Magnasanti. 9 million people living in the ruin of the old world and the mega structures of the new one. Only one thing fighting for order in the chaos: the Precincts.
Every so often I come back to this video (and the tour, and that one interview) and man. There is really something special about Magnasanti. Both on a commentary level and the sheer amount of planning, time, and effort that's gone into it.
The actual fascist leaders (IE, Hitler, Mussolini, Pavelic, Quisling, Pétain, and Franco) were craven, murderous opportunists who created regimes full of nepotism and corruption. They didn't have the vision or drive to make anything worthwhile, much less a massive project like Magnasanti. I'd add Pinochet to that list too, as he was also an authoritarian right-wing scumbag who abused his citizens and embezzled huge sums of money for his own personal gain. Yet far-right jack offs worship him like he was some kind of great, heroic leader while overlooking the numerous ways he cheated his citizens and his country
This was purposeful and is explained by the creator of this video in his interview with Vice: www.vice.com/en_us/article/4w4kg3/the-totalitarian-buddhist-who-beat-sim-city
this is considered a "successful" city by the game. this game has had influence on elections for political offices, both at home (NYC one time) and abroad (croatia iirc, definitely one of the balkans). let that sink in.
But the game doesn’t ignore all the problems that exist. The poor education, the police state, the lack of hospitals and fun things for the Sims to do.
this has to be the absolute masterpiece of every city builder to ever exist in gaming history. an outstanding achievement. and one of the best youtube videos posted, ever.
I've strangely hit the replaying button. but I'm not enough perfect to look at these city. Amadasanti Parasanti Magnasanti. models of perfection, where everyone is equal. where everyone died at the same age. have the same education. have the same building, the same room. The time become so meaningless. even the date cannot change. 50,000 Years. This is the perfection.
I think the second song, starting at 0:18, is heavily processed and may even be slowed down. With that in mind, an interview with the designer indicates he was influenced by Philip Glass who composed music for a movie called Koyaanisqatsi. Slowing that soundtrack down sounds similar to the middle track here. #2 "Vessels" seems the closest. The instrumentation was probably changed from organ to a guitar effect.
This is madness no sane human would do this only a human who has sold their soul. A human who thrives on lifelessness and despair for others no this is a straight up villain created nonsense and he needs his “work” stepped on and demolished before any living thing can be victim to his sadistic wrath

I'm just happy the creator of Magnasanti focused his effort on Sim City and not real world regime change to topple world democracies and install totalitarian dictators who's only goal is peak efficiency and population density by any means necessary.
Someone built the dead city of Rlyah in SimCity 3000? Good for them. Though I doubt they could do that with SimCity 2013, as that uses the awesome power of Glassbox. You know, the game whose AI is so advanced and demanding that the game needed to be always-online! Oh wait, nevermind.
That was totally awesome. I am in awe. I like the cultural implications too, which seemed somewhat serendipitous if not downright ominous. Nice to see a fellow Filipino doing something like that.
This is truly one of the best creations in the world, its not only about a man beating one of the most complex Citybuilders but dedication, truly world wonder
This is one of those 'oh there is something Wrong with you' pieces of art and I mean that as a sincere compliment. There's something about a slightly deranged work that rewires your brain and it's great.
Imagine an urban hellscape which extends infinitely on into the horizon, yet there is no reason to explore anywhere as it is nothing but a deliberately engineered matrix of perfectly repeating sectors. This is the hell of the human spirit. This, is Magnasanti.
It's terrifying because it's an inhuman, uniform, brutalist city that perfectly encapsulates the values of 20th century totalitarianism. It's amazing as a technical accomplishment but goddamn it would be a terrible place to live. It's like a fascist dream city and should be rendered in a tileset of slab-sided concrete box buildings. Also that population graph at 6:40 ELDERLY CITIZENS ARE UNPRODUCTIVE. ALL CITIZENS MUST REPORT FOR TERMINATION AND RECYCLING AT AGE 55. THE STATE HAS PROVIDED ENTERTAINMENT FACILITIES FOR YOUR COMFORT AS YOU AWAIT PROCESSING.
The fact there are several of these cities he made, and the meaning of their names, makes it seem like they exist in the same world, probably as part of some unimaginably efficient totalitarian empire, that spans both the entire globe and the entire future after its establishment.
Dude oh my fucking god. I have never played one of these games but that seems really impressive. I love that he had a city of perfect health, perfect employment... and went, NO. _I can fit more people in there_.
And yes, this is utilitarianism. Just for an inhuman value function.
For 6 minutes 59 seconds I lived on the edge of complete madness.

It's been 9 years since this video was uploaded to youtube, 5 years since I was first shown this video, and it is as magnificent and terrifying when I saw it the first time. Thanks for the nightmares. Long live Magnasanti.
And they all lived happily ever after, *FOREVER...*
......In 50 year increments.
I don't get it..
...and ever...and ever...
this is honestly one of my favorite videos on TH-cam. its mezmerizing and impressive
This man could be a professional fascist whenever he wants
+Sammy yea, someone should gift him a copy of Victoria 2 on Steam.
the last fascist leaders killed themselves and got hanged at a gasstation
+doge from russia Oh my
@@Vicowanger and communist leaders are being hanged forever in hell now
The actual fascist leaders (IE, Hitler, Mussolini, Pavelic, Quisling, Pétain, and Franco) were craven, murderous opportunists who created regimes full of nepotism and corruption.
This is terrifying.
This was purposeful and is explained by the creator of this video in his interview with Vice: www.vice.com/en_us/article/4w4kg3/the-totalitarian-buddhist-who-beat-sim-city
Monkey suit by mf doom...now you can either be really scared or happy it'll end
This guy is a fucking genius but this video is just fucking eerie.
this is considered a "successful" city by the game. this game has had influence on elections for political offices, both at home (NYC one time) and abroad (croatia iirc, definitely one of the balkans). let that sink in.
But the game doesn’t ignore all the problems that exist. The poor education, the police state, the lack of hospitals and fun things for the Sims to do.
is this a letsplay by satan himself?
Cuerex More like God.
Underrated. I was going to make this exact comment.
this has to be the absolute masterpiece of every city builder to ever exist in gaming history. an outstanding achievement. and one of the best youtube videos posted, ever.
I've strangely hit the replaying button.
but I'm not enough perfect to look at these city.
Amadasanti
Parasanti
Magnasanti.
models of perfection, where everyone is equal. where everyone died at the same age. have the same education. have the same building, the same room.
The time become so meaningless. even the date cannot change. 50,000 Years.
This is the perfection.
You're insane
I love it
This is one of my favourite works of modern art.
Reminds me of a short story by J.G Ballard called "The Concentration City".
When you want to summon Satan by playing SimCity.
Im here
@@Van-Bel-Kum XD
@@Van-Bel-Kum hahaa
@@Van-Bel-Kum Dude, sorry, four years late to the summoning. Hope you're still around.
This is art.
This is madness no sane human would do this only a human who has sold their soul. A human who thrives on lifelessness and despair for others no this is a straight up villain created nonsense and he needs his “work” stepped on and demolished before any living thing can be victim to his sadistic wrath
Actually, yes: "Art (noun) 1. the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power."
@@MrSponge56 This guy clearly studied a lot of evil plans like Brave New World and Satanic Freemason plans and control mechanisms, and implemented them here in his little fantasy.
This video makes me feel unwell
I'm not 100% sure what i just witnessed.
But i am 120% sure it's time to bow down to our new lord and master Tasrhgs02.
+Serithi Maybe thats a small simulation about our future, and maybe that's what they want us to do LOL (sorry about my english)
So this is what an insanity plea looks like in video form
I saw this video like 4-5 years ago and got obsessed. Now I'm a law student, seriously thinking about making a research about how law aspects, juridical systems could work in Magnasanti...
Corporate Police State. The entire city is a prison.
This seems like something out of 1984
thats what i thought....
@@Bakobos It's clear that this guy studies certain works like 1984, Brave New World, Satanism, and Freemasonry.
well well well. Look at what's going in my D&D campaign. Thank you heaps, the video has lore, musical inspiration and even naming conventions. Cheers.
this is 40K as fuck
+Killer.exe I imagine that this is how citys on Holly Terra looks like
Afargu Omrot
I think that pretty much all of the Hive Worlds are quite similar to this
+Killer.exe excent for the 0% crime rate
Afargu Omrot
true
replace the 0% pollution rates with 100% and you've got yourself a deal
5:34 this is where Mr. Bones' wild ride was built
I'm just happy the creator of Magnasanti focused his effort on Sim City and not real world regime change to topple world democracies and install totalitarian dictators who's only goal is peak efficiency and population density by any means necessary.
Music from part 2 for those who want it: Jesper Kyd - Apocalypse
Thank you Yuri.
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF ART
Glad I watched this in the day and not at night.
This is amazing. The calculation and time taken is astonishing and the final perfection is unbeatable. In other words....wow.
Why this bring so much joy to us boys? Why?
We salute you Grandissimo Overlord.
Shall Magnasanti be mankind's gift to eternity.
This is breathtaking yet horrifying.
Wow, we're lucky this guy is playing SimCity. If he became a politician, he'd create a dystopia.
This should me in MOMA. The man is a real Artist. One of the most powerful pieces I have ever seen.
That was totally awesome. I am in awe. I like the cultural implications too, which seemed somewhat serendipitous if not downright ominous. Nice to see a fellow Filipino doing something like that.
And it seems that not many among our kind can do the same, considering what happens right now.
A share of our geniuses, as such with my man here, and Wesley So (chess grandmaster), to name 2, there will always be progressive minds
*dinky carnival ferris wheels at the very epicenter*
Satan: absolute perfection my son
This is truly one of the best creations in the world, its not only about a man beating one of the most complex Citybuilders but dedication, truly world wonder
The editing on this must be appreciated.
Give this man Factorio and he'll stop eating
This is an absolutely awesome piece of work, massive amounts of effort and dedication and an excellent video with the perfect music !
This madlad was truly a visionary.
This is one of those 'oh there is something Wrong with you' pieces of art and I mean that as a sincere compliment. There's something about a slightly deranged work that rewires your brain and it's great.
This is a human achievement
+very good Are we even sure ?...
I just got recommended this after watching ambiguousamphibian's video on it. Not really what I was expecting, it's like a trailer for hell
Now do this on Cities: skylines!!!
Holy shit yes
+Michael Jesus Or even better; Simcity 4
For the uninformed, here's the vice article about the creator:
www.vice.com/read/the-totalitarian-buddhist-who-beat-sim-city
This comment needs to be pinned up!
Imagine an urban hellscape which extends infinitely on into the horizon, yet there is no reason to explore anywhere as it is nothing but a deliberately engineered matrix of perfectly repeating sectors.
This is the hell of the human spirit.
This, is Magnasanti.
Why is this video fucking terrifying?
Probably because of the satanic music, and because of how much time he spent on a Sims project. Seems like a sociopath.
Also that population graph at 6:40
ELDERLY CITIZENS ARE UNPRODUCTIVE. ALL CITIZENS MUST REPORT FOR TERMINATION AND RECYCLING AT AGE 55. THE STATE HAS PROVIDED ENTERTAINMENT FACILITIES FOR YOUR COMFORT AS YOU AWAIT PROCESSING.
Ok well what the fuck was all that about?
Dickson Butts
Satanic music? oh please...
***** You know everybody gets tossed into a furnace at age 55 in Magnisanti, because they've grown beyond their most efficient working age, right?
It's 2019 and I keep on coming back to this video for some reason.
Yes
Because it is art. True art often transcends medium. This video will remain relevant for as long as there are humans to observe it.
I...I came back to it again.
When people ask what my favourite horror game is, I say Sim City 3000.
This very video surpassed the realm of internet lore and reached the wealth of common knowledge back in the day, it’s that deranged
All the the planning, the interweaving components of the city for maximum effectiveness, and you actually based the designs off of historical and mathematical symbols. This is art at the apex of technicality.
brazen bull was art of engineering and genius too
Anybody know the song that starts at 0:19? Most evil song I’ve ever heard in my life
Ah good, the nightmares have returned.
This is hellish. This man built hell. In Sim City!
Poéme Électronique, maybe thats the song everyone is looking for, well atleast its simillar
Main song is "Apocalypse" by Jesper Kyd, not the song that tagged
Thank you. I had been looking for that sing since forever.
I feel like I've just got initiated into a satanic clan.
"oh fuck not again"
