  • The CollectorKnives.net and Lion Steel CK-01 Shuffler Barlow is one of my favorite slip joints in a while. While non locking blades might be considered traditional old guy knives, it's a pretty great carry option with the DP Steel and Leather ClipSlip. These beauts are only available at Collector Knives, and feature many modern upgrades like Bohler M390 steel, and a screw together construction, so you can take apart the knife. Only available in limited quantities these are nearly sold out. You don't want to be the last millennial on Instagram without something this pretty to take filtered pocket dump pictures of.

And would lend itself really well to wood beating / batoning lifestyles. And....actually this is sounding better and better the more I think about it.

      Caught that easily. I told myself 'don't but any knife similar to what you own,' you can't afford to collect knives. Ie- blade shape. I can buy a 940 and 943, but not a 940 and 940-1.
      What do I do? I buy a 940-1CF followed a month later with a Smock- essentially brothers from another mother.

    Mike Latham and Lionsteel nailed this one. The form factor and pull weight are right on the money and make this series possibly the best EDC slipjoint you can buy and easily the best of the modern traditionals. The F&F isn't perfect but acceptable for the price though it's not long before people will be complaining that a $130 knife "only" has M390.

    Nice looking knife, I've been collecting slip joints since childhood, from cheap (Old Timer, Buck, etc.) to pricey (Northwoods, etc.). I will admit the slip clip would make me carry them much more often.

    If you find the need for a really good slip joint, try the Wasp, by Manly, a Bulgarian company. They have some good good good steel. They do a really well heat treated 12c27, a style of more stainless d2, 154cm and best yet, a really nice s90v version.
    Very simple g10 handle, but nicer than the sodbuster handle for sure

    It came to my attention recently that in Robert Frost’s poem, “Mending Wall”, that he meant to say in his opening line, rather than, “Something there is that doesn’t love a wall...” to actually, “Something there is that doesn’t love a slip joint...”. Uh, huh. Really, AKB. They exude antediluvian association. Whittling--old people--apple slicing-rocking chairs--closing on fingers.....

  • @jcwindsound
    @jcwindsound 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another great and insightful social commentary! Oh, and the stuff about the knife was good too. I have a Shuffler with the canvas micarta handle. I haven't checked yet, but I read somewhere that the knife is still pinned together -- only the scales and bolsters are removable. Which, if true, is kinda lame. The blade is awesome but mine did not come particularly sharp -- in fact, the back corner of the blade in the closed position might have been its sharpest point. The knife took a trip to the ApostleP and is now the sharpest in my collection. I don't care for pocket clips, but then I'm a 50-something Boomer who can actually remember a time when most boys carried a pocket knife.

    Love the slipclip or was it clipslip? Regardless- Love it and will be DYIing ASAP. What I dig about the knife is the spirit of the original with modern touches. Therefore, I was surprised to see the sharp edges on the back of the blade. The edges should be there and protrude proudly when closed like they all do in my Uncles slipjoint knife collection, but an homage probably shouldn't include the negatives, but improve on them. Thanks for the video.

    At the risk of sounding like that guy, I thought the point behind the "kicker" (I think that's what it's called) sticking out on the unsharpened part on the tang (The part where they stamp the type of steel, maker, etc, or just "China stainless" if it's a Chinese SAK clone) below the depth of the sharpened edge of the blade was so that that part bottomed on that part inside the liner and not on the blade so you don't dull your edge if you let it snap shut. I dunno, maybe some omniscient Buck 110 owners or just some regular folks can back me up or correct me on that.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure it is. But since it’s pretty hard to see what’s going on in the liner it’s hard to tell if it hits the liner or not. Not all slip joints ate created equal. I’ve had many SAKs that that front upward curve of the blade hits the liner and the edge rolls.
      For me it’s just good practice to just not let it snap shut. If you do, and the edge rolls it’s too late. By the way I wasn’t questioning the function or purpose of that part. I just said it was kind of sharp. So if you carry it in a slip clip and put your knife in- handle butt side down, you might scratch your finger removing it.

    That CK01 is pretty nice, but I'm a hypocrite and can't stand the exposed screws on it even though I have no problem with them on most knives. Went another direction for my latest slippie: www.heinnie.com/spyderco-heinnie-haynesr-uk-penknife-g10

    Lazy copy/paste because i'm lazy:
    “Oh, you know what [AKB]'s doing? He’s going for that anti-marketing dollar. That’s a good market. He’s very smart.”
    Oh man, I am not doing that, you fucking, evil scumbags!
    “Ooh, you know what [AKB]'s doing now? He’s going for the righteous indignation dollar. That’s a big dollar. A lot of people are feeling that indignation. We’ve done research - huge market. He’s doing a good thing.”
    EDIT: Welcome to the "X-enniel/Oregon Trail" Micro-Generation fellow proto-hipster (78 here).
