    I have a few of these trap doors available on my eBay store for those interested
    They are a huge pain to assemble so I'm probably NOT gonna make more.

    I have a 4th gen z28 that I found with 180k miles on it. Most of the car was pretty ratty so I was VERY relieved when I discovered the fuel pump access hole wasn’t hacked into it. This is a super cool option that’s way cleaner than how folks normally do it!

      It's super silly to rag against a clean fuel pump access door. I have welded in Sub frame connectors, cut battery tray for an intercooler pipe, battery relocation with a Moreso Cut off switch in my taillight. This is a Raceway and its done right and professionally (I'm a professional automotive technician)

    The gas tank install was my biggest "re-occurring" problem, not for fitment, pump replacement, fuel lines etc. etc. but because I used a 4th gen plastic tank (works great) except, I struggled with a vent. It wouldn't take fuel well, gas would bubble bsck up and out the fill pipe. Gave large vent now, so it works however, have not found a vent valve / filter that is large enough to place at the end of vent line. Always something, enjoy your vids, Thanks

  • @beerdragon4583
    @beerdragon4583 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Now THATS the correct way to do this. Has GM done originally to these cars there would be no issue like this today. If you do install a trap door to get to your fuel pump, do it exactly like this.

    • @beerdragon4583
      @beerdragon4583 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, afterthought: this is NOT a chop job. A hack job is cutting up your car not know what the F you’re doing. Jobs like this are called design improvements.

  • @Meenz28
    @Meenz28 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Oh no! You did the trap door mod! The F-body gods will smite you! For shame!!! In all seriousness, I'm not sure why some people with sticks up their butts have an issue with this. If it's done cleanly (yours is one of the better examples I've seen) it's hands down an improvement over having to drop the tank. It SHOULD have come this way from the factory. I've done it on every Camaro I've ever owned and will if I ever buy another in the future.

    Greetings from Torrance, CA! A few years ago I had to replace my fuel pump on my 89 IROC. I saw a lot of videos on how to cut a trap door and all of them seemed like hack jobs. I couldn't bring myself to do it, so I dropped the tank and did it the right way. But, the way you did it was very professional! You might now have a bump in the carpet( there are ways to hide that too) but the job was very clean. You got me hooked(even though I wouldn't do a trap door) and I subscribed. Going to check out your other videos! Thanks!

    Unless its a trick of the camera or a mirror image it looks like your rotors are on backwards. The slot should draw brake gasses and dust outwards,yours looks to be oriented directing them inwards.

    • @3rdGenGuy
      @3rdGenGuy  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      different rotor brands have different orientations.
      in the BAER case, it's a curved vein rotor and the slots face the front of the car.
      Some other's are the opposite.
      in Hellcats for example, they don't have a rotor direction since it's a straight vein rotor.

    Wait... didn't you tell people in your fuel pump video that if you cut the hole "I will find you!"? 🤣🤣🤣 At least this video is well done. Glad you finally saw the light. I like how you at least lowerd the tank so you won't have risk of hitting the tank. That's what I did. You did waste a lot of time cutting smaller and then bigger. There are a lot of threads on forums showing where you should cut. Also, the Allstar 14" x 10" fits very well. Unless you have a bone stock restored TTA, Firehawk or another rare 3rdgen, just chop ot up and make it better.

    A fuel pump access door would be a nice feature, but is useless without quick disconnect fittings to the fuel pump, which I noticed you had in the video. I have seen access holes cut with an exaggerated L shape to remove the factory hard lines or the hard lines were spliced backed together with rubber hoses and worm clamps.

    Got some questions: I just picked up a 1991 Firebird 305 TBI. I don't have a key for it. The car was sitting for 12 years and is in very rough shape. The engine was locked up. I got it unstuck by soaking the cylinders with PB blaster and ATF. I attached a remote quick start switch directly to the starter. The engine turns over just fine but isnt starting with starter fluid.
    Should it fire up temporarily with starter fluid? Or do I need a key? Or is there a spark issue?

    • @3rdGenGuy
      @3rdGenGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      a 1991 is gonna have a VATS key, so you'll have to bypass it.
      I have a video on it.
      since you don't have a key, you'd have to test all 10 resistors and see what works.
      not hard really.
      there are also VATS bypass boxes for like $40 that have all the 10 resistors built in

    So the problem is with this mod is its a safety hazard. If the car ever hits hit in the rear, that is now a major weak spot and if the tank gets ruptured, now it has a way into the cabin. The "trunk" area is designed as a crumple zone. You should have seen the donor Camaro I got parts off of that had been smashed in the back, there was no back seat it was hit so hard.
    This info is from GM engineers that helped design the 3rd gen Fbody.

      Ur logic is flawed there.
