I have to say since Motor Trend On Demand came out it shows what how good car shows can be. But I have been watching these shows since TNN in 94 or 95. Pat and Mike are the best hosts on this block of shows. Stacey David by far belongs in the HoF.
The ls stuff has been done since many times that it's not even cool anymore. Atleast if they hot rodded the small block atleast the car will still be mostly original and will always be cool where the ls will eventually be seen as super outdated and people will want the small block back in it.

The Z/28 had the better handling suspension setup and was more of a performance package then the RS. To be fair. The Z/28s were some of the best handling sport performance cars of the 1980s.
I was excited to see this "Vortec" engine swap (you know, the 350 with Vortec heads?) only to discover this LS engine I already saw on another PN show.
Well, adding all that horse power was all well and good, but where's the suspension upgrades to make it handle the autocross course? It's still going to plow like a bulldozer.
I'm 1 Le Camaro never handled like a bulldozer I don't know what kind of cars the are used to but for the bud they're intended use there are probably 10% of cars that might be able to beat them for twice the price in the handling department

It does not however make up for the parasitic loss of a torque converter, the reduction in engine acceleration and deceleration because of 5 quarts of fluid spinning at 6-8k rpm, the increased overall weight of the transmission, or the higher temperatures associated with prolonged high psi levels on fluid to hold it in gear. There is a reason that every major racing series that doesn’t just go in a straight line uses a manual transmission or a dual clutch transmission because they are better when used in an application that requires constant up and down shifting or when help at high rpm for more than 10 seconds. Automatics work fine on the street, but with the shifting speed and the constant reduction in cost of the dual clutch manual transmission are proving the torque converter automatics are a going to be going the way of the dodo bird. The current surge in manual transmission swaps in the aftermarket shows that more and more people appreciate the art of rowing your own gears to get the most out of a vehicle.
No kidding. I was stoked to see the Vortec 305 or 350 swap, which would have been very cool. I already saw this LS built and dynoed on that other show. The actual Vortec 350 is a killer swap for a 305 car.

I never understood why Chevrolet reused so many of the same rpo codes and initials over and over again.... makes these exact situations confusing. is it an "LS" engine?.... technically no because its iron and came out of a pickup it's a vortec 5300 LM engine...... but is it an engine that's almost identical with the aluminum gen 3-4 LS1/2/3/4/6/7/9??.... yes it shares the same architecture. I guess my point is that I can see why they would call it a vortec swap....... but with the old gen 1 engines being called vortec in the spider injection era, and the car being even older than that, and most people considering the LM7 an "LS engine", yeah this isnt what most people tuned in for

We're not the first guys to put a LS in a Camaro. Yeah the General started it in 98. Those ceramic boot Accel plug wires are life savers. My early production 1 7/8" headers on my Trailblazer SS would burn plug wires even with heat boots on them. They're a little more expensive but so is 2 sets of plug wires in 100 miles.
Good content- i hope they used thread locker on the flex plate bolts, otherwise they will have the experience that LT And Austin had with their C10 at the drag strip

You should’ve left it alone and just concentrated on making it run better that’s all! There’s plenty of other halfway ragged out ITOC-Z Camaros out there y’all could’ve used.
The 700R would have been better to put in there. built properly it would handle 1200 horse without a problem and then you would have a overdrive gear to get better gas mileage
You forgot to show us how far the torque converter comes forward to the flywheel to make sure we have proper engagement in the pump after it moves forward that would have been a good tip
I guess "free tools" were a surprise on 3rd gen Camaros. I had a brand new 1984 Z28 I ordered in September 1983. i drove it around for a while and noticed a strange rattle coming from under the hood. After a close inspection one afternoon I found a 12" long, 3/8' drive extension with, I believe a 9mm socket on it, stuck on top of the passenger side exhaust manifold tucked in behind the A.I.R. tubes near the block.
I in the early 90s I had an blue and gold 85 z with the 700r4 and vicious LG4 5.0! What a slouch. It was loaded and mint I did like it. I inherited my mom's 95 mustang GT convertible that was always stored winters so it's 100% rust free. It's the last of the sbf 5.0! Has the 5 speed. I thought with 215hp it saying H.O. is a laughable but compared to the 3rd gen 305s guess it is in comparison... It would be snappy of it didn't have like 273:1 gears, decent 1st gear the hit 2nd gear n it falls on it's face. Needs a swap! How bout a 3rd gen 5.7 hemi? They are a hot ticket at the moment... how'd that b for a slap in ford fan boys faces! Prob get me lumped up.... I'm broke I only can afford upgrade shifter arm n knob..🥺. I did put a bumping system in it from all the hand me downs from my constantly evolving sound system in my bAsS van.
What they don’t show you here is how brutal it is to get to the engine Mount bolts unless you’ve done it before, and you’re not going to get it on your own

Take out a 4-speed automatic and put it in a 3-speed automatic makes tons of sense just get a rebuilt 700R4 can handle plenty of power and be lighter and fits in the transmission tunnel perfectly
Sounds like you don't know much about autocross. Search "A-mod autocross" - I prefer track work, but go try autocross and get schooled on raw time by some goober in a box stock civic Si with a giant hat.

Anyone else cringe when they drilled out the head for the temp sender? 3 terminal 98 LS1 style ECT usually solves this issue.

you can fit 315s squared on these cars without using flares or anything. slight rolling of the fenders and correct backspacing you can fit them.

They lost me at turbo 400, if your gonna get a trans from gear-star, it might as well be an overdrive. Keep the 3 speeds for the quarter mile.

You went backwards on the transmission. TH400 is a beast but lacks overdrive and the steep first gear of the 700r4.
