It really is. You learn everything you need to know about Jake, Ellwood, and the Bluesmobile (the main characters of the movie) in this one quick scene right at the beginning. It jumps right into the plot after that. No wasted time or dialogue or shots. Everything introduced neatly and cleanly in a memorable way that hooks the audience and sets the tone. There are movies that take half of the runtime to do what they did here in 3 minutes.
Today I just gave one of my best friends a copy of briefcase full of blues. I'm so glad to see clips of this epic film. One tiny portion was filmed in front of where I lived when I was kid. That was a really cool thing to experience as an 8 year old. The exit that the good old boys took off the highway was right in front of where I lived. The Canfield road exit off of I 90.
Brilliant movie move start to finish. I just love the brilliant gold light behind Jake when he gets out of the joint. Lol. The First Rated "R" movie my Dad took me to was "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest," And Everyone Can Tell 😊
When o was about 12, I rented this on pirate video in the early 80’s and watched it one Saturday morning, went out to town, bought the soundtrack and hey presto, I’m still loving it to this day. Saw the Blues Brothers band a few times, loved that too.
Best musical ever made. Imo. Great comedy, great music, great actors and John Landis.
Now that’s how you start a movie 🎥😂👌🏻
It really is. You learn everything you need to know about Jake, Ellwood, and the Bluesmobile (the main characters of the movie) in this one quick scene right at the beginning. It jumps right into the plot after that. No wasted time or dialogue or shots. Everything introduced neatly and cleanly in a memorable way that hooks the audience and sets the tone.
There are movies that take half of the runtime to do what they did here in 3 minutes.
Yes sir, this will always be one of my favorite movies of all time. The laughs, the music, the stunts ... definitely in my top ten.
"She caught the Katy
And left me a mule to ride
She caught the Katy
And left me a mule to ride
Now my baby caught the Katy
Left me a mule to ride
The train pulled out, I swung on behind
Crazy 'bout her
That hard headed woman of mine"
one of the greatest movies of all time. a classic!
I’m watching this in the parking lot of the Old Joliet Prison.
NO WAY!!!... BRAVO MY GOOD MAN!!
Did you pick up your bro from the big house?
@@lyleswann6296 I dropped mine off there once…
"car's got a lot of pickup"
3:22 - "It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks...it's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?"
fix the lighter
“cars got alot of pickup” is the best line in this scene hahah
@@mrceleb2006 "Fix the cigarette lighter."
Until everyone starting quoting it the way Elwood casually no expression says the cop this cop that was always my fav dialogue. Favorite scenes not one but I always could relate to Jake and his ex always trying to kill him.
Dad and I always watched this together. So good!
A microphone?
Okay I can see that
Always loved that part
A vintage Shure Green Bullet taxi dispatcher mic. Not a reissue, but the real thing. Best way to get that Chicago blues harp sound.
Bowsette!
@@bitmapman Shure Micropphones- Skokie IL, good stuff- but beyond the budget- hence- gotta got to Calumet City (not gonna vouch for the legality of how they got there though..)
Ackroyd’s breakdown about the cars features is one of the best parts of that scene!
THE MORE I WATCH THIS MOVIE THE BETTER IT GETS
Jake seemed quite impressed after that bridge jump. He did not need convincing twice.
I’m 30 and this was my favorite childhood movie of all times. I didn’t get the SNL reference until years later. I’m so thankful for my mom showing this to me
The fkn hand signals.. yous can't do that now. There's no reason really like..
The level of humour in this one scene lmfao
From what I’ve read in this movie they used CHP cop cars which at the time didn’t have turn signals, so yeah you had to use hand signals
I see motorcyclists use hand signals sometimes but who the hell even knows what they are anymore besides certain ones of us
You do use them if the indicators are out of order. It was on my driving test.
This movie inspired me to get my own chapp car. Black Betty 2010 p71 Crown Vic!!!!!! Love it
I’ve been watching the movie once a year since 1985.
Aussie born in the 80s and same!
After watch de main family movie, on times when cinema used to offer double or triple program, we were leaving...then my father told us to me and my brother: "let's give a chance to this movie that's beginning"... and the rest is history..I never saw my father laughing this way again. And now, 44 years later, I still enjoying this wonderful movie and memory of my dad.
Best opening scene ....perhaps Ever! Especially for any car enthusiast. Thanks for the video.
I f i had a dollar for every times I have watched this I would be on my own island............... my favourite line...
"Its 106 miles to Chicago - we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes - its dark kand we're wearing sunglasses......HIT IT!" THE GREATEST BLUES MOVIE EVER........
John Belushi's expressions, as well as his feelings for the Bluesmobile, mark the beginning of the scene!
WOW, i ain't get tired watching this 4 min scene.
Thanks John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd
Dukes of hazard never jumped a bridge like that. Blues brother's is a classic
This movie was a staple on WGN when the Cubs weren't playing.
Some thing's NEVER GET OLD !!! ROCK ON !!!!!
Movie-making genius. The guards, the car, the suits, the backlighting of jake as the gates open. Good stuff!
This movie had an incredible soundtrack!
Best Chicago movie ever! Got my own Bluesmobile in the garage!
It always gets me when Jake tells Elwood to fix the cigarette lighter after he throws it out the window. It was literally his way of saying yes when Elwood asked him about the car.
I’ll always have a soft spot for Mayor Jane for helping . It Made this film. God Bless , M’am
What about ChicagoFest?
@@jeffberger6162 yeah. Too bad it isn’t like it was in the beginning. Had a friend that played there:)👍👍
@@jeffberger6162Chicagofest was started by Mayor Bilandic.
I'm so lucky that prison is still located in my home. I always see it when I pass by.
Don't go there friend,
Blues brothers won't sing anymore for you 😉
@@samirsan9105 that prison is still located in my home. I always see it when I pass by.; So's Cook County Jail in Chicago, My parents lived in Pilsen, Douglas Park, and Little Village neighborhoods immmdeiately surrounding Cook County Jail. The nuns in parochial school always reminded us that if we didn't behave, we would wind up having to go to graduate from public school kids....in Cook County Jail. They don't sing there either I heard.
One of the greatest openings to a movie ever they don't even have to say anything they just hug that is true brotherhood right truly understanding each other
If I ever go to prison I want this music to play when I get out.
You'll only be hearing banjos...🤦🏻♂️🤣🤣
Taj Mahal amigo one of my favorites in blues
I play it every time I get out of Facebook Jail. Lol
It's got a cop motor.... love it! I have an HO slotcar model of this. California Highway Patrol loved these, able to catch almost anything.
Hands down my favorite movie of all time.
“You traded the Bluesmobile for THIS?”
“No, for a microphone”
“A microphone?……OK, I can see that..,,.”
I love everything about this movie 😂
Wasn't sure what I was expecting when my running buddies and I went to see this but its legendary.
Glad I watched this movie on a whim on Netflix . First couple of minute i was thinking I was gonna hate it until they got to the church then I too saw the light 💡
I was on a business trip to Chicago when the chase scene into the city was being filmed.
“She caught the Katy” refers to the nickname of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad which ran through my small hometown. My brother was an engineer on the Katy until it closed down in the mid-80’s I believe. Great tribute to the blues and an awesome movie…
The most iconic pickup jail scene in movie history
