I have to thank you as an Honda automotive technician I’m recently rebuilding a track day bike a ZX6R and did the fork seals
being a technician wasn’t worried about doing them as I believe everything is just nuts and bolts however your video showed me a few really cool tricks that made the job simply a breeze thank you and keep up the great work I look forward to watching many more of your videos

Fantastic "how to" James. I've always been a bit scared to tackle my FJ1200 forks, even reading the manual still left me unsure. After watching your video, everything is crystal clear now, great job.!

Fork Handles... Just had the seal change from hell on my 92 FN, offside went a treat, nearside couldn't get the tubes apart, after much "fannying about" with rubber mallets decided after reading up to go with the fork oil, bottle jack, knocked up frame/jig method of seal removal, was successful, top bush came out with the seal.
Lower bush was riding up inside upper, no amount of banging would have separated them. Your vids are top notch and have given the confidence to "have a go" Many Thanks...

A brilliant video, never did fork seals till today and it really helped...I would only add one comment though (and it mau or may not be bike specific, i am not a mechanic so cannot say for sure), but I spent over an hour trying to remove the "cup" that the bottom of the for internal sits into, could not get it out for love nor money...it came loose but would not drop out...so I gave up and used a rod to push it back in, I had no issues at all to get the fork back together again even leaving it in (it took me 10 seconds to locate the internal into the cup)...It was so quick infant that I didn't even bother trying to get it out of the second fork and took less than 40 minutes for me to remove it, do what you showed in the video and put it back on the bike, and this was the first time I have ever tried doing forks on any bike.

Thank you so much! As I weigh 100KG w/gear and carry another 30kg pretty frequently, I wanted stiffer springs and was looking for exactly this. Wow, I can't believe how easy that was with a bit of patience! Always been told when looking for a bike once the fork seals start leaking its a really expensive job... but damn I almost can't believe it was that simple!

  • @StrongFives

A helpful tip is to know which way the oil seal goes on the fork. If you get it upside down the retaining clip won't fit in the groove which might encourage you to try smashing the seal down harder. On right side up forks the lettering on the seal is facing the opening, on upside down forks it's the opposite.

    Liked. Subbed. 👍
A BIG heads up if you're going to follow this video (and I absolutely do recommend this video), is that you make sure the bottom cup, or bottoming cone as one of the commentators called it, is smaller diameter than the fork seal. I got the first seal in and had to pull it back out because the cup was wider than the seal.
Also pay attention to which direction the seal is before you pull it.
Great video. Did everything myself and my forks are working beautifully weeks later. Thank you!
