Herr Kapitan- you have truly elevated the craft of cockpit videos. Instead of useless fill and scenic videography, you give us WHAT WE TUNE IN FOR! Your concentration on flight path, energy management and handling procedures are an artform. You have figured out how to deliver substantive content for the Airbus enthusiast and I for one remain obliged. Please keep on keeping on, with your particular blend of camera work and attention to detail. Your discussions of flight management and MCDU manipulations are particularly salient, and appreciated. There is plenty of rubbish on YT.... your content soars far above. Gross Danke!
Thank you so much for your kind words and the very detailed feedback about the channel! It is great to hear that you like the details of the videos! I try to put all available information in the videos. Sometimes, I have MCDU recordings, sometimes not. I still try to find a good camera location to record the MCDU during the flight. But due to the limited options in the cockpit, I did not find a good solution until now. Please tell everybody about the channel! Thanks in advance for your help!

Another great full flight video. It was amazing to see that the thinner air at a higher level along with a stronger head wind still resulted in about 15 to 20 knots extra groundspeed.
So cool you're including more and more of the other vital staff that make all this work as well as it does. First the cabin crew, now ground crew get a cameo!

Fantastic video. I love it when you finally come out of the soup on approach and it was a great landing. Also a nice bonus to see the BA departure as you were taxiing in.
Hello Captain good to see you. Its been an Approach and Departure Saturday morning as I was away last week so catching up. It was very nice to show the Pusher (I'm not sure of their correct title) they play a very essential part of the takeoff process and deserve some recognition he certainly looked very happy didn't he? All the best and see you again next week.
Thanks for supporting the channel as a member and your good feedback! I also do not know the correct title of the pushback person. Sometimes it is the handling agent. Sometimes it is a mechanical engineer or a ramp handler or loader or a pushback truck operator.... I agree, he - for sure - was a very happy person. Have a nice day!
Exceptional video. Great to see the whole flight including personal chats when in cruise. What was that showing on TCAS near the opposite end of the runway as you were coming into land? It appears to be below ground level and flitting around at quite some speed.
Thank you so much for watching and your great feedback! Interesting to see the TCAS altitude showing something below the ground. Maybe that there was an equipment test of another airplane going on or so in one at one of the Dusseldorf maintenance facilities.
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! These are ABEAM waypoints. If we enter DIRET TO WITH ABEAM than the old waypoints will be transferred as abeam points into the direct to routing. We use the abeam waypoints for fuel and time checks. The name of the abeam waypoints consists of an AB and then the name of the original waypoint.
Great as always! One question: 3:32 How does the "ground-cockpit" call work? All the time I saw, that you are doing this call with your hands folded / not pressing a button.
Thanks for watching and for your support of the channel as a member! In general, sometimes audio may be missing in the videos. Most of the time it is due to technical reasons or for privacy protection. This video is a "real realtime" video. The video is 100 % complete from the briefing in LYS to on block in DUS. From the almost 1 hour 30 minutes of audio only about 35 seconds are missing.
Excellent video, thank you again! One question always boggles me when I see the rudder check: Why does the FO announce the rudder position when the Captain is checking his controls, but not there is no crosscheck by the Captain when the FO is checking his controls? It would seem logical to me to do an aural crosscheck by announcing what you see on the PFD for both.
I would hazard a guess that it’s because on the ground the F.O is pilot monitoring so he does the call outs and the Captain should be focusing on taxiing . I’m sure the Airbus system self diagnostics which I believe takes 2.8 seconds . Some airlines for the checks in random orders and some do it in the order that is recommended and some airlines do it silently. (I’m not a pilot and this is just a guess )
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! The flight control check is done in accordance to the Airbus procedures. The pilot flying moves the controls and the pilot monitoring is telling what happens with the controls. Reason for this is that Airbus also allows to do the check during taxi. And when taxiing, the pilot flying shall watch outside and not on the flight control system page to see the movement of the controls displayed. As the pilot monitoring is not taxiing the airplane, he or she can do the check by him or herself looking at the flight control page. We use the Airbus procedure for the check, but usually do not do the check during taxiing. Also, on the ground, the Captain is always considered pilot flying because he or she is always taxiing the airplane.
Very great Video. Today I flew in MSFS 2020 from EDDL to EDDH with Eurowings (D-AENA) as a Flight Captain. Very great. The weather in MSFS 2020 was great too. I hope, you'll never end your great videos.
In Final beginning at around 1:18:30 there are a few planes showing behind the airport on the navigation display "wandering" fast around, why is that? One even showing -3100 Foot at 2300 Foot altitude.
Thanks for the feedback! I do not know. I just assume that these are returns from airplane ground tests which are done by one of the maintenance facilities at Dusseldorf airport.
Also Airbus A319, A320 und A321.
Wonderfull video as always thank you very much! I wonder that did you in your career encountered any failures or rto situation? I hope that never happens but your awareness with F/O to any situation is very good.
Thanks for watching, your good feedback and your question! Thankfully, the airlines which I worked for and which I work for now invested a good amount of money into the maintenance. So failures are very rare. Small things break once in a while, but usually nothing important. And: All important systems are installed with one or even two backup systems. Even if we usually do not see failures in the airplane, we train them in the simulator on a regular basis. Rejected takeoffs are also very rare. I never had to do one in real life. Only in the simulator.
Would it be possible to reduce or cancel the sound between other aircraft and ATC control to prevent your own conversations from being interrupted, lost or overlapped? Sometimes it is uncomfortable because it is not clear which conversations are between you (pilot and co-pilot) and what is coming from other planes. The volume is the same on both and there is too much overlapping noise. Thank in advance. Best regards.
Thanks for sharing your feedback and for your request! The videos contain the original audio from the cockpit. The audio you hear is exactly the same what we hear in our headsets or in the cockpit loudspeakers. For us it is also sometimes difficult to find the right balance between the ATC audio volume and the volume of the interphone. Right now, I am unable to change this in postproduction. I can only increase or decrease the complete audio level. Maybe there is a future solution for this available. I am sorry that I cannot give you a better answer.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Please don't listen to him! keep everything the same way, your video's quality is excellent and got everything we need, please don't change it would alter the quality of you videos!!
I’m a ground handler in Lyon, i dont know if you’ve been there again since video but if you did i probably pushed your plane or talked to you with the headset, nice video
Amazing video as always! Another question, for takeoff when do you use ENG select mode IGN instead of NORM? Or is it always NORM for takeoff? Thanks, and I look forward to the next one.
There are some prerequisites that may require IGN. Heavy rain is one example. Depending on the airplane, the IGN may be on automatically with engine anti ice on or so. Even with the switch in NORM. Right now, we do not call out the selector position. We call whatever the ECAM screen says. In the future this will change. Then we will call the selector position.
I managed to watch the full 1hr27minutes and I thought it was a fantastic watch! At FL300, did you keep the seatbelt signs on? I didn’t notice that because I thought you had it off. Was there severe weather ahead of you? Do correct me if I’m wrong.
We usually switch the fasten seatbelt signs to off when passing FL100. But here we had a forecast of turbulence in the weather chart. So we kept the seatbelt signs on during the climb.
Does company policy not allow you to film the FMS? would love to see some of what you do on there. Great videos as always, my go to channel every Saturday.
Thanks for watching and your question! There are lots of videos on my channel which show the MCDU pages setup for the approach and takeoff. Also, there is one video with a very detailed setup description available. th-cam.com/video/9ivPYuAgsmA/w-d-xo.html Until now, I did not find a good camera location to record the MCDU during the whole flight. Possible cockpit camera locations which do not interfere with flight operations are very limited.
I see that the CPDLC system was activated, but was there any message that was transmitted over it? As far as I can tell all the instructions from ATC were by voice on VHF
Thanks for your feedback! Usually we log into the CPDLC system. Sometimes the ATC messages show up on CPDLC, sometimes they transmit everything via voice. It is both possible.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Thanks for your reply. I always thought that controllers would use CPDLC if it is available because it means the frequency is less clogged up for those who aren’t logged into CPDLC but it seems I’m mistaken. Perhaps when the frequency isn’t so busy giving instructions on voice is just easier on them?
Good question! I do not think so. My personal impression is that it lands very similar to the Airbus A321 CEO. Here you can see my first A321 NEO landing: th-cam.com/video/tH8SiamPA7E/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for your helpful feedback! Right now, I only have one good cockpit audio track with the original cockpit audio. It represents the audio volume settings I do for the left side cockpit loudspeaker and the headset. Sometimes it is not well balanced. Presently, I work on equipment and setup updates to enhance the audio. It may take a few weeks until it is fully implemented. Please stay tuned!
Incredible, thank you for sharing. Isn't it against all international rules that French ATC is using French with local pilots in terms of situational awareness for everybody?
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! My understanding is that French is an ICAO language. So it is allowed to be used for radio communication. But it does not increase the situational awareness for everybody because other pilots on the frequency may not understand the French language.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Thank you! I didn't know that it could be different. So they use different source to calculate VLS? I mean VLS on PFD and VLS in MCDU? Does it have something to do with ground speed mini function?
It depends on the software and hardware status of the airplane. Some have a different source. The PFD VLS comes from the FAC, based on aerodynamic data and the MCDU VLS from the flight management computer, based on the entered weight and the remaining fuel. This has nothing to do with groundspeed mini.
Always liked your videos but these full flights are next level fantastic 👍 Random question. When you leave seatbelt sign on the entire flight like this what are the rules in Europe if someone has a bathroom emergency and has to go. Will they be punished if they get out of their seat?
Thanks for watching and your good and helpful feedback! Sometimes we keep the seatbelt signs on because we expect turbulence which is shown on our forecast charts. This information is known by the cabin crew. We do not punish somebody who needs to use the restroom. But we tell the passengers who want to use the restroom during turbulence that they should not do it and better wait until it is smooth again. We also tell them that a use of the restroom will be on their own risk. If they use the restroom and something happens on the way it will be their own responsibility. Usually we have no problems with this. Our passengers are very friendly and understand all this and remain seated with their seatbelts on.
Gute Frage!
It depends on lots of conditions and there is no fixed pitch value. The goal is that the descent rate is reduced during the flare in a way that the rate is very close to zero when reaching the runway surface. Maximum pitch during the flare is 7.5 degrees for the A321 and 10 degrees for the A319 and A320.
Good question! Usually, we would like to do a 3 degree descent with idle power from the cruise altitude to about 1000 feet above the runway elevation. This is a very efficient way to fly the plane. To accommodate this, we have to calculate a descent point. We can do this in our brain or / and get help from the flight management system. The flight management system takes the descent wind into account and shows us at which point it recommends to start the descent. It only works well if we have entered the real arrival routing and approach. If the entered routing is longer or shorter than the routing which we will later get, the calculation will be wrong. If we fly to non-busy airports, we usually have to ask for descent clearance and can fly along our precalculated idle descent path. If we fly to busy airports, like London or Dusseldorf, ATC usually tells us to descent early due to other traffic in the vicinity or due to the structure of the airspace.
Try to be relaxed and get at any time all possible available information. Make sure that you always monitor the flight progress and the airplane status. Listen to ATC communication with other airplanes. Especially during departure and approach this helps to get a good picture of the traffic and the general situation ahead and behind the airplane. ........
The pilot flying has the had at the stick because he is flying the airplane. The pilot monitoring has his hand at or near the stick because the push to talk button for the radio is located at the sidestick. Also, the pilot monitoring must be able to takeover any time, especially if the pilot flying is flying manually.
Marcus, thanks a lot for watching and for your good feedback! I would love to fly you to ARN, but on Tuesday is my "Sunday". I am OFF on Tuesday. I wish you a great trip to ARN and hope to see you soon again!
We know from our charts in which airspace we are flying. The charts show the ATC radio frequencies and also the the login data for the appropriate ATC control sector.

Love your videos Sir, keep up with them!
While flying inbound GIVOR at 27:30, what are those points on the ND with those long names?
Thank you!
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos oh that's a very smart and very interesting feature! Thank you for your quick answer!
Amazing as usual. Thank you for sharing. Why wasn't runway guidance available/used/displayed in the FMA during takeoff?
Thanks for the good feedback! Runway guidance is only available if the runway is equipped with a localizer. And the localizer has to be transmitting.
Amazing video as always, captain! I really hope that you will be able to record a video if you fly to my hometown of Sofia, Bulgaria.
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! Sure, when I am scheduled to Sofia, I will try to record and to publish a video. Greetings to Sofia!
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Danke schön!
Great as always! One question: 3:32 How does the "ground-cockpit" call work? All the time I saw, that you are doing this call with your hands folded / not pressing a button.
We can use the push to talk button or set it as a "hot" mike. Here the interphone was on and no push to talk button needed.
Fantastic as always, captain. Thx a lot...
Maybe it has been explained in the videos before but: What is the reason that some sequences are muted?
Thank you very much for your great feedback! I wish you lots of nice flights!

Always enjoy you're videos
I appreciate that!
Love the full flight videos. Great upload 👌
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! Have a nice day!
Omg juste thank you for FULL flight 😊😊😊👍👍👍
Thanks for watching and your good feedback!

Viele besser - danke für die tolle video ;)

does eurowings use the old checklist for the a319/a320? because I have observed that you use the after takeoff checklist, like" below the line"...
We use the new checklists. You can see this in my newest videos.
„smart“iboy.

Is it true that the A321neo is especially difficult to land compared to the previous version? Something to do with a unique law during flare?
Good question! I do not think so. My personal impression is that it lands very similar to the Airbus A321 CEO. Here you can see my first A321 NEO landing: th-cam.com/video/tH8SiamPA7E/w-d-xo.html
Love your videos! For me the ATC is a bit too loud in regards to the cockpit voices. Just something to think about.
Looking foreward to that 🎉
Incredible, thank you for sharing. Isn't it against all international rules that French ATC is using French with local pilots in terms of situational awareness for everybody?
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! My understanding is that French is an ICAO language. So it is allowed to be used for radio communication. But it does not increase the situational awareness for everybody because other pilots on the frequency may not understand the French language.
i love the full version more please paul

Do you hear the ATC as we hear it ? Sometimes I can’t understand what they are saying
We hear the same. This is the original audio from the cockpit.
When doing single engine taxi, what's the maximum N1% you are permitted to use?
(without sending ground vehicles flying all over the apron 😅)
Hello Captain! Can you please explain how do you check and calculate how much to add to VLS on final? Thank you!
We compare the VLS on the PFD with the VLS on the MCDU. If the VLS on the PFD is higher, we add the difference to the approach speed on the MCDU.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Thanks a lot for the answer :)
Always liked your videos but these full flights are next level fantastic 👍
Random question.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos I understand, Thanks for the response!
Da gibt es allerdings etwas was mich seit Jahren beschäftigt. Wie wird ein Flugzeug am Boden gelenkt?
Gute Frage!
Is flare always 5 degrees r could it be like 7?
It depends on lots of conditions and there is no fixed pitch value. The goal is that the descent rate is reduced during the flare in a way that the rate is very close to zero when reaching the runway surface. Maximum pitch during the flare is 7.5 degrees for the A321 and 10 degrees for the A319 and A320.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Ok thank you, this will really help out with my flight simning!

Plane flying under you at 53:43 cool 🤓
Thanks for sharing your observation!
You have to know when to begin the descent ? Does the ATC know that youvare going to descend at some time? Why did they ask you to descend to fl300?
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos thanks a lot. For your great videos and answers. Please more full flight videos :)
How can you improve the situational awareness?
Try to be relaxed and get at any time all possible available information. Make sure that you always monitor the flight progress and the airplane status. Listen to ATC communication with other airplanes. Especially during departure and approach this helps to get a good picture of the traffic and the general situation ahead and behind the airplane. ........
can someone explain to me why both pilots keep their hands on the sidesticks at the same time? i dont get it
The pilot flying has the had at the stick because he is flying the airplane. The pilot monitoring has his hand at or near the stick because the push to talk button for the radio is located at the sidestick. Also, the pilot monitoring must be able to takeover any time, especially if the pilot flying is flying manually.
