How stupid do you have to be to think Kuro actually believes that Luffy is drunk and isn't just saying that because the Marines are literally right outside the door, less than 10 feet away from him? Kuro's wanted poster is locked in a safe under Morgan's desk- why would you think it's out in the open for Helmeppo to see constantly? Zoro outright says he recognizes Kuro from Funky Bar, not a poster.
The screenwriters dumbed this script down enough for the people who turn their brains off when they're watching something to understand what's happening, and yet there are _still_ idiots who can't figure out what's going on unless it's spelled out for them as its happening...

I imagine one of the reasons Kuro doesn't outright kill anyone, beside him trying to follow his plans and being a psychopath, is because Kuro is LITERALLY a cat playing with his food. Feral cats toy with and kill local wildlife without eating the prey; to the point that several bird species are endangered. Is it dumb? Maybe. Tbf, Kuro was thought to be dead three years ago, so the posters are likely gone and not widely available. Morgan kept it in a safe which Helmeppo has no access too, so he hasn't seen Kuro face in about three years and might even had only glances of it back then.

Yes exactly! Kuro was Morgan's shame. Sure he bragged about him to keep up reputation, but the face of the man was locked in a safe and I doubt Daddy Morgan ever sat down with his son to show it to him. Helmeppo probably just had to deal with the stories over and over again without ever seeing a picture (and if he did, it's easy to forget someone's face). I wonder how many people in real life could look at a wanted poster and recognize the person 3 days later - let alone weeks, months or years. Luffy can't even remember Buggy's name xD

I feel like I’m in the minority in that I love the way Kuina died. It reminds me of Bridge to Tarabithia. Sometimes death is unexpected, sudden, and mundane. And the mundane nature of the death and lack of closure it brings makes it feel all the more tragic.

    • @Antis14CZ
      @Antis14CZ ปีที่แล้ว +4

You said it. Storytelling always feels like it has to prove something. Important characters have to die important deaths. Murder, illness, combat, execution, wild animals...
But like you said, real life is a bitch. Death can be mundane and insignificant. Heck, my friend's dad died basically because he fell off stairs. Kuina is basically a subversion of storytelling tropes.
Also, think about how many times Luffy could've died, just in East Blue. Right at the start, the lid of his barrel wasn't water-sealed. If he toppled, if he got into bad weather, water would've gotten in and he'd die before anyone knew his name.

They did try to give Kaya the final super-strong poison dose (blue soup at the dinner) but Luffy interrupted that then later ate it himself, they locked down the house just in case because the Marines were on the outside, Usopp got away and may potentially have had one person believe him and Kuro realised there was at least one other still inside, so they were likely going to kill Kaya then stage the scene to pin it on Luffy and Nami, and I'm gonna guess there's an off-screen moment or deleted scene where Usopp fills in Nami on who Klahadore is so she now knows him as Kuro, Helmeppo also probably never saw Kuro and only knows him by Axe-Hand's stories, the only time we see a Kuro wanted poster is one rolled up and kept in the Grand Line map safe

  • @trolleyfan

My assumption about the "lockdown house" was that this was a security feature her parents installed...a house-wide panic room, in effect. I mean, they were a) filthy rich and b) living in a world where pirate raids are a thing. That Kaya doesn't seem surprised it exists goes along with this. But Kuro deducing what locks people *out* also locks people *in* fits with his whole "thousand plans" character.

I feel like the reason kuro decided to kill Kaya was because that was his plan b. His original plan was to have Merry give him ownership of Kaya's shipyard and then wait for her to die from her illness. That way, no one would question it and it would all look natural. But then Merry refused and so kuro resorted to plan b. And the reason for this could be that he was losing patience. He's a notorious pirate who's been pretending to be a butler for at least 3 years, at some point he was bound to lose his shit. And if he just straight up murdered Kaya everyone in the town would be immediately suspicious of him. And another thing, the reason why helmeppo doesn't recognise kuro was because he was "defeated" at least 3 years ago. I don't think most people would remember or cared what he looked like after 3 years.

    - Shimotsuki is mentioned 3 times one when we see the Village along this the Shimotsuki clan symbol on the flag, Kuina states that’s her name during her promise, & is on the map during the End Credits
    - I noticed this but if you look at Buchi’s face you can see that around his left eye is lighter this is maybe because of his mask / helmet

Yeah I too think that since it was few chapters, super summarized story then they had to put Zoro's story somewhere.
I would have liked Helmeppo to have recognized Kuro from the wanted poster and was afraid to confront him so he played dumb but then Koby seeing Helmeppo all nervous to leave and that in all the vomiting of Luffy and that Koby was literally going to follow his instincts to go back because there's something doesn't add up with the butler. Then Helmeppo would admit who the old man was and then everything else with Zoro would happen and Coby since he's not strong enough would let Luffy go to confront Kuro.
(I THINK it would have looked good this idea to be able to help Helmeppo's character a little bit 😅).
But well I too found that Luffy comment kind of weird 😆 but maybe I comment it because of the "Captain Ussop" thing but I like to think Luffy thought he would also get a little kiss reward for saving her.... LOL!!!! it's funny.
I see Kuro's behavior as him of a cat playing with his food instead of going straight for the kill.
And it backfired on him 😅.
Although I still see Koby as suffering because he wants to do well as a Marine, but he's weak to his opponents and after that since Luffy was the one who gave him that chance to follow his dream.

    • @Glockenspheal

I would've really liked for Helmeppo to recognize Kuro and play dumb and try to get the marine group out of there ASAP, then after Luffy wakes up and Coby talks to him about how Luffy is not that bad of a pirate, making Helmeppo question himself.
It would've served as a lesson for him, not only that his pre-conceptions of his dad were wrong, that not all Marines are as good as they appear, and a lesson on bravery, maybe after seeing Coby try to do his duty as a marine and knowing he is basically pinning the blame on Luffy and turning a blind eye on the innocent, he would feel guilt, not only for not believing in Coby and constantly teasing him, but acting cowardly, this would've served as a parallel to his little arc in the manga when he confronted his father, but at a more thematic level, basically doing the right thing when his dad picked the easier path.

Nux not understanding One Piece lore hurt me inside
Kuina "fell down the stairs" is a saying that people use when trying to hide the true cause of an injury, like "I walked into a door" when you have a black eye. She was looked down on by her own family and was made to believe she could never accomplish her life goal and most likely killed herself and the truth covered up. (The theory is that she's "gone" as said by her dad in this episode, and got amnesia, being sent off to become Tasshigi when her old life was so depressing leaving everyone else thinking she died instead for her own safety. In the Theory only one person would know what really happened and made up the stair story to hide it)
And Luffy can be cut by Kuro, and is cut in the manga and anime fight too. It just doesn't cut deep because the blades bounce off and he's not a great swordsman so he can't cut him easier. Luffy has always been vulnerable to blades, it's not weird he got cut by Kuro. Also Kuro was the first character to move faster than you can see, but it was the Pussyfoot Manuever that made that work. When he did the maneuver he moved so fast he couldn't even cut what he was aiming at, so he just cut at random (Also it looked goofy, so having him get some goofy movement blur works)

However, things kept mucking up the plan. Usop shows with mystery riffraff. Merry doesn't produce the papers to give him the docks. Marines show up. He was having to improvise. So it was lock down the house so no one gets in, kill everyone who isn't helping the plan (and maybe even his cronies as well), make a story for later to explain their mysterious disappearances.

Luffy can be hurt by anything that can cut or pierce, he can only tank blunt attacks. Kaya becoming a doctor is in the manga, even had a cover story showing her treating i think one of the kids in usopps old crew. Zoro did want to be the strongest before kuina died, her dying just fortified his resolve to do it for the both of them.
