This guy gives me a lot to think about. I appreciate all the effort even when it’s with questionable results. Helps me to consider a strategy for my own drain pan issues.
$10 Versus $5K to $8K AC replacement!!! I'll go with the $10 every day of the week!!! You thought out of the box and with total unorthodox creativity and unbelievably, this is exactly my problem. I'm going downstairs now to tear the cover off of the evaporator coil section... Thanks for the inspiration!!!
I bought some gutter sheet metal for less than $2 and some gutter sealant for $8. Bent and cut the sheet metal to insert it into the rusty leaking drain pan. Did a fit test then pulled out the sheet metal, used the sealant between the sheet metal and the drain pan and inserted the sheet metal squishing it down into the pan until the sealant oozed out all around the inserted sheet metal and wiped off the excess sealant. The sealant works in wet conditions so it worked great. This allowed me to use the same drain hole. Your video inspired me to try this option. Thank you!
Oh yessir!!! I’m in the same situation now as, I came home last night and saw a water bubble on the ceiling upstairs. I have been looking all morning for a sealant I can use to cover the bottom of pan until I find a better solution….but I was thinking very similar to what you have said. My indoor unit sits on top of styrofoam blocks 🤦🏻♂️ Thanks for sharing!!
I love your attitude… your video helped me a lot 😀I was really mad finding my drain pan completely rusted out,it’s been a week of stuff breaking..After watching ur vid, I realized I ain’t only one …🙃it’s all about a good attitude make it fun and just get it done.. thanks for being real…
Thought real hard for about 60 seconds to try this on my 30 year old AC. Got a replacement quote for 6,000 bucks. Bought a new replacement unit online delivered for 2,000 bucks. Will do 95% of the work myself and then have my AC person come out and finish it off.
I have the same unit in my house and have the same problem. In my case the pvc connection from the tray broke and had to find a way to fix it without having to replace the tray for now. These video helped a lot, thanks.
I laughed so hard at this I cried. Cock it up. This guy needs a Netflix show. Just like this. I think this is the only youtube comment from me online in 10 yrs. The wine cap.
I’m jealous. You have a ton of room under your rusted out pan. My air handler is in the attic, and mounted horizontally. I’m fighting with epoxy and sheet metal as I type this. Great job.
@@dork3nergy My "fix" is holding up (so far about 12 hours). My pan wasn't terrible but it was leaking - and it is in a furnace stack that is only accessible from underneath (coils are plumbed in place so I can't move them at all). I used window/door silicone. If the pan gets worse I will be building a gutter but that will be challenging because the pan is not a solid square/rectangular shape - it really isn't a pan at all, more like a channel in the shape of a rectangle (hope that makes sense).
@@poison_lembas I did consider flexseal and bought some duck patch (generally used on roof) as backups. The duck patch was interesting because it says it will adhere/cure on wet surfaces. However, it also says that it contains petroleum distillates so it has a flammable/combustible warning (concerning being right above the furnace). @DorkEnergy - doesn't everything contain petroleum distillates (like the rust inhibitor used in this video). Flexseal would be my backup to the duck patch backup (have not had much luck with "as seen on tv" stuff like flexseal). High grade silicone is pretty awesome stuff and I've used it in a lot of applications so I was pretty confident with it.
@@aaandersonmn Good point about the flexseal and duckseal but I think most of the volatiles would flash off as it cures. Don't quote me on that though. Silicone seems like an excellent option as well. Just tape the underside of the pan and fill er up. Odd they don't make those trays out of plastic eh.
As a HVAC tech now for 30 years I would have to say you made me laugh. If I saw a guy doing this on the job I would smack him in the head, duct tape his mouth shut and force him to watch me fix it the right way. For $50 you could have gotten the right pan and replaced it in under an hour.
What model is this and will you fly out to LA to work on mine? That drip tray is rusted and every tech so far wants to replace fully functioning coils, i.e. upgharge for more funds. It's such a market scam in the industry.
It 's an old RUUD Deluxe High Efficiency. No idea what model it is. Interesting that they don't make the drip tray out of something that won't rust eh.
We had a drain pan leak below our evaporator coils as well. I found about a 3" thin rip in the pan. Called an HVAC specialist and he suggested we try a waterproof sealant. He was able to pull the coils out just enough to get to the tear and apply the sealer without disconnecting anything. I kept the unit off for about 5 hours and darned if the sealer didn't work. The cost was about $90, but could have been far worse.
This guy is hysterical minus the skin a cat comment. My pan is leaking out of bottom. i see no cracks or holes. Unfortunately, i don’t have the tools he has to fix it.
oh yeah, you "may" get condensate on bottom of new pan*, watch for it, as the water will destroy wood over time, (paint the wood on all sides heavily if so). dripping/running where you don't want it. *The cold water in the new drip pan will make the whole pan very cold which will condense water from the air on the bottom and sides, which will clump and run/drip, its not from a leak in the pan, but more like the water that forms from air on the side of you ice tea glass.
Yup. Know that now because the starting capacitor and blower motor just shit the bed on me. It is fun not knowing what anything is really called though.
I would have loved this video without the foul language. It really detracted from what you are trying to impart.....you can fix it yourself with a little thought and ingenuity.
This guy gives me a lot to think about. I appreciate all the effort even when it’s with questionable results. Helps me to consider a strategy for my own drain pan issues.
This is the way we fix things in real life. I was watching and thinking that I was watching myself, cursing and all. GREAT VIDEO!
The best way not to fix something

No problem. Glad it helped. My fix is still working just fine 4 years later ^_^d
Love this VIDEO it should have a million views, this is how real life repairs go. I think this is your calling yesssss PEACE
This is by far the best diy video I have ever seen. I was entertained the whole time. This guy is great. Love it.
Yes, I felt the same way!!
Thanks for posting this video, I built a whole new drip tray for mine using your technique .
That's awesome. Glad it worked for you. Mine is still going strong.

You built a drain pan for your drain pan and probably saved $thousands. Brilliant.

Hey Angelo. Glad this helps. Good luck with the repair!
I laughed so hard at this I cried. Cock it up. This guy needs a Netflix show. Just like this. I think this is the only youtube comment from me online in 10 yrs. The wine cap.
Okay. I laughed my ass off & I learned something. Definitely worth watching. Why are drain pans SO f***ing difficult? Proprietary. That’s why.
I’m jealous. You have a ton of room under your rusted out pan. My air handler is in the attic, and mounted horizontally. I’m fighting with epoxy and sheet metal as I type this. Great job.
That's rough. Those attic units are a pain in the arse plus it likely means you don't have a basement. Good luck with it mate.
First time I've ever laughed during a fix-it video. I love the when you snap like a twig when shit doesn't work. Subbed!
Glad you enjoyed it. I'm just feeling my way in the dark here. :)
Maybe others have mentioned this, but that's not the "condenser coil", it's the "evaporator coil". The condenser coil is the one that is outside.
Dude this is the most entertaining DIY video I have ever watched!! 👏🏼
Thanks Alberto.
Yes!!
I'm in the same boat. And it's like watching myself. Red Green really taught us well.
Hehe...Red Green! Of course! Now it all makes sense ^_^d

@@aaandersonmn That does make sense. A quick fix might be using Flexseal. I don't think it existed when I made this video but it might be worth a try.

This dude is a goof but he's hilarious and he gave me a great solution for my problem. Thanks for the help and the laugh.
Love this. I'm hoping the guy can rig mine like that today when he comes to look at it. I like the ten bucks part
Yes, fun video!
Dude, you are one funny SOB. And my kind of repairman. Thanks.
You are a real thing.. people like you make build new ideas that save world
I appreciate that but it's just an air-conditioner ^_-
This video is the most relatable DIY video ever with all the silly little things that went wrong.
Literally laughed uncontrollably at the silicone part where you started dispensing it from the bottom. Absolute gold
Hehe...Thanks mate.
A unique way of getting the job done! I commend you on your effort, hey it worked!
The best video I watched on TH-cam post Corona. Thank you for the laughs.
That was clever! Good video and fun too!! I like your ingenuity and can-do spirit! Excellent!!!
Love it when the Silicone comes out anywhere but the hole it was designed for .
OMG, i could watch this over and over. Can i rent you? I have no clue what im doing.
Nice ingenuity! Have this same issue with my unit but it sits about 2 inches above the ground in my crawlspace. Rusted slap out. Gonna suck to fix.
That's rough. Might be doable. You only need 1/8" of slope per foot. Shitty place to work though. Good luck.
I really like your video because its like real life stuff and it's funny as hell

There's no fun in that ;)
Yes entertaining....26yrs in the trade here and I puked in my mouth ...change entire pan for CAULK SAKES
evaporator: inside
condenser: outside
Never saw anyone use a wood bit on metal. Surprised you survived it that well.
Yup. That was a pretty dumbass move on my part. I have a proper bit for that task now but hey, you've gotta work with what you've got eh.
@@dork3nergy yup I do that too. One of my early videos I cut a neodymium magnet with a dremel. Not exactly the smartest thing.
awesome fix gave me something to look at doing myself thanks.
You sir, have a fan in me!
My favorite video my guy 😂😂😂

Good job. First time to see solving try hole. I had it few years a go and guy said we have to change the whol yhing
Thing. He did it it was expensive. I do not know what you for income but this is a good one lots of people need that Ext era try you build
Thank you
Thanks @farah. I'm a cheap bastard so these kind of fixes are my first line of defense. The fix is still working fine too!
😂🤣 love the content! The reference killed me!! Thank you for your video very well executed.
Dude, thank you, straight up, I like, you help a lot.
Very nice hack job. Most of us hack but don't bother posting. well done!
I think there's a chance we may be related. hahaha! Enjoyed the video. Thank you for sharing.
This was great for comic relief, very entertaining.
I love you 🤣🤣🤣 You're my favorite!

Water is pretty sneaky stuff.
I like this guy..I enjoyed your video
Thanks Harish. ^_^
What kind of solder did you use to solder metal sheet together to make a new pan, thanks
Oh man. That was a long time ago. I don't think it was anything special. Just the stuff you might use to solder wire together I think.
You are funny to listen to. very entertaining.
I'm having the same issue but I can't find the holes my unit is super cramped what are you guys think about flex seal???? Need help ASAP
I wouldn't be afraid of flexseal but you might need to find where the holes are before you can seal it up.
using a wood drill bit on sheet metal. you ROCK ! lol
"....Effin flux!" I relate here so much! Lol
If you aren’t cussing a storm when working on this stuff are you even human 😂🎉
This guy is hysterical minus the skin a cat comment. My pan is leaking out of bottom. i see no cracks or holes. Unfortunately, i don’t have the tools he has to fix it.
Sweet.. I love this dued...its not fucking boring, and so I fuck up too...nice...your fucking cool..

Good point. I'll check for that. This is season number two for this fix and so far no issues.
This video helped, I'll do something similar.
I think you should rename your channel to Chaos In Process
He has a little bit of that Ricky vibe. Maybe their cousins.
Tina Belcher!
Unnnnnnnnnnnn
$10 dollars beats $15,000 i got quoted for. DYI here I come!!!! lol
Funny. Very practical, though.
Not the condenser 😀

Flex Seal is you friend...
Sadly, flex seal is my only friend :o
Lmfao. Awesome video
wood spade bit on metal lol
Totally stupid I know hehehe. Ya use what you've got.
And for his next trick he is going to redesign a new an improved condom. Ps the next baby boom
Flex tape that shit lol
Fuk yea 👍
helpful and funny!!!
Glad you enjoyed it. It's been 2 years now and still no problems with this sketchy fix.
Would have been just as nice without the language. Nice video.
LMAO Gave me some ideas though
Lol
Lose the F and S words, thanks.
Why?
You can. Thats where it ends.
I luv how you are real, WTF?!? SHIT?!? Damn-it! Not flucking worth a shit!!
