  • A shoulder labrum tear can heal naturally if the right treatment is done to allow the labrum to reattach to the bone. Then that new connection has to be strengthened to reinforce the joint for the long run to keep the shoulder healthy.
    The right kind of treatment includes taking pressure off the shoulder joint, then the right strength exercise to get the labrum ready for normal and advanced shoulder activity.
    In this video, Dr. David covers the 7 best treatments for pain relief from a shoulder labrum repair.
    He also mentions some treatments that might harm the shoulder labrum.

    Thank you so much for this video. I am two months in after tearing my shoulder labrum and have been in constant pain every day. Yesterday I found your video and did everything you suggested and today the constant pain has gone! Only hurts when I rotate my shoulder. I have an upcoming appointment with a surgeon but am now hopeful I won't have to go down the surgery path, the thought of which is so frightening to me. So thank you! ❤

    Man, you are God sent! After watching this video I am almost positive my labrum is jacked up. I’m a fireman, and while I was stretching hose line into a fire while crawling my gear got snagged on a metal door way frame. Little did I know as I was pulling to get off- there was like a 3 foot drop ahead of me… I landed with my left arm extended all the way down with my palm facing the floor. I was in agony for a week and a half before I thought to myself “maybe I have a dislocation” so I tried to pop my shoulder back in and I definitely heard a pop with very little relief. Now I felt that I could actually begin to heal. Here I am about 3 weeks later. My motion has increased. But a lot of the movements you showed about are the ones I’m having discomfort with. I’m just happy I know what it is now. I’m going to do these helpful exorcizes you showed above. I’m praying to god they help me. I just want to heal without getting surgery and being out of the job. I’m a new fireman and there’s a horrible stigma with being out of work due to an injury. God bless you man, thank you. And if you have any advice for my particular situation- I’m grateful! 🙏 🇺🇸 💪

      Hey Mikey, we are so sorry to hear about your shoulder labrum injury! It is very tricky to deal with these type of injuries, especially in jobs where your physicality is your asset! Healing from a torn labrum will require putting yourself in a healing environment, this could mean using a sling for a good portion of your day and working your way into being able to do these exercises you might not be too comfortable with at this moment.
      Here is a video of how to put your brace on:

    I purchased your rotator cuff class, and am learning so much with it and with all your generous videos you are sharing with us. Can’t thank you enough!!! I would love to hear your comments regarding shoulder braces. I have a rotator cuff and labral tear in BOTH shoulders! The sling is tough on the shoulder that is not wearing the sling. I’m wondering if you have any advice regarding shoulder braces that say they are good for both these issues.

    Is there a way to distinguish between a labrum injury vs rotator cuff? I went to PT to treat rotator cuff and was told it was inflammation (no mri done). They seems unsure of point pointing the actual problem. I was recommended a lot of the exercises you mentioned at the end to avoid. These are the ones that still bother my shoulder. However the angry cat was one of the only exercises that did work so I always use that one when my shoulder starts hurting but to your point it does feel like the pain is a pull making me think it’s actually labrum not rotator cuff

    Hi! I have been questioning the exercises that were directed by my PT would only make my labral worse, like you said! I feel like those exercises are putting pressure on the tear. I do understand they want to strengthen the muscles AROUND the tear but they scare me. Thank you…i see im not alone…

    I have a possible bicep tendon tear, nothing can be found but some of my health professionals feel this is the case. Is there videos to help strengthen my shoulder it’s been nearly 4mths. Plus I have a definite tear in my elbow… with diagnosed tennis elbow, all in the same arm. Can be very painful 😮 some days. My physio doesn’t seem to be helping

      Hi Valyd45! 😃 It's our pleasure! We are so sorry that you have been suffering from a shoulder labrum tear. It can be such a painful experience to endure. An inversion table is wonderful for the back so we do recommend it however for the shoulder it can be helpful if it feels good to you. If you feel any discomfort it's best not to use the table and let the shoulder rest. In case you are interested we do have additional information and exercises in a playlist we have compiled for shoulder pain labrum tear help. You can check it out here:

    After progressing through angry cat/shrugging/pulley exercises for a few months and feeling stronger/more pain free, what would you recommend for healthy resistance exercises to transition back into using weights? I understand everyone’s slap tear / condition will be varied, but just asking more broadly what would be healthy weighted progressions for this next stage? Thanks!

    I think incline push-up plus also helps tremendously. :) Push-up plus = a push up and angry cat exercise in one move.

    Ty! How long should each of these phases on average be before moving onto the next? How many months before you suggest someone going back to normal life and hobbies without limitations (things like yoga, surfing, heavy weight training)? Or are those types of activities never possible again without fear / limitation (for example: heavy overhead presses or yoga class hand stands)?

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Ash-Bash! The duration of each phase and the timeline for returning to normal activities can vary greatly depending on the individual and their specific condition. It's essential to consult with your healthcare provider or physical therapist who can assess your progress and provide personalized guidance. They can give you a better idea of when it might be appropriate to resume activities like yoga, surfing, or heavy-weight training, and whether there may be any limitations or modifications required. Remember, everyone's journey is unique, and it's important to prioritize your safety and listen to your body as you progress.

    You know this guy is serious when he says 100 reps at 10 contractions for each rep. That’s 16 min total of contraction for just one exercise. I don’t think people realize how much work and effort we sometimes have to invest in in order to get proper optimal results.
