    When I was studying engineering one of my profs said "whenever you see something so simple that you say to yourself 'I shudda thought of that', it has been perfectly engineered". Well done Spike!

    Just looking for a way to stop a Victorinox from sitting sideways in my pocket and found your video.
    You Sir are a genius and I hope that you are selling them. This is absolutely fantastic and I can not wait to get to a bicycle shop.
    Just amazing and so simple - very well done.
    Thanks
    Gray

      Thanks Gary. When you go to the bike shop, take your knife with you! Not all SAK’s have the same size lanyard ring hole. So having your knife with you will allow you to test the spokes to make sure they’ll slide through the hole (spokes come in different thicknesses). Cheers!

    Wow, that is probably the coolest hack I have seen for a Swiss Army Knife. I have several of them for EDC and, like you, would rather that they hang vertical instead of laying flat in my pocket. Great idea, thank you for posting this! 👍

    Simple, effective, cheap and BRILLIANT.
    Made one out of a large paperclip in about 1 minute. Works great. Will invest in a more durable material like a bicycle spoke.
    Many thanks Spike.

      I did just as you said after reading the comment and i’m simply MIND BLOWN!
      Funnily enough, I used the pliers on my Deluxe Tinker to make said clip, can’t wait till i upgrade!
      (Bike spikes are 5x cheaper than the SwissQlip too!)

    • @ricdonato4328
      @ricdonato4328 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chicagotypewriter2094 Huh, 5X cheaper, how do you do the math? Using the cost of the SwissQlip then doing 5X, the calculated results is always higher number, never a lesser number. Maybe you mean the SwissQlip is 5X more in cost than a spike spoke; certainly, that would make more sense and can be correctly calculated.

    Yey, finally a good solution to the uneasiness of the knife sitting sideways in my pants pocket!I am surprised SAK people didn't think of ANYTHING yet to solution that problem! SAK is amazing, nearing perfection, but nope, there is always room for improvement,ty for your video,GBY!

    That's a great idea, well done. I wonder if you might just add one more 90 degree bend where you start to thread the knife on, so it points down, to stop snagging on anything? Just a thought.

  • @rayjrdibenedetto867

    Hi. That is very cool but how did you bend it to make it look so nice? Unlike the one on the table.hope you can answer-thank you!

    • @SpikeBachman
      @SpikeBachman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ray Jr DiBenedetto The one on the table was my first attempt. So it was bent back and forth several times to figure out the correct distances, which causes it’s crooked look. To bend the spoke, I used large needle nosed pliars and standard pliars. I did the bending with the needle nosed pliars while holding the spoke firmly with the standard pliars. The skinny tips of the needle nose pliars allow me to grip the spoke close to the standard pliars jaws so that I can get a tight radius bend. It takes a fair bit of strength though. I hope that helps! Cheers

    Epic simple, totally ergonomic!! I assume the wide portion that hangs over your pocket was left wide to accommodate the width of the knife? I would prefer it to be left smaller/thinner, please let me know!! Brilliant work sir! Great design!!!

    • @SpikeBachman
      @SpikeBachman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you J Garcia. The width of the clip results - in my case - from the width of the pliars I used.
      I imagine a firm grip with the tips of some needle nosed pliars could produce something thinner.
      Or, I think only having one return bend could work as long as the spoke has itself to ‘pinch’ your pocket against.
      Cheers

    I think you can use a quarter size key ring. Just pull it apart enough so it it isn't tight anymore. Slide your knife with its key ring onto it and then clip the larger key ring to your pants.

      Pro tip: Not all bike spokes are the same. If you need to head to the bike shop to get spokes (they usually have old ones they'd probably be happy to give you), take your SAK. That way you can test to make sure it'll slide through the lanyard hole. Cheers!

    • @SpikeBachman
      @SpikeBachman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. And yes, it was actually my great grandfather who dropped the 2nd 'n' in our last name. During wartime when being identified as German in the USA was problematic. It fools no one. 😉

    • @september1683
      @september1683 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SpikeBachman - Right it fools no one :-) By the way: Bach = engl. creek - The widespread german surname is an original residential name and applied to someone who "lives by the creek". So if you want to translate it literally it would be "creekman". Have a nice day! And thanks again for your helpful video.

    On the face of it ,that looks great for pocket storage . But when you come to use the knife that clip must get in the way , a lot . I have taken off the ring and ground down the lanyard ring i found that even gets in the way for comfort . I can see how useful your mod is for pocket use but that clip mod must really be a big pain and get in the way ? Ok if you hardly ever use the SAK but if you use the thing a lot i see big prob . Can you tell us how to use the knife with this thing hanging , or better still make a video . Many thanks i also mod my SAK ( see video ).

    • @SpikeBachman
      @SpikeBachman  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the reply Rob. The clip I made certainly doesn't come without some compromise. If you found a bare lanyard ring annoying, I'm certain you wouldn't be happy with my solution. However, I've been able to acceptably work around it while using every tool. I'll eather fold it back along the same-side scale (when using the small blade for example), or have it extend off the back of the knife (when using the large blade for example). I use my knife daily in the office and in the woods, but not as a 'power user', or with such heavy force that the clip impedes what I'm trying to do. In the end - for my uses - the trade-offs of the clip are still worth keeping it installed. Cheers!

      @@SpikeBachman Thanks for the reply you explained it well you find the trade off was worth it , that's fair comment . It's all about finding what works that's great , have a look at my can opener / screw driver mod on my channel , any feed back is always welcome . Tks rob in Scotland .

    Why not just use a short lanyard with a clip attached to the lanyard. That way you don't have that funky hook attached to your knife when your using it. A lanyard hook is much smaller and user friendly when using the knife.
