

      Well if that’s the case he more than likely bent a valve prior do you even working on it. Like I said before even if you end up spending way more time on it than what you want I promise you it will come back to you 10 times if you pay attention to what you’re doing and learn not only how to do it but while you’re doing it the way you’re doing it.
      There was a small part in this video where I spoke about Cam followers. I explain that you do not have to remove them because we’re not moving the cams that much but if you had to move the cams further than the 15 to 20° that I spoke of then that’s where the problem will come from but even with that he had problems before you worked on it and could’ve possibly bent the valves before

      Well brother I almost forgot to let you know the outcome of this timing situation. The chain on diver side had jumped, all the guides were dry rotted and crumbled like cookies they were in the oil pan. I turned that cam on passenger side about 4 to 5 times full turns trying to get it to fall into the correct spot. well I finally realized I had to guide it to the right spot just how you had yours on video and stop at the right spot just before it spun over on its own. I finally got it just right, I did the same on other side then I used the color guide on the chains and put them just how you show on the video everything aligned perfectly the first try. I tightened the new guides the new tensioners and I just put everything back together. At the end of the build I stuck key in thee ignition and said here goes nothing. The engine spun a half turn and kicked on ran like new. I jumped in took it down the road for test drive and all is great. The owner just drove a 10hr drive and said it runs better than ever. Brother if it wasn't for your video I would have given up I wouldn't even have tried. All these other videos guys were using all these special tools and taking off all the rockers and lifters and all that crap. I just learned simple good concentration careful work and a good partner to share ideas even over my cell phone media goes a long way. Thank you for your help and taking the time to get back to me with ideas and encouraging words I would have never finished or started this job without your help. Thank you brother.

      Yep you can always start a vehicle without coolant inside it. Obviously you’re just wouldn’t run it very long and it was probably accidental that I had the map sensor unplugged

    Hello, we have changed oil pump, timing belt and can phaser on 2007 F150 5.4L. But for some reason, bank two is rough and make vibration, of I remove the phaser sensor then it runs smooth but make the check engine light to poped in. Can you please suggest what is the reason for it and what should I do ?

    I have one question did you drain the coolant?

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The coolant can stay in the radiator and most of the coolant can stay in the engine, especially if you’re not replacing the water pump so really all you have to do is remove the upper hose
      Really, though the answer to that question is in the video I would highly recommend watching each step of this video. I know I’m a little bit annoying but if I don’t put it in there, it isn’t needed to be done.

    Why should you hold the camshafts with vise grips ?

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You really shouldn’t. But some people don’t have access to the proper tools. And the area where I put them should not affect anything

      @@sharpcarco is it necessary to to use the vise grips , because i saw a video of replacing the timing chain , after he removed the tensioner the cam spinned , so im confused right now i dont know if they used the vise grips to prevent this from happening or what

      Thanks .

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well if you hold them with the vice grips you won’t have to worry about them moving you will know when you’re doing it which direction they will want to move in.
      You definitely do not want them to move if you do not remove the cam followers
      As you can tell in the video I did not remove mine........ If you turn the engine cam too much you will bend the valves that’s why we use the vice grips to just ensure that that does not happen
