  • If you've ever wanted to pocket carry an older traditional folding knife without a pocket clip, the Collector Knives Tuscany Leather Clip Slip is a great easy solution. The high quality mini leather sheath comes in two sizes to accommodate large and small knives, and keeps them easy and tactical near the top of the pocket like the good Lord Lynn Thompson intended. So don't donate, throw away, or give your grandpas knife to a stupid person- keep it and use it- because one day you're gonna be old too. This review measures and weighs both clip slips, shows them in the pocket and gives a list of popular knives that'll fit. You'll see a Swiss Army Knife, a Leatherman PST II, a Douk Douk, a Case Sodbuster, a camillus Boy Scout Knife, a higo no kami, a Laguiole, A opinel no. 8 and more.

    I did enjoy this video and learned from it. Thank you, I had planned on making my own pocket clip sheath for my new interest in old traditional pocket knife styles. This gave me a new perspective on what kind of clip to use and design of the sheath to be a deep pocket carry or not.

    I have several of those clip slips and like them a lot but I'm also not the biggest fan of the clip. I might experiment with one and try to straighten that lower part of that clip so it doesn't stick out as much

  • @zach4007
    @zach4007 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What size clip slip will fit an Opinel number 8? I’d need this to legally carry one in VA since my state’s an open carry only state for knives.

  • @quientinmorrison9723
    @quientinmorrison9723 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I had one of these when I still owned a lionsteel shuffler (moved on to greener pastures)
    It's really meant for belt carry: The slip clips on easily to the belt and holds it with the perfect amount of tension. The only trouble is that the knife becomes more conspicuous, which may defeat the purpose of a traditional knife for some people.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The the belt exterior? Doesn’t the clip jab into your pants? I have plenty of sheaths- and I was looking for a solution for pocket carry.

    • @quientinmorrison9723
      @quientinmorrison9723 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Advanced Knife Bro
      Nah, the clip doesn't Jan into your pants.
      If you want pocket carry, I've heard good things about the William Henry slip cases with clips and the Jared Oeser slip case. Those are limited however.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So I just went back and looked... it's marketed first and foremost as a pocket clip.
      "OK, on the heels of the very successful pocket slip, we have went a bit further. There are some knives that are just too big to let fall into your pocket. Or maybe you just need the knife a little more accessible. Thus, we have shortened the slips and put a heavy duty clip on them for pocket carry. Although after looking at them, I discovered they would work equally well on a belt or boot since this clip is designed for verstaile heavy duty use."
      Belt clip was the after thought. So it may work better for a belt clip... which I wouldn't use it for because I have sheaths... but it's still designed for a pocket.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also I'll look into those other suggestions... thanks.

    Nothings better prettier or more classy looking than a slip joint knife. I carry one every day I rotate takes me a month to get through my rotation ,but on my neck I carry a fixed blade and thats for protection, Because that’s the first thing people ask me how do you pull the knife out of Fast, I don’t. I take my time with the traditional that’s why I wear a neck Knife

    There is a tannery not far from home that I've been meaning to visit for a while. I bought all the leather-working tools I need to make a sheath, but I haven't had the leather, nor the means (at the moment)to tan my own). Anyway, all I meant to say was I should start making these for my unworthy EDC knives.

  • @bonesjones1658
    @bonesjones1658 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I only wish you had spoke on retention a bit... If the knife fits inside really well, does the whole slip come off or does it stay in place when trying to remove said knife? Or does it slide off easily, and the only way for it to stay in place is the knife fits with a bit of room?

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This question is kind of vague. Are you talking pocket clip retention- sheath retention on the $15 clip? If sheath retention? How best would I be able to address retention when this could literally could be used for 10's of 1000s of different knives. If we're talking sheath retention on a sheath that's made for a specific knife this would be possible and addressable- it's not on a generic product. The leather is thick? Thicker knives will be held better? If you switch between thick and thin knives expect thin knives to start to fall out because the leather will stretch much like nearly all leather. My recommendation would not be to use it for thick and thin knives.
      Also does the slip come off of what? the pocket clip? The pocket clip is attached fully inside of the slip. I really don't know how it's attached, but I did mention in the review that it doesn't come out- so if you're referring to me addressing that- well then I did.
      The moral of the story is... this thing is super cheap. It's super generic- so it's impossible to make a video that would address each users questions about clipless knives... which is by definition a pretty broad category. I measured the internals and externals- the only way possible to see if your knife sort of fits. It's a video designed to make you aware of a specific product you might not know exists. I tried several knives you may or may not own. The reasonable thing to do is buy the slip that closest fits the knife you like and try it out- much like I did. Hell... I don't like the clip so I kind of wasted $30 to make you aware of a product. I gave quite a bit more information than collector knives did on a product THEY make. If you are picky about a product fitting a certain knife maybe you should buy custom?

    • @bonesjones1658
      @bonesjones1658 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Appreciate you replying. Also, I guess I just didn't convey my point well because I thought I was pretty specific.
      If a (specific) knife FITS INSIDE (the slip) REALLY WELL, does the WHOLE SLIP COME OFF or does it stay in place (on your pants pocket) when trying to remove said knife?
      If it slides off easily, is the only way for the slip to stay in place is with a knife that fits more loosely inside?
      Basically I'm wondering how well that things clip will work if you have a knife in there that fits well/doesn't want to just fall right out. No, I don't think the clip is gonna come off for some reason. Yes, I do understand this would hold a Spyderco Bug different than a GEC 46 Whaler. And, I also realize you have no way of knowing if I'm some dumbass or not, which might explain your response lol. And yes, I should probably just go get one and try it out. Keep up the awesome reviews man :)

    This can't be an oversimplification, because an oversimplification is a description that's been dumped down and this was most definitely not a description of the superior cutting tool that is a traditional knife.
    If you need a clip you either don't want a traditional knife, you need a smaller one, or you just need to get over it 😁
    Honestly if I'm going to use a sheath it either goes on my belt or attaches on my belt and hangs I to my pocket, the only knife clip I ever liked was on my Buck 482 before I realized the error of my ways and switched over to real knives 😁
    I will always love it as far as modern folders goes, but none hold a candle to a good thinly ground razor sharp traditional blade.
