    It's got a cop motor, a four cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires,
    cop suspension, cop shocks, it was a model
    made before catalytic converters so it'll
    run good on regular gas.

    Love that kinda of car. Those 1970 Dodge cars were very good. In the Blues Brothers they smashed up the cars in the chase.

    Phone number on rear quarters is wrong. The speedometer, while it IS A 140MPH speedo, is not the correct one for the police monaco. On the original one, some numbers were bigger than others. I owned CHP 1974 and 1977 Monacos. The original bluesmobiles made for the movie were cars from the TV show CHiPs, which were previously CHP cars.

    My buddy bought a 72 Monaco ex state police car supposedly. It had a 2bbl on it and it was very quick for a huge car. It was yellow and he let me drive it a few times and it was pretty impressive. I think we timed it with a watch and it did 0 to 60 in just over 7 seconds I think. It actually idled like it had a minor cam in it and had way more power than a factory 383 4bbl 67 Monaco he'd had just before it. One time I got to drive it to my house with him and I pulled out of the gas station on the 2 lane street leading to my house and he told me to jump on it. I was doing close to 60 in the few blocks to the turn to my street and even with the big 2bbl that thing howled like a Thermo Quad. Just as I got close I anchored the brakes to slow down and turn right and a local motorcycle cop came flying up from the opposite side street on my left. His head was on a swivel and he almost dropped his bike looking around . He didn't even look at us as I made my right and we put it in my garage just in case. I guess having a 4 door government looking non descrypt quiet car was a plus back then 😉
    How many of these have you built now and I bet when you started they were a lot easier to find. I know we used to see them around here in the late 70s and early 80s. I guess the equivalent now is the last Crown Vic cars. Last auction I went to years ago they were averaging 2500 a pop in nice shape so never got one.

    At least it didn't have the horrible Chrysler Spark Control ( AKA Lean Burn). If this would have had Lean Burn it wouldn't run long enough to get the movie chase scene made.

  • @fishsquishguy1833
    @fishsquishguy1833 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Damn! Just perfect!
    I’ve been lusting after a 74 Monaco ever since I was 13 and saw Blues Brothers at the theater. Even in the early 80s never saw many around my area (New England). Back then the local PD were using those awful St Regis. I think they had, smogged to death, 360s and the Detective/Undercover models were Slant 6s.

    Great idea with the simulated “post”! Got the look with the windows up, and the nice open area when they’re both down. 400 is great too and the distributor is in the correct place when the hood is popped for the Mopar fans!
    Thanks for the nostalgia getting to hear the old “lean carb pop” pulling away! Damn kids and their EFI don’t know how good they have it!
    That exhaust bracket is just mimicking the “we’ve thrown a rod” scene

    I saw an interview in one of the old car magazines awhile back . They randomly asked older Policemen what their favorite car was back in the seventies and many of them answered ..... the early to mid seventies Dodge Monacos .When you saw one appear in your rear view mirror your but hole slammed shut like a bear trap.

    • @DougPoker
      @DougPoker 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those old cars were heavy but they would “float” when you drove them. They handled like bricks but man did they ride smooth

    • @fishsquishguy1833
      @fishsquishguy1833 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basty Elwood Called em “boats” because of the smooth disconnected feeling they’d have as you’d “float” on down the highway. Most of them would have the biggest displacement motors their manufacturer would offer : (427, 428 454. 455 500 etc) all big ass torquey as hell motors usually with tall highway gears so they could kick down into 2nd when you’d pass somebody. Big roomy interiors with, most of the time, bench seats so imagine cruising around on your sofa with a big block. Nice comfy and torquey! Lots of babies made in America because of this type of car!

    Very nice replica! Too bad the engine isn't a 440, but 400 is still huge. The original Bluesmoble is a massive car, making the second one, a '90 Crown Victoria look small in comparison. I have an '89 LX of that particular car. Those old '74 Dodges are hard to find, especially legit police models.
    That coupe regular one you have is slick.

    Robert Moseley: Somewhere a good-while back, I'd heard, or read, that Dan Akroyd saved one, THE-original, and at that time, he'd given it to his brother-in-law, to put on display in his---I'm assuming---private museum? Have no idea who, or where. But apparently, there is ONE, and only ONE, original. True/False? I dunno, maybe you, or someone here can confirm such?

      There are 3 "original" Bluesmobiles from the movie that survived. The first one is owned by Akroyd, one is assumed to be in Japan although the exact location/owner remain unknown, and the third one is in Bavaria, being rented out for special occasions (weddings etc.)
