Mephedrone (or as chemists call it, 4-methylmethcathinone) is a stimulant drug, first synthetised in 1929, but which did not become known to the wider public until it was rediscovered in 2003 by a man who calls himself Dr. Zee. Is he the “Crazy Chemist” depicted in government-led anti-drug campaigns, using young people as lab rats for testing his substances? Why is he experimenting with unknown substances? Was it his intention to sell these drugs to millions of young people? Does he feel guilty for the harms caused by mephedrone, the deaths, the suffering? The Drugreporter video team met him in New Zealand in March this year, and took the opportunity to carry out an exclusive interview with him and ask these questions. Our aim was neither to judge nor to justify him - just to show the man behind the discovery of mephedrone.

everyone is responsible for their own drug use - if i ever got addicted to anything, i would never blame the dealer, or the chemist. i'd blame myself.
The dealer takes partial responsibility by regularly selling the substance to you.

The chemicals are never to blame. It is the consumer who ultimately puts it into their body. Synthesizing new chemicals will never stop. How else would we cure disease and solve medical problems? There will always be drugs and people to use them. Harm reduction is more important than laws and abstinence!

Empathogens do induce pseudo-experiences, but long after the effects of the drug are gone, its essence, or "ghost" remains. I wouldn't recommend constant regular use as it burns out receptors and often leads to dependence, but it will definitely change how you view the world especially in how you relate to others with having more empathy for your fellow-man and softening those who are a bit rough around the edges. *Mephedrone IS the sex-scene*

exactly. but with bath salts what happens is MDPV and A PVP are extremely powerfull and have very low dosages around 30-40mg. thinking its mephedrone or a dud most likely did a very big line witch obviously causes losing control and going to psychosis. same with spice or other canabinoids. they on the other hand are harder to dose safely.

The philosophical issue underlying this on going debacle... is it morally justifiable to get high. If it is morally acceptable, then the regulations should concern safety issues and not moral issues. If they close down all the jobs people will kill themselves with anything they can lay their hands on Heroin, Mephedrone or Alcohol.

These research chemicals are dirty as all get out. I mean...I use to be a fan, so I understand the desire to explore them and the various recesses of the mind, but his modern quest for the proverbial "cure all" drug (heard about this in another interview with him) is unlikely at best. Using synthetic cathinone substances on and off can lead to an insane re-dosing habit/addiction that one will never be able to part company with. It's just way too easy to escape reality with psychoactives and never want to come back. It happened to me, and while everyone has their own unique brain chemistry, some things simply apply across the board, and the potential for addiction with these RCs is just as high as it is with classic licit and illicit narcotics. There's a great documentary out there on khat chewers in Eastern culture. It really highlights the downside to this approach. And as far as "people growing up and out of these phases" is concerned, an addict will NEVER simply "grow up or out of it". As an eleven-year addict in recovery, I can say with certainty that it takes a miracle to escape the throws of addiction.
With all this being said, simply banning substances will not save humanity from the hell of addiction. I don't care what the substance is...addiction is diabolical and is a highly complex form of mental illness that we will NEVER fully understand. That's what makes it so rough. I wouldn't wish addiction on the devil himself.

@@mRcordwilK well, 4mmc (mephedrone) has been illegal since around 2010 in the Netherlands. 3mmc will be illegal soon, but it isn't yet. You can order this online from many stores, but after a quick Google search turns out that 3mmc is already illegal in the UK. I've read on forums that 3mmc has a slightly less potent effect, but I've also read that a designer drug called 3,4-dmmc is a lot more like mephedrone. If you Google it, maybe you can find a website that sells it in the UK.
@@mRcordwilK I'd like to add, most of the websites you find for research chemicals look very sketchy. I ordered 2C-E from a Dutch vendor and had it delivered to a store with a pick-up area. Had a track and trace code and everything. Looked sketchy, but they delivered on time and the product was of high quality.

As far as im concerned like all chemists his logic makes sense. A good comparison is the common drug alchol most people who drink do not have a problem however there are a minority do have a problem you must ask is it the drug or the person. Plus getting a physical dependance on alchol is actually quite dangerous compared to the pshycological dependance of stimulants overall.

I realize a ton of individuals are unable to achieve any effects due to rapid degradation by monoamine oxidase B...but for some reason, I have always been able to achieve profoundly entactogenic and euphoric effects from PEA hcl. It is indescribably blissful for me, and clearly both dopaminergic and serotonergic in nature...also numbing and slightly dissociating.

@@selectivehear3020 I dont know how, I just know what happened to me after using synth "cannabis" after 5 years. I collapsed and was rushed to hospital where tests showed my blood was just short of complete depletion of magnesium, potassium and sodium, resulting in the spaticising of all my muscles including my heart. Drs put it down to chemicals in the mix but we never found out which one because the ingredients change all the time and I didn't have a sample for them to test.

I don't quite believe this person to be idealist, as many people, like me, suffered from psychosis, because these synthetic cannabinoids were sold as natural cannabis, or some "herbs to relax". People didn't know what they were consuming and even if they know the name of the substance a doctor should at least give them advise before consuming anything ..
