    Arturia DrumBrute Impact: shrsl.com/3akcr
    A live, semi-improvised performance, all on hardware, and inspired by long, sprawling mornings full of potential. I have a much more elaborate jam set up in my usual space, but my MIDI-through device is sending ghost notes and random program changes to all the hardware, so that one has to wait until next week.
    While waiting for a new MIDI-through box to arrive, I set up this arrangement on a whim, and centred it around the new synth in my collection, the Arturia MicroFreak. I hope you'll agree that the MicroFreak sounds great and has some awesome features (four-note paraphony, multiple voice types, analogue filter) for the price point.
    Arturia MicroFreak + Eventide H9 + Strymon Ola - Main synth sequence and lead
    Arturia DrumBrute Impact + OTO Bam - Drums
    Teenage Engineering PO-33 + Strymon Deco - Bass
    Written and performed within a 12-hour period, and uploaded as is, with only a little compression/limiting on the master.

    You know, I've listened to your jams for a few years now.
    I've listened to great, fully fleshed jams with 6 or 7 devices at the time.
    I've listened to you jamming with none other than Kellii Scott, drummer of one of my all time favourite bands.
    And I've loved it all.
    But something keeps me coming back to this little jam.
    The melody, the little progression on the Microbrute, the delicate bass line on the PO, the absolutely monstrous beat you programmed on the Drumbrute. I love everything about this jam, and I will keep on coming for more for years to come.
    Thanks, Jay, for taking the decision that day of scrapping the bigger jam and do this instead.

    A lovely hardware jam. I dig the melancholic melody and the distorted kick drum. Very cyber punk to my ears / post apocalyptic ambient music. Seems as if this one just sort of channeled other worldy influences and let the gear speak for them in the form of melodies and rhythms.

      To be fair, a lot of those complaints were against the original Drumbrute, which had a rough launch. Early batches were plagued with issues. I thought it was mostly a lot of BS and got sounds that I LOVED out of my original Drumbrute. I parted with it for a Roland TR8S and nearly instantly regretted the decision. Picked up an Impact on a whim to check it out and ended up dumping the TR8S for it. Sure it's more limited in its sounds, but it has more character and the workflow is more fun IMO.

    • @alanwomack9948
      @alanwomack9948 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stranger Sun I honestly never had a problem with my drumbrute and I had one of the first ones. I got the deepest most hard hitting ghetto house/footwork/techno sounds out of it, once I got the BD and the hi hats and Rim all dialed in, and I haven’t found another drum machine like it, my Vermona comes close, and I got the behringer 808 clone which sounds great for what it is, but my drumbrute is probably my favorite. How do you compare the original with the impact?

    I used to have a complex hardware MIDI studio, and if functioned about 99%....trouble is could not use it because of the 1%. That 1% may have been the sustain pedal missing or dropping out making a blending ambient into short notes. So today I am still 100% hardware and use MIDI, but MIDI is only used to play keyboards/modules remotely from other keyboards and clock.
