I don't know why they ever try to turn a popular movie into a TV series. Is there a time where that has ever worked? They made a TV series out of Uncle Buck and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I feel like getting the parents back together just destroyed any chance of Kevin having any character development. It’s basic like Caillou where he whines a lot and the parents just give into his demands.
And there were rarely any other traps, in fact I think I remember someone saying that the house is a trap. I remember only two traps, the power washer shower and the secret door swivel spinning fast.
I used to say: Home Alone: The boy is home alone. Home Alone 2: The boy is not home, but alone. Home Alone 3: The boy is home, but not alone. Home Alone 4: The boy is neither home or alone.
The first one ended with the line “KEVIN, WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY ROOM?!?” The second one ended with “KEVIN, YOU SPENT 936 DOLLARS ON ROOM SERVICE?!?!?” I’m surprised the final line in this movie wasn’t “KEVIN, YOU AGREED TO STAR IN SEVEN MORE HOME ALONE MOVIES?!?!?!?”
I giggled myself when Marv introduced Kevin to Vera like they were old friends. The idea of Molly being Marv's mom opens interesting possibilities. Did she know Harry? Did they grow up together? Did she unofficially adopt Marv's best friend and got them both into a life of crime?
Not the biggest leap of faith asked since the original took place in the early nineties and this sequel to 2 apparently has a smart house in it. How does that work?

Literally, it was Marv’s fault every single time, in home alone 2, Marv told Kevin their plan, so Kevin knew what they were doing and could subsequently stop them

I love the plot twist where Kevin's actually gone insane and started hallicinating Marv wherever he goes. Really took the movie's subtext to another level. My favorite part was when the maid started treating Kevin as the son she never had and he's so unprepared for that kind of outpouring that he convinces himself she can't really love him and that she's in cahoots with "Marv."
Wait, Critic....did you seriously not rip them a new ass for costuming "Marv" in Harry's signature clothes????!! That was the most enraging thing ever.
When you said that kid was supposed to be Kevin McCallister, I thought you were joking. I can’t believe they’d think that the audience would buy that these are the same characters.
According to IMDB, the producers had hoped this movie would lead to a Home Alone TV series. And how the Hell would that have worked exactly? Was it just going to be a stupid sitcom about the McCallisters? You can’t make a show out of this.
Either that or the show was gonna be about Kevin being left alone at the house everyday with Prescott and the two of them thwarting criminals who try to break into the house
especially with the ending, they left Natalie's house so Natalie's smart house couldn't have been the setting of the show unless like, what would she be back occasionally as the vengeful, millionaire ex?
Guessing any series would have just turned Kevin into a Dennis the Menace or Bart Simpson-type figure who goes around getting himself in trouble each episode, and wouldn't really have had much connection to the Home Alone series beyond using the name to try and pull in viewers who liked the movies.
@@jasonw7476 Returns just should've been a remake rather than a sequel. But a remake wasn't what we wanted anyway. It was more of a rehash of the 1978 original as well. It should've had more action as well, which the cancelled sequel would've had. It also would've had Brainiac or Bizarro as well, which is a shame because we're still waiting on them.
@@RYMAN1321 Superman Lives should have been made instead. This alternate universe where it was cancelled sucks. We never got prime Nic Cage as Superman, and his obvious success later as US President Nicolas Coppola.
Fun Fact: They got Marv and Harry switched up in this movie. Harry was the short bandit with the golden tooth and Marv was the bandit with an afro and beard. In this movie, the main bandit supposed to be Marv but, he looks exactly like Harry! Some people could easily miss that.
And also harry has the McAllister m logo when he got branded in the 1st movie on the door knob and the sequel we still see that branded M McAllister door knob logo Still there.
Okay, this must have been a reboot. Kevin would NOT be this young and he would have definitely learned all his lessons about getting along with his family by now.

Nathalie even is nice at first to Kevin. She changes this a bit only after he floods her house with water. An understandable change. And after Kate and Peter tell in front of her about their happy mariage isnt making anything good. Peter is an asshole at the end of the movie and the whole Maccallisters too. After the second movie Kevin should remember what it feels for a woman losing the man she loves. He should at least have tried to comfort Nathalie a bit.

the problem was the smart house alienated her from knowing how to be maternal then made fun of kevin for his parents separating... lazy worldbuilding on an already stale trope of evil stepmom
The same can be said for splitting up Kevin's parents just to bring them back together in a contrived way. Why split them up all? What is Hollywood's weird fascination with estranged couples anyway?

So you're reviewing TV / DVD movies now, not just theatrical ones? I suggest you talk about _Garfield Gets Real_ (2007) and its sequels. I like them better than the live-action Garfield movies, because there's no product placement, and Jim Davis wrote the scripts.
8:07-8:14 Ok, despite how predictable the twist is, I will give the film credit that this part is a really good bit of foreshadowing, as Harry later reveals Molly is his mom.
What gets me the most about French Stewart playing marv is that it would've been easier to pretend that he's harry instead. Stewart has a closer body type to him, and a closer face as well. He doesnt even have the bushy haircut that Marv has.
I recently rewatched this old childhood favourite of mine and I must say despite her role as the 'evil' stepmother, I feel Natalie is dealt such harsh cards in the final minutes of the film when she's been nowhere near as mean as they want you to think her as being. She only says that stuff to Kevin on Christmas Eve because at that point Kevin had no proof and he did flood the house and ruin an important party to be fair. On a side note Vera and this incarnation of Marv could rob my house any day of the week, they're so adorkable!

Fun fact, apparently Daniel Stern was offered to return but he turned it down knowing it'd be garbage. Joe Pesci I believe retired from live-action acting at the time this movie was being made, so he was also a no go. Both dodged a bullet if you ask me. To be fair, Marv might have a Wolverine style Healing Factor. He somehow survived mostly unmarked through various painful injuries in the first two movies, injuries that should have crippled if not killed him.

@HQ I agree so much. Part 5 was trying to be its own thing but it still feels like it tried to be a Home Alone movie, and it really did try. This one felt so lazy and cheap, the actors don't even resemble the original characters from the first two. It just felt like it was thrown together just cause.
It's so funny that they cast him as Marv, when it was clearly Harry that he was supposed to be playing. At least that's what I'm inferring based on the costume choice. One of the least difficult things to mess up and they mess it up
They even asked Daniel Stern if he was interested in reprising his role as Marv, so why they basically turned Marv into Harry's character makes it even more confusing
My best guess is that the people who made this movie forgot which one was named Harry and which one was named Marv and saw Marv and said "Hey, he has big hair he must be Harry". That or they were lazy and couldn't come up with a name, so they randomly through on one of the names of the previous bad guys for him.

I think this sequel is about a different family that just happen to have the same names. The fact that Kevin's other siblings Linnie and Jeff are absent helps support this.
@@travelwell6049 I consider it to be a parallel universe from the other three movies, where the events of the first movie happened (obviously with different versions of the characters) and Lost in New York and 3 didn't happen. So it is weird.. we are pretty much missing a movie (where this version of Kevin defended his version of the McAllister house from Harry and French Stewart's Marv.)
@@0816M3RC To add to that, I believe that Harry, in between the events of this universe's 1st movie and this one that Harry didn't escape prison, and so this universe's Marv carries his signature clothes in a sort of memorial-type thing.
I will say that this new Marv channels the character surprisingly well (at least in the footage used in this review). He doesn't look anything like him, but the mannerisms are there. It really feels like the actor put in a lot of effort, which is kinda sad because this film doesn't deserve it at all. The bit where he introduces Kevin was pretty hilarious, though.
The funny thing about Marv calling Kevin by name is that, until Plopnut yelled out to Kevin at the end of 2, Harry & Marv never knew his first name, only his last name Even if that weren’t the case, and they never learned Kevin’s name, I bet they’d still have that back & forth

I saw the first Home Alone, Home Alone 2 and 3. Never saw this one. And I just love how it's the McCallister family but different actors. Marv is no longer Daniel Stern but French Stewart. French Stewart was also in the TV sitcom 3rd Rock From the Sun. Anyone remember that? As for Home Alone: The Holiday Heist, Malcolm McDowell was in that movie. That's all I know about it.

I read that Daniel Stern was asked to reprise his role for this movie. Daniel Stern refused, because he thought this film was an insult to the original Home Alone movie. I believe they may have also asked Joe Pesci (I remember a while back reading that they also asked him) to reprise his role and he refused. Joe Pesci already retired from acting three years prior to this film's debut, but I'm sure Joe thought the same as Daniel if he was offered to reprise Harry.
Based on the way the actors for Kevin and Marv looked in this film, I'm thoroughly convinced this film had different names for the characters before they named after the ones in the first two films.
Considering the fact that apparently a decade of technological development vanished between 4 and 2 I'd believe this was meant to be a different film and they went "screw it slap on Home Alone"

especially with the ending, they left Natalie's house so Natalie's smart house couldn't have been the setting of the show unless like, what would she be back occasionally as the vengeful, millionaire ex?
Guessing any series would have just turned Kevin into a Dennis the Menace or Bart Simpson-type figure who goes around getting himself in trouble each episode, and wouldn't really have had much connection to the Home Alone series beyond using the name to try and pull in viewers who liked the movies.

Nathalie even is nice at first to Kevin. She changes this a bit only after he floods her house with water. An understandable change. And after Kate and Peter tell in front of her about their happy mariage isnt making anything good. Peter is an asshole at the end of the movie and the whole Maccallisters too. After the second movie Kevin should remember what it feels for a woman losing the man she loves. He should at least have tried to comfort Nathalie a bit.

What gets me the most about French Stewart playing marv is that it would've been easier to pretend that he's harry instead. Stewart has a closer body type to him, and a closer face as well. He doesnt even have the bushy haircut that Marv has.

I recently rewatched this old childhood favourite of mine and I must say despite her role as the 'evil' stepmother, I feel Natalie is dealt such harsh cards in the final minutes of the film when she's been nowhere near as mean as they want you to think her as being. She only says that stuff to Kevin on Christmas Eve because at that point Kevin had no proof and he did flood the house and ruin an important party to be fair.
On a side note Vera and this incarnation of Marv could rob my house any day of the week, they're so adorkable!

I will say that this new Marv channels the character surprisingly well (at least in the footage used in this review). He doesn't look anything like him, but the mannerisms are there. It really feels like the actor put in a lot of effort, which is kinda sad because this film doesn't deserve it at all.
The bit where he introduces Kevin was pretty hilarious, though.

I saw the first Home Alone, Home Alone 2 and 3. Never saw this one. And I just love how it's the McCallister family but different actors. Marv is no longer Daniel Stern but French Stewart. French Stewart was also in the TV sitcom 3rd Rock From the Sun. Anyone remember that? As for Home Alone: The Holiday Heist, Malcolm McDowell was in that movie. That's all I know about it.

Joe Pesci already retired from acting three years prior to this film's debut, but I'm sure Joe thought the same as Daniel if he was offered to reprise Harry.
