I've done both for years as well and what I learned was that for jazz playing it's fine but for lead,legit, or classical, you won't have enough finesse, and you can overwork the aperture. It's better in the long run to teach a young student to play as effortlessly as possible and once they are comfortable and really going then you can introduce more extended techniques for personal style. Otherwise it's difficult to unlearn habits.

Allright: one example. Let the boy holding the bell up while keeping his head in the same position will bring his lips in the ideal position. The result will be a better tone quality because teeth/lips by then are exactly at the same level towards each otherl. Or one can try to ride on a bike without wheels.
Most musicians don't know this kind of things or don't want to tell them to the world! It took me about 40 teachers to know how to play an instrument. And it's so easy ............... if you know what to do.

That is incorrect there are other ways to play trumpet using your tongue anchored to the bottom lip, the cutting edge of the bottom your teeth fills the whole cavity of your mouth, creating pressure increasing your tone, range, strength and endurance. Check out Jerome Callet he passed away 3, 4 years ago.
