Neurologists, psychologists, evolutionary biologists, etc. all try to figure out what makes something funny, but can never *exactly* pin it down. Meanwhile, comedians have no trouble at all figuring out what makes something funny, but don't explain it, for the obvious reason that jokes aren't as funny if you stop to explain them. So we'll probably never get a really good explanation of what funny is from anyone. That being said, I think laughter is a signal to the rest of the tribe that all is well. Take any situation where a person would normally laugh, but doesn't. You'd immediately think something is wrong. A person being tickled looks just like a person being violently attacked, but the difference is that in tickling, the "victim" is making a sound to let everyone else know that it's not an attack, but simply playing. A person who gets suddenly scared might scream (a distress signal), but if on second look, the thing that scared them isn't a real danger (such as a person dressed as a monster in a haunted house), they immediately laugh, letting everyone hear that the scream was a false alarm. One person insult another person, and it looks like a fight might break out, but if they're both laughing, then we all know that they're just friends kidding each other. A person falls down, and it looks like he might be injured, but if he laughs, then we know he's all right. In any case, the laughter spreads from person to person, so that the whole tribe can join in spreading the signal that all is well. Now extend this concept to something that might be considered intellectually dangerous, such as bad logic, challenging preconceived notions, disrespecting authority, spreading stereotypes, recounting painful experiences, pointing out social injustice, or even using deliberately distorting the language that we use to communicate (i.e. puns). These are unpleasant things to think about, but by framing them in a way that triggers the "all is well" signal, then we can face unpleasant truths without fear, because we're reinforcing the signal that even though we're talking about unpleasantness, we're going to be fine. As for HOW to frame these unpleasant ideas in such a way that we can face them with humor rather than fear is an art form, which, like other forms of art, can only be achieved through years of practice.
Is it odd if I laugh by myself ALL THE TIME? Like when I walk out for lunch, I see something funny, or have a funny thought process, and just laugh. Or my imagination takes me away into another world and I laugh myself. Or sometimes in the shower, when I look at myself in the mirror, do funny things, and just laugh at myself?
Frozencup Omg, that plays in too! I imagine looking at myself from a third person's point of view, and I look so crazy laughing alone that I laugh even more.
my son is 15 now. he has Asperger's and he's always making a joke. he has a dry sense of humor. he doesn't understand why people laugh when he says things. he use to ask me and his father, all the time, "why did they laugh?" we'd tell him "because you said something funny". he'd ask "what was funny about what i said?" most of the time i couldn't explain it, i just found it funny and so did others. his peers talk and some of the talking came back to Zach, my son, and they said he does't even laugh at his own jokes. he's always been like this. i think he's going to like this and the series that's coming. thank you for making these videos, because it helps people like him understand more about himself and the reactions he causes in others.
me and my friend have the *SICKEST KIND OF DARK HUMOR* like jokes who cant exist you should get you into hell but it always get me laughing uncontrolibly during school XD best school moments
+Darth Revan The next question of Testube should be "why japanese people don't laugh at American jokes". Am serious, they really can't get our sense of humor. Funny japanese TV are similar to kid cartoon to us, not subtile at all. And am not trying to be mean to Japanese comedy, they are just different If you know the character "ichy and scratchy" from Bart Simpson cartoon, that's a good exemple of japanese comedy. Another exemple of most funny japanese comedy " An ordinary 40 something japanese lady take an elevator, every level shoe goes the men press a button so they don't meet her. When she asked them why, one of the men said, because you too ugly. This exemple is actually a very funny japanese show and japanese laugh a lot during that particular joke. I think that japanese are good in technology and work ethic but poor at comedy
A bear walks into a drug store. "Whe'ah the Aspirin!" he drawls. "Ah need Aspirin, whe'ahs it at!" "We have many different kinds of pain reliever," the pharmacist replies. "If you tell me what sort of pain..." "No, no, no!" the bear interrupts. "I need Aspirin, whe'ah is it!" So the pharmacist gets the bear his brand name and the bear pays for it, (don't ask how), and starts to leave. "Pardon me," the pharmacist says, "but I just have to know. Why that particular drug?" "It's Bayer Aspirin, ain't it? Well, Ah'm a bayer!"

People with a sick sense of humor are the least sensitive. At the same time high emotions get you involved with both crying and laughter. It's a perfect example of how emotions have nothing to do with sensitivity. Sensitivity has everything to do with perception.
Its kinda weird...... When people laugh our brains light up and we get chemical changes going on (brain reacting to external influences) and all this is quite normal. But when people feel shit and have chemical changes in the brain they are labelled as depressed and told they need medication.
Ali Alshakhs Unfortunately it is NOT severe cases that only get medication...... I know here in Ireland its VERY VERY easy to get prescribed medication just by visiting a doctor and telling them your feeling 'low' etc....no tests needed, they just write prescriptions based on your humour. Its wrong and people are being medicated when they don't need it, and told that when they feel bad they can get a tablet to fix it. This is sooo wrong.
so I have a question. I don't normally think the normal things are funny. normal things as in stuff most people find funny. most people don't find the things that I think are funny to be funny. one thing I find to be extremely funny is the violence in Quentin Tarantino movies. I also could not stop laughing at the end of the movie departed when everyone got shot in the face. no one else found this stuff funny.
I absolutely love these videos. But allow me to offer some constructive criticism. It's frustrating to watch one of the 5 videos only to find yourself struggling to find the next one. NONE of the rest of the videos appear in the recommended videos, there are no links to the other videos in the description (ever), and clicking the link at the end of any of these videos merely takes us to your channel and asks us to subscribe, as opposed to taking us to the listed video as implied. I can personally guarantee that your channel/videos would not only get more viewers but also more subscribers if navigating from video 1 to 2, 2 to 3, etc was less of a chore.
