Maui advice: When you arrive from the mainland you’ll be waking up early the first few days. I’m usually walking the beaches at 3 AM my first day because I can’t fall back asleep with my sleep cycle on mainland time. We like to drive up Haleakala and do the sunrise that first morning. The stars, the cold, vast Pacific Ocean view and sunrise really make you feel alive and kicks off your trip in a fun way.
If you’re going to Oahu you gotta stop by the aloha stadium swap meet. It’s a great one stop shop for all your souvenirs and you’re supporting local businesses too
As someone who lives in Lahaina, don’t ask your servers, your bell men or anyone you interact with about the fires, and if they lost a home or a loved one. Just assume everyone you interact with on West Maui, and all of Maui that they were affected and show compassion. Tip cash if you can. Many of us have reduced work hours and days and could use the cash for basic needs.
THE #1 TIP IS: Go 10 Days AFTER the Full Moon to AVOID JELLYFISH!!!!! No One ever talks about this but THAT is the BEST Tip and it is 100% TRUE!!! Jellyfish come out 8 to 10 days AFTER the FULL MOON, and stay for a few Days so eitther come Before or AFTER...You are Very Welcome!! ALOHA!!!!
This happened to us at Ko’olina. Our kids were in the water with others and they all came out screaming. Another tip: there was a nurse on the beach with a bottle of vinegar, she put that on all the kids bites and it stopped stinging!!
Tip: plan some early morning activities (i.e. sunrise hikes) for the first few days of your trip. You're going to be waking up around 3:00 or 4:00 with the jet lag, so these are the perfect days to make the most of your early mornings. You won't "waste" that extra time by not having a plan for how to spend those mornings.
Don't for get about the East Coast folks. With the 6 hour difference we're looking at naturally getting up at 12am-1am 🤦🏽♀️. Along with a 12-13 hour flight time!
I've been to Hawaii once, for 13 nights, ten years ago. I did 5 nights on Oahu, 4 on Maui, and 4 on Big. I did a ton of stuff there, but I booked only one paid activity for each island. Full day photography tour on Oahu. Bike ride down Haleakalā on Maui. Snorkel trip to Kealakekua Bay on Big. They were all great choices. The length of time on each island was good, and each activity I booked was amazing! I've been to all fifty states, and Hawaii is my favorite. Highly recommend it if you've never been!
Started planning my family's first visit to Hawaii. Deciding on an itinerary was a little overwhelming. Picked up The Hawaii Vacation Guide Oahu itinerary and wow! Curated experiences to travel like a local. Highly recommend! Travel tip: I use a travel planner app on my phone so that I can easily view our daily itinerary, so we never miss a reservation.
We are long time regular visitors of Maui, but we’re still so hesitant to return (our timeshare is located in Ka’anapali), because so many residents are still displaced and deeply grieving. We want to help support the economy, but also want to be respectful of those who don’t want us there. We went to Kauai for the first time in October, and it was absolutely wonderful, the North Shore is Gorgeous, we will return.❤
Two years ago, I used your videos to plan my wife's and my first Hawaii vacation. This year, we are using your videos again to plan our THIRD trip. I recommend your videos on a few Facebook Hawaii pages. So helpful.
That is awesome! Thanks for coming back for some more. Enjoy the trip planning for your third trip and thanks so much for sharing on Facebook groups. That helps a lot.
Travel tip: if there’s an activity you really care about, book it at the start of your trip and maybe even book it twice if you’re going at a popular time so you have a backup date since things can be booked very far out in advance during peak tourism times. This worked perfectly for us and our helicopter tour over Christmas in Kauai. Booked it for the first and last day of our trip and I’m SO glad I did. The first tour got canceled due to weather and they didn’t have another opening until after new years. I’m so glad I had a backup tour planned and ready to go. If things went to plan I would’ve canceled the backup tour within their 48-hour cancelation window and gotten a full refund.
Second Tip: If you're into scuba diving and going to Hawai'i (Big Island), we have to recommend Jack's Diving Locker in Kailua-Kona. My wife got her open water cert with them (pool and open water dives) back in August. Awesome staff. Great gear and boats. Also: MANTAS!!
Love your videos! It would be interesting to see a video with booking through travel sites, like the flight and lodging together (vacations united, Costco, etc), versus booking the flight and lodging separately.
We are going to Hawaii at the end of May, and I know you suggested Maui for the first visit, but we really felt called to the Big Island. My 16yo wants to visit the observatory and the volcano. We're also looking at night swimming with the Manta Rays. I've bought your itinerary guide and already have been making heavy use of it. We're spending 6 nights at Kailua-Kona and 3 nights in Volcano. My 14 yo has some health issues, so we can't do long, vigorous hikes, but she has made so much physical therapy progress in the last 18 months! We're really excited and you guys have been so helpful.
Sounds fantastic! Some of the lava fields are open plains of black rock. The best hikes are around the caldera and the lava tubes. None of those are very vigorous. The caldera rim may not be fully accessible as they have not yet rebuilt accessible facilities since the caldera expanded during the eruption and subsidence of the last few years.
If you want a guide for Volcanoes National Park. Scott at Apua Hawaii Tours does an excellent job. He has a YT channel as well). Glad your daughter is doing well in PT. Enjoy your trip! We’re going next week 😎
Start with devastation trail or a quick hike near the steam vents. Those are flat and scenic. Kilauea Iki is good but more moderate. Have a great trip and thanks for grabbing our guide!
We love the Kihei Maui area, stayed in various condos, some are right on the beach. Handy grocery shopping at Safeway and Times . Many restaurants and food trucks, Gannons has a new owner ,Gatherings, for both the dining on the green and the General store upcountry. Merrimans reno at the Mana Kai is underway and promises to be a beach front destination. And the new steak house joins at the Wailea shopping mall . Driving south to the end of the road ,a bit challenging once it’s a single lane with blind corners and hills, offers a walk across the lava field ,secluded beaches and the surprise of the goat farm. You’ll see the black goats blending in with the surrounding but the roam everywhere. Mornings are generally quiet with trades picking up in the afternoons Love it !
Must go Channel for new time Hawaiian explorers and for those want to stay updated. Thanks Jordan and Erica for providing great content and updates. Just returned from Kauai a few months ago and recommend a helicopter flight of the Napili Coast. Maui felt magical and we look forward to returning there soon. Big Island is where it all started for our family and we haven't stopped looking for flights to the Hawaiian Islands since then from the mainland. All experiences was well worth our money! Aloha!
we are all about the food trucks and local restaurants!!!! we are going back for our 3rd trip next summer- Oahu and Kauai are the 2 islands we've been to previously and we are looking forward to exploring them even more.
Have a wonderful trip this summer! Thanks for eating local. Food trucks on the islands are excellent. See our Kauai favorites here thehawaiivacationguide.com/kauai-food-trucks/
We still swear by Costco Travel for car rentals, always. They also let you book without ANY prepayment and you can cancel for FREE anytime, over and over, and rebook if the price lessens (which it likely will; not always, but likely.) As many months in advance allow for the best prices to cherry pick from on both Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton Honors (both free to join) and we use the former most, the latter more and more this past year. Always see a Hawaiian Cultural Park each visit too! Safe travels everyone to Hawaiian Kingdom!
Travel tip: plan your high risk activities early in the trip. The boat ride that might not go in bad weather or high seas. The whale watch that might kr might not have a whale sighting. The guided hike that wont be good if you have excessive rain... Guarantees from tours dont help if you have to leave the next day and cant use them.
that is a wonderful trip. Front load your trip so you can reschedule. What you learn from the local guides can also make the rest of your stay more insightful.
Was in Hawaii in Dec 23. Stayed on Maui and the Big Island. Had a wonderful time. Didn't want to leave. On Maui, looking to fill some time, visit the Aquarium. Also, don't feed the chickens.
For accommodation, we always rent other people’s timeshares. You get a condo, with kitchen, washer, dryer, bedrooms, lots of room, combined with amenities of hotel. Especially great for families. We use redweek. On Maui in Kaanapali, Hyatt Vacation Club is nicest, Marriott is also nice. Costco has worked best for us for car rental. Free cancellation if prices go cheaper and cheapest prices.
Thanks for the video! I really appreciated your help with planning our trip to Maui...AND your guidance when we had to cancel last. August. Hopefully we end up making it back there!
Happy with our spending, just back from 10 days on Big Island, familly of 3 with car rental where we really been all around visiting and exploring for about 7 000 CAD so about 5200$ USD. The trick to save is to avoid hotels and find a condo rental so you can cook and prepare some food. Hotels in Hawaii are just absolutely crazy overpriced !
Aloha!!! First off I just wanna thank you Jordan and Erica!!! My girlfriend and I just returned from Maui and we had a BLAST. Followed many of your tips, booked a few things from your guys’ website and man am I glad! Had this amazing channel not existed I don’t think our time in Maui would have been as magical and stress free as it was! Big ups discount Hawaii car rental (saved us well over $1,000) We did the road to Hana three different times on our 10 day trip, and your videos on it as well as the Shaka guide made me feel like a local (even had a couple fellow Tourists ask if we were just bc we were in the know of all the little spots) Went up to Haleakalā (amazing, missed the sunrise but will for sure be there for my next trip) Hit plenty of the food spots you guys have mentioned (the seafood platter at kitoko was fantastic!) Again I just wanna say thank you guys for all the videos, I was never so excited for an upcoming vacation not only because, well it’s Hawaii! But I just felt so prepared and felt almost like I had been to Maui before I had even been! Mahalo!
Wow! You had a great trip and I’m glad we helped. 10 days is a great length and you filled it up well. Thanks so much for sharing and for mentioning Kitoko. Such a great place. Mahalo!
TIP: Flights to Hawaii from the US East Coast can be cheaper than to the Caribbean and Mexico (sometimes are even shorter in duration... crazy)! We booked a round trip flight from Boston to Kailua-Kona for the end of February for $500 per person back in November. Hotel and vacation rentals were similar in price. So back to Hawai'i!!
Great timing with this video, we just booked a NYE trip to Maui and are pumped to get back! Any suggestions for NYEs/Day activities with the kids? Hope you’re both doing great!
Thank you for another great video! It brought back many fond memories of being in Hawaii with my family. You are just the cutest couple! Your cousin Mike from NC
I just LOVE you guys!!! My hubby and I are headed to Maui for a marathon (again) that used to end in Lahaina. This year, it's rerouted to end a few miles before the park there. THANK YOU for your lovely and wonderful information!!!
Thanks for watching Heidi and glad to hear you're going back for the marathon! Enjoy the run and the trip to Maui! Our Maui Guide 2024 is coming out soon.
We had a trip booked last year on Maui in Kehie for our 50th Anniversary in March. Well my father in law died two weeks ahead of trip so we canceled. Here we are in Jan 2024 thinking about booking a trip to Hawaii again. We love Maui but with all the backlash from the fires in Lahaina we are second guessing our decisions. Thinking about maybe Kauai which we haven’t stoped at for about 10 yrs. We remember spending most of our time on Kauai at Poi po beach being the drier side of island.🤔 Do you guys have any recommendations?
Just so everyone knows, the Old Lahaina Luau will be welcoming guests back starting March 12, 2024. We were there in 2019 and it was a beautiful evening of good food and beautiful performances.
My spending budget for a family with 2 adults, 2 children, and 1 infant is $10,000. I will me cooking breakfast and dinner in the room and lunch will be bought on the outside. Besides the luau day. This will be a 7 day trip. I will definitely stick to the budget and not go over!

My tip is avoid the leeward side of Oahu. Now, people in the Wai’anae Moku aren’t bad. A lot of us are actually chill despite the popular belief that people form Wai’anae and Nānākuli always like scrap or whatever. We just heavily connected to our culture and there are some sacred spots there, there’s one in Pokai Bay. My tutu told me about Hokule’a and the connection it has to this structure in Pokai Bay. But if you’re planning on going to the beach I wouldn’t go Wai’anae. The beaches are great but right now there are many homeless on the beach so it’s hard to find a good spot while also being concern about keiki’s safety.
We appreciate that detailed tip on Wai’anae. When I lived in Oahu, I’d go out there for scuba trips but the recommendation was to let the local community have their space. Folks tell us to recommend tourism there but it doesn’t feel right so we don’t. You give a healthy dose of context.
Great video as always. I laughed on the bloopers when Jordan says th wrong number...hhahahahaha Yes I love supporting the local and will be supporting as always. And wow what stuff are you feeding your daughter. She seems to be grown really fast.
Also: To the price. There are 2 bed private rooms in hostels for around 100$ a night. I stayed 10 days. Without some other fees that I no longer will pay along with some mishaps on the island. I spent around 3500$
Hey! I watched your videos last year and booked Ko Olina this past February for the month! Your tips were very helpful...so thanks for that! we are booked again for the month of January again in Ko Olina....could not beat the price. We are interested in a bit of island hopping this time. You mentioned in this video some 'links' or tips for that.... I just could not find it....could be just me! Lol 😆 😆 I am interested in doing a couple of day trips( if possible) to Maui and Kauai. Thanks so much! Mahalo
Ko Olina is a great place. We visited on our last trip in March. The links and resources are in the video's description. Click See More or ...More under the title area. Here is our Island Hopping Guide: thehawaiivacationguide.com/hawaii-island-hopping/
I booked a trip to Hawaii kinda blindly when it comes to things to do, like I have no idea how to book things to do while being there lol one thing I really wanna to do is visit punaluu black sand beach! But I’ve heard you need to book it?! Help?!
Buy some hats. 🌴 It's easier to buy them here, than to travel with hats. Wear a hat for every occassion. You'll be glad you have hats with protection for neck and face, you'll be glad you have a hat when you're out shopping and dining. You'll be glad you have a good hat for riding the bus in Oahu, and one for hiking out to look at the volcano here on Big I. 🌋
yes and yes! Ka'anapali opened to visitor on November 1st. See our Maui Travel Update for details: thehawaiivacationguide.com/lahaina-maui-fire-update/
my wife & I are planning a Maui vacation April 5-13, looking to chill on beach & pool 2 days then Whale watching, zip line, dinner cruise, road to Hona. Should we stay at Sheraton or Westin in Ka'anapali? First timers. Thanx
We like the Westin more for the pools, closer to restaurants, and newly remodeled. thehawaiivacationguide.com/stay/westin-kaanapali-review/ have a great trip! See our website for tour recommendations!
The Governor wants some rentals for the displaced Lahaina residents. That is a good thing. What if I already booked a condo for February? What are the odds of losing the condo?
We are hopeful the governor takes action on making more properties available for long term rentals. I am not sure what will happen with existing reservations. Perhaps book a hotel with a cancellation policy for a backup.
Apparently I'm the only one who stays up and drinks the 1st night....and wakes up at 7am???? ; ) (not walking the beach at 0300...) Great advice as always guys.
Hi! We were recently snorkeling at Hulopo'e Beach and the Four Seasons beach guide said that there were Portuguese Man O war sightings. He said the sting hurt a little but was no big deal. Walking out we saw a lot of blue jellyfish on the sand. We snorkeled anyway but I was nervous because I have heard they are really bad. So, have you been stung by a Man O War? How bad is it? Thanks! You two are the best!
I have been stung by Portuguese man of war twice - separate days, same beach but SC not Hawaii. Birn like🔥 -10 out of 10. For some reason Sea Breeze helped. Years ago but I'm still mildly phobic about them.
Hey, Thank you so much for your tips. I am planning a trip to Maui in a few months. As I can’t drive, do Uber/ Lyft work there and if yes, how late can I book because I will have to book my flight time accordingly.
Any peeps from Obama about the Laihaina land grab, after all, it is his home state. Stop by and ask him in Waimanalo, the estate he paid 8.5 million for, the place they filmed Magnum PI at. Its down the beach from Lanikai where he vacationed with his family.

I thought Hawaiian residents didn’t want tourists due to the tourists wrecking Hawaii’s natural beauty, is this false?

I’m going may 15 to may 22 as there’s a full moon April 23 and then there’s not another until may 23

Thanks for all the great advice! Love your videos so much❤
Thanks so much Brenda!
I love your videos and newsletter! heading to Kauai this year
thanks for being a member of our newsletter!! Enjoy your trip to Kauai. I'm glad I sent out that Kauai guide two weeks ago.
Great timing with this video, we just booked a NYE trip to Maui and are pumped to get back! Any suggestions for NYEs/Day activities with the kids? Hope you’re both doing great!
Going to the big island to visit family in April for 10 days and one day trip to Oahu to go to the Pearl Harbor memorial!
Have a great trip! Enjoy the island hop
Thank you for another great video!
It brought back many fond memories of being in Hawaii with my family.
You are just the cutest couple!
Your cousin Mike from NC
Thanks for the lovely comment Mike!
thank you . good info .
Thank you for your Maui guide! We are here for family vacation and if it wasn’t for your guide we wouldn’t be able to see so many amazing places!
Have a wonderful trip! Thanks for leaving a review on our itinerary. Maui is the best.
We are travelling to O’ahu this early February! Can’t wait!!
Any tips about the weather this period?
Going to Maui in two weeks for our honeymoon 🤗 we’re so excited !
Happy honeymoon! We have things to do for honeymooners on Maui here: thehawaiivacationguide.com/maui-for-couples/
My spending budget for a family with 2 adults, 2 children, and 1 infant is $10,000. I will me cooking breakfast and dinner in the room and lunch will be bought on the outside. Besides the luau day. This will be a 7 day trip. I will definitely stick to the budget and not go over!
Great video going to Oahu Aug-16th to 24 this year.

Great to see you both! Looking good and the kids are growing so fast. You moved to the mainland?
Great video as always. I laughed on the bloopers when Jordan says th wrong number...hhahahahaha Yes I love supporting the local and will be supporting as always. And wow what stuff are you feeding your daughter. She seems to be grown really fast.
Growing super fast! Thanks for watching till the end!
BIG ISLAND MO BETTAH! MOKU O KEAWE!
Thank you for the great videos and insights! Both are much appreciated. We are going in Jan to Hawaii and cannot wait! Mahalo for all the trip tips!
Have a wonderful trip in January! Thanks for watching. You’ll have a blast
Loved the video!! I saw you guys said you don’t live in Maui anymore, are you back on Oahu? I can’t wait till the day I can live in Hawaii!!! 🎉🎉
we moved to the mainland as our folks needed us. We go back frequently now!
Where do you recommend for an all inclusive?
Hawaii resorts don’t offer all inclusives. Some have packages that include breakfast.
Already gone once, it might be a back to back spot.
TIP: plan early & if you find a deal on a hotel grab it! We saved over $1700 on our hotel stay. Prices go up & down. 🌺
that is a great tip! Prices do change so check often.
I’m going to Hawaii in May.
Have a wonderful trip!
Smart
That’s a great tip! Thanks for sharing.
how many times a year do yall travel to hawaii?
Four times a year and we stay for two weeks each, about.
In Kauai, is it cheaper to stay at an Airbnb and buy groceries for food or to stay at a resort and eat out?
Is kaanapali open? Is it ok to visit other places in west maui other than Lahaina town?
yes and yes! Ka'anapali opened to visitor on November 1st. See our Maui Travel Update for details: thehawaiivacationguide.com/lahaina-maui-fire-update/
What about best island for partying?
Hawaii isn’t a party place but you’ll find the most bars and some clubs on Oahu in Waikiki
which is the best island to go to in September
See this article thehawaiivacationguide.com/hawaii-in-september/
my wife & I are planning a Maui vacation April 5-13, looking to chill on beach & pool 2 days then Whale watching, zip line, dinner cruise, road to Hona.
So we won’t see you running through Waikiki at 4am?
Maybe 0430!@@TheHawaiiVacationGuide
I’ve gone to Ohau twice and both times it’s been exactly $8000 for two adults lol
haha! glad to hear our estimate is a good one! Thanks for sharing!
We’ve seen one on the beach only once and we’ve not been stung. I heard it is painful. Hulopoe is a gorgeous spot!
I have been stung by Portuguese man of war twice - separate days, same beach but SC not Hawaii. Birn like🔥 -10 out of 10. For some reason Sea Breeze helped. Years ago but I'm still mildly phobic about them.
Which island has the mountains above the clouds? I thought it was Hawa'ii but watching this I see Maui.
Maui and the Big Island have volcanoes above 10,000 ft. Haleakala is easier to get to the summit than Mauna Kea on the Big Island.
Hey, Thank you so much for your tips. I am planning a trip to Maui in a few months. As I can’t drive, do Uber/ Lyft work there and if yes, how late can I book because I will have to book my flight time accordingly.
here are tips for getting around Maui without a rental car: thehawaiivacationguide.com/how-to-get-around-maui-without-a-car/
Yes there is Uber. Just wouldn’t arrive too late in the evening. But there are taxis at airport
Has your Maui guide been updated since the Lahaina fire?
yes, we have updated it twice since August 8th.
Excellent! Maybe we'll see you in February!@@TheHawaiiVacationGuide
Why does my search show the plane tickets are $700? I thought they’d be around 300, am I doing something wrong ?
Maybe I missed it, but I don’t see any tips for solo travel. Any tips?
Here are some tips thehawaiivacationguide.com/best-hawaiian-island-for-singles/
And don’t forget that chickens crow at 3am every day
When is the new moon?
Anyone have an experience about going to Hawaii in November? Where is a good place to go?

Pro Tip: bring less clothes than you think youll need 😅 less is more!

Any peeps from Obama about the Laihaina land grab, after all, it is his home state. Stop by and ask him in Waimanalo, the estate he paid 8.5 million for, the place they filmed Magnum PI at. Its down the beach from Lanikai where he vacationed with his family.
High prices and panhandling?
MANTA RAYS ALL ISLANDS
No way. There are too many more hospitable choices elsewhere. If I want grumpy company I can stay at work.
Why wouldn't Hawaii be open? It's a U.S. state. As a U.S. citizen, you have the right to travel to every state.
She said she said she's from Hawaii "do y know how to speak tagalog?"
Tang inamo😘
What a great guide!! You guys inspired us to move to Oahu!! 🫶❤️
