A detail I love is that Miles explaining his Disruption Theory is basically telling the audience how this movie ends.
“If you want to shake things up, you start with something small. But you go with things that people are kind of tired of anyway. Will you break more things? Bigger things? Are you willing to break the thing that nobody wants you to break? Because at that point people are not going to be on your side. But that is what true disruption is.”
Helen starts with the little pointless glass statues. The others start cheering for her and joining in. Then she starts breaking other things like the bar, and the others start getting skittish. Then, of course, it all leads up to the big thing. The Mona Lisa. And everything calls out for her to stop. But of course, Helen being the true Disrupter of the movie, does not stop.

Rian Johnson fought to keep the name as just Glass Onion, but Netflix thought audiences would be too stupid to realize that it's a connected film.

Jessica Henwick as Peg is so damn adorable in this. One of my favourite little details in this is the brief shot where she's writing her name on the red solo cup.
It's a great subtle visual gag.

I only noticed on a rewatch that the musical clue in the invitation box is also directly telling us the structure of the film. “A fugue is a beautiful musical puzzle… layered back over itself it starts to change and turns into a … new structure.” When Helen/Andi is shot, the story also loops back onto itself and changes what we already saw to show a new and different meaning when it replays the same scenes.

The guy talking about Bach at Kate Hudson's party is Yo Yo Ma, probably the most famous cellist in the world.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt did the sound of the Hourly Dong.
Stephen Sondheim, Natasha Lyonne, Angela Lansbury, & Kareem Abdul-Jabbar were the people he was playing Among Us with in the beginning.

      These aren't just random cameos.
Angela Lansbury was Jessica Fletcher a detective for 12 seasons of "Murder, She Wrote".
Natasha Lyonne is in Rian Johnson's TV show "Poker Face" as a detective.
Stephen Sondheim is a noted lover of puzzles and would concoct huge and elaborate murder mysteries and scavenger hunts for his friends. He also co-wrote "The Last of Shiela" a fantastic 1973 whodunnit movie that directly inspired the bones of Glass Onion (a man invites his friends to a weekend of mystery game and it ends in murder).
And Kareem Abdul-Jabbar... Not going to lie, I have nothing for why he was there.

This movie is so well-crafted. The details you can spot when you watch the movie again are insane. Not only stuff like Miles handing Duke his glass before lying about it. You should definitely watch it again and see how obvious the clues are when you actually know what to be looking for. One of my favorite things in the movie is Miles definition of disruptors speech. He goes on about the true disruption is going so far to cross the line disrupt the one thing that no one wants to messed with. Which is exactly what happens in the movie, the destroying of the Mona Lisa was the line that was too far for all of the other characters to be on board.

One of the fun things about this movie is that you can actually go back and watch Miles commit the murder of Duke as he does it. If you pay close attention, you can see him add the pineapple juice to his drink, you can see him stash the gun in the ice bucket, you can see him hand Duke his glass, and you can even see Duke's phone in his back pocket in a few shots. The film brushes over these, but they are all in there. The murderer is in plain sight if you're paying attention.

Birdie is a celebrity who keeps getting canceled for saying racist things. She also didn't isolate during CoViD and wears a mesh mask.. Clare is a performative politician (She constantly wearing her mask incorrectly, but wants to be seen as wearing it). Duke is the men's rights activist, ammosexual, and anti-masker who is dominated by his mom. And, of course, Miles. This movie was done before Elon bought twitter but a billionaire who is famous for companies whose ideas are not his own (Tesla). So yeah, people who don't like "Woke" hate this movie. As it’s one of those non-sense words from their psychedelic period that John intentionally put in the lyrics when he found out people were over analysing their songs. You should definitely watch the movie again to see just how much is telegraphed right from the start. It tells us enough to solve the mystery if we are paying attention. For example the Andi/Helen twist is in Helen's first scene when she breaks open the box. Not only does it tell us this character wasn't smart enough to figure out the box when she probably should (no offence to Helen) but it showed Helen will destroy everything Miles has to get to the secret inside, which is exactly what happens. Also, I have noticed a lot of people sharing Easter eggs from the movie so here is one that not many pick up on. When we first see Miles on the beach he is playing a guitar and playing Blackbird by the Beatles. He tells Birdie the guitar is the one Paul McCartney wrote the song on. Paul McCartney is left handed and is playing a right handed guitar. Miles truly has no idea about anything he has.

    • @godricbarbarossa8001
      @godricbarbarossa8001 ปีที่แล้ว

It is not that Helen is not smart enough to open the box but that, like Marta in the first movie with the Thrombey's, Helen doesn't play the game Miles' and the shitheads' way. The joke is that it doesn't take a genius to open the box. It is not the shitheads who open the box. Everything that they figure out to open the box was given to them by Duke's disinterested mom.

@45:50 - Rian Johnson doesn't like that name either. He understands why they did it from a marking standpoint but he wants it subtitled as a Beniot Blanc Mystery if it needs to be subtitled at all. He said maybe they will be able to do that for the 3rd one.

Loving these Rian Johnson movies, and while they are murder mysteries, it feels like it's not meant to be solved by the viewer, while certainly there are parts that are hinted or shown to us, there's plenty that isn't as well, I feel they are less about us obsessing about trying to catch these details, and just sit back, enjoy the ride/movie. There was no hints to the twins (While Helen's hair as Andi was parted on the other side, we didn't see real Andi until after the reveal), and the part with Duke at the pool mentioning almost getting hit, in the first scene he doesn't get the "Andi" out that they show us in the review later.
Noah Segan (who plays Derol) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The voice for the Dong) Pretty much appear in all of Rian Johnson's movie in some fashion, in Knives Out Segan was one of the detectives where as once again JGL only appears as a voice, the detective in the show Marta's sister is watching at one point.
I imagine others have pointed out the "Knives out Mystery" title thing, the studio sort of forced it to be recognizable, where as Rian Johnson is wanting the next one to indeed being "A Benoit Blanc Mystery". As always, enjoy the reactions.

Adding "knives out" to the title was done by the studio, iirc. To get that Name Recognition value. I think it was unneeded as well.

I mean, you CAN make cheese from breast milk, but that's one of those things that "just because you can, doesn't mean you should" things.
And I get calling it a "Knives Out" mystery. Since that was the name of the first movie... if the first movie had been called "Knives Out: A Benoit Blanc Mystery" then just saying "Glass Onion: A Benoit Blanc Mystery" would have been fine. But they need a way to clue in to people that it is the same universe as the original movie.
Also, i liked Glass Onion a lot, but i LOVED knives out.

I'll give Miles this - he knew how to invest in his friends. Most of them probably wouldn't have had the careers they had without his support. Even Birdie, who was already famous, repeatedly needed his help to keep from tanking herself. Then consider how he became Andi's partner in the first place. He knew she had a good idea (he probably didn't understand it, but he could see that she did and was excited about it) so the only way I could see him getting to be her business partner would be if he scraped some money together to invest in her idea right from the very start.
But then again he also knew when to call in those favors to replace the best pair of coat-tails he was riding on.
The song "Glass Onion" by the Beatles was about how people were looking too deeply into their lyrics for meaning and secret clues, when they were just trying to make fun rock songs.
The thing about this series of mysteries is that the real question isn't just "who done it," it's also "what was done" and "how was it done."

It's a little off since it is an unrelated story, but I get why they did it. There was probably way more name recognition from Knives Out than Blanc. That might be less true next time, but the precedent is set. We'll see.

When she calls the group shitheads, she's understating by a lot. Keep in mind that, though no one got a good look at the napkin before Miles burned it, everyone knows it was real because he burned it. But the real tell is that all of this happens AFTER the group learns that Miles murdered Andi and that he murdered Duke. They all know he's committed two homicides, both of them their own peers, and they still don't turn on him until they realize he's going to lose it all by being responsible for the destruction of the Mona Lisa.

Oh, baring the end of the world, there'll be more Benoit Blanc movies. Netflicks didn't pay $450 million for one film.
And both Johnson and Craig have said they're happy to keep making these. There'll be at least one more.
Meanwhile, you can react to Poker Face, a mystery detective series by Johnson and Natasha Lyonne (who cameoed in Glass Onion).

The whole time I was watching, from the "twin sister" reveal until about... until Benoit found the envelope? I kept thinking that there was no twin sister, that the envelope was just an envelope. That Cassandra made up the idea of a twin sister to get Benoit to help her, and the envelope was a red herring to cause Miles to admit he didn't create the company, with Cassandra planning on recording him admitting it, or saying it in front of Benoit so that he could testify to that.
Because, you know... a twin sister? Outlandish. Cassandra keeping the note? Outlandish. Cassandra finding the note immediately after the trial ended? Outlandish. Cassandra taking a picture of *AN ENVELOPE* and not a note? ... not outlandish, but weird. Cassandra not simply using the note to prove that Miles and ThE dIsRuPtOrS perjured themselves? Outlandish. And stupid. Why didn't she just use the note to prove they lied?
I don't know if my story would've made for a better movie, but would've made a lot more sense, in my opinion.

It's a mystery comedy and it's hilarious. Great cast including Peter Sellers, Peter Falk and David Niven.

    Hello all!
I enjoyed re-watching the movie. This is fun. Thank you.
I had written a longer response then realized it had spoilers.
Halle Berry a reference to her on the Hot Ones spicy wings show appearance?
Leto played the joker. Doesn't seem like a coincidence how cray cray things get after that. Nice literary device. Along with the foil that Miles mentions. Clever writing.
Johnson has Blanc tell THE Miles Bron in front of that painting that he's a jackass. Interesting commentary on shithead "disruptiors".
Angela, you guessed it right from the start; the note. Also, the allergy. You are good at this. You even had a glass of wine at the start.
My favorite part is when Blanc makes his offer at the end. What happens next is beautiful.
English Gentleman used to keep a hermit on their land. Couldn't tell you why, seems like it might have something to do with corporate culture and controlling people and is maybe why it faded right up the annals of history.
Pardon, but I felt the need for a little levity. Some humor to lighten things a little.
    'Till next time.
