This week I challenged myself to play Pokemon Fire Red, and if I caught a pokemon, I had to crochet it!
This idea was inspired by Purplecliffes "If I catch it I buy it" series :)

Seen it mentioned in a couple of comments so I thought I'd pin this here: In the interest of transparency, some of this footage was recreated due to technical problems when recording. I think it's most noticeable in the poor game music sync through out, and occasionally I'll straight up teleport in odd ways. I'm flattered that some of you were watching close enough to notice. My mind still boggles that 82k people have watched it. Next time I'll remember to hit record and save myself the effort XD
At various points throughout I did also catch a Magmar and a Butterfree. I admit I did not make a Magmar or a Butterfree. Those "plotlines" were largely edited out for time and relevance. Just like the crushing disappointment that was the cave full of Eevees and Haunters. 😂

With minor mods the Articuno pattern would make an adorable Phoenix. i really hope you release all the patterns they are amazing!
Oooh then I could have a Frozen Nugget and a Spicy Nugget!
To add to that, make it thinner and add a long neck and you'd have a Moltrace.
I thought the other way around, i have a phoenix pattern and i thought 'hey i can use it to make articuno' lol
Okay but like... I will pay for all of these patterns. I'm a veteran crocheter but haaaaaate the process of puzzling out amigurumi patterns for some of my beloved Pokemon.
There are some official Pokemon crochet books. I got a couple of them but I would also love hers.

Was this a rom version of Fire Red? Boy, I would have loved to get legendary so early in the game.
It was a randomised rom! Once I got over the initial shock of Articuno replacing pidgey I was glad to have her on the team for sure!

Oh my word, that Articuno is amazing!!! It's somehow not even chibi despite being so small and simplified! I also love the Vilepetals and Gengar's little nubbin of a tail!

Great work! I have to say the gengar somehow became even more creepy with the large black pupils, instead of just plain red eyes. :D Someday I'd like to be able to make crochet patterns from scratch, so I can make any pokemon I want!
Really unique idea! Also really smart making it a randomizer so there is an equal chance for every pokemon to appear.

I love vulpix so much. I’ve crocheted a plushie of vulpix sitting down before. Sewing it all together though was really hard.

I know this video must have taken TONS of hard work but watching it was so calming to me!! And the way you broke down each pokemon into its individual parts was so interesting to watch - I will definitely be drawing out sketches of future patterns rather than relying on reference photos!!

This is such a fun idea for a video! I think you should do it again with another Pokémon game. The Vulpix is my favorite.
I have been trying the slip stitch technique for neater, straighter stripes but it’s not just the slip stitches. The slip stitch row needs to be in the back loops only AND the next row needs to be in the back loops only if the slip stitches (loose slip stitches are a must!) and I really like how it turns out. It’s so clean!
Ooh thanks for sharing about the slipstitch thing. I did BLO for the row of slipstitches, and then worked the next row as sc, but basically into the same backloops over the top of the slst...maybe I did it wrong XD

I had to come back and explain what happened after I watched this video.
Literally had only heard the word crochet before, no clue what it meant or how to do it. Since I was a kid I was in LOVE with Pokémon (and all kinds of critters and creatures). When I saw this video I knew I had to watch it because I love custom made plush like things.
When I tell you I did not expect to fall down a rabbit hole into a new hobby. I have now made 4 little creatures from her other tutorials and I’m working toward designing some for fun. So this video is a gateway and people should be warned that the cute little critters will trap you haha.
