Lovely demo! I love the fx they chose to include in these modules… if I didn’t already own vintage gear that does what each module does, it would be an instant buy! …possibly still might by it for a more portable inspiration “chain”.
This the best review of the Chroma on the internet!! Thank you for including guitar. Love the synth content but using the guitar added perspective to the pedal.
Oooo I love this pedal! I think its super approachable for someone who's never used a pedal (like me). Its really interesting and I'm really enjoying the effects and sounds!
I think someone who's seen all sorts of setups with tons of effects and just hasn't jumped in yet, this could "jump you to the finish line" so to speak
Absolute killer pedal. I was also looking at the Dream ’65 just yesterday, almost bought it! Your videos are always so relaxing, keep it up your gear loves you!
great video jorb! really thinking about getting a chroma console - loved the moment when you said "its jorbin time" and the choma console jorbed all over the place
Nice run down of everything and great to hear it on a few different instruments. Enjoyed the guitar addition, looks like a hybrid of a paranormal series Cyclone and those paranormal tele/strat combos.
I always find the whole idea of multi-effects units quite interesting. I would say if I don't have to change a sound during a track, I like using a chain of single effects. However, playing live and triggering stuff on and off during the set, multi-effects are super.
One thing I realized about Chroma Console from this in-depth demonstration: Hologram really should have put a button next to AMOUNT on each effect channel marked MIX, which turns the AMOUNT knob into a wet/dry mix for each discrete effect channel. Because with the flexibility of the routing as a multiplier, it makes me want to create an effect chain which is, for example, Parallel Compression (compressed and uncompressed signal mixed) into 100% wet Phaser, and then have that combined effect come out of the Master MIX balance along with the original Dry signal.
I agree that wet/dry control on every stage would be brilliant, and would make this an instant buy for me. I can do this in my Zoia, but being able to set something up like this on the fly while jamming in a band setting would make a world of difference.
Thank you Jorb, this popped up just as i got home and had a tiny bit of cleaning to do before turning on my chroma console for the first time ❤ got me through and now its timeeeeee
Great Demo! Very exciting to see some quick application of what all this can do. I've been waiting for someone to properly showcase the doubler. I have one on the way but it hasn't shipped yet and I've been dying to know what some of the effects are like that you touched on. Thanks!
planning on pairing the Chroma Console with : Mood (MKI, gotta love the mono texture and vibe) and Shallow Water (it's just magic) in front, and Specular Tempus at the end (for those beautiful stereo trails). Can't even imagine the countless HOURS I'll spend with my toys! Amazing review, as always, Jorb!
First exciting review so far! I'm planning my own video on the Chroma Console but have to wait till it ships with the second batch in January. Gonna pair it with my RD-8 and some modular gear but also want to include some different instruments like violin. It's cool to see more people using instruments other than guitar for pedal demos, we really lack those! Keep up the good work. Besides yours, there's only a handful other channels applying to that niche.
I sure would like this one and thanks for showing it in multiple applications. I think it's on my list. I'm gonna grab the UAFX Ruby and I think the Chroma Console right after that
Later to this video, but I will say that pairing my Reface CP with the Chrome Console and the Eventide Space (for Reverb after the Chroma) is a truly delightful setup that can get some fantastic sounds. Pairing that same pedal setup with a mono synth like the Poly D can also lend itself to great results! The Microcosm, while cool, always seemed too “out there” for my taste, and the controls and options of the Chroma Console just make it a perfect desktop pedal for my home studio. It’s a gem!
great overview thanks, looking forwards to mine arriving. aesthetically they've smashed it, im actually surprised at how 'stock' this is in some ways compared to the rest of their range, but just seems to tick every box
Love the look of this video. Very 70s. Even the pedal has 70s vibes. Good demo. This pedal is tempting, as I have no pedals, and thought about a multi-effects pedal, but I’m sticking with software for now. I do play a bit of guitar and also have the Take 5. The only other pedal I might consider is the Cosmos. But Enso works reasonably well for me.
Really nice review Jorb, as always! I tried one with different synths and I have to say I didn't like this pedal so much (and I'm a big fan of the MicroCosm). However, there is a big positive aspect with this pedal: it always sounds sweet. Sweet spots everywhere. It's just that (and this is purely subjective) I didn't find it as exciting as the MC. It is definitely a great pedal for a Boards of Canada kind of sound, but I think that Hologram raised the bar up to such a point with the MicroCosm, that my expectations were way too high regarding the diffusion and texture effects.
Part way through, quite the pedal. It's certainly getting a lot of buzz as Holograms' stuff usually does. Curious to see more comparisons to Endorphines Ghost pedal as well.
I'd love to try it. I like the lfo for modulation, I like more hands on controls. Chroma console, way more diversity in the effects. The whole texture section is full of unique powerful stuff
@PorchBass that's what I thought with the empress zoia or the poly beebo but I dont understand how to program them.i still have the beebo because I can understand the downloading and loading the effects from the sharing website
I currently own a Elektron Analog Heat. I have a Warm Audio WA273-EQ on the main outs of my mixer, and the Analog Heat on the WA273-EQ's insert. And all of that goes into my Audio interface. So basically I have a solid mic preamp and stereo compressor (as the Analog Heat is a cheap price to getting high quality Master Bus/Out compression) for all my synths and drum machines. So I barely have to do much mixing in my DAW after I've tracked... My question is, do you think the Chroma Console compresses the audio on the same level as the Elektron Analog Heat? Or does it just offer solid effects and preamp capabilities?
So after a 3 month wait, my chroma console arrived today. I genuinely dont think i could be happier, it pairs with my personal set up i have like bread pairs with butter. Ive had had it hooked up for around 2 hours so far, and i feel like I've journeyed into the deep reaches of space and time. Arpeggios put through this thing are opening up a wormhole from my audio-out. Thankyou jorb for your ridiculously helpfull dive into this controller
Haha, I own a Korg Polysix, a Yamaha Reface CP, and oddly enough, that very (or similar) BK Precision oscilloscope. "Are you me?!" 🤣 Great examples though, thanks for running this thing through its paces. Sounds awesome, love a multi-effect pedal without a screen. One interesting trick I discovered with the Reface is to throw the Wah on, but dial the rate back, and adjust the depth to taste - basically turns it into a watery low-pass filter which won't get excessively resonant. Then try this on the clav and toy, and you can get some really interesting koto- and bell-like timbres. I bet that would be rad through this pedal!
Yeah, great pedal. Except for the fact you can't bloody buy one anywhere in the UK without spending close to 750USD on one!! Really hope a UK dealer gets hold of some soon.
Great point about MIDI clock settings for each channel. Being able to turn clock on or off for each effects would be great. Maybe they can change this with a future update (along with being able to pick and choose effects instead of being restricted by the 4 columns).
I really like the idea of multi FX pedals and effects units, but the problem is that you're realistically going to use 2 and ignore the other (10-10,000), because they just don't sound good.

Yeah it's a real shame they don't do returns as id order one right now if that was the case. HE only does returns for broken or faulty pedals. That said however I would say that if you didn't gel with it you could likely resell it on eBay for what you paid for it
