For those who don't know : The CF version of the Tokina 11-20 ( stills version) is identical lens in terms of image quality. The only difference between the Cine and the CF is that the cine has the metallic housing, focus rings and larger focus throw . Both are parfocal, both have the same optical formula. I owned both. I kept the CF version for 2 reasons. 1= Very lightweight, yet robust plastic. If I break it I could buy another one for less than £450. 2 = The stills CF version has a very short focus throw which makes it the perfect lens to focus using your finger tips, the focus is super smooth and can be moved fast. Don't worry, there is no bokeh here to be out of focus.
Ever since I saw Children of Men I've been obsessed with going wide right in the action. Its just so much more immersive and organic. I've got the Tokina 11-20 and I love it. Only issue I have is the zoom ring is a bit loose and switching from manual to auto focus is iffy.
Yes! Anytime I watch a film with wide angle I find myself naturally getting obsessed with it. And I’m guessing you have the photo version? If you don’t need the AF you should check out this cine version! There’s a lot of details I didn’t touch on between the two. The cine version has less focus breathing and better light control. Imma have to do a comparison video when I get a chance
@@wcsdiaries S35 doesn't change focal lengths, that is a DSLR myth. S35 isn't "cropped", in fact in cinema - S35 or 4perf is considered "full frame", while 135 / FF is a larger format... normally called VistaVision. So the focal length is 11-20mm and this would be true if you mount the lens on a MFT camera. The only difference there is only the centre portion of the image circle is used (which crops the AOV), but the focal length is unchanged. The "full frame equivalent" is simply the lens you'd use to match the AOV on a FF / 135 sensor camera. On S35 (compared to FF / 135) you simply use wider lenses for the same AOV.
@@flyingfox2005 I call it "effective focal length". Basically what the focal length would be compared to full frame. But you're saying to use super 35 as the standard for focal length, not full frame?
How often are you racking focus from minimum focus to infinity? If rarely, the focus throw isn’t an issue. The shoot we did was super run and gun chasing down galloping horses.
Been watching your content for a while now, never commented tho. You have a very to-the-point content style, and the editing compliments it very well :) You should also include the audio track names in the description IMO, they rock!
Great video as always Cam, and you have me now looking into this lens! I remember awhile back you mentioned vintage glass and Leica R...are you still wanting to get into those?
Hi, i have some questions! - would i have vignetting using this on a c70 with speedbooster? (if so from what vocal mm do you think you can use it with the c70) - did did you find the image quality between this and the photo lens to be drasticly different? - Do you think the old tokina photo 11-20 AutoFocus works well with the c70? If the difference itsnt big and the AF works on the old one i might get the old one and buy a dzo 20-55. < Also wondering what you think about this lens :) Thanks for answering! Great video once again
It’s a super 35 lens, can’t be used with a speedbooster. I haven’t tried the photo version but I have the old 11-16 which has insnaly bad CA and is super soft. And this lens is totally different than the dzo. It’s a 11-20mm super 35mm lens. Can’t get any wider on apsc with such great quality. And the DZO lenses have super bag distortion, I’m not a fan of them personally. And no Tokina doesn’t pay me loo
@@thisisbug Hey mate, I'll reply to your question. I owned both Tokina 11-20 Cine Version and the Tokina 11-20 CF ( new updated version for photography). I use them with my Ursa G2 which has a crop factor of 1.4x and the vignetting is very minimal, exactly what you expect from a very wide angle lens. It's almost not there. If you don't need the cine version because you won't need the metallic body then get the Regular CF version of the 11-20 as they as the same lens without the housing + the regular version has very short focus throw which makes it easy to focus using your fingers. Hope that helped
Yeah, bro, maybe one day, but dropping $2,500 on a lens… that’s out of my range. I’m looking to get the Tokina 11-16mm updated version because the price is right. Cine lenses are awesome and I’d love to get me a set of Cooke lenses, but that’s just not in the cards for me at the moment. I love the results of coming from this lens though.
Yes of course! As your work and clients grow, that’s the time to start getting into these mroe expensive lenses. Even tho $2500 is insanely cheap foe a cine lens. Also, I think the updated 11-20 is suppose to be better than the 11-16
I was debating between that and this lena. Glad I went with this one. At more versatile for the majority of shoots I get stuck on. I need versatility. And the lens shockingly doesn’t have a whole lot of distortion

You'd love it. Especially the weight and the short focus throw is exactly made for what you do
Aren't the coatings better on the cine version? I've had bad experiences with the older tokina 11-16/20s with CA
Yeh just got photo until I save up for a new tripod more vmounts and then probs EasyRig 😅😭

So with the super 35 crop is it basically a 15-30 lens?
@@cammackey Did you not use a gimbal for this shoot?

😢 I am no where close to him, but thank you 😭
Awesome video I loved how well you explained your experience using this beast of a lens!

Been eyeing this one up - looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts man!
have you tried balancing it on the RS2, yet?
Cool video mate! What is the soundtrack in the end?
Been seriously considering this lens with 5k crop - cool to hear it's been working for you

Is there any Variable ND for mattebox systems?
There’s a handful now. The PolarPro is VND. Tilta just released one too

Just the standard canon one
