With a clip with a long back plate (scale side) I have used industrial strength double sided tape on one and velcro pads with adhesive backing on another. They work well, are durable, theoretically can be removed without damage to the scales. BUT these methods do add more thickness to the knife. With the screw methods, a little Locktite may be a good addition. As always, a great video.

Cool. But i use suspension clips + double sided adhesive tape. Best option for me. No need to remove and damage scales 😁 holds up fine for more than a year now..
I made this clip a few years ago on my RangerGrip knife. Just like your first option. But the second and third options are very interesting. I will try to do the same. They seem to me more reliable than the first. Thanks for the ideas

Fantastic video like always mr. Imler. I love watching you do things to Swiss Army knives that I would never do LOL as for Carrie options I had a custom leather pocket slip with an ulticlip made for my beloved swisschamp. Yes it fills the pocket but there isn't anything on this Earth that is worthy enough to be in the same pocket as my swisschamp
I think the black clip on the yellow knife would be perfect using the last method of mounting with the threaded aluminium. I prefer the shape as it'd carry deeper in the pocket. Either way great video thanks dude!
Outstanding demonstration, thank you for sharing. A while back I purchased a clip that screws into the keyring holder, it was okay. After about a week I realized the keyring was needed for a lanyard, also it was not worth the price of $20, it was returned. Now I have a bent wire holding the SAK, cost nothing.
Mr. Felix. Your videos are interesting and interesting, they inspire and are very useful. It's a great honor to watch and subscribe to your channel. I wish you a lot of health and serenity.
Why dont you put the saks in a plastic bag before putting it in warm water? I do this to not have to dry them. Cool video. I love that Victorinox invented a clip for the Swisstools, they are very good, wish they would think of a version for all their saks.
Hello Felix A good job as always! I tried different positions of a clip mounted to the scales, but I found nothing that satisfied me. The Clip is always in the way or I get pressure points. After a bit of thinking I came up with my personal favorite: a clip with just one hole at the end (I beliefe from a chain of a pocket watch), latched to a piece of rope with the proper diameter and a knot at the end. This rope is turned into the corkscrew and there is the secure, flexible and removeable pocket clip to some SAK ( and a solution for the lesser talented as well...).
Good Friday to you Felix. I would go with the backing plate option. Your video got me thinking about some old knife clips. Thanks for the inspiration. Bravo.

Interesting conversation. I agree with you. The clip in the end would create a hot spot on the knife handle. I know just within my tool selections with the handles that even with certain screw driver handles as an example, that depending on the task and how much torque and pressure you may need to use that the ergonomics of the handle makes all the difference. This is right up my alley! So much so that I already have some clips waiting for me to install - happy to see you do it first Felix so I can see how it's done! I really wasn't confident the plastic scale would be strong enough. One of the clips I bought is made from titanium. It was more expensive and completely unnecessary, but I noticed it seems to have less spring tension than the steel clips. I figured that might be nice to avoid pulling too hard on the scale.
I use Keysmart Nano Clips on some of my Swiss Army Knives, they work great as a pocket clip, require no customisation as they just attach to the keyring loop. They don't get in the way either.

Hi Felix, as always, supercool inspirational video! However I want to add the idea of creating a clip out of kydex and using a short rope to hang the knife inside your pocket. I read this in an online forum and tried it for myself. Of course you have something hanging on your knife which is a bit clumsy but at least it does not create hot spots in the hand.
An excellent tutorial, & 3 options of mounting, although,,,,,, hehe I guess most SAK owners will say this,,,, I don't think I would enjoy the feel of the clip in my hand, However and scabbard or sheath with pop close top and a clip would be my option, Maybe made from leather or wax cotton, or synthetic materials, COULD be out standing!
I had some plus scales for the 85mm Victorinox Evolution line that I had gotten from shapeways that I was able to put a pocket clip onto. Used some 1/16 aluminum sheet metal as added support that I drilled/tapped into for the screws (the scales had a space large enough for a small filed square of it to fit into). Ended up being in basically the same location as in the third clip style just on the scale side that doesn't have cutouts for the phillips/corkscrew tools.
Great video Felix, Victorinox should do a clip version in pocket friendly (thin) selected knives and, they should absolutely do a "large" one handed Huntsman (scissors and saw with a one-handed blade). Thanks again for the great video sir...I like clips but not on my beloved SAK.
I have been using double sided foam tape, and plastic cable management hooks, and taoe the hook on the back spine. I carry the thicker knives, so the back spine is the "thickest" dimension, making the knife sit flusher in the pocket or belt. Also, the foam grips the metal pretty well, and I don't risk snapping the scales off because of overworking the plastic mounts that hold the scales in place. That's the weakest point with scale mounting a belt clip.
Great job Felix,, I think Victorinox should offer most models with the pocket clip option, I certainly would buy one, in preference to the standard model,, 👍
I have bought those Chinese clips, I have several models. I don't doubt the strength of the clips or the strength of their attachment to the scales, but I really doubt the strength of the attachment of the scales to the handle. I think if you pull the clip a bit the grip can come off its fixing.
Wie geht's, Felix? It's amazing that Victorinox haven't really addressed the pocket clip issue, as there is evidently a big demand for them. Victorinox could make a nice little pile of money selling aftermarket scales with pocket clips fitted! Personally, I hate the ergonomics, and I usually end up taking pocket clips off the knives I buy that come with them - ironically, I sometimes then use them on small tools like magnetic pick-up tools, picks, screwdrivers etc, where they don't bother me so much! For SAKs, I'm more of a belt-pouch-carry kind of guy, but I can see this isn't suitable for everyone.
Thank you Felix for this video. I think this is a very interesting hack/MacGyver mod for a SAC. And the black clip you put on the yellow knife looks sharp (and unobtrusive). Even the install on that one didn't look too hard. The only part that gives me pause is removing the scales. I've heard they sometimes don't want to stay on as well once they've been removed. Though I suppose one could simply buy replacement scales and mount the clip to those and then swap the old scales for the new (modified ones). 🤔 I'll have to think about this... Definitely going to bookmark this video.
One idea to have a clip and no hot spot would be to design a scale that has a retractable clip. Something like the Lionsteel Thrill pocket clip, except on that one you deploy it by pushing from the other side. On a SAK scaled it would have to deploy differently, because you wouldn't be able to push it out from the other side.
Here in the UK there is an eBay vendor who sells replacement Victorinox scales, with these clips mounted. The price is only about £1 more than I'd pay for just the scales. I bought black plus scales (without the tweezers, pen etc. but I already had them) with a black clip, for my Climber, so aesthetically it's perfect. He did a very good job of it, he's glued the screw on the inside of the scale too. I'm really happy with it, I don't use my Climber for extended or heavy use, but it's become my go-to EDC SAK because of the clip. I'm considering buying a NightIze HipClip, which is a silver glue on clip originally intended for mobile phones, for my Farmer X but I'm not sure as I do tend to use that for more heavy work out in the woods. I know it would hold fine as there's a guy on Reddit who did it years ago and his is still holding up well.
A little bit of "screw glue" at the attachement points (very very tiny drops) can make the scales hold on a bit tighter when you put them back on. (Does require some time for the screw glue to "set" though). Screw glue is more like a "liquid gasket" if it's thje blue kind than a "glue."
Can be inserted into the slot under the toothpick, the clip from the Shnaider K15 ballpoint pen. The pen itself is very cheap. The clip fits perfectly into the slot and keeps the knife in the pocket. You won't have to finish anything...) But you will have to give up the toothpick itself (.... I advise you to try it! If you don't like it - you can easily disassemble everything back. Many people who tried it - liked it. Use it for your health. Greetings from Ukraine 🇺 🇦
Hey Felix, what do you think: would Victorinox profit from selling assembling kits of their knives? You could disassemble the knife it for cleaning. You could add some clips. This seems interesting and profitable to me.
victorinox is in the past and we, who like the brand, will be its last customers. The small portion of the new generation who still have an interest in the outdoors prefer leathernan and the like. Nextool and coldsteel have been making great products at great value for money.
With a clip with a long back plate (scale side) I have used industrial strength double sided tape on one and velcro pads with adhesive backing on another. They work well, are durable, theoretically can be removed without damage to the scales. BUT these methods do add more thickness to the knife.

Thank you!!
Would you sale me the black swiss knife
Hey Felix, what do you think: would Victorinox profit from selling assembling kits of their knives? You could disassemble the knife it for cleaning. You could add some clips. This seems interesting and profitable to me.
Yes for sure..
It's important that so many peoples as possible express this wish to Victorinox !! ideas.victorinox.com/de/idea/
Victorinox needs to make more than 1 or 2 models with clips, come into the 21st century. Put clip on knives = sell more knives
victorinox is in the past and we, who like the brand, will be its last customers. The small portion of the new generation who still have an interest in the outdoors prefer leathernan and the like. Nextool and coldsteel have been making great products at great value for money.
Thanks sir! Is the lock nuts you used in the second method are M2.5?
