    I agree that a big problem in the church is that people listen to Come Follow Me podcasts instead of studying the scripture block assigned for the week. Or they rely on the school to educate their children, the Primary to teach the Gospel to their children, or the MTC to develop their kids' testimony of the BoM/1st Vision. Seeing people cherry-picking scripture to make a point annoys me. I'm not a scholar, but I love studying the scripture. I have learned a lot from other people's experiences and knowledge, and I always seek the Lord because I believe that truth comes from God. I appreciate what I have learned from you, but would you say that you are always accurate in what you share and people don't need to seek the Lord?

    • @bruce_porter
      @bruce_porter  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lapiccolanonnina9801 the quality of scholarship depends on the sources and the quality of the student depends on who they choose to believe. I don’t know everything and there is no ‘law against a person’s beliefs’. The great thing about a ‘lay ministry’ is every becomes an expert on their religion no matter how active they are in the church or what they know or don’t know. Tradition, opinion, interpretation, is always stranger than truths taught in scripture. No one should believe anything I say, the scriptures are the standard not me. Everyone should be coming unto Christ all the time and there is nothing more important than that in the Book of Mormon.

    Prophet's and Apostles jave counciled us to prepare for the second coming by having a year supply of food, and being debt free. By only spiritually preparing you are setting yourself up to be one of the five foolish virgins. You have to do both.

    There have been many that have not died. Enoch and those taken up with him, Moses, Elijah, Elias, John, 3 Nephites, Alma and there will be many who will be. We need to be careful of the seeds we sow.

      John and the Three Nephites only wanted to remain alive until Christ comes. It never states that would would not ever die. Moses and Elijah like the John and the Three Nephites were translated which doesn't mean they will never die. It is not known 'for sure' that Alma was translated even though implied. The New Testament states that it is 'appointed to men once to die' (Heb. 9;27; Alma 12:27). Joseph Smith said "Now this Enoch God reserved unto Himself, that he should not die at that time, " TPJS 169. Joseph Smith continued, "Translated bodies cannot enter into rest until they have undergone a change equivalent to death. Translated bodies are designed for future missions." TPJS p.190.

    Great conversation, but what I think is missing from this conversation is the importance of listening to our current prophet. What is he saying? He is saying that "time is running out". He is saying that "Make no mistake about it. We are living in the latter part of the latter days", and "in the last half of the 9th inning." He is the one calling upon us to be the people who are "able, ready, and worthy to receive the Lord when He comes again". He has charged us to be the people who prepare the world for the second coming. Sister Nelson has reminded us that President Nelson does not speak in hyperbole, and that we need to start putting exclamation points after everything he says.
    Elder McConkie has said that "it is our privilege and duty to learn the signs of his coming." He has also said that we may not know the day or hour, but we can know the generation, and the season. "Just as a woman in travail foreknows the approximate time of her child's birth."
    I think the prophet knows something. We need to have eyes to see and ears to hear, and prepare ourselves spiritually and temporally for His return. As the CFM in the final lesson says, "And it IS coming soon. HE is coming."
    Whether we are here for it or not, let us look for the signs prepare ourselves to see His face.

    People are mixing traditions, and even sports into church meetings now instead of using the scriptures. This is doing a lot of harm. One of the downsides of the current meeting structure is that with 'discussions' people will discuss the philosophy of man instead of using the words of the scriptures. If garbage goes in, garbage will come out of it. It depends on opening up the books.
    ///
    And at some point people in the church need to face the idea head on that they need to get rid of social rankings, social class, class systems. As its doing a lot of damage, and has done damage before. (4th Nephi 1; Helaman 6; 3rd Nephi 6).

    I think that some earnestly seeking to understand apocalyptic scripture better will interpret this as counsel to cease any attempt to interpret those scriptures. You mention this at the beginning that such counsel may disappoint some and I agree it will. We can beware those that seek to lead astray using fear or for gain or glory, without ceasing to study, weigh, and opine/theorize on apocalyptic scripture. I think more discussion on how to strike this balance would alleviate peoples concerns, as the discussion would be less black/white - I’m right and you’re wrong.

    The only thing I will disagree with is : we learn from the spirit. The scriptures teach us to a certain point and they connect us to the spirit. You have to except that the Spirit teaches you beyond the scriptures. You don't address that.

      @@bruce_porter ,....You should be thanking me for providing you with actual Biblical truth. Joseph smith was a con artist and a fraud. Only when you understand that fact, will you have a chance at actually understanding what the truth actually is.
      What is so sad is, almost no one snared into the cult of mormonism will ever try to understand what Biblical truth actually is. They are all so completely hypnotized and indoctrinated into this false manmade ungodly disaster that it is almost impossible to break free from it. But many have, and I suggest you read some of the comments of the many who have come to understand what an absolute fake deception moronism is.

    • @awatchman-um7vy

      @@bruce_porter ,...Also, since I understand how difficult it is to break free from the deception of mormonism by using the Bible as all mormons are completely Biblically illiterate, I try to point to a much simpler way to see how fake mormonism is.
      So, there are two cosmologies of the world that exist. One real, and one fake, one of God and the Bible, and one of the Godless world and all its fake religions. One, the Bible, tells us that the earth God created is a flat stationary plane, and the other, the Godless world, tells us the earth is a spinning ball/planet/globe flying through space. One is real, and the other a manmade fraud.
      If the earth is in fact the flat stationary plane the Bible says it is, we can and have to agree that joseph was a 100% fraud, as he said and 100% believed that the earth was the Godless worlds 100% fake spinning planet. Aside from there being absolute zero proof of the earth being anything but the flat stationary plane the Bible says it is, please watch this video from a Christian church that does a good job of explaining what the Bible says the earth really is,.....
