    I think the main crux is this video. It is very important to get off self focus but I think there are not enough tool to get implement it. If we try to get off self focus by focusing on our breath of being aware of present moment then itself our mind goes on our self focus, if we try to focus on other person face I can see my facial expressions on his/her face. This is the point which I want to deal with as I think this is the point whereby we can get rid of our social anxiety.

    It's crazy, I've dealt with social anxiety on and off since I was a teenager. The first mentioning of "self focus" instantly resonated with me because this is exactly what I do when I'm starting to feel social anxiety. If I'm in the gym, I worry that people are looking at how I am lifting or what I look like or the actions I perform. Thank you for this series

    Can we say this has strong elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as well? Instead of changing our anxious thoughts in social situations, e.g "Everyone can see that I'm anxious", we try to acknowledge that it is just a thought without actively fighting it and changing it like we normally would do in CBT.

    • @bryan1377
      @bryan1377 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You have a bias to CBT. No sound therapist in social anxiety will strictly administer exposure therapy. Cognitive therapy is very important. We all believe one thing or the other that’s not true that’s the cognition, it’s because of those negative biases cognition you’re having to do exposure. That’s why called CBT. There’s no need for competition about which is the best therapy that’s not the purpose of therapy

    To say the truth I practiced to keep outward focus on the street/restoratunts/stores for a month. And it works very bad, when you feel anxious it's very hard to keep focus outward, it consumes a lot of energy, focus jumps from outward to inside. I didn't feel any progress after month of doing it

    I have a question regarding social anxiety and self esteem: Exposing myself to situations where i feel uncomfortable just makes my anxiety and self esteem worse and no matter how much i try to rationalize that i should see it as a learning expierience etc. it doesn't help.
    edit, forgot the question: what should i do if i can't expose myself to this new situations?

    • @firewolf7108
      @firewolf7108 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Same. This technique is meant for learning that nothing much actually happens when you expose yourself, but its a problem for me because sometuing bad dies happen every time :(

    • @michaelmichaelson6766
      @michaelmichaelson6766 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@firewolf7108 Yes, it works well for spiders etc. but in social situations bad things can happen. I guess we need to make very small steps or try meds. Sometimes you can only make a good expierence if you take a medication before a certain situation, but benzodiazepines can make you addicted so it should be an exception for therapeutic uses.

      @@firewolf7108 Its really not though. It’s to show that bad things can happen and that you should accept that possibility while not fighting your anxiety. And when those bad things happen, it’s usually not as bad as you imagined it.

    is it normal if it doesn't work for me? I've tired social exposure therapy before and its made it worse.
    My extreme social anxiety doesn't go away and I just feel tired and exhausted after, like angry at myself that I couldn't do it. Maybe that's because my anxiety is at the lowest of the low. And I'm also very introverted.
    But I can work around it. I have family and friends that support.

    What do you do in an environment like school where you just know that your social anxiety will lead to bullying? Do I just try to outpace the damage done by the bullying with exposure outside of school?

    • @maryktony5720
      @maryktony5720 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This can be very challenging if you are not already receiving therapy as exposure techniques are effective when you reach a stage where you are ready to start trying them with guidance from your therapist and especially if your situation is severe. Also, different tools are used for different safety behaviours, and with no guidance from a professional, you may not know what is effective and relevant to your issues.

    Hi. What should you do if you are not sure if you are depressed or have social anxiety?

    • @suhae2175
      @suhae2175 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You should probably try to get professionally diagnosed, but generally from my knowledge I'd say that depression is more like a lack of feeling along with trouble of getting motivated to do anything, you generally feel like nothing is worth trying anymore and maybe also that no one cares about you. Social anxiety on the other hand is more like extreme panic in any situation where there's a chance that people could judge you. In both mental ilnesses your self esteem is rather low. It is possible though to have both of them combined. I'm not 100% whether my explanation would be approved by a professional, but I hope I could help.

      I am not trained or licensed, but from my experience there is often a LOT of overlap between depression and social anxiety, they both feed into one another, and many people diagnosed with one are also diagnosed with the other (myself, for instance).

    Hey everyone, I’m currently trying to find out how one could make the lives of socially anxious people a lot
    easier ;)
    Which is why I have two very simple questions:
    1. As someone struggling with social anxiety, what are the 2 biggest issues you’re dealing with?
    2. Regarding your social anxiety, what would you wish for more than anything else?
    Thanks so much in advance - looking forward to reading your answers!

    • @DantheJamaican

      My social anxiety is getting much better, but I would say my 2 biggest difficulties are eye contact in crowds (when walking in a shopping centre for example) and saying goodbye to people.
      I would like to feel comfortable around people, especially new people and in crowds.
