  • People come in all shapes and sizes; they have many different ideas; one thing they all share in common is they are part of a larger population. Those populations and groups often compete against one another. There are offenses against the peace in and across national borders. There is a system for dispute resolution, but it requires voluntary submission, which is unlikely if a country or people seek to violate rules. However, rules are not a bad thing. Whether individually or collectively, the civility and peace of a territory or its people requires participation by the members of that group. Whether domestically or internationally, there are no means to control each individual. As groups emerge from individuals joining together, there is increased power but the actions of the groups are still founded upon actions and ideas of individuals. While it may be unlikely that people will learn to play nice, that does not mean it’s impossible. As time goes on, their willingness to submit to a higher authority or their own moral conscience is revealed in their actions and stated beliefs, which can change but only with effort.
