That was me and my son on the other side flying with a new guy who came from uptown. The youtube algorithm is too good. We were also flying an avata 2 , as well as a dji fpv. The manhattan guy was flying a mini 4 pro . I left shortly after this video because it was pretty windy but will be back soon.
@@xavier_arthur I fly both the avata and avata 2 but the potato is still my fav. Something about that bulk and that propeller sound. Hoping dji makes a similar FPV in the future.
Had phantom/spark/mini/mini3 pro now got avata 2 experience is totally different, other drones are good for pics & videos whereas avata2 is a sports drone for thrill I’m not a fpv so normal mode is satisfying so far
Nice critique. I agree with most of your points, but I have the goggles integra and like the built in battery. It has a lot of run time, especially with the automatic shutdown if not in use. And with the addition of a small speedybee BEC, can charge while flying with almost any lipo. I also personally prefer physical buttons over touch control on goggles.
@@xavier_arthur TH-cam zaps my comment, probably because I refer to the store named after a river. It costs about $20 You can plug a 3-6s xt60 into one side and then go usb C to the goggles. You also need a USB-C to USB-C cable. It is very small as well- just a bit wider than an xt60. I think if DJI made the prop guards replaceable, I'd fly without them 90% of the time lol.

I got this drone mainly for indoor tours, and have been practicing going in and around my bedrooms and bathrooms, where I seem to prefer the beginner mode, much like the tripod mode in other DJI drones. I don't have the compatibility problem because this Avata 2 is my only FPV and it supplements my full-frame camera gimbal and other camera drones. One reviewer suggested the motion controller is actually smoother than the sticks controller, which would be one more thing for me to carry around. The one issue for me seems to be the goggles battery that should be replaceable with a second one in the field if needed. I added 3/8-inch rubber foam around the prop guards because I anticipate flying (slowly) around people.
Lot of great points here sir! Planning on doing a bit of both but definitely looking forward to learning fly through videos. Just got my Avata 2 the other day and in beginner mode it's a Very confident drone indoors!
Here is the answer regarding the controller: it’s not an O4 controller… the controller talks to the goggles and the googles transmit BOTH video and controller signals. That is why it differs from the minim 4p controller.
Yup, DJI can also make the mini 4 controller 🎮 communicate with the goggles 3 too! If they want. Or they can make it connect directly to the avata 2, just like the older controller 2 & older goggles 2 connects to the avata 2 💪
All points totally valid. The culture and business model of DJI is a love hate. Love your perspectives along with your the content. Edits Cuts Transitions and Sound are SOoo good.
Great video. Controller 3 should also be able to operate the mini 4 Pro and the Air 3. This is one reason why a lot other FPV operators will never get into the DJI ecosystem
Good question about the RC2 compatibility with the Avata 2. Is it possible they just haven't coded for that yet? But yes, makes sense that the DJI motivation is to get the additional controller purchase $. Great channel as always, I really enjoy your thoughts.
It's the right FPV drone for me. So far I've only flown with the Motion 3 controller and I love it. I don't think I will be ordering the FPV controller 3. Great video, and thanks for sharing.
I agree with everything you say, also the Avata 2 seems to have flight stability issues, on a non windy day flying in a straight line slowly it wobbles around and I’m not the only one to spot this . When will DJI fix this???…🤔🤔🤔
Its an introductory cinewhoop consumer product to make it easier for noobs to get started, myself included with the first avata. If you plan on getting serious, your better off getting a 5 inch, real cinewhoop or doing something like the 3.5 inch upgrade for the old avata. Doubt the new one has something like that in aftermarket yet tho.
Hallo , cool report Thanks , yes i have dji Fpv , Avata 1 and Avata 2 , and from the 2 i have rady crash 7 time and strong , yes no chanche pices and frame not ok , the drone its top for cinematic , not hard fpv
This was the most valuable review so far for me. I think is better to buld my own FPV drone. Maybe wait a bit to see if DJI 04 will be available for custome fpv drones.
I agree that they should help us have less things to carry around and make the controllers backward compatible. But I have seen two camps in all the Avata 2 video reviews, those that are already experienced FPV manual pilots and those that are not. The first group always finds some short coming with the Avata and second group loves the Avata because they fly cine-drones or never flown any drones and find the motion controller and goggles an amazing immersive experience and a ton of fun! And many in the second group are happy never buying the manual FPV controller and some of them may eventually jump over to to the first group and buy an FPV drone kit. The Avata has its place and DJI is mainly targeting the second group.

I love your channel but I do think your review is a bit negative. Maybe the drone doesn’t suit your particular circumstances but it really is a fantastic introduction to FPV for people not interested in building their own drones and particularly looking for cinematic footage rather than thrill riding.
I’m returning mine I know for sure fpv isn’t my thing after this purchase. It’s fun in a way but not that fun I want to pour tons of energy into it to be good for all these fast clips that most look meh even if good.
Part. But the other part is due to their develop team. I m a beginner with money, i broke 3 fpv s in the last 2 months. Bought the avata 2 10 days ago, flew her daily for 1h, didn t crash yet! I spent more on the other 3 fpv s and neither of them did the trick for me. It s just a hobby for me, i keep updated with all new technology, not just drones!
Hey if you are a noob that can't find the time to learn to fly a real FPV drone...or wants to put the time into learning the skills that it takes to be a real FPV pilot...just needs something they can pick up and use for a few months before finding a new hobby, or go back to flying a Mavic lol... this is the drone for you! even comes with the Ron Jeremy shaped controller so you can look like you really know what you're doing, without actually learning how to fly! The best purchase I ever made was buying on with remote ID...having very little spots I could fly at because of that...and best of all the China Motherland and GOV got their eyes on me....as I miss when mommy would always look at what I was doing and say no no no bad kid! You can't do that! or when they put the GPS tracker on my bike before I went out...and would always give me permission to ride my bike, and tell me where I could or could not ride it! I love DJI for this reason only! REMOTE ID forever! Next up they will have a little Chinese guy or gal shipped with the AVATA 5 and they will make orange chicken for you when you fly in a approved location! Can't you just plug in a USB charging brick to extend the battery? I do that with my quest 3 and my DJI Goggles 2... (the battery thing shouldn't be an issue for anyone). BTW. Great image quality and easy to set IPD and diopters. Could you please do a video on how to get computer or phone video into the goggles so we can watch a movie on a plane or try a FlightCrash Drone Simulator in the goggles 2?
Uhh the new goggle 3’s battery is supposed to last you like 3hrs? So, approx. you’ll end up using 8 avata 2 intelligent batteries before needing to charge the goggle based on 23min duration of the intelligent battery. You’ll have plenty of juice before needing to recharge it. However, I’m not sure how long it takes to fully charge from 0% to 100%.
Don't worry DJI will eventually make it backwards compatible, they just want to get all of the impatient customers first that are willing to pay the extra for the controller and goggles.
Um... the Avata 2 isn't made for "hardcore" FPV pilots. Every product wasn't designed for you. What's the difference between strapping a battery pack to your head or a powerbank?
