He's right, watching Will Smith and Jack Black in the recording sessions for Shark Tale is more fun than watching the movie Shark Tale. That is a real low point for a movie.
Not really. Behind the scenes stuff when actors are having fun and just goofing is usually a high point. It’s usually not THE high point. It’s normally just a fun distraction after you watch the movie. So when this movie set the bar that low that the outtakes were the best part... well... we’re really Santa clause 3 the escape clause-ing it up in here.
I can agree the film was just plain terrible. DreamWorks and Disney don't need to copy each other just to be popular. The same goes for other creators out there. It is good just as long you make it original. No more of these obvious clichés. Pixar on the other hand makes good original content. So why does DreamWorks keep making B-movies? Why can't DreamWorks just make more good movies like Shrek and Kung Fu Panda?

Thankfully Black Jack and Angelina Jolie were given a second chance and became Po and Tigress from Kung Fu Panda. A movie that is superior by like a million times.

Dougs old videos are.... not like his new ones. His first video is literally a bum review. His first few regular reviews on stuff like space jam, the Mario movie or Batman and robin are like 5-10 minutes long and miss a lot of the movie. Seeing him re-review stuff from his first few seasons would be genuinely interesting. Perhaps he could do a month where he picks his four favorite reviews from the first four seasons and re-reviews them.

“I have ‘Kung Fu Panda’ coming up to here.” You know, the directors of “Shark Tale” told Jack Black that they were going to make “Kung Fu Panda”, so that he can have a movie where his character is the main protagonist. Angelina Jolie was also recast for the film, because they asked him which actor from the previous movie he wanted to be recast along with him.
@@100lovenana Yep! That’s why it’s my most favorite movie. Well, there’s other reasons: 1. It got me fascinated with marine life, (it’s like “Zootopia” with aquatic animals). 2. It also had Will Smith in it, (who I liked since his role as the genie in the “Aladdin” remake).
A Mcguffin pearl, an all or nothing horse race, a mob boss and the complex relationship with his son. This film sure does outline like a Scorsese or Tarantino script.

Not that odd when you consider the personalities of both characters are extremely similar. Seems like whenever Chris Rock or Will Smith wind up in something animated they're typecast into similar roles. A shame as both are amazingly talented when not being typecast.
I wouldn’t say Osmosis Jones is anything like Oscar, Jones is actually likeable and trying to be a good person because he feels like he’s been wrongfully written off due to the oysters incident (which Jones was totally justified in doing what he did) whilst Oscar just wants to be rich and famous for the sake of feeding his own ego
@@mrcritical6751 that is completely true. But I would counter argue that they're more similar than you think. They're both fairly high energy and loud, both like to act like they're the coolest guy in the room, and both are impulsive, often running headfirst into situations without thinking. But those similarities highlight why Jones is a better written character than Oscar. Everything you mentioned already makes Jones more likable. And to add to it Jones is a more humble character despite his loud personality. He's at least willing to let someone else outshine him for the greater good (albeit not always liking it) and you do get a sense that while he does care a great deal about his image, doing right comes first. He's also immediate to try and act to fix the messes he causes. Whereas Oscar is a purely selfish character who makes his own messes and then cries about them. Long winded point is, Osmosis Jones is how you make a loud, colorful, somewhat obnoxious character interesting and likable, and Shark Tale is how you make people like literally every character BUT the protagonist.
@@mrcritical6751 There was a hinted on the fact that Oscar could have likable moments. In the movie he looked up to his dad despite his job being a lower-class profession. He was socially scarred by his class for it and it fueled his ego since. There were even moments he hesitated to take Angie's pearl because it meant so much to her and tried to resist betting the money (though was poor on the latter) too bad Oscar isn't the only thing that made this movie not age well.

This movie really banked on its star power, I know a large magority of Dreamworks movies have a lot of big name actors in their casts but this one really goes for its all-star cast to sell the movie.
I still don’t understand how, in 2004, this got nominated for best animated feature. To give you an idea of how stupid that is, the polar express and the spongebob movie weren’t even nominated and the winner that year was the incredibles

My elementary school played the fuck out of Finding Nemo. So much so, that every kid on campus could quote that movie word for word. We hated it by the end, but at least it was a good movie.
I haven't seen the film, I have a DVD of the tv show based on the movie, which I didn't watch but want to, but me, being stupid, thought it was a DVD for the film itself and looked it up and I agree, this would have traumatised 4 year old me. (It's fine. I wasn't planning on sleeping anyway....)

The original title for the movie was "Sharkslayer", but it was changed to "Shark Tale" about a year before release, because Jeffrey Katzenberg thought the title might scare families away (the title still appears in some early promotional material). The change is clear in the movie, as in the song before the credits, the singers interlock between calling the movie "Sharkslayer" and "Shark Tale".
Idk if it's sad or sad but I owned a localised copy of this movie. And the worst part is enjoying it. I legitimately enjoyed it. And get this: I also owned the game. My childhood was pathetic lol.
In his review of the film, The Mysterious Mr. Enter jokingly suggested that *Sykes was fully aware* of Oscar's deception. Because Oscar's get-rich-quick schemes *are the reason* Sykes is in debt to Don Lino to begin with, becoming Oscar's manager and threatening Lino in his name could be *seen as an elaborate revenge plot to make Oscar a target of the sharks.*

He seems to know the rules of animation a lot and what works and what doesn't. I don't agree with all of his opinions his reviews are alright. He isn't really that bad, at least not anymore.

Oh yeah that is one thing about the international dubs. Sometimes they can just turn a bad movie the completely other way around. I mean I never wached Shark tale but I can say the same thing about the Danish dub of the Polar Express. Like the people doing the translation did a great job. The performances and dialogue were miles better than the Original in english, especially in the first half! Like they actually made the conductor not creepy!

I remember loving this movie when I was younger. Actually most of my family and friends did, but I think that's b/c it was rare to see animated movies with as many black elements in them at the time. The characters looked totally fine to me (still do), Will Smith is always a treat (at least back then he was😅), and it was the first animation I saw as a kid (besides the Proud Family) that had alot of familiar black centric music in it. I know it didn't do so well, but this is actually the first time I've ever even heard people were creeped out by it lol.🤣 It's kind of a gem in my childhood.

But those similarities highlight why Jones is a better written character than Oscar. Everything you mentioned already makes Jones more likable. And to add to it Jones is a more humble character despite his loud personality. He's at least willing to let someone else outshine him for the greater good (albeit not always liking it) and you do get a sense that while he does care a great deal about his image, doing right comes first. He's also immediate to try and act to fix the messes he causes. Whereas Oscar is a purely selfish character who makes his own messes and then cries about them.
Long winded point is, Osmosis Jones is how you make a loud, colorful, somewhat obnoxious character interesting and likable, and Shark Tale is how you make people like literally every character BUT the protagonist.
Will Smith was going to voice Osmosis but turned it down in favor of Men in Black 2.
@@mrcritical6751 There was a hinted on the fact that Oscar could have likable moments. In the movie he looked up to his dad despite his job being a lower-class profession. He was socially scarred by his class for it and it fueled his ego since. There were even moments he hesitated to take Angie's pearl because it meant so much to her and tried to resist betting the money (though was poor on the latter) too bad Oscar isn't the only thing that made this movie not age well.

Oh yeah that is one thing about the international dubs. Sometimes they can just turn a bad movie the completely other way around. I mean I never wached Shark tale but I can say the same thing about the Danish dub of the Polar Express. Like the people doing the translation did a great job. The performances and dialogue were miles better than the Original in english, especially in the first half! Like they actually made the conductor not creepy!

I remember loving this movie when I was younger. Actually most of my family and friends did, but I think that's b/c it was rare to see animated movies with as many black elements in them at the time. The characters looked totally fine to me (still do), Will Smith is always a treat (at least back then he was😅), and it was the first animation I saw as a kid (besides the Proud Family) that had alot of familiar black centric music in it. I know it didn't do so well, but this is actually the first time I've ever even heard people were creeped out by it lol.🤣 It's kind of a gem in my childhood.
