Wow! Such a moral people, bullshit. Where did all his people go? He is there making money and living for free. Using his culture to bash ours. The first 20 minutes are very hard to get through.
Get over yourself, thanks@@Alin_ho
Pete deserves a Pulitzer for his documentary and journalistic work out here across the US.
He’s amazing! I especially love this one as I have Family on Molokai 🧡
Agree
Look up how the Pulitzer came to be a prize and you might disagree
Absolutely agreed.
Pulitzer’s are given to regime propagandists only
“Everybody’s got a talent, everybody has a skill, everybody has something to trade. But not everybody has money” I’m taking that with me, much love❤️
Tell me a good joke. I’ll give you food. Love his perspective
He said it so perfectly. It touched me also. Knowledge for the soul.
In theory its true, but I've known people who just always take,& bring nothing to the party.
Personally, I think one day (perhaps sooner than later), this is the way we will all live. I certainly look forward to it.
This quote hit home for me
I love how Pete just lets people talk.
He’s learning too 😅
That’s how I’m able to listen to show like a podcast
Sometimes, less talk is better.
The art of true conversation is a dying art. Everyone wants to make their PT but seldom listen.
Would love to meet Peter seems like a very humble man and genuine !

LOVE HOW GREG WAS ALLOWED TO SHARE, UNINTERRUPTED, WITH UTMOST RESPECT!!
As a native Hawaiian, this man is speaking the truth , out of all your videos so far, this man is the most culture connected and culturally correct. This is a real Kānaka Maoli!
You are so right. Much aloha to him and all our Kānaka Maoli. I am so thankful to be born and raised in Hawai‘i. And to hear stories of old from our Kupuna. So many of which resonates and apply today in our modern ʻāina.

My son's a Marine out there, before he was stationed we had a talk about the honor and respect of culture and to value that. That if he wanted a true life friend to befriend a "local," that if was ever invited to those sacred places. To represent all our ancestors. 🕊🫂♾️💓🤙🏻🕯. 💦🌋🐕🎗

Kind of true :) Hawaii ones are great!! I spent 3 years there and miss it everyday. As a outsider without any family its difficult to survive 80% or more of my paycheck went to rent, but the trade off is you get to live in Hawaii 🤷♀ I just never saw myself getting ahead there or being able to feel secure. To be fair on the mainland maybe its a false sense of security. If things go south are you better off on a island where you're self-sustained thru community or on the mainland where you have easier access to things but also 50x the population and a lot of potentially bad apples.
Damn Peter, you have an extraordinary talent of not only interviewing people, but picking high-quality people/stories to share with us. This video is a perfect example.
incredible
Lifetime Hawaii resident and this series is one of the best on Hawaii. You met the real people and learned the culture and didn't just show the obvious beauty of Hawaii. You show true aloha.
I’ve had the privilege of being able to meet Greg and his father on two separate occasions. We got to catch some fish, farm taro, and visit the valley waterfall. Greg’s commitment to his land and the ancient culture of Molokai is truly extraordinary. I feel very lucky to have been able to have this experience with Greg.
awesome
@@000000000BABY I've been out to Halawa a few times as well. When I worry about 1m people learning about the Halawa Valley, I try to remember that the plane heading into MKK is a 9-seater, there are no more short term rental permits on the island, and the residents literally chased a small cruise tour off the island. It is a hard place to get to, and not an easy place to visit with the wrong mindset - most people, if they figure out how to get there at all, will be one and done. OTOH, I worry more about what happens to the ranch; the valley has some natural protections, as you know.

most exellent experience. i would love to be able to learn from this family
That's amazing! I would love to talk to him and learn more about his culture! I want to make a new education paradigm and am looking for indigenous people to become part of the process.
Just want to say, this comment section is one of the warmest and kindest on all of youtube, and I want to personally thank everyone who contributes to making this such a pleasant and informative space. Thanks everyone! 🙂
You’re so right!

You can learn a lot about the person by the people who watch them. There's too much division in this World. The government is trying to divide us & its working.
😘
Let Peter make a video talking to Black people and watch how " Unkind" and judgemental the comments get...lol
I love how Peter just observes, non+ judgementally, how others live. He's so respectful and I appreciate everything I've had the chance to learn through these interviews.
I think you don't read the title. He is promoting the traditional culture of those people, so he should listen, that is it. Is it wrong? It's true? is different topic.
@@somkaplan1563promoting culture doesn’t equate to being judgmental.
@@EphemeralProductions Absolutely, as humans, our capacity for judgment is a fundamental aspect of our intelligence. Just as we recognize fire as hot and ice as cold based on our senses and reasoning, we have the ability to discern between beliefs and realities. When it comes to cultural practices or beliefs, it's important to approach discussions with empathy and understanding. If someone holds beliefs that may seem questionable or unsupported by evidence, it's an opportunity for respectful dialogue. We can gently and constructively share alternative perspectives, helping each other explore the richness of diverse experiences and knowledge.
@@somkaplan1563 and that’s all exactly what Peter does. From all I’ve seen anyway
@EphemeralProductions no he doesn't and that is not his job.

@Theother1two34 I wonder who you're really so angry at?🤔
I love that Greg kept referring back to his father. What a knowledgeable man! Thank you Peter!!
As a kid in the Netherlands we always used to daydream about going to Hawaii without knowing what it really looked like.Turns out it’s more Beautiful than we could’ve imagined..✨👍🏼👀✨
Me too! Been there as well. It was so beautifull.
This guy is living in paradise. Imagine able to sustain yourself in such a beautiful place. Thank you Peter for giving us tours around areas that some of us will not ever make it to. Stay safe stay healthy
True kanaka kanaka warriors connected to their precious aina. They know.......
Mahalo
The land doesn't actually belong to him. It would be like you finding a forest and calling it your own. The entity of which it belongs will one day make it clear and he will find himself in the same shoes as the rest of us. He will then hate himself, the way he hates us, for having to work for his land and home. He says in this video he "just walks his land every day to cherish the stories his elders have told." That's the scope of his contributions and work. His little "elder" speel he repeats over and over has only worked because the actual land owner is being patient. Did you notice he really did not want to answer the question about where he sleeps when Peter was seeking clarity if he sleeps in the bed he claimed was "his wife's". He lies and still tells people he sleeps in the tent, but that hasn't been the case. He is a fake and one day the entity that actually owns that land will take it back on record.
@@xiapong6277I would imagine his family has kuleana rights to the land. If they have maintained constant occupancy and continued to caretake and farm, they have real rights to the access, the land, the water just as the person who holds the deed. And if so it is "their" land legally just as much as the deed holder's. This explains why he would separate from his wife and move from Oahu to the valley prior to his father's death, to assume the kuleana. Hawai'i is a unique place with a unique history, and some unique quirks of land and tenancy law because of it.
@@raez7155 This is often true, but there are many imposters whom have taken advantage of the "sharing." It comes through a lot in some people's disposition and overly eager entitlement mixed with insecurity. Exhausting the elder card is a massive red flag that even the best of imposters know. There is imposter written all over this feature compared to prior videos. Honesty is not hard but rather natural.
@@xiapong6277 as a non-Hawaiian person who maintains my own little piece of the aina, his lo'i (taro pond) speaks for itself. As well as the rest of his farm checks out. Things grow feet a week here and it's a lot of work to keep a small farm. He's not just taking walks and telling stories.
What an absolute gem this man is. Kind, grateful, level-headed, warm, common sense attitude, generous. Thank you for bringing us this story.

I have lived in Hawaii over 30 years. Although I know a lot about the people and culture, these interviews are priceless. I have learned so much more about Hawaii and the Hawaiian culture that I didn't know before. I am a family historian, these videos are priceless and it is great you are recording these stories so they can carry on for future genearations. Reminds me of how my ancestors lived in the outer Hebrides in Scotland. They to lived a very traditonal life, living off the land and the ocean and speaking their native Gaelic language. To this day, like Molakai and some of the other islands, small communities still exsist in the outer Hebrides in Scotland where they keep to their traditions and speak their native tongue of Gaelic, not English.
Hawaii needs to be independent of the US. We stole it, and it needs to be given back. If Trump is elected I hope Hawaii immediately secedes from the US. Trump will destroy the USA.
Sounds like another video series for Pete in the future.
Undoubtedly one of the best videos you have EVER made. This is beyond perfect; not an ounce of politics or divisiveness in sight
Got married in Kauai last month. Hawaii is a magical place. Protect the Hawaiians at all cost. The energy you feel from the people and the island is indescribable. You just have to be there to experience it. Hawaii isn’t Hawaii without Hawaiians. Mahalo! 🤙🏼
Congratulations! I got married 40 years ago this September on Oahu. Yes Hawaii is magical.
Rural Hawaiians love people with good angels. They all do but because of haoles with demons the urban Hawaiians have some barriers. Find a local bar. They all have food and they bring the kids and when they loosen up they start to hula for each other. Hula is ONLY performative. They are taught young and they do it for each other for life.
tbh hawaii is similar to singapore where i live except the mountains and all but the cultures are not that different we wear our tradition clothing like saree or veshti or sarong or chinese clothing just to how hawaiians wear theirs but different in style and meaning we are religious and mix cultures as well we both experienced ww2 and japanese attacks we also have colonialism and food isn't that different like papayas bananas same enviroment but difference we have our own styles and live very very far apart but either way we still have that vibrant culture.
Oprah owns it now..
🙏🙏🙏
Secrets die, sacred is shared. Peter you have the perfect personality, honesty, and humility to interview each and every personal cultural experience from an individual's perspective. You don't just showcase each person, you let us experience their lives, their hopes, their realities, their families, and neighbors. You can draw so much from one person that it makes me want to go there and live exactly as they do instead of take a vacation to a resort, whether it is in Appalachia, south side Chicago, deep desert Texas ranch, the reservations, or Moloka'i. The talent you have, and your wife in editing each episode so perfectly, is truly amazing! Saturday mornings are my mini vacation every week.
That’s so cool 😊 We thank you so much!

Born and raised in Hawaii. Still live here on the Big Island. I will never leave. Growing up, my family were always simple people. Always working and helping with “productive” work and help. Very selfless. I remember always helping neighbors and friends. Whether it be with their yards or giving salt or sugar for their cooking. Giving them a ride somewhere. Whatever it is, we were always taught to HELP others. Till this day my mindset and intentions have never changed. And I instilled it into my children. Hopefully they will carry it on to theirs. Also, my papa was an avid gardener. Till this day, I am the same. I grow most of our veggies right in our yard. I believe that every human on earth should have a good sense and intellect to be sustainable. At least a little. It’s a must. Much love and Aloha from your big island neighbor 🙏🏼❤️🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
I’m so happy you and your family are able to stay in Hawaii. There are more native Hawaiians living on the mainland than the islands. I meet them in the Pacific Northwest and Las Vegas. It’s the only way they can afford homes and land.
I was on the big island exploring for 3 weeks... I made it a mission to hike all 50 states, and the 50th state was my 50th state! I never felt ao attached to a place... the kindness, generosity, food, people, smell, etc, have taken over my brain...😂
You are truly blessed. ❤️ I have to much gratitude for the experience I had. I felt welcome, I felt cared for, and I felt at home so far from where I am from. ❤

@@LilyGazou mahalo 🙏🏼🤙🏼 And yes, many move away, SADLY, because of “money” reasons. Or more of a bigger word “FINANCIAL” reasons. I have 1st cousins that have moved to Las Vegas and to the upper north west. Oregon and Washington. They do come home to visit but to be honest, they weren’t brought up the same way as I did. More of a “get a degree and earn more money” type of environment. Which is ok I guess. But to me, the “aloha spirit” type of upbringing is something that will never disappear or fade. It trumps all money and power. It keeps me grounded. Humble. Simple. My mindset and heart will never change. To have the peace and quiet on my own land with nature around me is just to hard to move on from.

Congratulations Peter!!! I'm 81 now and this documentary was delightful. It brought my spirit back to my youth. I was not a true hippie, although my heart and spirit were always deeply connected to God's earth. My Poppa and Mom were country folks ahead of their time. I highly recommend anyone who's visiting Hawaii look into Eco Tourism, as a way of giving back a little while also learning a lot about the plants, culture, and ecology of the island. When we were on Oahu we volunteered at the Botanical Gardens on the north shore for a day helping to root out invasive plant species while preserving the medicinal and native plants. It's also a great way to see parts of the island you normally wouldn't be able to get to as a normal tourist.

Meeting Greg and his Dad was one of the most special days of our life. I have been fortunate to travel across the globe and see and experience lots of different cultures. In this video, I saw and felt nothing but joy from Greg; not the feeling of fleeting happiness but deep joy.
I was on Molokai back in February. I did not have the privilege to meet Greg and his family, but when I was at Halawa at the beach, I saw the heiau that I now know was created by Greg's family and I prayed there. Wow. Amazing to learn about this place that I unknowingly stumbled upon, but I could feel the sacredness of it without even knowing the history.
Beautiful, just beautiful. This man has life figured out. To Peter: yes the long form, low edits is why we watch you. You give the true perspective.

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. APPRECIATE WITH GREAT RESPECT THIS MAN, GREG AND HIS FAMILY, THIS FAB CULTURE!
Oh, thank you for this! I was stationed in Hawaii for 4 years and had many local friends, this man IS what Hawaiians are. It is so hard to use words to describe feelings that are so unique. Mahalo and Aloha
What a treat to see the real deal!. And it means so much to know that it's still alive and thriving.
I LOVE Greg's little house!!! Looks so cozy and full of love. That's all one needs. ❤ 🏝
Peter I am so very grateful for you going to these places that would never ever visit in my life. Peter you are expanding my world!
I love this guy and what he’s says is truth , just think how much happier we could be if we didn’t have to rely on money for everything and actually talked and traded even the little things in life .
Yes, but his wife does work & it sounds like he makes a living possibly with private tours & working with the university?
Bartering is still around. There was even a show on it back in the 2000s
@@lindylou3519And uses disposable plates and plastic utensils. Also saw some plastic water bottles (maybe the kids aren’t so keen to drink stream water). Regardless, interesting video.
I went to Hawaii in 2012 and it’s still a place I think of often, it’s forever engraved on my heart. No place like it.
You need to get out and travel more; many places like Hawaii, more beautiful places. Stay out of areas that the United States is/has occupied; they tend to fuck shit up!
@@TheConstitutionalGuardiankind of like you did here.
The heart of Hawai'i embraces you
Oh me too. I was there in 2019 and it forever changed me. I left a piece of myself there.
@@malibu64 you guys know that. Hawai'i embraces and if you are meant to go back it is a gift. Can take the girl or boy out of the island but you can not take the island out of the girl or boy🏝🥰🌺🌈
Very humble, spiritual person. I can relate to asking for permission from the elements of the environment to pass on the know knowledge. Watching from the Navajo Nation. Our traditional, medicine people practice the same, the calling of Spirits.
My grandfather was born and raised Halawa valley. His parents were Lot Loka Akina and Racheal Lahela Akina❣️ He always talked about how he had to work in the lo'i patches before and after school
This man has a kind wise kings countenance from another better era.
And here he is today.
Just a humble dude living life.
Sharing from the inside out.
Greg you are truly a royal treasure.
Many blessings and much aloha for sharing your culture, your views, your life and your ways brother.🤙👊✌
21:18 That's why, I watch your videos Peter, you don't over produce, or cut down your videos. I tell people, that your channel and Kirsten Dirksen's, are the best TH-cam channels.
I completely agree with your sentiment. I really enjoy both channels content👍
Every Saturday morning I look forward to @PeterSantenello dropping a new episode.
Thank you for highlighting perspectives I would not know about without this channel!!! I truly believe Peter is the great unifier of youtube, and I love that. 🙂
Thanks Peter for this another great story. I love how you give space to the person that you're talking to. There's no agenda or trying to guide the conversation to some point. Just listening and learning. Love and blessings from Finland to you and and people on this video.
Hey there Peter I’m from Iceland and I just wanted to let you know I love your videos so much they make me feel wonderful thanks to you I’m happy I hope you will explore Iceland one day 🇮🇸

Born & praise on Oahu, I'm 50% Hawaiian..went to Halawa valley only once, years ago ❤it's a very special & spiritual Ahapuaa! Love Halawa valley & the mama! So happy to see the last ohana of Halawa still carry on our Hawaiian culture ❤best way to live!
Mahalo Nui Loa Peter for doing a vedio on this special place❤
This just might be my favorite episode yet. You do such a great job at treating your guides with the utmost respect. Thanks for bringing it to all of us.
Having been stationed in Hawaii for 3 years, these videos brings me back all the memories the island has to offer! Mahalo Nui Loa for doing this!
This brought back so many memories of time with Greg and his father. I learned so much from their love of Hawaii.
I agree on the Pulitzer. Peter is extremely talented on documenting different cultures and lifestyles. Molokai is the place I would want to live off grid. Unbelievable beauty and lifestyle. Great job Peter on your Hawaiian series. Scott from Indiana
This guy 💗. So much insight. So full of knowledge. So positive, his hearty laughter. How he tells how it is, how things are and why is so true. Thank you so much Peter Santenello for letting us take part of his wisdom and his life together with you 🙏.
You found the Titus of Hawaii!
Titus is unique…I love Titus…
Yesss!!
I’ve been on this cultural hike and eaten some fruit from his garden ❤ I’m shocked to see someone on your videos I’ve met before!! Molokai was unforgettable
This is a beautiful video showcasing one of the most amazing cultures left in the modern world. Much respect to Greg for carrying on his families ancient traditions, much respect to you, Peter, for showing the utmost respect for his culture, his home, and his people. Very well done.
I am so glad your learning our culture Peter ❤ mahalo for your humility , my na'au feels that your genuine and will take it all in. I grew up similiar to Greg through my Gran Tutu and rest of the ohana, learning and appreciating everything around. Aloha to you Peter
Thank you Mr Peter Santenello. Your episodes bring peace, joy, education and hope to the world. ☺☕🐶🤙
As a person who has similar situation I'm glad he got to know his culture 💯
He may not be living in a Mansion but he is culturally wealthy which is a very enviable position in my eye's.
Stay blessed brother 🙌🏾
Many of us wish we had such a link to our land and ancestors.
@@Jordi_Llopis_i_Torregrosa96 That's what I'm implying.
Omg, what great stories! Greg is fantastic. I could listen to his stories ever day! I waa birn and raised here in Hilo and it was so interesting to listen to him. My son-in-law is from Moloka'i, born and raised. Thank you so much for sharing his knowledge!
Peter, Thank you! Thank you for going deep and bringing us what the “locals” that you meet want us to know. The truth! The Tradition! Something that I probably wouldn’t have learned even if I visited these same places. Truly amazing work. Great job…
