    I found an easy way to get seals out without a puller: put two short sheet metal screws in the face of the seal at 3 and 9 o'clock. Leave them out about 1/8-3/16" and get a flat bar nail puller and pry them out side to side a little at a time. Piece-o-cake!

    So, I’m super jealous of how your old seals came out. The ones I had to remove were those old double-sided seals and no matter what I did I felt like they’d never come out. I tried like you did by prying and the metal just kept ripping. BUT, with a little persistence and some yelling at them, they eventually gave in 😆 The pullers work great, I can attest to that! Great video as usual, Seth, very informative!!

      65SEEJAYFIVE thanks! Yes, those double sided seals are terrible to remove. That’s why I prefer the timkin seals. They still have the double lip but they are easy to remove when they inevitably start leaking again. Haha!

    I did machinist work tearing into gear boxes on equipment. To get the seals out sometimes we would drive screws on each side of the seal and yanked em out with vise grips/prybar. It worked good but our stuff usually wasn't all rusty and corroded.

    • @StehHiesher
      @StehHiesher  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Full Throttle sometimes that works but the metal on some seals is so thing and cheaply made that the screws pull out. 😞

    Is it normal for the dana 18 to make loud gear noise at 45+ mph when you are light on the gas? If I have my foot in it, it's fairly quiet, off the gas...no noise. Mine is a 66 V6 tuxedo park

    • @StehHiesher
      @StehHiesher  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, that’s fairly normal. Check to make sure it’s not getting to hot.. 125-150 is normal. You can also drain the oil and check for debris. A little gold sparkle is normal. Heavy sparkle or chunks is not normal.

    I have the double lip seal and it's very stuck. I've been doing this stuff for many years and this is the worst possible case. I'm accepting ideas!

      If all the normal things don’t work remove the shafts…use a carbide burr or cut off wheel to solicit it in half and chip it out. 👍
