You Aussie mates are a riot to listen to. You blokes arent dill. You certainly give a mate a fair go and are fair dinkum. So now I will tackle my seal cleaning without getting my grundies in a freckle.
A quick tip for seeing if it's leaking after the fix. I use this in plumbing, or any situation where you need to find the smallest bit of fluid. Use a DRY piece of white toilet paper to rub the item. If there is the slightest bit of fluid, it will show up easily. Great video through!
Just watched this and thought to myself, I could do that with a feelers guage, done it with a .18mm guage, made sure I kept the deep end further forward at all times, went round gently 3 times in each direction, it was pissing out before, and now is perfect!!! Kawasaki klr650c. Thanks for the tip, never had any idea about repairing a fork seal before today!
just tried this on my honda cb500 2013 work bike the right side fork leg was weeping slightly saw this video then saw a comment from Kenneth McCullough about useing feeler gauge worked a treat thanks guys
Going to do my 2014 FZ1 this Saturday. I wanted to watch someone besides the inventors do it to see how it works. Thanks for posting this -- I'm pretty excited now that this will work. My bike is much newer and leaks much less than the one you did and yours worked great. (I bought the sealmate tool. I know I could make one, but it is such a cool idea and is going to save me a BUNCH of aggravation changing seals so I am happy to send the inventors a couple bucks.)
wow this actually worked, saved my son a small fortune on garage bills (got some stupid quotes!) I was a bit reluctant at first especially as it is after just a thin piece of plastic and they're asking a few bucks for it! - I've seen TH-cam vlogs of folk making their own which is a route I almost took but in retrospect I'm glad a bought one as cutting a plastic template might well leave some sharp edges?! and ya don't want to be using that when sticking something between a rubber gasket/seal & a steel fork (the tolerences are pretty unforgiving)
That's excellent! I bought one of those seal savers last year to fix a leak in my XR250R, a bike I bought used to play around off-road with and have some fun fixing up, and man it had a lot of gunk in it. I had to do the whole process about ten times, but then it stopped leaking, and hasn't leaked since. That is a great product and a great easy fix for sure!
How ja doing ? good link mate just fell over this by chance, and ja it works ,i have a old thunderbird 900 and the forks were weeping, so i cut the top of a plastic box ,made a shape like a orange peeler and it works top job mate. all the best from Denmark
Whilst you've got those forks out I'm assuming you are changing the oil? I'd bet it's well overdue for changing and given that one's clearly been leaking for a while it's probably a little bit low in that leg.
i used it , got me through another 6 months before they started leaking again , and i have just changed them now hahaaha SO WILL SAY IT DOES WORK! unless your seals are completely screwed!
Great video mate! I know this video is a couple years old but I wish I'd have known about this last week when I paid £90 to have mine resealed. Only had them done a year before too. Thanks to you I'll know for next time.
I got a Blue one. I saw a video with an Orange one. Is there any difference between a Red, Orange or Blue one? If No than why do they make them in 3 colors? Has anyone put some leak sealant additive in their fork to prevent oil leakage? Hey if the additive prevents engine oil leaks why wouldn't it work on fork leaks?
Excellent demo Mark. I have seen Sealmates and wondered if they worked. Now I know! If my new DR "Dusty" springs a leak i'll know what to do! Thanks and Keep On Keeping On!
A bit of 35mm film negative will work as well. Ask Grandpa for some negatives. The film canisters are good to keep a bit of grease in or spare bulbs for the road.
does this work on inverted sportbike seals? namely a 2005 CBR600rr? mine are leaking fml...i just bought the bike and bugger me i didn't think to check the fork seals! not a huge deal as they're only about $250(CAD) to get fixed at a shop but still a pissoff! thanks!
If this does really work , I wonder how many shady shops bring in bikes to install new seals and then use it instead and then charge the owners full price for parts & labor . I bet it happens a lot if this thing actually works . If it does work , it would pay off for all owners to have one . Eventually when the seals actually do wear out and the tool no longer helps , then have the repair done or do it yourself if mechanically skilled to do it . A person could probably make a working one out of milk jug plastic I bet . It's a pretty simple thing . Good Video , Thanks
I bought the Seal Mate after watching you video and had great hopes of it working . The plastic seal mate was too flimsy too get into the seal , it just bent and distorted until it was ruined. I have an 87 FXRS with never leak seals , maybe they're too stiff.
if you spot misting leaks remove forks roll them on flat surface make sure they are not bent then inspect for scoring scratches pit remove dust seal and seals hang the forks upside down leave for a bit grab a coffee then add the correct amount of oil fit seals replace forks you can do just the leaking fork if the oils been changed recently. you have already done the hardest part getting the fork out
Hi mate, thats brill, i've just replaced my bloody seals on my old kawasaki and polished the fork legs, they look mint now, but i'll be getting some of that Seal Mate to stick in the tool box, cheers Mark keep up the good work, keep it rubber side up..👍👍🍺🏍
What will work better a plastic milk bottle or a soda bottle? My CRF250L front fork is leaking badly. I'd like to try this myself before trying a seal replacement.
Ended up using a plastic milk bottle. It is rather soft but still managed to get in up and in behind the seal. I ended up doing the other seal as well. Strange thing was I found the one not leaking to be the easier seal to get up in behind and it leaked more than the leaky one when I moved the scrapper all the way around. Guessing the leaking one is just about out of oil. :O Still, a neat little tool. Great idea. Worked great.
I am changing my fork oil with new oil. My manual says 10w20 but I can't seem to find that anywhere? This is the last thing I need before I put my forks all back on my bike. Anyone have any suggestions?
@@BikerBits It's been leaking for a while I think. I noticed a little oil on my floor -- too clean and too far forward to be engine oil. is there anywhere other than the seal a fork might leak? Thanks again for the vid.
Bought a blue one of those, but didn't get around to using it as the mechanic fixed it for me during a service! But maybe next time the seal gets dirty I'll actually pull it out and use it first to see if it stops the leak. Ride safe buddy
Thats awesome it worked but $13??? Haha man that's a crazy mark up. That company must be doing very very well lol. That thing should cost $1.99 at the most. And that's still a huge margin. Use a Coke bottle or 35mm film
G'day Mate, what about giving the poor dog some flea powder at the same time, maybe even try the Seal Mate on your little mate - good video though digger!!!!! Oh, by the way viewers do NOT use 35mm film as many people recommend because a small piece may chip off and visit your oil - then you are in deep doo-doo's. Aussie sites have them for less than $10 delivered free, if you must make one then use the side of ordinary plastic milk carton (brand does not matter - but go for Aussie made anyway hehe).!
BS Obviously you have never used one or changed a fork seal. If I changed everytime my bikes weeped a little. I'd spend a fortune on seals and oil. Not to mention that it takes 2 minutes to do this with a cut out milk jug. Jeez
You're watching this video to find out how to use the seal mate so you don't waste time replacing seals, then suggest people waste time replacing their seals... You deserve a special trophy 👍

Plumber friend of mine uses blue shop towels (paper), very easy to see as the blue towel will darken when wet

Kawasaki klr650c.
Thanks for the tip, never had any idea about repairing a fork seal before today!
nice one Kenneth tried it with a 20 gauge worked a treat...

used that exact device numerous times. always had good luck with it. most excellent product.
Great stuff mate! :-)

Purchased a seal mate and followed this video. Seems to have fixed the leaks...Well chuffed, thanks.👍
Great tool. Ive used mine a few times. Works a treat.

Cool tool here in the states we get free stickers to put on our race bikes we dont race and use the shiny non stick backing to clean our seals mate
Whilst you've got those forks out I'm assuming you are changing the oil? I'd bet it's well overdue for changing and given that one's clearly been leaking for a while it's probably a little bit low in that leg.
Yep will definitely be doing that! :-)
Biker Bits put new dust seal to alldone
Good suggestion
Hello Mark, well done and as usual funny and informative.....Bloody good on ya mate! Keep cool.....
Thanks David :-)
i used it , got me through another 6 months before they started leaking again , and i have just changed them now hahaaha
SO WILL SAY IT DOES WORK! unless your seals are completely screwed!
Thanks exactly right mate! :-)
I just LOVE Wilson in the background
Thought i was the o ly one who notived this 😂
just tried this out....seems to work ! thanks for the video!!

Classic cycle connection: Yeah go ahead and use that 50-year-old, thin piece of plastic that's going to tear off and get stuck inside the shock 🙄
Brilliant job
Thanks for the demo

Not Sure... look on the sealmate website.
The method works perfect. I just fixed my Kawasaki 1400GTR with a piece that I cut from a plastic plate mat.
Just done mine with a .18mm feelers guage.
If this does really work , I wonder how many shady shops bring in bikes to install new seals and then use it instead and then charge the owners full price for parts & labor . I bet it happens a lot if this thing actually works . If it does work , it would pay off for all owners to have one . Did mine earlier looks good hopefully fixed it
Very nice; i've already seen many a positive review about the seal mate. Saved yourself a pretty penny I might add!
Sure did! Thanks :-)
Not easy when in the bike though, found it better to take them out, but that is me.
9:52 I'll be bloddy duggered... 🤣🤣🤣
I bought the Seal Mate after watching you video and had great hopes of it working . The plastic seal mate was too flimsy too get into the seal , it just bent and distorted until it was ruined. I have an 87 FXRS with never leak seals , maybe they're too stiff.
Finesse it in there, don't be such a brute about it, I made one from a flimsy water jug and have used it over 10 times
If they are never leak seals why are they leaking?
if you spot misting leaks remove forks roll them on flat surface make sure they are not bent then inspect for scoring scratches pit remove dust seal and seals hang the forks upside down leave for a bit grab a coffee then add the correct amount of oil fit seals replace forks you can do just the leaking fork if the oils been changed recently. you have already done the hardest part getting the fork out
As you have the fork out of the bike, and you're going to change the oil, you may as well replace the seal in my opinion.
Hi mate, thats brill, i've just replaced my bloody seals on my old kawasaki and polished the fork legs, they look mint now, but i'll be getting some of that Seal Mate to stick in the tool box, cheers Mark keep up the good work, keep it rubber side up..👍👍🍺🏍
I made my own seal cleaner tool by cutting up a soda bottle. It worked perfectly well, and I only had to buy a soda.
I was thinking the same thing. Like a milk jug lol
What will work better a plastic milk bottle or a soda bottle? My CRF250L front fork is leaking badly. I'd like to try this myself before trying a seal replacement.

i am using a Milkjug... Soda in Plastics? funny
what about the fluids its loss?
Probably lost just a little
No big deal .......
I just cut a plastic soda bottle to that shape and it worked just fine 😊
what kind of spray cleaner u are using?
Contact cleaner!
Great job mate it's good to no something new out there .keep up the great work and entertainment your doing cheer Colin
Thanks heaps mate! :-)
I am changing my fork oil with new oil. My manual says 10w20 but I can't seem to find that anywhere? This is the last thing I need before I put my forks all back on my bike. Anyone have any suggestions?
Gonna give it a go mate!! Love the accent... Andrew in Cornwall.. Myttan Dha
Been using a small piece of "mylar" film to do this for years. Sealmate seems to be even better, easier to use for sure.
Great stuff mate! :-)
I cut my own from the side of a plastic quart milk jug. Does the trick.
Awesome Vid Bud! Ill giver" a try on my 99 gixxer !
I have changed fork seal and it is leaking a little again... Why??
I just bought one, hope it works as good for me.
It doesn’t work bud. It might if seal rubber ain’t cracked
Aga Murtuza
It works so far for me, No more leak.
If my bike is leaking fork oil, shouldn't I replace the oil lost? Thanks for the vid.
If it’s a small leak which in most cases it is you’re only looking at a tiny tiny lose!
@@BikerBits It's been leaking for a while I think. I noticed a little oil on my floor -- too clean and too far forward to be engine oil. is there anywhere other than the seal a fork might leak? Thanks again for the vid.
I’m not a mechanic but if the seal is leaking you see and feel the oil on the chrome part of the shock and or dribbling down the fork.
Thumbs up for the doggie 👍🏽
awesome mate gunna try that! Cheers for a great review!
Im definitely gonna give it a go, thanks for that!
Bought a blue one of those, but didn't get around to using it as the mechanic fixed it for me during a service! But maybe next time the seal gets dirty I'll actually pull it out and use it first to see if it stops the leak. Ride safe buddy
Definitely worth a shot... you can’t wreck an already stuffed seal! :-)
cool beans mark! thats brilliant something new learned everyday
Good Onya mate! :-)
What is the thickness of this product?
Don't know!
It's about as thick as a feeler gauge, but not quite as thick as a thick feeler gauge. Jeeeez...
old 35mm film negative works as a good seal cleaner also
Thanks very useful information
well done and great money saver.👍😎
Thanks mate and yeah sure did save some money! :-)
geee youre good at that mate
That’s got to be worth a go for that price 👍🏼
Cut up a plastic coke bottle and make a seal mate for free. Tried it last year in norway and it works perfectly
very true!
Grasias por El video no me ajusta El presupuesto para taller de nuebos retenes
nice infoemation may you live long
Another job well done!
Thanks heaps mate! :-)
Much better bare back than with the rubber dude !!!
Fair enough! :-)
leave a little oil on it and works a lot easier.
Excellent...thank you
@8:36 reminds me of a Benny hill bit
Nice one well done.
Cool video thanks!
Thanks mate. I feel better about the $13 I spent.
Great vid!
Thats awesome it worked but $13??? Haha man that's a crazy mark up. That company must be doing very very well lol. That thing should cost $1.99 at the most. And that's still a huge margin. Use a Coke bottle or 35mm film
Bloody Brilliant
It sure was! :-)
Be buggered. Bloody ripper 😊
Just saw on Ebay today...

Top Job !
My milk carton version works like a charm.
I like that it's smart.....

good vid!helpful...yea diy...milk gallon or watr bottle plastic, cut out the same shape shld work mate! heck o fa job bloke
Cracking
Lol 8:40 that funny.
If you were to just turn the bottom part of the fork you wouldn't have been fighting it to go around, just for anyone's knowledge....
Top banana mate
I hope you didnt pay for than a few cents. Dirt bike riders have used plastic bottles cut into the shape for years
He paid $13 lol
... WILSON .... WIIIIILSOOOOOOOOOOoooooon :D :D :D
Looks like you got more out just by pumping the forks and cleaning it each time than you did from using the tool.
Engloid Oil will continue to come out until the seal seats and that's why you need to pump them after cleaning.
Be easier to just replace the seals jeeze
BS Obviously you have never used one or changed a fork seal. If I changed everytime my bikes weeped a little. I'd spend a fortune on seals and oil. Not to mention that it takes 2 minutes to do this with a cut out milk jug. Jeez
Rule of thumb. If it leaks replace the seals.

Fork seal doctor is much better.
You can donthis with the forks still on the bike ,
CHECK OUT THOSE GUNS
LOL :-)
