Hi I’m 18 I just had my first piano trial class and I wanna continue next week should I take the express route pop music songs or the full ABRSM grade 1-8 route I wanna be able to play as many songs and I want fluently from different genre
I'm going to order a piano for my daughter so she could learn but I also have been wanting to learn for a long time in your video with and you're very inspiring thank you for Sharon video.
Hearing you play Claire de Lune, even just the beginning of it, at 11 months is extremely inspiring for me. I love classical music, and to hear one of my favorite classical pieces being played after only playing piano for less than a year, that was impressive to me. Great job, this was an experience to watch, and good luck on the rest of your piano journey :D
I managed to finish Claire De Lune about a year and a 3 months into learning Piano, it's definitely doable but it was certainly a lot harder than I expected.
my parents got me in piano when i was three and they forced me into practicing 2+ hours a day every day. after a good 8 years i was tired of the recitals and competitions and stop playing piano. videos like these are the ones that got me back into piano after many years. thanks for the awesome video and good luck with all the new pieces you will learn in the future

Congratulations!! This is very inspiring. My parents started me on piano lessons when I was 4 and ended up dropping it because I developed perfectionistic expectations of myself... I've had a difficult relationship with music ever since. Videos like this are such a good reminder that you can always improve and enjoy yourself no matter where you're starting from. Good luck!!!
This is one of the most realistic Piano journeys I have seen on TH-cam. I admire the grind. A lot of these people put up videos where they start playing easy pieces in the first few weeks with proper fingering, shapes ( like the curved pinky finger, lol) , and complete dexterity; I just hate that. For example, no matter how talented you are, you are not getting that curved pinky while playing during your initial days, it takes monthsss. Keep up the good work, man. :)

This is a real progression, not like Many youtube videos where after 8 months they are already able to play la campanella. In order to improve I suggest you a piece : gymnopedie n 1 by satie, simple but really satisfying
I did the same thing over quarantine I knew how to play only a little bit but I had the music theory I just wanted to get better. One of my favorite pieces by my favorite composer is Nuvole Bianche by Ludovico Einaudi and that is the piece that quadrupled my skill playing. I self taught myself also so what I an saying is the people that have basic understanding of piano by that I mean can play an octave scale both hand pretty smoothly go straight to learning Nuvole Bianche the original version not the easy it is an amazing piece, you learn a lot from it, and it is mega fun to play. This is kind of dragging on but the reason why I wasn’t getting better before was because when I was taking lessons (only a few and she pretty much taught me hand positioning which is a big deal and helped) she would give me the easy version of songs which I like to listen to the song and then play it I have a decent ear and I could never find the exact version. Anyways learn a few easy songs like canon in d easy or river flows in you easy and then move to hard songs. Yes they can be challenging but it is fun and you feel good when you learn a harder piece from all the hard work you put in😁 this was a great video!!
dude nice ! i played for 5 or so years starting from grade 5 or 6 (like 10 or 11 ? ) and seeing people make progress and sound good makes me want to get back into it
Do it bro. I'm the same as you (had lessons from 10-15) and started again on my own now that I'm 20. That progress comes back insanely fast. I started 2.5 months back and I can play Comptine d'un autre ete, river flows in you, una mattina and porz goret pretty much flawlessly now
i spontaneously got my first keyboard this last christmas. So far playing stuff like Mad world and Rains of Castamere. Technique still needs a little bit of work but I'm trying to be meticulous in self correcting those type of mistakes. It's been a blast. You're learning at a phenomenal pace btw. I had the luxury of being a guitarist most of my life before I started playing the keyboard a few months ago.
Really funny to see how casual you were on day one just being happy to play a few notes 🤣 and then seeing it manifest into some really nice music over the months. Sick progress! Where is my mind, at 9 months, was my favourite :D

@@jorge_pianojournal I get it, progress for me is also extremely slow. @@moderncaleb3923 indeed! I'm thinking of incorporating recording into the practice process. Recording practice is supposed to be good for tackling performance anxiety as well as assessing your own mistakes 😀
Nice video and very good progress. Obviously your knowledge of rhythm helped you kick start your learning. I was self thought as well before I started taking lessons about 3 years ago and Clair de lune is still above my level. Classical pieces can look deceptively easy. For the romantic period things like pedalling, dynamics, phrasing, playing the top note of a chord as melody, playing rubato, etc... is very important but I'll stop being a snob :D What matters is that you enjoy playing
Yeah I definitely tried it too early, but I think it was good to try it, just to experience exactly how difficult it can get. I can see it being too difficult for me even at 3 years too, but hopefully one day! :D
This is awesome man. I'm learning myself. I've about a month in. Still suck but I can mostly play "Don't wanna miss a thing" by Aerosmith cause my wife asked me to learn a love song for valentines day. Got a few days left. This level of progression you made in a year is truly inspiring. Good job man. Congrats. I was impressed when you played Prelude at six months. Kudos.
Very nice! The thing I noticed was that your piano looks rather high. your arms shouldn't go up from your elbows, you should have basically an L shape that may be angled from your shoulders outwards a bit. Its hard to describe but there are lots of videos shown you. The right height makes a HUGE difference in comfort and fluidity EDIT: it looks like you've fixed it by the end.
Respect the grind! I'm also teaching myself and and almost 5 years later i can finally play Clair de lune "decently" well. In a couple years when you look back to the beginning stages, and appreciate how far you've come it's incredibly forfilling.
At 41 I have been wanting to learn how to play for about the past 5 or 6 years. I was always intimidated by not knowing how to read music or not having any background in music. I finally decided I’m going to push myself to learn and not regret never trying. I’m 4 days in and can only hope I make half of the progress you have. Your skills came a long way from when you first started. I’m glad I came across your video and thank you for being an inspiration
Thank you for posting this. I'm finally acting on a 50 year dream to learn piano. I am waiting for my keyboard to be delivered and I'm encouraged by this video
It's incredibly good that you can play that amazing song for just one year of experience!! It's really a thought-provoking video to watch! Keep it up man don't waste your hard work!!
Hey, great video! That felt really true and encouraging, unlike many others videos where people seems to already know something, I dont know, they seem fake videos. I started to learn piano when I was a teenager, but my teacher died shortly after it, and that demotivated me. Now, 12 years later, I'm thinking in restarting learn it. Need to buy another piano since I got rid of mine and yours' sounded beatiful. Thanks for sharing your progress!
I can make a more detailed video about it soon, but my most useful resources were Adult Piano Adventures book 1 by Faber and the ABRSM syllabus for knowing what scales to learn. I used Hanon exercises for finger strength, accuracy, and speed. Hope that helps :D
great progress! little side note: I'd recommend you to set the stool a bit higher. your elbows should be at least at the same height as your wrists, if not even higher. try that out for a few weeks! once you're used to it i'm sure you won't go back to the old set up.
Thanks for the tip! After I watched this back, I actually did do that. The reason it was orginally at this height is because the stand couldn't go lower and the stool couldn't go higher (they were both cheap lol). But as you've pointed out, my elbows are a little too low. I've since got a new stand which goes low enough :D
Over a year you have managed a lot, and I know If you keep your level of discipline and your love for music, great things are yet to come. Keep It up, really well done! I believe In you! "Patience Is The Key to Persistent Success"
This came up on my recommended just now, I couldn't agree more with you, I've been trying to get into piano lately and this has inspired me even more so than before. P.s How'd that beard happen all of a sudden?
Amazing progress ! would love to know what books / notes you bought that you had in the first couple of months. Im 43 and learning with my kids. I have no music background what so ever so ive decided to get into it.
I used Adult Piano Adventures book 1, followed it strictly whilst learning scales. I used the Complete Book of Scales, Chord, Arpeggios, and Cadences to learn other stuff about scales. I also used Playing Popular Piano and Keyboards by Neil Thomas to learn how to improvise and play lead sheets and independently. I did not get a teacher at any point. There is a lot of good stuff online. Just be disciplined with yourself and don't skip lessons if they're boring.
My teaching method works by half of the time reading music, the rest by theory, ear training, rhythmic studies. Taking lessons eliminates much trial and error.
Adelante 💪
That was so awesome and inspiring, I have always wanted to learn the piano and bought myself one that's supposed to arrive in a few hours now, I hope I ll be able to dedicate to learning the way you did it, I can't even imagine being able to play with two hands one day, but now that I saw you I am so motivated, i ll try one hour a day at least, if I can do a tenth of what you did in one year it would be sooooooo cool... Thank you so much for your video, I've loved it and am superxcited now. Keep it up you obviously have something 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
As a fellow piano self learner I have to admit that there are few things more challenging. My professional life was to teach future airline pilots the basics of aircraft handing. 'Ab initio' or, from the beginning. Then through to multi engine and instrument flight. The biggest challenge was getting the students to relax. Being airborne in charge of a flying machine, as a novice, is not a relaxing inducing activity, but a tense, grip of death on the controls of an aeroplane is a severe drawback to good handling technique. When I sit down at my piano I feel the tension taking over to the point where my muscles ache. My personal advice to anyone attempting to teach themselves is to learn how to relax and play each exercise and new piece of music so slowly that it sounds ridiculous. Something that was not possible in an aeroplane.
Thank you for sharing that. It's true, tension was a pretty big problem for me at the start. I'm much more aware of it now, but it's definitely one of those things you don't think much of but which can have a pretty big effect.
Your very good for a beginner but you still need to work on a couple things. As someone with 8 years of experience on piano who practices daily I would like to give you a couple tips. One: with long jumps don’t try to stretch try to use movement in your arm to make them. Two: try to keep a lot of movement in your arm try to never tense your arm/wrist. Three: never give up with piano there is a period where everything you play seems really difficult and it makes you want to quit this period lasted about one to two years with me. Push past that, you will get really good if you do because I pushed past that period (it was roughly 4 years ago) now I am able to play things like moonlight sonata all three movements, Chopin op 10 no 5, and listz’s un sospiro. When it feels difficult keep in mind how good you can become if you do you will be better than I am now.
@@jorge_pianojournal Thank you ! To Zanarkand is one of the piano piece which motivated me to start piano seriously a year ago. I hope i can handle this soon :)

Anything from Final Fantasy is top tier difficulty. Congrats to you.
Thanks! Sorry to hear about your teacher, but best of luck on relearning! 😀
This is amazing! I started piano but could only go to classes for a couple months and then Covid hit. I really do wanna a start up again.
Go for it! :D
I am just learning music theory right now. I plan on starting my journey on the keys soon. You are an inspiration!
Thanks! Good luck on your journey :)
This is really cool! Nice one!
Nicely done! I also learned “Where Is My Mind” in the first year, great song!
It's a great song, I love it! :D
I'm 27 and I just bought my first Piano. I just started and now I have been playing for a month. I wish I can have the same progress as yours.
Good luck!
My first year was spent on trynna learn how to do moonlight sonata to still dre.
Great progress! Thank you for sharing!
Great work.
Could you please suggest resources you have used during your journey.
I can make a more detailed video about it soon, but my most useful resources were Adult Piano Adventures book 1 by Faber and the ABRSM syllabus for knowing what scales to learn. I used Hanon exercises for finger strength, accuracy, and speed. Hope that helps :D
Please make a video explaining your improvement journey with the resources you used, it will be really helpful 🙂
great progress!
little side note: I'd recommend you to set the stool a bit higher. your elbows should be at least at the same height as your wrists, if not even higher. try that out for a few weeks! once you're used to it i'm sure you won't go back to the old set up.
Thanks, that means a lot! :D
This came up on my recommended just now, I couldn't agree more with you, I've been trying to get into piano lately and this has inspired me even more so than before.
P.s
How'd that beard happen all of a sudden?
Excellent work 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Amazing progress ! would love to know what books / notes you bought that you had in the first couple of months. Im 43 and learning with my kids. I have no music background what so ever so ive decided to get into it.
Very well done!!!!
Keep it going… it is inspiring
Excellent progress! Well done!
Thank you!
You look you have been playing the piano for longer than one year! Great!
Thanks a lot!
what was the method you follow, Who taught the prigressions and chords, what are your learning matirials. Thanks and great job.
You really should think about buying an acoustic piano! At the skill level you have reached it would definitely be a worthwhile investment.
Finally a real progress video, you are doing better than I expected, definitely quite talented :)
Thank you so much 😁
very nice sharing ; it is reel . not like other unrealistic progress
Thanks! I appreciate that :D
Thank you for inspiration :)
Amazing !! What did you do for training ?
Why you so quickly learned playing piano😭, Im so jealous 😢
I just starting to learn and i have a 20 years old
And thank you for inspired me🙏❤️
From Bosnia and Herzegovina
Sarajevo
Playing slow is the key excellent. I am a beginner I could understand what you going thu. Awesome
Awesome! :D
That's an important point🎹✨🙌🏻wish you all the best from another self taught learner 🤗
wow It's really impressive that you learned to reading sheet
Great effort,
For 11 months your version of Clair de lune was really good! Keep it going!
Good work brother man
Finalmente uma evolução no piano verdadeira, vc realmente é bom
Thanks! Great to hear I've inspired you! Good luck, you can do it :D
I was the 200th subscriber :) congrats
Great progress Jorge, keep it up!
Thanks! I will try my best!
You play beautifully!!!
Thanks! That means a lot to me :)
This is amazing!
well done bro I am very proud
Thanks!
Very impressive progress ! I dropped a tear for zanarkand ! I ll definitely play it when i will be ready ! Keep up the good work !
Thanks! Good luck when you start learning it :D
@@jorge_pianojournal Thank you ! To Zanarkand is one of the piano piece which motivated me to start piano seriously a year ago. I hope i can handle this soon :)
Bro your are nearly as good as me after 5 years wtf
Insane progress, keep going!
Amazing bro 😍🥰❤️🎵🎶🎶
This is sick bro keep it up🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
Thanks! Will do! :D
Awesome evolution, keep it up!
Also: do you recommend Adult Piano Adventures Book 1? I'm not an absolute beginner, I would consider my level similar as your 7 moths level but I find it hard for me to learn by myself without any guidance..
I highly recommend it, yes. The accompanying audio and video explanations from Randall Faber are especially helpful in the beginning.
IMPRESIONANTE, ENHORABUENA!!
You're really good!
Thanks a lot! I appreciate that :)
Thumbs up for Final Fantasy :)
Awesome progress, keep it up!
Impressive man!
Awwww man you just made me want to finish learning clair de lune
I have a genuine problem with sticking to pieces I've started, so I have plenty of unfinished pieces lol
Clair de lune is just too beautiful not to finish
I have the exact same problem haha. I have so many unfinished pieces too. I prefer learning pieces closer to my level now, because it doesn't take me so long to learn, meaning I won't get bored of it :D
Love the final fantasy and zanarkand theme!
Thanks! Me too, took me ages to learn Zanarkand at such an early stage of my learning lol
Nice dude. Keep it up!
great progress!!...just a small piece of advise lower your piano is a bit too high...your wrist will thank me many years from now:)
Thanks for the tip! I have done so since filming this :D
