With a clip with a long back plate (scale side) I have used industrial strength double sided tape on one and velcro pads with adhesive backing on another. They work well, are durable, theoretically can be removed without damage to the scales. BUT these methods do add more thickness to the knife. With the screw methods, a little Locktite may be a good addition. As always, a great video.

I have bought those Chinese clips, I have several models. I don't doubt the strength of the clips or the strength of their attachment to the scales, but I really doubt the strength of the attachment of the scales to the handle. I think if you pull the clip a bit the grip can come off its fixing.

Figured I'd find someone else using the KeySmart clips in the comments. Love 'em, keeps my Compact handy and has made it the first knife to truly be an EDC for me. The only problem is if you find yourself having to write with the pen being held by the multipurpose hook, you now have the clip dangling and dragging along your writing surface. It still works, but is real annoying.
My solution: bring a real pen :D

I have checked into Chinese pocket clips for pocket knives, looking at a availability, materials, prices and customer reviews.
Apparently the steel used is substandard, sometimes the advertised titanium turns out to be soft stainless, the clips sometimes come bent out of shape, and the heat treat is "missing"...the clips do not spring back into shape when pulled out of your pants or when caught on a seat or door corner.
In your video l noticed that the clips did have a good "spring" to them, but according to Amazon customers, it is more likely that one will find defects and unsatisfying experiences.
I am not anti-Chinese manufacturing, but let the buyer beware with regards to these inexpensive clips.

A pocket clip is an unnecessary complication for an SAK, in my opinion. They are small enough to be a pocket knife, and the clip will affect the grip. If I am whittling wood, I imagine I would pretty much hate it after 60 seconds.

    Hello Felix
    A good job as always!
I tried different positions of a clip mounted to the scales, but I found nothing that satisfied me. The Clip is always in the way or I get pressure points. After a bit of thinking I came up with my personal favorite: a clip with just one hole at the end (I beliefe from a chain of a pocket watch), latched to a piece of rope with the proper diameter and a knot at the end. This rope is turned into the corkscrew and there is the secure, flexible and removeable pocket clip to some SAK ( and a solution for the lesser talented as well...).

Wie geht's, Felix? It's amazing that Victorinox haven't really addressed the pocket clip issue, as there is evidently a big demand for them. Victorinox could make a nice little pile of money selling aftermarket scales with pocket clips fitted! Personally, I hate the ergonomics, and I usually end up taking pocket clips off the knives I buy that come with them - ironically, I sometimes then use them on small tools like magnetic pick-up tools, picks, screwdrivers etc, where they don't bother me so much! For SAKs, I'm more of a belt-pouch-carry kind of guy, but I can see this isn't suitable for everyone.

Y si de clips de acero para sujecion se trata, el de la imagen, parece ser de calidad, bueno al menos paso la prueba de sus propias exigencias. • @kvernesdotten

Im in the same camp where I generally dont like clips on my pocket tools because the compromise when using them is just too great, it absolutely suck when a sharp pocket clip digs into your hand while trying to do something. It makes me wonder why they all have to be this way? Is it cost? because the 25 dollar OEM one cant justify that.
Ive had this idea for a bit where I want to fabricate a custom clip where the clip is about the same width as the SAK it sits on, and has about the same curve as the inside of a hand, and goes on the side that meets your palm when the knife blade spesifically is open. Havent really gotten around to it, but it would be interesting to see if the increased bulk makes up for the ergonomics. If it works out, that clip could probably hold something like the pressurized pen or tweezers too, which means you could put thinner scales on it.
Oh well, just an idea though. Dont know if its gonna happen.

An excellent tutorial, & 3 options of mounting, although,,,,,, hehe I guess most SAK owners will say this,,,,
I don't think I would enjoy the feel of the clip in my hand,
However and scabbard or sheath with pop close top and a clip would be my option,
Maybe made from leather or wax cotton, or synthetic materials,
    COULD be out standing!

Can be inserted into the slot under the toothpick, the clip from the Shnaider K15 ballpoint pen. The pen itself is very cheap. The clip fits perfectly into the slot and keeps the knife in the pocket. You won't have to finish anything...) But you will have to give up the toothpick itself (.... I advise you to try it! If you don't like it - you can easily disassemble everything back. Many people who tried it - liked it. Use it for your health. Greetings from Ukraine 🇺 🇦

I have been using double sided foam tape, and plastic cable management hooks, and taoe the hook on the back spine. I carry the thicker knives, so the back spine is the "thickest" dimension, making the knife sit flusher in the pocket or belt. Also, the foam grips the metal pretty well, and I don't risk snapping the scales off because of overworking the plastic mounts that hold the scales in place. That's the weakest point with scale mounting a belt clip.

I wouldn't personally. Plastic will definitely get worn out quickly. And wood probably is too thin. My first knife is 35+ years old, i doubt it would last that long ;)
Perhaps on a metal scale? Edit, the counterplate is a good move imho. Or get a small holster / pouch you can clip or put on a belt?

I Don’t really want to modify my Swiss Army knife, which is a compact, do you know of a place I can buy a factory made quit product that I can screw into the lanyard hole. Again, this is for the Victorinox, compact knife, the one with the pen, a toothpick, and a tweezers? If you know of a place, please let me know. Thank you.

I don't like that the tweezers and toothpick are "upside down" with the clips. I made a leather loop that goes through my belt with a little clip and a short chain so my SAK hangs upright, the top of the knife just below my pocket.

A little bit of "screw glue" at the attachement points (very very tiny drops) can make the scales hold on a bit tighter when you put them back on. (Does require some time for the screw glue to "set" though). Screw glue is more like a "liquid gasket" if it's thje blue kind than a "glue."
