I've almost finished my BSc in IT Cyber Security however at the age of 25 I finally found something I have ambition and passion for and that's thanks to you. You are a prime example of what a pilot should be. Thank you so much for these videos, they are a delight to watch. Safe travels Captain!
Love how you keep passengers informed. Not all airlines do this. I really get annoyed when there are delays and no reason is given. If I know I am much happier.
Thanks for sharing your helpful feedback! If I fly as a passenger I also would like to be informed about what is going on and why is the plane departing late ..... So as a pilot I always ask myself: "What would I like to know if I would be a passenger on this flight?" After answering this question to myself, I do the detailed PA announcement about the current situation.
I agree, it's important to keep passengers informed, as long as it's a meaningful update. We flew home last week AKL-DOH-EDI, we sat on the apron at Auckland for nearly two hours because of "paperwork problems". There were twelve technicians on the apron around engine #2 for most of that time. It looked much more than "paperwork"!
Dear Stefan, I wanted to say big thanks to you, for all your videos. Next week I am starting my type rating, and your videos helped me keep my knowledge fresh and motivation high in the waiting period.
It's great to hear that my videos help you during your pilot training! I wish you all the best for your type rating! Thanks a lot for supporting the channel as a member!
Superb, loved hearing your conversations with the Ground Handler! Must be a very unique relationship, friendly conversations with someone you’ve only seen through the cockpit window. One of many things to love about your content, it’s always something different. Even when it’s the same airport, there will be different conditions etc.
Another outstanding video Captain Stefan. Thanks so much for allowing us all into your office. Great to hear all the interaction with your FO and ground crew during the wait for your takeoff slot. Very interesting and most editors would have cut this out and deprived us of these interactions.
Outstanding! Thank you so much for resisting the temptation to cut or fast forward even if sitting waiting for the slot seems a little bit boring. Next time you go to Madeira, you must get a photo of the nice ground lady!
There are daily live streams from Madeira Airport, sometimes with quite spectacular landings. It was very interesting to see (luckily quite unspectacular) approach and departure videos from the cockpit view. Many thanks for this!
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! I have seen those livestreams before and even looked up one of my landings a while ago. You are right, this was a very unspectacular approach. I prefer approaches like this one.
What a great video, it was very interesting to hear your conversations with the ground crew about who also flies into the airport and from where. Thank you for leaving that in :)
Thanks a lot for watching and for your good and very personal feedback! I love to hear that my videos helped to reduce your flying anxiety. I wish you lots of nice and relaxing flights!
This is beautifull airport, I landing in funchal in last week in Microsoft flight Simulator, it is very nice approach on runway 05, greetings from Poland 😊
We have 2 transponders and when the First Officer is pilot flying, transponder 2 is used and when the Captain is flying, transponder 1 is used. This is because the transponder transmits the associated altitude to ATC.
The performance program gave us a V1 range as a result for the takeoff performance calculation. We took the low V1 value to increase our margin for a possible takeoff abort.
Greetings from Brazil. Please make the videos of full flight, evolving pushing back, taxing, taking off, cruising altitude; and then, descending, approaching procedure, landing and taxing to the gate. I Love watching the whole process. Nice videos.

Lg
Thanks for your good feedback! Most of the takeoffs are done with Flex thrust setting. TOGA is used if we expect windshears or so, on contaminated runways or if the performance of the airplane does not allow us to takeoff with Flex thrust setting. This may be the case if the aircraft is heavy on short runways or with tailwind ...
It's so nice video. Been a crazy flight simmer I got a lot of knowledge out of your videos. Would you consider please to add ED (more important) and/or SD screens? You could shrink a bit pilots view and put ED/SD in the middle. Thanks a lot! Waiting for new videos!
Thanks for your feedback! I would like to add those screens, especially during the engine start ..... But it is way more difficult done than said. Reason are the very limited camera locations and reflections on the cockpit screens.
Thanks you very much for watching, for your support of the channel as a member and for your question! The predictive windshear system takes data from the weather radar. It analyses the signal reflections and if it looks like possible windshear ahead, we get a warning during the approach "Go around, Windshear ahead!" or on the ground during or before the takeoff roll "Windshear ahead". We switch the PWS system to off after landing.
Thanks for your question. As stated by others, I do not public release the exact date and time of a flight. This is due to privacy concerns. I ask for your understanding. But, I may contact you in the future if I produce the next Madeira video. Maybe we can set something up to combine views from the ground with views from the cockpit.
Thanks for watching and your feedback! We both wear the full seatbelts, including the shoulder harnesses, during the takeoff. See here: 31:12 After the takeoff, the First Officer opened the shoulder harness at 32:04 but kept the lap belt on. We keep the lap belts on during the full flight. We also strongly recommend that all passengers keep the lap belts on when seated. For takeoffs and landings, we use the shoulder harnesses in addition. Some pilots release the shoulder harness earlier and some later.
captain, can I ask your opinion on pilot-less planes in the future? I know airbus is pushing toward that goal, but as a future student pilot ( I still need to begin my atpl) this job threat scares me a lot
Thanks for watching and your question! We know that it is in general possible to produce airplanes that are flying by themselves. The emergency mode of several modern small business airplanes is able to navigate and land on the next suitable runway if the pilot is incapacitated. Also, it is possible to fly planes via remote control. We know this from military drones. My personal opinion is that we will see 2 pilots in large passenger airplanes for the next few years and if a good bullet proof emergency technology is available and it is accepted by the passengers, only one pilot may be flying the plane with an automatic backup system and possible remote control. Maybe the passengers will not accept to be flown by just one pilot and they will fly with the "two pilot" airline.
Thanks for your insight. One pilot in the cockpit would slice in half the job places around the world...that s a lot to ponder before investing 80k in a licence

They have to be used for takeoffs and landings. The lap belts are used during the whole flight. Every pilot is a little different. Some use the shoulder belts longer and others shorter.
Are they on ground frequency when they talk to the woman about the plane going from JFK to Madeira? I notice they dont touch anything whilst talking to her, so does that mean ground is always listening to what is said in the cockpit as long as they are on ground frequency?
The woman is connected directly to the aircraft so they are not talking on a public frequency. I think you need to have the Radio panel set to INT, so that all communication is shared with anyone connected to the aircraft without having to use push to talk. But I am not sure, as I also want to know that :D
She is connected with her headset to the cockpit interphone. When we switch the interphone to INT, the interphone system is permanently on. Everybody can talk and also everybody can hear what the others are saying. If we do not want the ground crew to hear our conversation, we can keep the interphone off and use the push to talk button to transmit dedicated messages to the ground crew. After the pushback is finished we would then switch the interphone on.

Awesome video, thanks for that! May I kindly ask why you are flying at an even FL? Isn't the plane flying east bound? Thanks!
In general, you are right. But some airways and routings allow a different setup. After a while, we had to continue on an odd FL.
Excellent video, as always. Q - how does Predictive Wind Shear (PWS) work? And, it is always turned off after landing?

We switch the PWS system to off after landing.
