  • What are the common autism traits for an autistic person? In this video, I go in-depth about 5 signs of autism that you should know when you comes to autism spectrum conditions. Some of the autism traits I talk about here are relating to sensory sensitivities, repetitive behaviours etc. The purpose of this video is to make people aware of traits that are relating to autism. To help people better understand autism spectrum conditions as a whole & to identify common autism symptoms for their own knowledge.

yep, same here. i was diagnosed with adhd when i was a teen but ever did anything about it. i started looking it up again and think i might actually have autism. it got a bit harder and harder throughout the years to maintain relationships or make new friends. i somehow don't know how to do it anymore.

Euphoric! That's the first time i heard someone describe a special interest that way, but its totally true. Especially that first moment when i've realized that i've tapped into something new. Then as time goes on I guess it turns into some kind of lower-level bliss.

Omg I really relate to the struggle with social interaction! I forget to say hello or goodbye to people all the time lol. Or if someone says "hi Serena, how are you?", I'll say "pretty good" and then neglect to return the same question.
Thank you for exploring the differences between social interaction and communication, it is an interesting nuance!

I can’t praise you enough Andy. You communicate in a way that me & my daughter can relate to. My daughter as a young girl was obsessed with dogs. She had a book she studied She learned every page. She now embraces her differences. Yes she has terrible anxiety but she copes. People like you help immensely. So bless you. We send so much love. Embrace. Accept. Learn & appreciate how beautiful you are. 🙌🙌🙌🙌. Keep up these very informative videos. We salute you 😘😘😘😘👍👍👍🙌🙌🙌

I’m obsessed with the Haunted Mansion in the Disney parks. I know the ghosts’ names, and the names of the people who designed the ride. I have books and documentaries. Just on this one theme park ride. I have funko pops of the ghosts and a Haunted Mansion board game.
I don’t know if I’m autistic yet though. I’ve thought i might be for quite a while, and I’m planning to get professionally seen about it, but it has yet to happen. If I am autistic, though, it would explain why I like This One Very Specific Ride so dang much that I know EVERYTHING about it.
I also love stuffed animals and kids toys and get overwhelmed by new things super easily. Also sensory stuff. I take my plush sea slug everywhere so if I get anxious I have something soft to feel.

Aww well I hope when you do go through the diagnosis process that it goes ok. To be fair, I know a few people who are like that who obsess over things including me. I've been obsessing over Star Wars again and learning all the facts and additional stuff that's involved in the world.

That's one of the reasons I like taking classes- I get a regular schedule...jobs fluctuating days/times is a pain for me- i do better more rigid schedule and jobs i am qualified for general- like restaurant/retail (though restaurant work can be a bit of a nightmare- depending on the workplace for me some I am fine with but can be overwhelming especially for a lot of us on the spectrum the constant noises can be hell) that's common of course.
I like the kitchen buzz (like frying food) usually- but i can't deal with extremely difficult co-workers (like someone who is not a manager screaming in my face & trying to prevent me from clocking out on time).

My special interests are The Bloomsbury Group and music. I could tell you the birth and death dates of the members of the Bloomsbury group and when they lived in a certain place and quote pages upon pages of Virginia Woolf. My 2 year deals with a lot of these traits BUT he's extremely smart. He does and says things sometimes that leave my eyes wide I'm floored like did a baby just do that?! What the heck! When I realized I couldn't spank him. He liked it and he thought things were a game, I was wearing myself out until I started to change my ways to fit his needs so things will be easier for us both. Things have actually already been better the last couple months! I'm happier and he's extremely happy and he's listening more and he's not trying to get a reaction from me bc he thinks it's funny.

Can you explain what it feels like when you feel a stim coming on? My son is sensitive to lights it seems, and either he will side eye, shake his head with his eyes fixated on it, or he will start crying. I just wish I could feel what he feels so I can understand whats going on in his beautiful head. Sorry if thats like a bad question to ask, I am so new to all of this. Its kinda funny, i worked with kids who are on the spectrum in all levels, but its different when it hits home. I feel lost.

The entire time I was watching, I couldn't help but fixate on your teeth, which are really cool and vampire looking. ;]
On another note, I am one such person who doesn't know whether or not I am autistic, but I am fairly sure that I don't have ADHD or OCD. I would go to a medical professional but now's not the time, and I've been told that since my behavior is 'not a problem' that I wouldn't have anything to gain out of being diagnosed. To which I disagree, because at the very least, it would tell me if I am autistic or not so I don't end up falsely claiming so, which gives me more anxiety than I could explain. I assure you that my questioning is not baseless and I've tried to build up a list of shared things I experience.

For me it's embarrassing and awkward.
    Any advice?

    • @IndieAndy
      @IndieAndy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

To be fair, you don't have to tell people that you are autistic if that's what you want. But I think that it's about thinking what's embarrassing or awkward about it? If it's things about you that you do then that's you just being you. Which I know others might not accept but that's other people's problems you know. Take the time to accept you for you and I think the rest just comes with time.
For me I didn't get to a stage of acceptance until I was in my adult years. But definitely learning to just understand yourself and not letting other people's views get you down is the key. I hope this helps 👍
