It was solid work no doubt, but this is also a blatant plot device to cram in a bunch of product tie/promotion tie ins. Nostalgia tinges this movie for most of us, but at the time people were calling them out for such blatant product placement, like we do with any current movie that does it.

It was reconstructed and used as the scene of the chase. Signage belonging to mall tenants was replaced with updated vendors like Toys R Us. The placement was to make the setting look updated and realistic. Product placement isn’t necessarily a bad thing, Honestly who cares if there was a lot of product placement because it was an awesome car chase and the PP didn’t take that fact away.

There’s been a ton of films that I liked as a kid that looking back I was like “ what the hell was I thinking?” And I do understand that something like product placement can be over done. An example is The Island. The product placement was blatant in that movie but there was really no real explanation why. And yeah it’s funny that people act like product placement is a new thing when it’s been going on for a long time, as you said. I remember when Wayne’s World did a whole scene making fun of product placement and that was back in 92 so you’re right, it’s an old game Hollywood likes to play.

It's not that they drive into, around then out of the Mall that makes this scene hilarious but that they do it so calmly while pointing out the different shops as though they were actually visiting.

My father showed me this movie when I was like 8 years old, one of the things that really caught my attention was the size of the cars, man they look so big and gorgeous, it added so much to the car chases, nowadays cars look really bland. Best movie ever btw

Just so enjoyable to watch three cars squealing their wheels, wreck a mall and do donuts in there without any cgi, looking as if it was just like that. This is actually some serious craftsmanship.

If you love that type of music/movie choreography, you'll love Baby Driver. Every single beat of every song in the movie corresponds to an action and many times the themes/words of songs match with what is happening. It's a fantastic film, truly.

I've seen this movie dozens of times, and for some reason I always find it hilarious at 5:24 when the one cop car just deliberately cuts through Pier 1 Imports. Like, they're on a straightaway, both cops were lined up down the line, and the one just makes a bee-line in and out of Pier 1. Not sure why, but that cracks me up.
The thing I remember most about this movie was that it as a kid, it seemed like it was on TBS constantly. I think they showed it every night at 5pm every day from 1989 until 1996.
You are right! I also love how at 2:35 the squeaking of the car tires fits to the playing song. The whole movie just seems like a very long song to me, because I watched it so often, especially in my childhood. If you listen to anything long enough, you are going to hear it as music at some point .
I always like when a movie's relatively simple plot can get out of hand enough to cause as much destruction as something like this, especially when everything is executed so well.

Filmed at the infamous Dixie Square Mall in Harvey, Illinois, which opened in 1966, was only open for 12 years, became one of the most notorious and well-known abandoned buildings on the planet and wasn't finally knocked down until 2012!
The mall itself stood until 2016, when it was finally demolished. I was a part of the Facebook page for Dixie Square mall, and I got a piece of wallpaper from a member before it was demolished!

Yep, the old Dixie Square Mall. Believe it or not they didn't start demolishing it until 2006 or so. It sat there for years.

The stunt coordinator, Gary McLarty, makes a cameo as the guy buying a Grover doll and asking for a Miss Piggy.

Very likely one of the 10 greatest films ever made. This could never be duplicated today. The level of talent in this movie is truly astonishing.

There was never a Toys R Us at the Dixie Square Mall. Originally it had Penny, Montgomery Wards, Turnstyle and Woolworth as anchors.

After 42 years, this movie is still thumbs up, especially the chase scene, & memorable cast.
My father showed me this movie when I was like 8 years old, one of the things that really caught my attention was the size of the cars, man they look so big and gorgeous, it added so much to the car chases, nowadays cars look really bland. Best movie ever btw

the greatest most insane comedy movie ever made. you can't replace belusi and akroyed. This comedy gem will last forever. Especially when you can drive through a shopping mall and really have a grand ol time!! pure gold!
Just so enjoyable to watch three cars squealing their wheels, wreck a mall and do donuts in there without any cgi, looking as if it was just like that. This is actually some serious craftsmanship.
This is a great way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Blues Brothers by enjoying one of these iconic car chases from the movie.

If you love that type of music/movie choreography, you'll love Baby Driver. Every single beat of every song in the movie corresponds to an action and many times the themes/words of songs match with what is happening. It's a fantastic film, truly.

If you watch the DVD version with the deleted scenes, it explaines how the blues mobile gets it's "super powers". Jake parks it under a transformer when they go to his apartment.
I've seen this movie dozens of times, and for some reason I always find it hilarious at 5:24 when the one cop car just deliberately cuts through Pier 1 Imports. Like, they're on a straightaway, both cops were lined up down the line, and the one just makes a bee-line in and out of Pier 1. Not sure why, but that cracks me up.

The thing I remember most about this movie was that it as a kid, it seemed like it was on TBS constantly. I think they showed it every night at 5pm every day from 1989 until 1996.

You are right! I also love how at 2:35 the squeaking of the car tires fits to the playing song. The whole movie just seems like a very long song to me, because I watched it so often, especially in my childhood.
If you listen to anything long enough, you are going to hear it as music at some point .

@@Redbean23 That came from Polk Bros. Record Store, which was originally a yogurt stand of some kind. It was a very odd long and narrow bay compared to most of the other stores.
