@@joynedyalkova2322 Hi Joy. I'm a 62 year male and I am following the Carnivore way of eating, virtually zero carbs. I workout in my home 3 times a week doing pushups, and the following exercises using dumbbells: biceps curls, triceps presses, shoulder lateral raises. I log every workout in a spreadsheet so that I can track my progress. I am definitely getting stronger because I can see the progression in the number of reps and the resistance weight. Also, I basically only eat one meal a day, in the middle of the day. My meal consists of beef, fish, eggs, oysters. So, I am living proof that you can build muscle and strength while still losing fat.

My personal approach... I do not track macros. Only carbs. Some people call it "lazy keto," but I am not doing it out of laziness. If this is a long term / forever diet then I have to be able to rely on my instincts. That means no counting anything but carbs. Plus, like you said the fat "allowance" is really the ceiling. And for many people even the protein allowance is the ceiling.
When I am my best self I am eating whole foods and making my own foods and it is easy to keep carbs very low. I do have a weakness when it comes to keto sweet treats. Even though they don't have sugar, they do trigger me and I have had a couple keto binges. I am currently pretty good at avoiding foods that trigger me, but that possibility is probably going to be there forever.
When I am being my best self I feel healthier than I ever remember feeling. I am still losing weight (more slowly now) and am close enough to my goal that I am not obsessed with the weight.
When I am not being my best self I feel a bit more mediocre I stall on weight loss.
Surely there is a lesson in there for me
I also count net carbs when eating whole food. the problem people have with net carbs comes when they eat a keto candy bar that has 22 g carbs and 20 g of added fiber and they think they are eating 2 net carbs. That is a bit of food label trickery. I saw something once that had over 40g of total carbs but 2 net. That was because of allulous... which I do understand. But it concerns me.

    • @drekberg
      @drekberg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Thank you Olivia. That's going to work great for most people. Very few people would ever need to count protein. It usually takes care of itself when you limit carbs and eat real food.😄

I’m doing net carbs as I need a lifestyle that I can follow for the rest of my life. I’ve done enough very strict short term diet fixes that didn’t fix anything long term. I love veggies and don’t think I could limit them to the extent that say 20g total carbs would require. I know carnivores can be healthy but I don’t want to just eat fatty meat. I still want to enjoy my food and not look at food just as something I have to do to make my body survive

    Hello doctor...
    I do OMAD
I eat 800g of leafy green everyday (big bawl where I mix all together add salt, garlic, apple cider vinegar and olive oil... i also add spices (ginger, cumin, pepper, curcuma...) to extract flavours ^^) then I have my protein(it could be: sardine or other type if fish, beef, chicken, liver..)
Right After that I have my desert:in a plate I put nuts in a side, tbs of peanut butter, mixture of seeds(chia, sesame, flax),I also love Camembert, goat cheese, some pumpkin seeds....
When I count the net carbs I find it around 25 to 32g ...it depends because sometimes I add some blackberries or tomato or leek onion to my salad..
When I don't eat leafy greens I substitute it with cauliflower and broccoli ( steamed then sauté with butter, add parsley eggs garlic..so tasty)
The problem is I want to cut even more my carbs but I don't want to have deficiencies in nutriments like potassium or calcium ....I could do less of leafy green but I don't want to be deficient in potassium and other minerals ....
    What do you think?
Thank you so much doctor.... You are my hero!

Hello Dr. Sten Ekberg, I am a 5'4" female who weighed 138 lbs all of summer 2020 despite running for 1 hour everyday. Only after watching your videos and following 2 mad and omad I have been able to lower it down to 133 lbs and have been able to maintain it for a month now. So very thankful to you. My struggle is that I am a vegetarian who eats dairy but no meat and no eggs, what is the best way to stay satiated without having carbs? I have no sugar cravings and no carb cravings, but don't know how to feel satiated just by having veggies and dairy.

Less insulin is still better even when you have to administer it from the outside.😄

@@patrickh709 - Dr. Ekberg has always been a proponent of Fasting to lose weight. th-cam.com/video/fZhkFOCeZMQ/w-d-xo.html is just one example.
A Ketogenic Diet and Intermittent Fasting go together. Most of the Benefits of a Ketogenic Diet, whether it be an Omnivore, Carnivore, or Vegan version, are actually Realized by NOT Eating. By limiting the spikes of Blood Sugar and Insulin when Eating, a Ketogenic Diet makes your FASTING more effective.
The Ketogenic Diet allows you to Fast longer. It not only reduces Insulin Resistance, it also reduces Leptin Resistance. Leptin is the Hormone that controls Satiety, the feeling of Fullness. Obese people have high Insulin Resistance AND high Leptin Resistance. As a result, they ALWAYS feel Hungry. As Leptin Resistance is reduced, you can Fast longer, before you feel Hungry again.

Like flax seed, hemp seed is a great thing to eat as well. If you eat flax seed, make sure to grind them first into a powder. And do not store that flax-seed powder, as it can go off very quickly (within hours). Hemp Seed does have a great Omega 3-6-9 balance.

Considering our current coronavirus and long haul symptoms that seem to be autonomic nervous system related (POTS type) and your comment about the majority of our immune system coming from the gut, I was wondering if you could do a video on how to maximize our ANS function. I wonder if that would be helpful in decreasing some of the long haul symptoms.
