  • In this week's video we're discussing the cost of living on the island of Naxos, Greece. We've spent the past month or so in Naxos and longer than that in Greece and we're discussing all the costs associated with living on a Greek Island in the Cyclades during the shoulder season (we're in Naxos in October).
We go through all the costs we could think of including:
Housing - cost to rent an apartment
Utilities associated with the rental Including:
    Cable/Internet
    Water
    Electricity
    Restaurants/Eating out
    Groceries
Travel Insurance ( We use SafetyWing: safetywing.com/?referenceID=2...)
Phone Plans - We've been using the App Airalo for our eSims. To get $3 off your first purchase use code ANNA2082 or TREVOR1536
Transportation costs (public transportation, car rental)
    Gas
We hope this video helps you figure out the affordability and cost of living here in Greece. If you have any questions, comments or anything additional to add, leave a comment below!

Not at all, I shopped mainly at Sklavenitis, and Lidil Supermarkets, and found the prices to be way lower in most everything than in Florida, where I live. Not only the prices, but these stores were much more modern, impeccably clean, with wider aisles, and products that were packaged and displayed more attractively.
As far as renting is concerned, that too is a lot lower, you'll find, if you shop around. I know because some friends were able to get a very nice 2 BR apt for 275 euros in a very nice area. Their previous 2BR, slightly smaller, apt was 250.
I wanted to stay here for good, but my circumstances don't allow to.

From a Greek, 1500 is REALLY high, you can rent a good apartment for 400 euros, total bills and rent would be like 550 euros. Another 300 euros for groceries if you cook at home and thats all. At most 900 euros combined, so 450 to each one of you. Everything else would be just fun.
2024 update...rents are much higher nowdays.

Everything you get in Greece is kilos. Fruits, vegetables, meat, fish etc. Three major telecommunications services in Greece are Cosmote, Vodafone and Wind. Cosmote seems to be the most expensive but has the best coverage. Vodafone has some pretty good deals but you can't catch solid signal everywhere and Wind is cheaper but the least good. Of course all of them are trash compared to the ones in abroad. Yeah gas has skyrocketed. From 1.6-1.7 € per liter now over 2€. Groceries are kinda expensive if you consider that most Greeks earn like 900-1000€ on average per month. In General life has become more expensive, wages staying at the same level and unemployment is still a big problem.

You forgot to say that the everywhere in Greece you have telecommunications coverage even in mountains. I am living in Germany and the coverage is awful, also the signal isn’t much strong enough, not to mention if you travel on the so called autobahn or by train you don’t have even no signal.

9:00 Any price for meat you see, will refer to kilograms.
    Chicken ~4e,
    Pork ~ 4-7e
Lamb and veal ~ 9-15e depending on cuts.
These are median prices, and not for prepped meat. eg chicken breasts usually go for 10e/kg but you can get the whole chicken for 4e/kg.
edit: Also for the love of Dionysus don't buy box wine!! There are several decent local wines for 5-8e/bottle. (750ml)

Hey guys, no offense intended, but I wanted to mention that your video might not be as helpful to many people since you're not actually living in Greece, despite the title of your video. It seems like you're having an extended stay there. If anyone is genuinely interested in getting an accurate idea of the cost of living in Greece, I would recommend checking out a vlogger called "A Girl and Her Passport." She provides detailed information about the real cost of living in Greece. What you guys are doing is more like an Airbnb during the low season, which may be useful for someone planning a similar extended stay in Greece during that time. However, "living" ( given you used that word ) in Greece on a long-term basis is a whole different experience.

generally the prices on the islands tend to be more expensive compared to the prices you get in the mainland ..i think it’s bc of the delivery since the goods need to be delivered by ships or cables as for electricity but some islands have their own factories that produce energy or renewable sources 😊 mostly sun/ wind. I know that bc i used to live in mainland Greece and the prices were lower there but now i am on an island for studies for like 3 years now so i have noticed that^^ anyways i hope you are enjoying your stay here !! 🏝️🇬🇷💗

For everyone saying its expensive, many areas; of Greece only have work 5 to 6 months of the year and if its on an island then there's additional transport costs too which obviously hike the prices up. People want guaranteed sunshine now so thw tourist season is shorter than it once was so if people want to eat souvlaki on the beach in August you will have to pay a little more to cover the the income of people who wont have a job when there are no visitors.

We’d love to know where? Feel free to send us examples. This place had a pool, kitchen, separate bedroom, was in town and 5 minute walk to the beach. And we only rented it for a month (not a long term lease)..
