The Tacoma is definitely a lot more capable offroad, but if you don’t need quite that much capability the maverick has a ton of other benefits.

Any chance you could get the topper doors to open further? At 5'8" you're having to duck down to access the side compartments, but I guess one could lift the whole truck up a few inches ;)
Hybrid definitely gets better gas mileage. I've gone a month between fills. Seeing 44 mpg frequently around town and it's so smooth and silent.

Do you guys have specs or the new Maverick Tremor (with 1 inch lift) curious what total height will be. And the space between the top of the cab and the bottom of the camper, how big is that space? Thanks been waiting for this

My Mav Hybrid will likely be built as a MY23, and, wow, I am so glad you all are making this! I am also considering an open bed rack with similar height RTT setup, but the protection of this enclosure and being able to stand is compelling. What is the total height of this in closed position installed on the Maverick? 6'10"? I am thinking this may fit in a standard garage door.
It'll fit in virtually any garage, its probably barely over 6' on these bigger tires.

Only problem is that the Tremor has a crap tow rating at 2,000lbs and slightly less payload at 1,300lbs.
is there a weight limit (for people) in the tent area for sitting/sleeping? Is it weight rated for two?
Is that gas mileage you mention what you're observing on that truck with the camper installed? I'm very curious how the extra weight and height affects gas mileage. All in all it looks a very nice package. Roof rack, enclosed bed, and a tent always ready to go.
Also this is going to sound crazy but considering there are those modular floor bits in the tent, is there any testing as far as weight limit for the bedding? Probably less of a concern with the maverick since it looks like less of the roof/floor pops out as some of the other models.
Oh, does this model not have the external ladder like some of the other models?

This is badass. One question. Is there some sort of support in the cushions that can be moved in order to access the top part? I imagine the bottom is solid or has some type of support installed so one would not fall through when laying or standing on that spot
Yes the cushion has a built in honeycomb panel that distributes weight and allows access from inside the truck bed into the sleeping bed
Any strap options to put like a SUP on the top of the pop up tent?
What size tires and wheels did you up grade to? Do you have a 2 inch lift on the Maverick also?
How does this seal up against water with the tent down? I had to return a topper for my maverick because of the amount of water leaking in.
Is the cost going to be a little less than your other toppers since its smaller?

Very little wind noise. Need to test with the stock tires to get real data
Here is a great option. Look at the Ford Maverick camper tent under to TH-cam channel "Gear Gadget Experiments" . Affordable, easy set-up, and easy to take down and put up if you want to drive away. Too many of the fancy truck tents are very expensive- and you can't drive away easily without taking down everything and re-setting up.
Curious about the sides of the camper that open.... Can you lock them shut? Can you lock the camper to the truck? Unfortunately thieves are everywhere.

Hey, I’m curious can you put a rack on top? I’m considering this truck but I need to use it for work too. I do Window Cleaning and I need to put an extension ladder on top or at least be able to put my stackable ladders which are 6 foot each.
Hey you definitely can. When open, the top of the tent can support 75lbs evenly distributed. If you are looking for a more commercial application I would look into our all aluminum extrusion and billet Topper with cabinets.
I'm interested in the tremor package. For a person who wants to add a little bit more camping to their lives do you think that the added cost is justified?
I do primarily highway driving so the hybrid benefits don't really help me.
I also don't feel like I need to tow 4,000 lbs for anything.
I'm looking for that crossover commute to work and camp on the weekends kind of vehicle.
The tremor is definitely nice if your looking to push the off-roading more. The locking rear differential will help give you traction over rutted and rocky roads, and the added lift will help clear a larger tire. If you’re mostly just driving smoother fire roads though, it may not be worth the added expense.
The Termor package is a great deal if your not worried about 4k towing or hybrid

Legit off road option? I have doubts. I also can't take this video serious when they say this kind of thing and then try to compare it to a tacoma. This is in the Ridgeline and Santa Cruz overland category, not Tacoma/Frontier/Ranger. Now don't get me wrong, I am seriously considering this exact set up, but in no way will I expect to do the things even a stock Tacoma/Ranger/Frontier can/could do. This would be my daily driver and groomed FS roads "overland" rig

Both the hybrid and the non-hybrid Mavericks have a 2,000 lb towing capacity.

I personally wouldn't but the FX4 version of the Maverick I'd have someone add a say 2 inch lift and some taller tires. I'm assuming you could do that cheaper then Fords version and better they can.

We recommend Sherpa racks since they make some designed specifically for use with GFC.
Explaining that this rig costs as much as a new Tacoma really makes the Tacoma look like a good value, when you consider that for the cost of the camper , you've downgraded to a ford sedan

Eco boost engines are notorious for having major problems starting around 40,000 miles.
Would be a cool truck if Ford started making decent engines again.

So I can take my truck camping and sleep in a tent on the ground, or for an extra $8,000 (plus worse gas mileage and extra wear/tear on truck) sleep in a tent on top of my truck. What am I missing?
A quality topper/cap will run you at least 4k, and nothing is as nice as ours full stop. That alone is a huge part of it. So for an extra 3300 we have a full pop top camping portion with a panelized floor that’s built from burly UV stable extrusions, composite honeycomb and machined parts. It’s a lot more and a lot different than a ground tent in an open truck bed. It actually makes the maverick work better as a truck since you can haul real stuff on top of the camper. But there’s nothing wrong with a ground tent, and if that’s what your budget tells ya that’s definitely the way to go 🤝
Ah, the ground tent verses rooftop tent debate... never gets old.

No argument there. Do what you thinks best for you. Simplicity is what makes this a great option for some. As I age I’d prefer not to sleep on the ground unless I’m backpacking.
