If you’re an Army guy no...but if you’re a Marine, you’ll love this amp! 👍🏻😁👍🏻
Semper fi !
Lmao 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Semper Fi Teufel Hunden!
20 years ago I wired up a Sony XM-2020 small 2 channel amp on my ATV. It powered a couple of small outdoor speakers and for the signal source, I used a cordless XM radio receiver that had a headphone outlet. I sealed the amp up with silicon and never had a problem with it. That is with having my ATV completely submerged while running through a creek!!
It is nice to see manufacturers putting out more options for “marine” use electronics!! Especially with bigger options that put out good power too.
Im glad I got this for my wifes car. It's going to be pushing a Rockfard Fosgate P3D2-12 that's a spare from a previous build. Thank you for the dyno🤙🏼. You're the man!
Great video!
I saw this amp at droppinghz a few weeks ago for that price and I had to snag up a couple of them for testing porpoises! I’m keen on its size. Should be able to fit them under a seat easier once I get around to it!
Porpoises 😂😂😂😂
@@joshwilliams9248 they are marine amps…🐬🐬😆
Just got mine in, can’t wait to get it installed, picked up matching 4channel to put in the lightning.
When are you going to do the new JP amplifiers? I really want to see the JP93 on the dyno.
The 93 hasn’t arrived yet. I have a couple MiniMaxx amps coming up soon
One of the nice things about conformal coated amplifier boards is they are somewhat safe to mount to subwoofer boxes.
I’ve been researching for a few amps for my Canam defender and these amps have popped up on my radar. I also heard that D4S has marine series coming soon.
I would be very interested in seeing a Wet Sounds amp to see if they make their rated power. They’re obnoxiously expensive for average equipment that I question will make their rated power based on fusing.
Marine audio market is horrible for the most part. Over priced, under performing crap from JL and Wet Sounds dominates the market. All you hear on the lake and on the trails is 60hz and above from a bunch of HLCDs running off clipped signals. Good on Sundown though for keeping that price to performance ratio where it should be. Refreshing to see. Wish Taramps would get into the marine market.
Thanks for the suggestion 👌
Bravo on the lower voltage tests... Many people wait till last minute to upgrade their electrical system and run with voltage drops... I think with the lower voltage it gives noobs an idea of what they will really get.
Thanks so much big dog. I just orderded mune and was looking for teviews and information but nothing online just a a short thanks a million
Seems like a great value especially if it can run at a consistent at .8, .67, or .05 ohms. And for $150 Whoa!!!
400 dummy
Sundown has a 4 channel like that I have been eyeing. Would love to see it on the dyno sometime. I don't need a marine amp but these seem to go fairly cheap
I actually got the Rockford fosgate with the boosted rail technology on my boat. Lot of satellite speakers so I had to use a six-channel
I have 3 of the Sundown Powersports SAM amps on wifes side by side and they work great
Were gonna make it out the hood with this one bois!!! Finally, not another D4S amp... next thing you know, he'll be doing amp dynos for large jeff... but he prolly already has.
🤦♂️
@@wal 😶🌫️😶🌫️😶🌫️
Those power connectors remind me of my old Orion amp. It's been in a box for about 20 years, might have to see if she still powers up.
Reminds me of the Old PPI Amps that stupid metal tab on the Wire input Always broke off If I didn't break it on Purpose.
My son bought this amp and paired it with a stereo integrity 12 and a d4s box..... sounds comparable to a w7
Thanks
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Im also into boating but never installed an amp or soundsystem in it. I prefer the sound of my oldschool 2 stroke V6 flying with 66mph over the sea with a small 20ft 😎😃 But very nice that there a nice marine amps out there if I change my mind one day 👍 I never wanted to put my oldschool Rockfords into the boat because of aggressive salt water environment 👍
Another great test!! Thanks!!
Hey D, I may be wrong but I dont believe I've seen you amp dyno any Memphis amps. Is that something you could do?
I'm running a Memphis PRXA 1000.1 monoblock on 2 kicker CVX 12" dual 4 ohm DVC subs wired to 2 ohms each. Then bridged down to a 1 ohm load on the amp. Thing barely gets warm.
I'm very happy with it. I'd just like to see a memphis amp on the dyno.
I had one and sent it back cause the remote sucks, but built like a tank, nice video. Been waiting on a dyno of this amp.
Seems like a larger knob would help out tremendously
@@wal Mine only worked from about middle and up,nothing on the bottom, strange. The ppi power class you revued has 40 detents! I love it.
Not making a comment, but do have a question!
Just purchased a dodge charger and it only has the base entry radio, and if this was your ride(weekend warrior) what amp(s), and speakers would you install and what configuration?
Your options matter!
That's good amp if your hoopie gots a leak in the trunk. 🤣
Note the low signal to noise ratio...
Just the amp I need I love my jp8 but don’t want to use it for my car that is at risk of theft
Crutchfield has (I haven't checked for a few days) the 15" Kicker L7s (1,000RMS) on sale for $264... maybe a perfect match w/ this amp for @$450 incl. sales tax!
Awesome I'll check those out. Thanks for watching and commenting
Do recreational boats work the same way as cars regarding the sound system? Would it be advisable bumpin subs on an amp like this all day fishing? It wont leave me dead in the water come time to fire the boat back up to go home?
@2:29 - It kind of looks like those plastic blocks are glass-fiber reinforced poly-carbonate material. That probably way stronger than a standard chinesium plastic block.
Yes, they feel good. Just a bit difficult to get wires with ferrules to stay in as they tend to push out the wire when you tighten the terminals
I’m curious about the mini budget amps on amazon. I would like to find a solid 4 channel. Also, the marine amps are probably not jacked up because power sports charging systems are considerably smaller than automotive systems.
I’m testing an inexpensive 4ch amp now, stay tuned
@@wal perfect, hot out here in NC ain’t it? Stupid hot in Garner yesterday.
hey man i realy emjoy your videos, do you think you could review the rockville rxh f5?
Thanks for the suggestion 👌
For 150 on Amazon that's a steal that price may not last long though sorry to say
The closeups didn't really show it or my eyes are that bad, I can't tell how much of the board is conformal coated. If you shine a uv light on the board, that will show how much of the board has been coated and protected from moisture. Otherwise, great vid as usual!
the knobs gotta be vibration proof for sport use.....
It don’t matter if you can’t turn da sucka
@@wal I suppose. Once set, ya don't need to move it around doh. Not in those applications. I guess some jockey things around constantly.
Love the videos
2 8's or 10's in one of them inclosed side byside's would bump bump
I want to build something
While power ratings are important, I would love to see a comparison of bass amp damping ratings.
I would suggest watching Joe Hobart on the KICKER channel as he describes why the damping measurement is useless. Too many different methods and it's much ado about marketing when it's highlighted
@@wal When I have compared digital to class A/B amps, the difference in bass quality is noticeable. I have yet to hear a Digital bass amp that sounds better than an A/B. I have been doing this since the 90s, and owned some of the first Digital amps to hit the scene. The power is always there, but just doesn't sound as good. The cleanest bass has always come form high damping rated ones. Like the Zapco AG750, old school us amps, and now the Mosconi Zero 1. Back to back testing shows a clear audible difference in between the best Digital, vs the best A/B. was even obvious to non audiophile types. I swear these manufacturers would rather sell cheaper digital hardware, that consumes less power over inefficient A/B stuff. Just like we have standardized testing for power, maby we a properly standardized metric for damping.
@@bundles1978class D doesn't stand for digital fyi
@@bundles1978 Class D isn't digital, but I know what you mean. There is some audible difference but there has not been a measurement I've seen to detect this difference in A/B and D
@3:32 - Show me the rubber o-ring on the bottom of that cover or this amp failed at the design stage - especially if the amp is mounted with the connectors face down. Even a rubber coating on the bottom of the plate would be decent.
The amp doesn't mention an IP rating, and it's not really sealed. I agree adding some ingress blocking would be a good idea
Think the remote being hard to turn may be intentional due to it being made for marine application. Picture your hand on the remote and the boat drops off a high wave!
Could be but it needs a larger knob to assist in the turning...in my opinion
No. Because I have the sundown saz 1500 special edition and it has that exact same bass knob, and this amp is not marine rated amplifier. It's weird because it's so small but, it is what it is.
Nice $
Looks like a Sony Xplode from the late 90's or early 00's.
I am just not a sundown fan , but that is a nice looking amp
I don’t understand the logic behind hooking an amp to a woofer not in a box to see it’s flex. Pretty much any woofer will flex way more out of a box. In “MY” experience all it’s doing is taking a way bigger chance of destroying a woofer !!!! Someone please explain this to me. Is it just a useless demonstration????????
Love the channel and the please keep up the good work!!!!!!
Demonstrating bass is difficult in a video. Showing a subwoofer flex is more visually appealing
It's not clickbait if you watch to the end...😉🙃😇
You said it!
I bet it gets hott😂
👍👍
Some of the tests you should have deemed it a fail. Not CLOSE ENOUGH. Stick to your guns and hold manufactures to a "HIGHER Standard"
When it’s literally within 1%, that’s acceptable in my book. Now, should it have been rated 400/700/1000? Probably
@@wal Good point... not many companies miss the mark these days... I guess we are spoiled, and use to Under RATED SPECS! Lucky us! Hey maybe a Video on the most under rated amps you've tested? Thanks again for all you do! Bring back the CHEATERS! (Amps) those are my favorite.
Where is the beef?
Deaf bonce atom 9.5k??
Thanks for the suggestion 👌
@@wal you’re awesome!
I installed one of these in a house boat. I wasn't super impressed with it.
makes me sick to think about what we paid for amps all those years ago!
if its not much to ask .....plz big d I humbly ask 4 an amp even if its an old one ........plz😂😂🙏🙏
Links are in the description
same knob as my 15th anniversary edition's, not a big fan of it at all.
As a Sundown I am dissapointed.
Gotta get me one of these 乁[ᓀ˵▾˵ᓂ]ㄏ
This sundown amp is a let down its not that great it sucks to say cause I like sundown.
10:35 that app looks anorexic 😆
Doesn't have a good sound though.
operating a woofer that's not in a box is terrible for the woofer
Not recommended other than just showing off for a video, I'd agree. It's difficult to "show" the bass portion without some flex
