    I switched to wet shaving after watching one of Kirby's videos and it has now developed into a bit of a hobby. I think one important thing to mention is that you can experiment a lot with various wet shaving products. Taylor of Old Bond Street for example has quite a variety of products. There are also many blade manufacturers as well.

    I use a open comb Gilette double edge razor from my Grandpa. It's arround 50 years old...... oh wait I am 50 so it is 60 years old or more.
    The badger brush might be expensive but I have mine for 20 years now. So the price is relative.

    I have been single blade shaving for several years and recently bought a OneBlade razor, which uses a special Feather single edge blade. The unique aspect is a pivoting head - so one gets the ease of use of a cartridge style razors with the superiority of a single blade. Feather blades are so sharp that shaving with them can be a challenge with a conventional safety razor. The OneBlade design virtually eliminates nicks and cuts. Also, have moved from a simple bowl to a scuttle. The increased warmth of the lather is a definite plus.

    Great video, I started to enjoy classic shaving 4 years ago and it’s really great for those who complains about bad multi edged razors and foams. Glad it is becoming more and more popular thanks to people like you !
    Only tip I could give, you should avoid using an alun stone , it is apparently bad for your skin.
    Instead, if the cuts are not too bad, just use cold water (as cold as possible depending on your skin tolerance) before your after shave, it works just fine for me.
    Some people will even use a mix of red and green clay, but I don’t use this technique.

    • @waldi2302
      @waldi2302 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is my advice for small cuts too. In my case it stops bleeding verry fast.

    • @dappershaves
      @dappershaves 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      agreed, multi blade systems and foams are not great and nothing beats a proper wetshave, especially with a straight razor.
      interesting feedback about alum, I agree that alum will dry out your skin if used in isolation with any other post shave. That said alum is definitely NOT bad for your skin and whilst cold water with stop nicks, cut on facial skin will bleed a lot and water alone will not help, alum in particular work well. Moreover alum is healthy and safe alternative too anti-perspirant/deodorants. definitely not bad for your skin, regards dapper shaves

    • @dappershaves
      @dappershaves 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      wonderful feedback Stephen. I’ve found shavette or straight razors to the best and consistent results especially for African and mediterranean gents. Before a shave lift any ingrown hairs with a medical pricking needle from the skin and then complete the shave. It’s important to shave regularly and nourish the skin properly. Very coarse beard will benefit from a stiffer blade preferably with a belly. Im not African but have very sensitive skin with extremely thin and curly hairs that wants to grown in so I have a understanding for some of the challenges. Since I’ve switched to a straight razor ALL my skin and beard problem have disappeared. More impoI dont get any ingrown any more and my skin is soft and beautiful, at least to me. I have some videos and education out if interested, regards dapper shaves

    Hi Kirby! Great video! Thank you! I was wondering if you had any tips for those having extra sensitive skin?

    • @dappershaves
      @dappershaves 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Skin preparation and post shave activities are critical, if the skin is not healthy or well prepared the impact especially on sensitive skin can be disastrous. If you dont already learn to face lather, quality soap makes a difference, lather must be properly hydrated. smooth rather than sharp blades will further make a difference. shallow blade/skin angle and light pressure are the other basic. I have thin, curly hairs with and very sensitive skin and shave daily. I have some vids out, regards dapper shaves

      In many parts of his face, he's shaving "against the grain," or against the way the hair grows on your face. Try shaving with the grain to get your face used to wet shaving and see if it helps. You won't get as close of a shave, but it will be more comfortable as you're getting used to it. If you let your beard grow out a bit, you'll see the direction the hair on the different areas of your face grows.

    Some nasty looking nicks in that shave. They really should be the exception not the rule. Are you using a blade that works for you? Took me a while to find the right one for me.

    I love watching your insights into how a proper gentleman should dress and behave, but the shaving with a tie, jus doesn’t make sense. I understand you are trying to keep the same theme of being a gentleman throughout the video but it’s just not realistic. Other than that great video.
